It's really interesting to me how quickly my HR is adapting. I think it was last week when I mentioned it seemed to be high during these longer runs. Today I ran the full 2.5 miles just a hair faster and my HR didn't go up, in fact, it stayed lower for much longer. I'm a data junkie (IT Finance Analyst is my day job) so i like capturing the stats.
BTW - I used to be a premium member of Strava but stopped using it after I sold my road bike. Can someone share w/me how to join the group for these challenges? If ya'll don't mind a newbie, I'd like to join. I use Garmin Connect + Endomondo so why not add back Strava?

polskagirl01 wrote: »Went for a bike ride today instead of a run. Wow, I really can get my HR (or at least perceived effort level, as my watch says my HR wasn't that high) up there on a bike. I felt so out of shape, although I know it's more that I haven't been riding much all winter. I clearly need to get back into cycling regularly, as much as the weather will allow. I thought the bike trail would be in a similar condition to my mostly-clear driveway, but parts of it were actually a solid sheet of last week's footprints/tracks/etc all frozen over. So I couldn't even fly down the hill and try to get momentum for the next uphill. Whew, that was a good workout!
I've gone for a ride and barely make 6 miles and pack it in and decide to run for an hour because its easier! I bought a mountain bike so I can go slower and the hills are shorter! I agree the perceived effort feels greater than running.1 -
@Link2Life Re: Strava. All I know to do is search for MFP monthly running challenge in the clubs. If you can't find it, I think we can send u a request by email. Just PM @7lenny7 , @Stoshew71, @seanevan10 or myself with your email and/or screen name.
Disclaimer. Someone may know better than I.2 -
Have to update my log still, but it hit 20F which is my favorite cold temp to run in and had a great 4.2 miler. I love the runs that make you feel like you could just do it forever. Now, lunch!5

2/2 33 min elliptical+yoga
2/3-9 miles w/ 7 @ tempo
2/4-12 miles easy
2/5-Rest Day
2/6-1.8 miles with Stella (under the weather)
2/7-6.5 miles
2/8-5 miles (treadmill) + 30 minutes strength training (legs and core)
2/9-20 minutes yoga
2/10-6.2 miles (frozen 10K) + 1.7 miles with Stella
2/11-8.6 miles
2/12 Rest Day
2/13-6.2 miles easy
2/14-2.1 miles with Stella+ yoga
2/15-6.1 miles + P90X3 Dynamix
2/16- 32 minutes stationary bike+ P90X3 Isometrix
2/17-10.3 miles
2/18-14.1 miles
2/19-Rest day (with bits of stretching snuck in where I could)
2/20-7.1 miles ladder intervals
2/21-2 mile morning run in the rain w/Stella + PM TBD
Stella and I had a good run this morning. We got caught in the pouring rain, but that just seemed to motivate her to run rather than sniff. We were running along our normal route and she made the turns rather than making a beeline for home, so I don't think she minded one bit. I have at least 4 more mile to get in this evening. The rain is not supposed to let up, so I will likely be getting wet again. In fact, it is supposed to rain straight through until Sunday. 10 miles on the schedule for tomorrow, so that will be fun.
Also, we are supposed to leave for our "ski" weekend in Deep Creek, MD on Friday. The forecast for the weekend is high 50s and steady rain. Pretty dreadful ski conditions. I am going to take me skis, but I don't have high hopes for getting any skiing in. Also going to take my trail shoes. That might be a lot more fun!

This was high school and she would easily sell 10 to 20 boxes a day sometimes more.
My daughter was doing girl scouts up until a couple years ago. They told us not to go door to door, but we did anyway. We lived in an apartment complex and hit up every door in ours, the complex next door, and the ones down the block. My daughter easily sold over 700 boxes 2 years in a row. lol Then we got burnt out, cause it was a lot of work, and she only did the "in front of Kroger" thing.

I think I have to fix some math on my log, but my run was awesome this morning. I've had a tough time figuring out what plan (because I need a plan) I want to follow for my 10k trail run in April. I've decided to do the back half of the Hal Higdon Novice 2 HM plan. It's the distances and frequencies that I enjoy running and can schedule without feeling like I'm cramming it in and no longer enjoying it. Last week was kind of dumpy but I think the fog has lifted after this morning's run!

@Stoshew71 I know it had you for a while too. It's upsetting me because of Oak Barrel but I knew that wouldn't be a PR course for me so it will be what it is.1 -

@skippygirlsmom - Hope you are on the mend!

That is a sad statement about our world today that kids can no longer go door to door in their own neighborhoods to sell things. We did it all the time as kids and it taught us a lot. My brother and I also had a paper route, which is also a thing of the past. I feel really sorry for today's youth. It is no big surprise that so many of them have troubles adjusting to social situations. Good for Skip for taking that initiative. Another example of why she is a great kid and you are a great Mom!
In the town where I live, it is ILLEGAL for kids to go door to door... $1000 fine. Seriously.
Now THAT'S taking crime seriously!! smh...
We only found out cause I sent my son out with his school fund raiser and someone actually made it clear they intended file a complaint if he showed up again. Did not believe it... till I looked up the law, and sure enough, it is real.
Where I live, there are solicitation ordinances too. In my city specifically, they need to buy a license to solicit door to door. Frankly, I think it is ridiculous. It truly doesn't bother me if someone rings my bell trying to sell something. If I don't want to buy it, I'll just say no... is that really such a bother?!0 -

I don't think I'll make my goal of 110km this month due to forgetting it only has 28 days. Revising my goal down to 100km.
It was -7 today when I set out, -9C when I finished. Balmy. Legs are really tired and sore, and calves are really tight from all the stairs yesterday (and I've still got around 400 stairs to go for a challenge I'm enrolled in). I bought a foam roller a few weeks ago but haven't used it yet - I'll do some stretching and figure out how it works tonight.

Today's notes – If I had been organized, I could have run this morning when it was 61º F (16º C) outside. I wasn't, the temperature fell as forecast, and I drove across town to the Wednesday evening group run. According to Garmin, it was 39º F (4º C) when we started. Wind wasn't a factor, and I really enjoyed the run. The first 5 miles were a bit slow to stay with the group, then I picked it up and ran about MP back to the store while a few speed demons went faster than I did.
While it was cold compared to morning, and compared to yesteday's run, it was still very good running weather. Wore reflective gear and lights for my first run in the dark since . . . early November? The routine is still familiar, and being warm enough to be comfortable makes the darkness just not that big a deal.
I expect tomorrow to be the first time I run 3 days in a row since early November. Feeling pretty normal now, and I hope it stays that way.
2018 races:

Way to go @RunsOnEspresso ! Isn't it funny how different temps fell oddly different.
You'd figure 58'd be warm. Today's high here was 31 with sleet/ frozen mix, yesterday morning it was 72. I shoveled off the walk today in pj pants, no socks, cowboy boots, a tee and a hoodie and was fine, it was 27 out.1 -
@Elise4270 We have such dry air here that 58 feels colder here than when I was in Wisconsin. Plus we just had highs of 80s so the drop is crazy.1

I think it is to stop the professional door-to-door salespeople, which can be very annoying, but there is no exception in the law for kids and I have heard of cases of people pushing it to court against the kids. *sigh*0 -

I just got one of those. Only used it once so far, but had 2 pairs of shoes on it and it mostly had them dry in 50 mins.0
