Went for a bike ride today instead of a run. Wow, I really can get my HR (or at least perceived effort level, as my watch says my HR wasn't that high) up there on a bike. I felt so out of shape, although I know it's more that I haven't been riding much all winter. I clearly need to get back into cycling regularly, as much as the weather will allow. I thought the bike trail would be in a similar condition to my mostly-clear driveway, but parts of it were actually a solid sheet of last week's footprints/tracks/etc all frozen over. So I couldn't even fly down the hill and try to get momentum for the next uphill. Whew, that was a good workout!

I've gone for a ride and barely make 6 miles and pack it in and decide to run for an hour because its easier! I bought a mountain bike so I can go slower and the hills are shorter! I agree the perceived effort feels greater than running.

@Link2Life Re: Strava. All I know to do is search for MFP monthly running challenge in the clubs. If you can't find it, I think we can send u a request by email. Just PM @7lenny7 , @Stoshew71, @seanevan10 or myself with your email and/or screen name.

Disclaimer. Someone may know better than I.

@lporter229 when Skip was a Girl Scout she was not allowed to sell door to door. Only at houses they knew. That is why they sell in front of stores or online or at mom and dads place of business. Skip was the dealer at school, she'd bring in boxes and sell at lunch time. This was high school and she would easily sell 10 to 20 boxes a day sometimes more.

My daughter was doing girl scouts up until a couple years ago. They told us not to go door to door, but we did anyway. We lived in an apartment complex and hit up every door in ours, the complex next door, and the ones down the block. My daughter easily sold over 700 boxes 2 years in a row. lol Then we got burnt out, cause it was a lot of work, and she only did the "in front of Kroger" thing.

I think I have to fix some math on my log, but my run was awesome this morning. I've had a tough time figuring out what plan (because I need a plan) I want to follow for my 10k trail run in April. I've decided to do the back half of the Hal Higdon Novice 2 HM plan. It's the distances and frequencies that I enjoy running and can schedule without feeling like I'm cramming it in and no longer enjoying it. Last week was kind of dumpy but I think the fog has lifted after this morning's run!

Thanks everyone. Now the process of getting my lungs and legs to catch up lol.

@Stoshew71 I know it had you for a while too. It's upsetting me because of Oak Barrel but I knew that wouldn't be a PR course for me so it will be what it is.

You will still like Oak Barrel. It's a fun race, awesome post race bling, and great food. Plus tour of the distillery.

That is a sad statement about our world today that kids can no longer go door to door in their own neighborhoods to sell things. We did it all the time as kids and it taught us a lot. My brother and I also had a paper route, which is also a thing of the past. I feel really sorry for today's youth. It is no big surprise that so many of them have troubles adjusting to social situations. Good for Skip for taking that initiative. Another example of why she is a great kid and you are a great Mom!

In the town where I live, it is ILLEGAL for kids to go door to door... $1000 fine. Seriously.

Now THAT'S taking crime seriously!! smh...

We only found out cause I sent my son out with his school fund raiser and someone actually made it clear they intended file a complaint if he showed up again. Did not believe it... till I looked up the law, and sure enough, it is real.

Where I live, there are solicitation ordinances too. In my city specifically, they need to buy a license to solicit door to door. Frankly, I think it is ridiculous. It truly doesn't bother me if someone rings my bell trying to sell something. If I don't want to buy it, I'll just say no... is that really such a bother?!

Another run in heavy rain this evening forced me to run a bit faster than I had wanted. Now I have two pairs of wet shoes that won't be dry for my run tomorrow. Time to hit the archives.

    2/4 - strength
    2/5 - rest
    2/6 - 6.0km
    2/7 - 3.1km
    2/8 - 6.3km

    2/10 - 8.3 km

    2/13 - 6.3 km
    2/14 - ate sushi & watched Olympics
    2/15 - 6.7 km
    2/16 - stretch
    2/17 - 9.8 km
    2/18 - rest (stretching)
    2/19 - rest (stairs)
    2/20 - stairs (25 flights, running)
    2/21 - 6.9km

    68.9/100 km

I don't think I'll make my goal of 110km this month due to forgetting it only has 28 days. Revising my goal down to 100km.

It was -7 today when I set out, -9C when I finished. Balmy. Legs are really tired and sore, and calves are really tight from all the stairs yesterday (and I've still got around 400 stairs to go for a challenge I'm enrolled in). I bought a foam roller a few weeks ago but haven't used it yet - I'll do some stretching and figure out how it works tonight.

    Upcoming Races:
1/1/18 Resolution Run 5K ~38:00 (no official times)
    3/4/18 MEC Road Race #1 10K
    4/7/18 Jasper Half Marathon

    6/24/18 MEC Trail Race #3 15K
    8/18/18 Edmonton Marathon 10K
    9/2/18 MEC Trail Race #4 10K
    10/7/18 MEC Trail Race #5 15K

Way to go @RunsOnEspresso ! Isn't it funny how different temps fell oddly different.

You'd figure 58'd be warm. Today's high here was 31 with sleet/ frozen mix, yesterday morning it was 72. I shoveled off the walk today in pj pants, no socks, cowboy boots, a tee and a hoodie and was fine, it was 27 out.

@Elise4270 We have such dry air here that 58 feels colder here than when I was in Wisconsin. Plus we just had highs of 80s so the drop is crazy.

I think it is to stop the professional door-to-door salespeople, which can be very annoying, but there is no exception in the law for kids and I have heard of cases of people pushing it to court against the kids. *sigh*

I just got one of those. Only used it once so far, but had 2 pairs of shoes on it and it mostly had them dry in 50 mins.
