Hi everyone,
I was gone for a while (vacation and did a ton of walking while planning and planting some geocaches and planning a Fun Run (which was a bit of a dud ) . I did do my first 5K in almost a year though and did a decent job. It was a hilly golf course route and a small race, but I managed to finish as the 1 st Master's woman. My 8 yro son has been tearing it up though --he finished almost 2 min ahead of me and 11th overall in the race! Back home and trying to get back to my normal routine this week, but feeling behind in my work and my running both.

BTW - This is why I try to run 7 days a week because I KNOW that there will be days I can not. If I only planned to run a few days a week, and life happens so that I miss one or more of those few days, then I get NO runs in that week. By getting up every day and trying t plan a run, I can almost always get at least 3 or 4 runs in a week in. Sometimes I end up on a 7+ day streak, but I can always choose to take a rest day when that happens.
Anyways... that is just how I do it. YMMV and all that. But it is something to consider for those of you like me with many random things drawing your time away from you.
I have a very similar idea of planning my runs. Most days I assume I will be running, unless my schedule is completely packed and I know for sure a run won't happen. So at the beginning of October I ran 8 days in a row, which was needed, because then I had a 5 days non-running streak. I completely understand your frustration when a run does not happen due to some random things.0 -
@mustb60 way to meet your goal already! Great running1

@hjeppley congrats on your 5k! And grats to your boy, wow! That's super impressive!0

@hjeppley NIce work on your 5k. My seven year old wants to train for one but we need to wait until soccer season ends.

Today's notes: Good morning Run friends! Well, my quads don't kill as much today, so that's an improvement. My calves are another story. Very top of my calves, almost to my knee, is very tight/stiff and sore today. That's the nice thing about an ultra, it really tells you where your weak areas are.
Have a Runderful day everyone!

This morning was supposed to be an easy 4.5. Instead it was a 1 that told me the cramp in my calf after the 7 on Saturday is a little more than a cramp. I had to stop running and walk/hobble home. No bueno. As soon as I hit the balls of my feet to go up a hill, my whole calf just seized up.0

It was pouring when I normally get up so I went back to bed then a 6:15 it wasn't raining so I dashed out to get in some miles before I had to go to work.
I don't know why but my legs are just tired tired tired, they need to stop that.
@runningmischka First I can’t believe you pay $100 for races, just wow. I’m not sure I’ve ever even paid $50 for a race. Love the cap on the number of people. Everything about the course sounds wonderful. “this is what heavens looks like to me” ha ha I love this. Okay this sounds like the best race ever. Great finish congrats and who wouldn’t love to see that little face at the end. She’s beyond precious!
@PastorVincent I agree with you on things getting away from you. I for the most part don’t plan my rest days. Usually it’s Wed (cause I hate to run passed garbage cans on garbage day) and Saturdays because Skip has meets basically from August to May. I find if I plan too much it never works out.
So true @fitoverfortymom great observation about this group, so sorry about your calf
@juliet3455 Sorry about the back, ouch. Speaking of backs, how is your @stoshew71?
@hjeppley great job on the 5K Master’s win. Tell your sons congrats on his awesome finish! It’s like races with Skip, she’s done, been to the bathroom, got a banana and is back and finish waiting for me ha ha
Woohoo @mustb60 great job
This is one of the many reasons I love my girl. She usually gets me water when I come home from my runs in the morning, but since I went out late and she told a friend she would take her to school 30 minutes early for something she needed to do she was gone when I got home. But this was in the kitchen.

Hi everyone.
Having some minor issues with the new medication, in that it's making me absolutely exhausted. I'm still running though. Running actually helps wake me up once I get going.
The new medication has done a good job with regulating my moods, but my anxiety symptoms are still a problem. Last week at bowling I was fighting through a near panic attack the whole night. It was awful. Despite that, though, I still bowled halfway decent.
Congratulations to everyone who raced, marathoned, ultra'ed, etc.
Hoping to get out for a nice long run soon. Been really pressed for time lately with my son's music activities so it's been treadmill city for me.
October total so far is 77.6 miles.7 -
girlinahat wrote: »@PastorVincent - isn’t the steering wheel adjustment pretty much the same on all cars? (ie. a lever just below the shaft)? I have a Fit (Jazz we call it) and think it’s the same. Having said that, I don’t recommend steering wheel adjustment in a moving vehicle....
Here’s a quirk with measurements. Mazda have their own very special calculations for fuel usage. They give a figure for Miles per 100 Litres. So that’s a Japanese manufacturer, for the European (probably same in the US) market, trying to do what exactly?!!!!
That was me. No, the steering wheel adjustment lever isn't in the same place on every vehicle. It's somewhere on the steering shaft, but where and what it feels like vary by manufacturer. A simple up/down I could have managed while driving; I've found that in rental cars. But the Fit has up/down and telescope. I didn't know it moved with that complexity until I dug out the owner's manual, and I certainly wouldn't want to mess with that while moving. However, if I'd known where the lever was it would have been an option to pull over and adjust.
you know what - you are SO right!!! The lever is much lower than on other vehicles.
plus - I had NO idea it had a telescopic adjustment. That really made my day (especially with an early start and a colleague having a hissy fit the minute I got in and a very unpleasant first hour of the day) thank you!!!!
Honda are wonderful designers, they really think of everything. Pockets where you need them, littles lights and adjustments. Now if they would just start making their cars a BIT more exciting........

Thanks everyone for the kind word! This is one of the reasons why I love this group - you could be gone for days, then come back and receive nothing but support and encouragement. I runners!
@skippygirlsmom racing in Baltimore/Washington DC area is really expensive. Even something like 10k across the bay bridge is around $75. I've done that race once and never again! Running with 25,000+ other people is not as fun as it might sound actually. Now I am seeking local races more often than not.
And what a lovely note from Skip Those little things and special moments is really what love is about!
Quick question for trail runners. I would like to run a 15k trail race in about 3 weeks or so, and while I am not concerned about the distance, I have hesitations about the course itself since I've never ran a trail route this long. Is it too ambitious of me to attempt this race with only 3 weeks of training? I can also try 5k or 10k. The registration is the same for all 3 distances, so I just need to commit to one. Any tips or suggestions are appreciated. And be brutally honest if you don't think I can do it - I will take no offense4 -
Still way behind, trying to read through the highlights.
I haven't run in 9 days (since my Trail HM). I've been busy with several things, but mostly getting ready for, then going on a deer hunting trip with my son. Minnesota has a special youth-only deer season in October and this was the last year he's eligible to go. It had been a great trip, except for the lack of deer. Then, at literally the last minute of the three day trip, he shot his deer. The smile on his face was priceless!
Back to the running tonight. I need to get Kody into better shape for our pheasant hunting trip in 3 weeks.
@JessicaMcB beautiful story, great race!! I loved every bit of your RR
@OSUbuckeye906 I'm super impressed with how you stuck with it and finished the race. I race like that is more impressive than if everything had gone well.
@Orphia congrats on a great race! Love the photos.
@Elise4270 I've read about that Connect IQ app and plan to install it on my 230 once I figure out how. While it will re-align your cumulative distance while you race, it does NOT affect the final output from your GPS.
@HonuNui love the collage! Love the snorkeling vid too!
Ok, only 7 pages behind now!

Notes:
I leave for two days and come back to over 250 unread posts in this thread! There goes my hopes of catching up -_- since I've been gone: I did a 5 mile onion run o for "tempo thursday" (8:55, 8:30, 8:07, 7:43, 8:9 splits). Woke up with sore legs on friday, then had to go out and get in my long run for the week since I was going to spend the weekend backpacking. Long run was 10 miles at an average pace of 9:13; my legs felt much much less sore by the end, which was a good thing! Had an awesome time backpacking over the weekend; we were back on the Ice Age trail and got in about 11 miles each day. I've been doing better recently about packing, and was able to keep my pack to 21.15 lbs this trip (which includes 2.5 lbs of food and 2L of water). I still could have packed a little less though! We were just in time for some beautiful fall colors, mainly golds from all the maple trees. The only downside of the trip was that it rained all day sunday, and a good part of it was very heavy rainfall. I'm planning to thru-hike the AT after I get my PhD, hopefully summer of 2019, so I guess this was good practice for hiking in bad weather!

Just a quick check in to update my mileage from the weekend. Had some amazingly beautiful weather in Pittsburgh which made for fantastic fall runs, including some trails. And thanks to a decrease in expectations, I will likely make my goal this month for the first time in ages.
Not gonna be able to catch up with all that happened over the weekend, but just scanning through I saw some serious grit being demonstrated here!
@midwesterner85 - Way to go on your first full marathon. kudos to you for finishing despite having to deal with an added obstacle.
@MNLittleFinn - You are a beast, man. Congrats on finishing your first Ultra!! Haven't read the report yet, but looking forward to it!4
