The house is decorated! It’s way earlier than I usually do it, but the grandkids are coming tomorrow and won’t be back until Christmas Day so I wanted it done. I saved the tree until last. I put the character ornaments on first, then the white and silver balls. It looked so good with just the white and silver balls with the Santas, nutcrackers, etc providing the only pops of color that i left the colored balls in the box. All presents that have been bought are wrapped and under the tree. Still more to buy, but not many.
My daughter, granddaughter, and I are going to see The Nutcracker tomorrow afternoon while the men watch the Falcons Vikings game. Should be a fun day except someone in our house divided will be unhappy with the results of the game.
Felicia and Rori, I wish I could give you both a great big hug. Sometimes the unfairness of life just gets to you, you know? I have a friend who just lost her boyfriend. She has struggled so in the romance department and she was finally happy. Next thing you know he’s in ICU and then gone. I feel so helpless because really, there’s nothing one can say or do to make it better.
One win for the week: I made it to the gym every single day. I’ve been letting life get in the way too much lately. I’m glad to be back at it.

Welcome, this is a good place to come for encouragement and support. About joining the gym, you don't have to join for the rest of your life, just join for a month or a few months and see if you can keep the commitment to go regularly and if the exercise there is something you will do. I have an exercise bike in the middle of my living room so I can be active while indoors and watching TV.

Barbie: Thank you for getting us started for December and throughout 2017. I started MFP in December of 2012, and this community is the main reason I've kept with it.
November was a good month! My #1 goal was to ‘be lighter’ and I am down 1.8 pounds from October. I lose slowly, but steadily. I eat everything, except for alcohol because I found that there was something about the sugars in beer, wine, bourbon, etc. that totally blocked my ability to lose, regardless of CICO. So, until I’m on maintenance, I’m alcohol free.
December resolutions will look similar:
** be lighter
** 1900 calories burned as registered on my fitbit
** track how much water I drink
** become more intentional in letting friends know what they mean to me
I’m also enjoying hearing about everyone’s holidays and seeing the beautiful decorations. I made a vow of simplicity many years ago. That’s when I began letting go of many of the activities and tasks that made Christmas feel like an obligation and over-advertised extravaganza. Some years I get more ambitious than others, but for past 5 holiday seasons the food and decoration budget have been diverted to the food bank and rescue mission, and we keep everything here at home pretty low key. I’m actually thinking of going to Walmart and anonymously paying off someone’s layaway. Doesn’t that sound like fun?
Last night was my friend Julie’s memorial. It was a very casual gathering of neighbors and folks from her work. Her employer provided sub sandwiches and beverages, but nobody seemed to want to eat. The neighbors were all sheepishly introducing themselves to each other, as most of us only recognize one another from walking dogs, with the exception of yours truly who is known as “the Lady Who Walks the Cat”. Today, Julie’s daughter pulled up a large u-haul, and with the help of about 6 people, totally emptied her mom’s condo. It will be on the market soon, I’m sure. She gave me all her mom’s plants, which thrilled me. Julie owned the largest spider plant I had ever seen, and some beautifully potted prairie grasses. Her unit and mine enjoy the same footprint and sun exposure, so I have found places inside and outside that I think the plants, and my late friend, would appreciate. The u-haul, her daughter and her precious westie, Casper are enroute to Arizona as I write this. My head is reeling with how fast this all happened. Thank you all for your comforting words on the occasion of this loss.
Thinking of all of you who are going through this holiday season with painful memories, transitions, physical or emotional pain. May every day give you some reason to smile and feel grateful.
Meg: Yes, I know Denver traffic is a bear. Fortunately, I live in the suburbs and work at home, so seldom have to deal with it. Next time you’re here, let’s try to grab coffee.

Rori, so glad you'll have the plants to remind you of your friend... you're such a peaceful person, and so glad you're a part of my life. So glad you're ALL part of my life.
As far as Christmas goes, we're letting our daughter take the lead. We've not celebrated for just the two of us since our son left for the Air Force six years ago, now... This will be our first with the grandbabies, and my daughter wants it to be awesome for the kids, as, of course their dad won't be here.
Just kind of letting that sugar cookie crumble however it will. We're glad we're here, and the rest is all turkey gravy (one too many Christmas puns?)

Used for things like sprains.
I use the CE part of that if I've been exercising a lot, or on my feet a lot in a day, or if I've been flying. And I do that because I still have some lingering side effects of the DVT I had in 2009 (left leg full of clots from above the knee down), and my left ankle swells slightly. I'll wear my compression stockings and elevate my left leg for a while.
If it is an unfamiliar term, I highly recommend taking a comprehensive First Aid course. I've been taking First Aid courses, and refreshers since I was in my early 20s. The information has changed over the years, and now they divide the courses so the recommended one is heart and airways but a comprehensive one will give you injuries, illnesses, and environmental things as well.

Happy because I'm finished my decorating ... and still feeling some of the endorphins from my run earlier. That's probably why I was able to finish the decorating. I had energy!
Sad because of all the rain we're getting, and it is just pouring again now. It's heartbreaking. This is the last thing we need right now in the orchard. My poor husband was out there this morning trying to blow dry the cherries and said there had already been a loss. The loss is probably double now. He'll be back out there again tomorrow morning (in about 6 hours). The only thing that might help is the fact that the wind is supposed to start up sometime tonight and I think the rain is supposed to ease off in a couple hours.
We're absolutely glued to about half a dozen weather sites these days.
But as bad as it is here, Victoria (State on the mainland just north of us) is much worse. They've been really hard hit by the rain. We lived around the middle of Victoria for a number of years when I first came to Australia and our hearts are still there.

We've had 76 mm of rain, and all but 20 of that in the last 12 hours.
My husband has been out to the orchard all morning and it's just too boggy and wet to do any blowdrying ... but he figures the precautionary steps he took before the rain might have helped. And on the positive side the tanks and dams are full!
Unfortunately, it is still raining and it looks like we're in for another heavy downfall shortly.
It's also so cold we're getting snow at higher elevation. Welcome to summer!

Lanette, we used to send Christmas cards but over the years have stopped. I never did a Christmas letter but always enjoyed getting them from friends that we no longer see.
Felicia, my heart goes out to you. It is so hard when a loved one passes and we feel they weren’t treated the best that they could have been. I hope you can let go of the anger. ((((Hugs))))
Joyce, I certainly don’t envy you wearing that boot. I have such vivid memories of the same and my biggest problem was my back. Then I finally found a shoe for the other foot, that was the same heel height as the boot and I was fine.

Sue, you are so lucky that your DH likes to shop and help with decorations. Mine will help with the heavy lifting but that is about it. I hung every ornament on the tree and put out every snowman in the house. I would love just the least little help.
Meg, it’s so good to hear you sounding a little upbeat. I know none of this has been easy but you are stronger than you think. Do enough for Christmas to make you happy. That is what you need to concentrate on right now. Sending love your way. ((((Hugs))))

I went to the Moose Lodge this morning for an Orientation of new members. We had no one show up for it but the four officers. It wasn’t a totally wasted meeting though because the four of us sorted through some boxes of items and sent some to Goodwill, some we saved for a garage sale and a box of blankets will go to a homeless facility. The items needed to be cleared out by mid-January so now it’s done. After that I met DH and we went out for lunch where I ate too much and too many calories.

Meg, sending lots of hugs and encouragement to you. Your gratitude for what is going well shines through your writing. I know that you'll find the tools you need to get through this one day at a time. Your husband has a long road to recovery and having you supporting him will be great.

Did an extreme strength DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to ride the recumbant bike some and then do a yoga DVD
M - for the dough:
4 cups flour
2tsp salt (I never put this in)
3/4 cup milk
2/3 cup sour cream
1 egg
Mix all together until you get a dough. then I make small balls and run them thru a pasta maker to get the dough thin (my grandmother used to roll them with a rollingpin, but I would never be able to get them all the same thickness). I fill them with farmer's cheese (a dry cottage cheese). I pull the sides up and pinch them closed. Then I drop them in boiling water and when they float to the top, they are done.
This recipe can also be doubled. I have just had to play around with how much cheese is needed for one batch of pierogi. Last night I made 71.

Helped Vince with some of the outside decorations. Will work more on them tomorrow. Then made some chocolate cookies. I was going to make two batches, one to send to Penn and another for us, but I think I'll send him something else. Wish I could send "food" rather than cookies/cake etc.
Decorated the tree a bit more last night. I should still have a bit more to do. Found the small tree Bryan used to have in his room. I was positive I'd seen it, Vince thought we had donated it. It wasn't where I thought it would be, but it was in another container I'd totally forgotten we had. So I put the tree together all two parts of it....lol Should be nice on our table. I remember I made a tree skirt for it. Now to just find that skirt.
Carol - I'm with you, I really don't like the commercialism of the holiday. That's one of the reasons I enjoy making things to give people. Denise, on the other hand, is VERY materialistic.
NYKaren - I usually have things ready the night before for my exercise the next day. If I'm going to the Y or the place where I do the extremepump, I put the things in the car. If I'm doing something at home, I put my water down in my exercise room and have my clothes for whatever I'm doing laid out.
Wendy - you are so welcome for the "sour" advice. It worked for me, and I sure hope it works for you. Can't hurt, huh?
Allie - whatever dog you adopt will be one truly lucky dog. sure hope the landlord says "OK"
Have the Newcomer holiday party tonight. Going to watch what I eat. I know that my dessert will be some of the veges.

Rori - congrats on your loss for the month. That's awesome. What a wonderful thing to do to pay off someone's layaway! You are one in a million. My heart goes out to you dealing with the suddeness of having everything of your neighbor's cleaned out.
Just got back from the Newcomer holiday party. In a way, I'm getting more disappointed with the Crowne Plaza. I asked for water without ice. All they had to do was pour the water from the pitcher and not pour out the ice. No big deal. I did it, certainly the waiter could. But instead he brought me out a styrofoam cup of water. I asked if I could get a caraf of hot water. That's what they did last year. Instead I got a styrofoam cup of luke warm water. Evidentally (even tho I didn't eat any) they ran out of the desserts. But they did replenish them. To me, the food wasn't that good this year. I had one piece of turkey (scraped off as much of the gravy as I could), filled up on sweet potatoes and sugar snap peas (which were overcooked), had a salad of baby carrots (some of them were bitter) and spinach (no dressing), just water to drink. We're thinking of having the magician like we had a year ago, but I'm thinking we should have it at another place.

Hi all,
Spent the morning eating and laying around watching tv. Total slug! Not sure what’s gotten into me. I was going to get the tree up but didn’t. DH worked until 2:00. When he got home DD and I went shopping and out to dinner. We had a good time and I picked up some flannel pants and underwear for DH’s gift . He doesn’t ask for anything but I know he needed new flannel pants and it’s become traditional for me to give him underwear . DD bought herself a new sweater and was looking at a necklace that I’m going to go back and pick up for one of her gifts that will go with the new sweater. She wants us to give her money towards a passport as her gift but I wanted her to have something to open Xmas day too. My cousin didn’t want me to send them anything this year but I will send them some of my peanut brittle they love. So it’s really just DH, DD and I Christmas Day. I’ll probably make veggie lasagna that day.
I’m sending good thoughts and ((hugs)) to those struggling right now.

Hi hmo4, what's your name and where are you from? I think motivation is like teeth brushing, it's a daily necessity and it's something you do for yourself. I have lots of ways to stay motivated, and reading these posts is one of those things. I also look at a website called The Daily Motivator, by Ralph Marsden, as it has valuable wisdom that keeps me looking on the bright side of life. My dogs keep me motivated to go walking or running. My scales keep me motivated to watch my diet. My pants keep me motivated to stay slim enough to zip them up. LOL. My daughters keep me motivated to set a good example in my actions and words. My fears keep me motivated to try my best so I don't get sucked down. Feel free to help yourself to any of my motivations. Wendy1

Hi all. Thanks for your understanding and words of encouragement. I went to a 30 minute core class this morning then did some shopping with my little guy. I slept all afternoon. The boys had to wake me up to make dinner, so I was up for a few hours. I'm back in bed, dozing off and on. I am in full grieving mode now, I think. I'm weepy all the time. Even right now. I'm not crying, but tears are slowly falling and have been for the last few hours.
My mom asked me about the ashes, and I put her off by reminding her it will be about a week. I need to call the cremation guy on Monday to find out if he knows more about when he can take care of her. I will feel better once she's home.
I've been snacking a lot. I've been allowing it for today, but I need to get back on track tomorrow.
