Becca, good progress. It’s amazing how quickly they get you up and walking. Good thoughts for continued progress.
(((Allie)))
Just shoveled snow. DH wanted to do it but I wouldn’t let him because his back was already in pain. We have so much snow that I ran out of room to put it. We are in trouble if we get another storm. As you can see in these pictures, the snow is up to the deck so no where to put the snow that’s on the deck. Made a tiny path to the wood shed and hardly had room to put that.

Barbie and Becca so glad your husband's surgeries went well. Here's to a full recovery!

I sometimes come across DH on his walk as I run round. I feel a bit embarassed as I am sooooooo slow, but he is always very encouraging.
Came back to find the removal estimate guy had arrived early. He seemed very nice/young/attractive. Took him round the house and in the annexe we showed him the gigantic old tv we had failed to carry downstairs. He offered to help DH and between them they shifted it into the car. The most difficult thing in the house is the three exercise machines, which are BIG and HEAVY. Might need an extra van for those.
So all good. DH is ploughing on with reading my memoir. I am editing, using his corrections and suggestions. Then I remember an episode that I haven't included, so I'm going to have to add that. He says I could be clearer with the sequence in the early part and he's not sure about the title. All good suggestions.
Lanette - Bea goes to a little playschool a few hours a week, with the nanny. She will be part time at a nursery soon. Edie goes to a nursery for a couple of days and a morning. She starts school in September, when she is five. Their wonderful nanny is planning to leave at Christmas. Don't know what DDIL and DS will do then. They will still need some help, especially during the school holidays. They need a KJ.

Terry - I bet your snow shoveling (and KJ's too) more than makes up for lack of kettle bells. I did a little shoveling this spring - I think we had 6" a month ago and that snow was heavy!
Come on spring!

Just touching base here. I need prayers and good vibes. I had a big anxiety setback and while I am trying to stabilize DH shows me his blood sugar levels and they look bad. I feel pretty lost right now. Wanted to lose weight for my birthday but this is not the way to do it.

Sorry to hear you are going through a tough time. Take care of yourself and just do the best you can. Don’t give yourself more to stress over. Your birthday is just a day and you have 364 others.(Hugs)))

Slept a lot today. Had to go have a bone density test this afternoon.
Terry- that is a lot of snow. I hope it melts soon. I won’t tell you what our weather is in TX.
Allie- yep, got there at 8 am and went right in left the office at 2 pm. My front teeth had old mercury fillings and had to be capped. They make the tooth right there so it is all done. The only way I could sit there that long was I was sedated with sleeping pills. Actually it as six teeth. Lots of $$$.
Beth- what an ordeal and I bet it was freezing outside too.

Did an hour of an Advanced Strength Training DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to take the water class.
Volunteered at the green room, then went to Aldi, Habitat for Humanity, stopped at ACMoore to get a 3" cookie cutter, home to put the groceries away, then went to get my hair cut, home for dinner, Newcomer bowling tonight, now home and here.
Rori - I'm so glad you had such a great trip. Thanks for the pics. Boy, I don't know that I can go on the roller coaster like you did
I bet next week the Big Bang Theory will have some sort of tribute to Steven Hawkins
Suebdew - 6 hours!!!
Beth - what an adventure you had! I probably would have had the whole pie

Super long day at work, all the young teachers are getting engaged, buying houses and having babies and not always in that order!! Makes me feel old. Still I like being around the young talent-fresh with ideas and energy, I try to learn something from them every chance I get.

Barbie, I hope they sedated your husband well before discharge. Check in when you can.
Oh Beth, you sure had quite the drive. Yes, you will both have a laugh about it. In some odd way, it makes me feel good that 1 police man was there. I don't see why the second one was there.
I have had a runny nose and it is awful to use both my hands to blow it. Kleenex and toilet paper are the two things that are so painful to me.
Someone asked whether wearing the glove helps the pain. It helps a bit. I can't put my fingers where they belong, they are just to cold. So all my fingers are in a tight fist inside my glove. That is the only thing that helps. If I forget to have my glove with me, the cuff if my sleeve becomes my glove. At least I don't feel stoned.
This morning I literally woke up on the wrong side of me bed. My alarm rang and I sat up on the side of the bed and took my blood pressure to see if I needed my medicine. I didn't need it as usual but did take my dose of Lyrica. I don't know why I laid back down because I needed to go to the bathroom. So I tried to get up. Well the covers just weren't working the way the should for me to get out of bed. I finally got my feet on the floor and got up. Well that's as far as I got since the wall was there. So I got back in the bed and got out on the right side.
Well it was 65 degrees out today but it really didn't feel it. But Mozart enjoyed sitting on the top perch of the cat condo just enjoying the view. His tail flicks around as birds come around. That's about the most excitement you get out of him.
Has March madness hit your areas yet? It is BIG in Indiana, but we also have our high school teams in their march madness. Here in Evansville we have teams that are from div 1, 2, 3, and 4. So sometimes we have a couple of teams in the state championship from 2 divisions.
Hope you all have a good night and I get my taxes done tomorrow. I hate to do them yet when I get them done I ask myself why I put them off for so long. One year I sent then in April 13th.
Joyce, Indiana7 -
Beth, oh my, that's quite the adventure! Glad no one was hurt through all of it. I'm sure you both will laugh about it eventually, maybe not right away, but eventually!
Terry, that is a whole lotta snow! Sure hope you get a break from all that stuff soon!
Betty, shouldn't your hubby be watching his own diet in order to keep his blood sugar in line? While it would probably be good for both of you do be following a diabetic diet, your hubby shouldn't be laying his high blood sugar at your feet. He is an adult, after all. This is just my opinion, of course, please feel free to ignore me. One day at a time.....
Suebdew, oh my, that's an awfully long time to spend in a dentist's chair! Thank heavens for sedation!!
Joyce, I'm with you, I'd been putting off my taxes for awhile, finally did them yesterday, and I have no idea why I was putting it off, it was really quite easy. Glad that you are getting some relief from the lyrica. Despite the fact that you are in some pain, I guess it's good that it means the nerves are coming back.
Have had two good days, today had a few hiccups, but no nonstop grazing, so happy about that. Have my stuff all packed for the gym tomorrow morning and then work. I took some of my homemade veggie soup out of the freezer today, it's still too frozen for me to use tomorrow, but at least I have lunch for the weekend!
Hope everyone has a great day/night!

Jake will be discharged today. The surgeon came in and told us more details about the surgery. The next adventure will be my driving us home and Jake doing his best to keep quiet and not tell me how to drive
Beth hugs to you
Wendy our HP printer is also a scanner and copier and fax
Congrats on a successful surgery and timely discharge. Yep I always drive the 2 and a half hour drive home. Husband usually falls asleep once I get out of the city.
Hoping Jake recovers swiftly, and you don't have to hold your tongue too much, whilst being an awesome nurse!

Mary, well, I did it. I did day 1 of the 4 week kettlebell plan you posted the beginning of March. I used 8lbs and didn’t quite make it through the last 2 sets of the swings. Afterwards my legs were so rubbery I could hardly walk. They are still rubbery. I’m sooo out of shape. But it’s a start. There were only 2 others using the gym when I went. I thought going at 2pm maybe no one would be there but no such luck. Maybe I’ll have to do it at home and then I can pop in the shower afterwards. I sweat so much. I’ll figure it out. The only question I have is what happen after week 2. I’m assuming I continue to increase the swings and the squats stay the same? I’m thick when it comes to stuff like this. Usually I’m not this dense. Really, I’m not.
Well back to work, Terry
Congratulations on your successful first week! You are right about increasing the number of sets of swings. The number of sets of squats always will stay the same. The reason is that the main purpose of the squat is really for stretching and warm up. I love having my own set of Kettlebells at home. It is so convenient to workout. If you get confused let me know!

Day 2 update: Lee is taking baby steps. Still a catheter in, and bell drain in from bowels area that is removing any leakage from incision. Still has epidural in for pain. He got up and walked some today. Using a walker, he was able to go out of his room and down the hall maybe 10 ft. He's not into doing anything, just sleeping. With time he'll be able to focus. Hopefully he'll be able to have clear liquids tomorrow. Presently the doctor have him on ice chips, and ice water. Had a slight fever of 100 this evening, and his oxygen saturation levels were at 88% which put him back on a tube in his nose.
I'm doing well. Walking off and on all day!

Machka - when the teleporter gets out of the shop, I want to zip over and walk with you on that beach. Last I heard they are waiting on a part from the international space station so don't hold your breath.
That would be nice!!
And I'd love to have a teleporter!!!
Friday evening ... I'm about to go change into cycling gear, and let the weekend begin. The plan is to cycle and then to visit the local street food market.
This weekend is slightly more relaxing than last weekend.

Hi all,
Sending love and big ((((HUGS)))) to Betty. My DH suffers from anxiety attacks and they are no joke. He has been hugely helped by relaxation CDs, following a CBT approach. He still does them a couple of times a week. He went to a CBT therapist for a while. It does take a while as you have to practice changing your thoughts, but he is much improved.
Love to Beth for her brush with the law! I hate anything to do with cars almost as much as I hate anything to do with computers/phones. They should OBEY ME and not cause me trouble.
Can't decide whether to have a run today. I can't run over the weekend as we are in Hove for Bea's party and snow is forecast for Sunday am.. My legs are still a bit tired from yesterday, but I don't like going more than two days without running.
Must remember to take plenty of layers - their house is hot in the bedrooms, but chilly downstairs as the rooms are big and all the heat goes upstairs. I'm always sneakily turning up their heating and then the poor kids are sweating at bedtime!
Got to wrap Bea's baby doll and her silver baseball cap today.
Sending good vibes for the convalescents.
Ploughing on with my editing.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx7 -

When I go to my sister-in-law's place, I've made a point of bringing my sheepskin slippers. Her place is not well insulated and is in a dark valley that gets quite cold and damp, even on warmer days. If my feet are warm, I'm usually pretty much OK.

Hi ladies, I am Liz. I'm newly 50 & new to The community board. This l looks like my kind of thread.
my February goal was to complete Whole30, a 30-day meditation challenge, and Daily Yoga At least 80% of the days. I met and or exceeded all of those goals. in addition I lost 4 pounds.
My goals for March have been similar. Mindful and gradual transition from Whole30. Continuing my 30-day meditation Challenge and increasing my Daily Yoga to at least 90% of the days. I am hoping to lose another two or three pounds this month, but I am not in a hurry.
So far I have been doing well with my goals. Have I added stevia and my morning coffee and vanilla extract on Whole30. I'm being very careful. I have completed my meditation and Daily Yoga for all 16 days of the month so far. I'm feeling really motivated but this weekend maybe a challenge.
Looking forward to getting to know you all.7 -
Welcome, Liz, thanks for telling us about yourself. Let us know about where you are, and stay with us!
Betty, my heart and all the good thoughts are on the wing to you. Hope the anxiety lessens. Determination to lose any amount of weight by any given date can be a driver for some, but it sounds like it's adding to an already stressful time for you.
Barbie - hope the trip home went well.
Becca - sounds like Lee's progressing well. Hope all continues to go well. It does help when it's a familiar situation, but I know y'all are tired of hospitals by this point.
Three days off stretches out in front of me with no pressure to do, or be anything or anywhere. Such luxury! Plus, the vast majority of the big grant deadlines are all done, so work pressures have lightened for the moment. Much relief on that front.
I think the only plan for today is take the hubby somewhere that he can get his hair cut, while my nearly 3-year-old granddaughter and I walk around somewhere nearby, like a mall or a store. A low-stress day sounds pretty awesome.
Love y'all,
Lisa in NC... for 28 more days...

Morning Ladies~
I am up and having my tea.. I usually go out with my friend Doris but didnt warn her in time so I might go shopping on my own.. and then go to my dads..6 -
Good morning all! It is pajama day at daycare today! Yea! So I get to stay in my pjs all day, play with flashlights in the tent fort in the living room, do puzzles, read books, keep my "wubbie" with me, have breakfast for lunch, and maybe a movie in the afternoon. Quite possibly one of my favorite party days. We will be making Leprechaun glue for our craft (I have given the parents a small pot of chocolate gold for the kids; the kids will spread some leprechaun glue on the grass at home and they will ALMOST catch a leprechaun who will leave them chocolate coins for a "nice try") I am taking my St. Patty's Day decorations over to my inlaws tomorrow. I will also be bringing corned beef and cabbage, potatoes and carrots to make while I visit. We will have a nice dinner, MIL's hubby can go to Saturday mass, and they will have leftovers for Reuben's (I am bringing some rye bread, sourkraut, swiss cheese and 1000 Island dressing). Going to be a good weekend I think.
Beth- Wow! What an adventure! I had to giggle a bit, it reminded me a little of a Laurel and Hardy comedy routine. Maybe the three stooges minus one stooge?
Heather- Awe! You know I would be there in a heartbeat to care for your littles! It is so stressful, as a parent, to have to find care for your kids. You are basically trusting a complete stranger with your most precious people. I am sure some one wonderful will come into the picture to care for them! Hmmmm...as for whether to run today...you probably could do it and be fine, or you could walk it and still get in the distance and exercise before having two days off.
Terry- Holy Snow! Where do you live? I really haven't shoveled too much this year. The last BIG snow we had was in January. I vote you build an igloo with the extra snow!
Becca and Barbie- Happy to hear that the hubbies are recovering well!
Joyce- I am so sorry for your pain! Your hand issues sound just awful! Do they (the doctors) know what is causing it?
NY Karen- I hope you know that as much as you look to learn from the young teachers; I am positive they look to you to learn how to "go the distance" in the education field. When you think of all of the changes in the classroom/teaching in the last 20-30-40 years, the fact that you are still teaching speaks very well of you!
Rori- Love, love LOVE the coaster photo of you! I bet, I would be hard pressed to find any one not impressed by your joie de vivre! You have a great spirit!
Well, kids will be here soon and I have to get my yoga in...ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

When I arrived at work this morning, there was a survey for employees aged 50 and up.
I think it was meant to be a "how can we make the workplace a better place for those of you who are 50+" kind of thing, but unfortunately it didn't come across that way at all.
I can sum up all the questions with ... "how can we encourage you to retire already and really, why are you still here"
My husband figures that some 20-something work experience student in HR was told to create a survey, and that was the result.
For example, one of the questions actually asked if I was willing to take a part-time job at a lower band level because of my age!!! That was one choice of several. In my last few years on this side of retirement, would I be willing to ... shift to a part time position, or be interested in job sharing, or be interested in going to a low paying part-time position, or be interested in teaching some bright young thing how to do my job and then job share with that person .... things like that!
And why are us ancient, one-foot-in-the-grave folk even coming to work? Again, select all that apply. Is it because we want the social interaction, or is it because we just want to keep ourselves busy once in a while, or is there some faint feeling of accomplishment or something, or is it because we need the cash.
There were about 30 questions like that with words like "winding up our employment", "easing out of the work world" etc., and then a comment section at the end. I (politely) gave them a bit of a blast and pointed out that those of us at 51 years old probably have 16-20 years of employment left. We're still climbing the ladder! We want education and experience opportunities that could put us into higher band level positions with better pay.
I just hope my comments give someone something to think about. A bit of a shift in the obvious preconceived ideas conveyed in the survey.
If the survey had been directed to people in their mid-60s who can actually access their super and the gov't pension, it might have been different, but it'll be a good 12 or 13 years before I can even look into getting ahold of all that so that I can potentially retire! Sure ... I'd like to go now and keep buying those lottery tickets but ...
Anyway, meanwhile, since I don't have one foot in grave, I will continue to work, attend uni, cycle, and enjoy life! If I've inherited my grandmother's genes, I could have a long, long way to go.

Machka - I don't blame you for your reaction and I think it's right on. Folks in their 50's are often coming into their prime!
I was happy to be working part-time and easing out of the workplace when I turned 60, but that was more of a function of not liking some aspects of the job and stressful co-workers than just wanting to ease into retirement.
The only thing I can think of is there's some long range staffing planning going on so they are trying to figure out what to do with all the folks who need jobs in the next 10-20 years. HHmm.... maybe the earlier they can get people to cut back to part time or retire, they less they'll have to pay in retirement benefits as well?
Hard to say. I'm glad you gave them some comments.
