February goal: Keep kicking at Zumbro training
Nominal mileage goal: Let's say 140? I really don't know. Real plan is to follow training and coach's advice well.
2/1- REST
2/2- 5.5
2/3- 16.6
2/4- 4.2
2/5- REST
2/6- 9.1
2/7- 6.7
2/8- REST
2/9- 5.5
2/10-10
2/11- 9.8
2/12- RESR
2/13- 6.8
Total: 74.2
Today's notes: Pushed it too hard today... why is it that I always push my road runs too hard??? Anyway, assignment was a 1 hour "easy" road run. Ended up running 15 seconds longer than that, but whatever. Got in 6.8 miles, which is really pushing it....oops.... This cold is still kicking my rear, so we'll see how the rest of the day goes.
Side note, I Emailed my coach to let him know that I had to walk some on my hill reps yesterday, band that my HR was reaching 175 on those short 2 min reps. He replied that that's exactly what he's looking for now, that he wants me pushing it harder on the hills to build strength.... I guess he's already working me toward my non-competition goal of mastering hills this year.

3/28- END-SURE 50k
4/13- Zumbro Endurance Race 100 Mile
7/28- Minnesota Voyageur 50 (coach brought up this one)

Hoping to squeeze in another 3 today!5 -
February
Goal: 35 miles <--this might have been a bit optimistic or just bad math! LOL.
Completed: 9.75 miles
02/02/2018: C25K - Week 5 Day 1
02/05/2018: C25K - Week 5 Day 2
02/07/2018: C25K - Week 5 Day 3
02/09/2018: C25K - Week 6 Day 1
02/10/2018: C25K - 2 hours of horse training/riding
02/09/2018: C25K - 3 miles of snowshoeing
02/12/2018: C25K - Week 6 Day 2
02/14/2018: C25K - Week 6 Day 3
Today's run was 22 minutes or 2.25 miles - I opted to shoot for the distance, not time. Seems odd anyone doing C25k could actually run a 2.25 miles in 22 minutes but I digress. I took 27 minutes and probably should've gone slower (heart rate was a bit high again). Still - I did it, it felt great and I can't wait to run again on Friday. I think i'm actually gonna beat this thing and graduate!9 -
February 3 – 13.1 miles
February 4 – 6 miles
February 5 – 5 miles
February 7 – 5 miles
February 9 – 7 miles
February 10 – 14 miles
February 11 – 3.8 miles
February 12 – 5 miles (treadmill)
February 14 – 5 miles
@MichSmish – Your mileage always inspires me but keeping it up on a cruise – that’s pretty awesome!
@KatieJane83 – Nice wrist candy! (Just realized that I graduated from high school the year you were born. Reminder to self, age is just a number, just a number…) Happy Birthday!
@MobyCarp – You can also buy your way into Disney World runs. A friend missed getting into the Princess HM before it filled up so she got in through raising funds for a charity. I think she actually just wrote a check to the charity and counted it as one expensive run!
@shanaber – Another friend ran Disney’s Wine and Dine one year. I was disappointed to hear that you had to purchase the wine and food that was available at the finish line. What kind of reward is that?
@rheddmobile – We got a lot of rain this weekend and experienced some flooding. I live up high on a ridge but to get any place, all roads lead down and the creek that runs alongside the road a couple of miles from my house was covering the road pretty deep on Sunday. I enjoyed the excuse to stay home all day. Thankfully, it was down out of the road by Monday morning.
@girlinahat – Well said! I’m a back of the packer also. I figure we are just getting the most out of our registration fee!
Another Wednesday morning run in the rain. The temp was great though at 48F! Happy Valentine’s Day fellow lovers of running!
Upcoming Races:
February 24-25 – Gasparilla Amber Challenge (15K & 5K on Saturday; Half Marathon on Sunday)
May 6 – Pittsburgh Half Marathon
8 -

2/2 33 min elliptical+yoga
2/3-9 miles w/ 7 @ tempo
2/4-12 miles easy
2/5-Rest Day
2/6-1.8 miles with Stella (under the weather)
2/7-6.5 miles
2/8-5 miles (treadmill) + 30 minutes strength training (legs and core)
2/9-20 minutes yoga
2/10-6.2 miles (frozen 10K) + 1.7 miles with Stella
2/11-8.6 miles
2/12 Rest Day
2/13-6.2 miles easy
2/14-2.1 miles with Stella
We finally had a break in the weather and it was a beautiful 43 degrees this morning. I decided to get a short run in even though it was a cross train day (the plan I am doing takes recovery weeks seriously!). I got out early to walk the dog first, but she seemed to be enjoying the weather as much I was, so I decided just to run with her instead. My run ended up being shorter than planned because sniff breaks and poops happen, but it was worth it. A great start to an easy day. Hoping to get in one of the P90X3 stretch or yoga videos in later before my husband and I cook an epic Valentine's Day dinner together.9 -
@girlinahat - 11-12min pace is great and better than all those people who never get out the door! I always tell myself that there are always going to be people faster, much faster than me but there may also be people slower too. Heck even with my slow (terrible) HM run a few weeks ago I finished ahead of 2500 other runners and 120 other women in my AG.
@Teresa502 - For Disney the races have become a real money maker and there is so much demand. I ran the inaugural Star Wars HM here and could not believe the merchandise and what they were charging for it. We had fun at the expo but were expecting lots of picture ops and fun events but mostly they were just promoting their other races. After the race there was nothing notable although my husband said they were showing movie clips to keep everyone entertained while they waited. I am glad I did one, I just probably won't ever do another one.6 -
No run since Saturday. No run tonight. I may have the flu now. Slept in past 10 this morning and that felt good.12

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY11 -
I just went on a race buying spree... $375 later and I'm registered for 10 races. Oh and that includes $35 in additional donations.
7 trail races
3 St Patrick's Day (one is a challenge with a 1k kilt run Fri/8k run Sat so not like 3 full races).
And there's another race in May I'd like to do but registration isn't open yet. Plus I want to do the Rock n Roll Vegas marathon but that's not open yet either.13 -

I'm thinking about saving up to go skiing/snowboarding. But that'll pass when the Olympics are over. I still have Big Sur half on my buck list. I gotta get better at walking first though
There are around 6000 slots reserved for charity runners. They need to be involved with one of the sponsoring charities, and I think they need to raise a minimum of $5000. So yes, if you have that kind of money to throw around on top of the entry fee and the hotel (not an issue for locals, I suppose), you could buy your way into Boston. But I think the vast majority of the charity runners really do the hard work of doing fund raising for a cause they believe in. In my case, raising $5K for charity would be harder than just running a BQ marathon to get in.
^^^^ this. Most big races reserve charity places, and they have pretty big targets to hit for those going in with one.
Not for me... I think it would be much easier to raise $5K than to run a BQ race in 3:02 or faster (technically 3:05, but we know they cut a few min. off when it comes down to sending out invites). I'm not saying either is actually easy, but by comparison it is actually possible to raise $5K and I don't think it is possible for me to run a marathon in that time.3 -

For me, the allure of running the Boston marathon had more to do with setting the difficult goal of a qualifying time and working my *kitten* off to achieve it. For achieving that goal, running the marathon was the reward. I agree that raising $5K for charity is also a difficult challenge. But I would be more likely to take that challenge on by raising the money for a local event like the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation Walk or something that is close to me. That kind of accomplishment would be its own reward. For me, I just don't associate the "reward" of running the race with the goal of raising the money.4 -
Lol - *love*...is that an MFP Valentine's Day special?5

what trail races?
6 of them are a series called Cactus Flower Run Series. 3 in spring, 3 in fall. A 5k, 6k, and 7k at either White Tanks or Estrella Mountain parks.
The other is a new one called Hot as Hell in May. Its the same company and race as the one I did so badly at a few weeks ago. I signed up for the quarter knowing I'd never be able to do the same loop twice for the half.
I'm not to the high mile races like you and Jessica. I still have yet to do my marathon.2 -

I think both would be hard for me. I'll be lucky if I can finish a marathon in under 5 hours. I tried to raise money once for celiac disease in conjunction to a race I was doimg amd got one donation of $50 haha1 -

My first half marathon back in 2010 was run at a 12:17min pace. Yep it was slow, but I finished it, and as you say, I was a darn sight faster than all those people at home on the couch. I improved the pace to a whopping 11:10min pace the following year for my second and third HMs.
I then managed to injure myself and stayed away from the distance for quite a few years. Ran my fourth HM last November and no one was more surprised than me when my pace ended up being a shade under a ten minute mile and I finished fourth in my age-group. No, I'm never going to qualify for Boston, but as long as I keep improving I'm happy.12 -
2.14 miles this morning for Valentine's Day and the "Luv 2 Run" virtual race. When I signed up for this one, I hadn't yet run more than a mile or so nonstop, so 2.14 felt like a nice stretch goal. But this morning it was my "short and easy" run for the week. What a difference a little time and determination can make, no?
