Good afternoon - I had a nice long post ready and it went poof from the laptop. GGRR. OK, I'll summarize:

Becca - sounds like Lee is doing well! Is he up to making any off-color remarks to you yet?

Any target for when he'll be released? Sorry about your disappointing sister! (((HUGS))))

Barbie - I'm sure it's a wise decision to leave the kids at the babysitter's an extra day or so. Everyone will be feeling more rested and it will be a joyous reunion!

Our local library has "Run Like a Girl" and also several books by Dr. Gregor who Wendy mentioned: I ordered them.

Katla - sorry you weren't able to do the lunch today - you'll have to let us know how it is when you do make it there. And sorry Arrow was a bugger! Is there another horse with a nicer disposition there you could work with and make him sorry he was a handful? LOL. I don't know if horses get jealous like dogs do.

Vicki in Omaha - are they making plans to soon replace the gal that was let go? I don't blame you for not taking the retirement "deal". Having insurance is the main reason I stuck it out at my job as long as I did and the COBRA would have been horrendous as well.

Heather - glad the party turned out good and Bea liked her gifts. Your tall husband is very nice - and you are a supermodel in your sparkly shirt. Did you take any time to drive by the new house? I'd be thinking of excuses to go by there on a regular basis and "mentally move in", LOL.

When I started on the desensitisation program for Dust Mites, it seems to me I was going every day for the first week or two, then down to twice a week for a few weeks, and then we settled in at once a week. I did once a week for a year, then was moved to once a fortnight for about 8 months or so. Then it was once a month for about 8 months or so. Then it stretched out to about once every 6 weeks for the last few months of the 3-year program ... and then the last time I went it, that was it. I'm done!

I had to take two different antihistamines before each shot. I used Claritin and Telfast. My Dr would always ask before she gave me the shots. I also usually took an IBUProfen too.

The whole dust mite thing had really flared up when we returned from our Round-the-World trip. We had put everything into storage for the 8 months, then when we settled, we moved into an old house, which probably had some dust mite issues itself, and got our stuff out of storage, which really set things off! 6 months later we put everything back into storage and moved to Tasmania, which triggered some allergy issues with the different plants etc. ... and about a year later we got our stuff out of storage again, and set the whole allergy thing off again.

I was on nasal sprays and things for a few years but knew I had to get off of them. I've been nasal spray-free for a year now!!

And I usually only take an antihistamine before bed now.

Keep up with the program, and eventually, it should help.

Sue, thanks for the wise words about pain meds. Jake is taking tylenol and the muscle relaxer, groaning a lot, and getting up and walking a bit every hour or two.

Becca, good news about Lee's progress. No more tubes will make him feel a lot more frisky. Sorry about your sister letting you down. Today Jake's daughter called and talked only about herself and never asked how he was doing after his surgery.

Katla, sorry that your date with Arrow and lunch date with DH didn't turn out the way you wanted.

Things keep getting better. Missing the pets but glad to have less to worry about.

We got a lot of yardwork done, picked up tons of twigs & branches and some leaves that were missed last fall. Then mow/mulched the rest of the debris on the lawn. It looks pretty good. I'm tired.

Becca, so glad tunes are out. They can be so cumbersome to carry around. I can't imagine the pull they may have on the skin beyond with the patient. If it were me, I wouldn't be satisfied with my sister being an hour away and her not coming to the hospital. Your husband had a very serious operation and your sister wasn't there. But it is your sister and not mine.

Speaking of my sister, she talked to me Friday and said her tablet wasn't working. She couldn't get it to turn on at all. Poor woman, she said she couldn't get her daily devotion. This woman has umpteen Bibles and other devotion books but she couldn't get it online. She has the same tablet as Michelle and depends on her a lot when she has any problem. Norma is quite technology challenged and gets into some situations with the tablet. I think it's a Samsung so it's a good tablet. So Michelle went over there and she didn't have the wifi turned on. She also helped her clear her cache which really needed to be done. Norma think Michelle is a really special girl so I love seeing them together. Everyone loves Christina and thinks she is special but Michelle was kind of the black sheep of the family. She is the one who was the protester or person who if I said jump, she said no. Norma's daughter Jenny and my daughter grew up, found their husbands and are in their way to their happy ever after life. Michelle, grew up, found a man that was kind of iffy, came with a lot of baggage. They got married, he went into the National Guard, served 2 terms that Michelle was unhappy about. She agreed to one. He wanted to go for another but then that is when the extra women came into his life. Her divorce was really hard on her. So now she is the single woman who now has a mortgage on a house that is about 75 years old and needs much help but she doesn't have the money at all.

Tomorrow Michelle and I are going to a Cat Cafe! It's a meat and cheese tasting that one of the lDies from the rescue that Michelle and I have got our animals from. Both of us hold Another chance for animals very close to our hearts and participate in all of their fund raisers. I just don't know what this tasting will lead to. I just want to experience the cat cafe! It is run by our local humane society. After you eat, you are welcome to spend as much time in the enclosed cat room as you want. I just hope there are kittens. It didn't make Charlie happy. He holds his supper times sacred and the weekends are the only time he gets to see Michelle. He still has not let her totally go. He needs to take care of her and make sure she is ok, her car is OK, her work is ok, I know it's ok to not let your kids go, I still love them dearly but he clings a little harder than I do.

My sister is on Tramadol and dose well with it. She has fibromyalgia. It is just one of her many meds for it.

When I was an RN and was workng on just a surgical unit, we had the president, like the CEO of the hospital as a patient. He was having his hemmoirhoids taken off. His maIn concern was having that first bowel movement. He was afraid that it would hurt so he took a lot of his pain medicine. Well, he didn't need to be concerned. Out sitting on that commode and having that first bowel movement. He was so constipated, he and to be taken to surgery and having it surgically removed. So pain medicine helps but you have to take it, maybe in moderation but you have to take it.

In those early years of nursing, it was mainly surgical. We were a surgical unit for the surgical treatment of cancer. But if there was a bed needed for a general surgical patient, we got those to. So passing gas was very important. We always listened for bowel sounds and asked them about if they passed any gas. I told my patients that passing gas was music to my ears. So occasionally I would go down the hall and hear quite the symphony and just smile.

Hi Gals,

Thinking of you all, and feeling like a bad girl friend, but I think of you often and talk about you all too…
I read the last couple of pages and welcome to all; Becca and Barbie – take care of the DHs and yourselves as well.

My busy life has just taken a turn to be busier… so how I’ll ever get here to visit is really becoming a mystery.

A tiny back story, I am an adult domestic violence survivor, my abuser was my adult brother. 2 different times, I pressed charges the 2nd time and he was jailed. I did a boat load of counseling, made a bunch of changes that kept me safe. This all was about 15 ish years ago. My brother (Todd) has a son my DN (darling nephew) they both live at my mothers, DN has been raised by my Mom, they moved in when he was 4, he’s 19 now, my brother is a freeloader – (drugs, alcohol, and anger management issues).

About 9-12 months ago Todd was diagnosed with colon cancer, he did a round of chem some type of targeted thing, had a 3 month check and last week his 6 month check, this included a couple of different MRIs and a colonoscopy and the cancer has spread and is in all parts of his body, he has been given 6-9 months to live. The doctors say that comfort care is the best option.

Of course both my mom and my DN are devastated, and I am really concerned about them, and am enough of a softy to not want anyone to suffer, but still have very mixed feelings about my brother.

They are 45 min drive each way (except during rush hour where it can take 1-2 hours) and I will be making the drive more often. Good thoughts for strength and patience would be appreciated.

Other than that this is a good reminder to be diligent about my diet, uping the veggies and fiber, and while I have been holding my own, another 10 lbs gone would be a good idea. So I am working on it made soup for dinner tonight.

Today, St. Patty’s Day is Levi’s adoption day so he has lived with me 5 years today, and is 6.5 years old… some pictures attached.

Barbie: Totally can appreciate your position about bringing back the fur-babies when Jake is still so needy. It's a huge respite for me when Mars is at the PetSmart hotel, and I always try to extend his stay by a day or two if only to give DH and me some extra sleep. I'm grateful to have a cat that takes car travel and boarding so well. The hotel staff love him to pieces, and he eats up the attention. So, we all win. Hope Jake continues to improve and life returns to normal soon.

Kim: ((hugs)) and prayers heading your way. I hope you can find alternative ways to be supportive to your mom and DN, and somehow find balance by off-loading some of your other responsibilities elsewhere.

Today we had the painters start in my office. I had to change painters when my first choice wound up in the hospital at the last minute. Painter #2 showed up 90 minutes late and never called, so DH was completely distraught. I think part of what he was feeling was also resentment that I won't allow him to paint anymore. It used to be one of his best skills. Now, with the way he is easily confused and also has an essential tremor that makes even pouring a glass of water a challenge...no way, Jose.

I have developed red 'freckles' on both legs from my knees to my ankles. They aren't bumps, and nothing itches. Wondering if it's a reaction to the hot springs or a new soap.... I read online it can be caused by exercise, too.

Here is Mars enjoying the empty bookshelves before they are painted. Once the room is done, I think I'll keep these open for him to use as a hangout.

Rori, are you on any meds that discourage overexposure to sunshine? I am and what you describe sounds kind of what happens to me, especially when the weather first starts getting nice. It seems to settle down after a few weeks. Or it could be a reaction to the springs..... Mars is very sweet looking and seems to really like his new perch!

I have just started tonight (again) with the fitness and food tracker that worked well for me a few years ago. Never have done the discussions. My goal for March is to bring better organization into many parts of my life and do exert self-control over eating and exercising. trying to have more insight into myself and habits - or lack of. I realize that 4 pm is worst time. Physical pain weakens my resolve. I do binge. Going to try to suffer gladly. Hoping that everyone has success going into Spring and new beginnings.

Specific Health Goals for the rest of March:
-enter all food
-exercise even a small bit daily
-lose 4 pounds
-love myself
-get more sleep
-take all prescribed meds

Don't know why, but haven't meditated for a week. That means no knee exercises, SWSY or mat work either. And a couple of days over calorie limits. On the good side, everything and I mean EVERYTHING was logged. Tumble and I made it to Dog Group every day that weather permitted. I can see tiny improvements, but as soon as I get distracted her fear barking returns. Good for me, the key is to keep her moving

Moving, ah now there's the rub. When I worked, if I walked at lunch I could easily make 10K steps a day. After retirement, that plummeted to an average of 2K, with 4K being a good day. So starting where I am, going to start logging steps too, planning for April goal of improving from remainder of March's average.

Joe had to keep re-shoveling a path for the pooches to use. Snow got so high all you could see of them were the tips of their tails. Down 1.8 lbs? Hooray!!!

Ladies, I know I have been a little MIA lately so just popping back in at pg 54. I had some other comments but they are from so long ago that they probably wouldn't have made sense. Here goes.

Betty - Sending you hugs, positive vibes and prayers. Sorry that you are having such a rough go of it.

Barbie- I'm glad that Jake's surgery went well.

Becca - I'm glad that Lee was able to take a short walk.

Sue- It takes me about a week to adjust after the time change. I could easily do without it.

Lisa - My Mom used to do that with soap also. I've been known to do it myself. I am allergic to all soap except for white unscented Dove. Larry sometimes puts shaved Irish Spring in the old cars to keep out rodents.
Your little Sweetie is so cute in that birthday photo. Isn't 3 such a great age?

Kim - I am so sorry that you went through that. I do think I remember you mentioning it before. You are a good person to put everything aside and support your Mom and your nephew through this. It has to be so difficult for you. Praying strength and patience for you. I am also adding in health and happiness.

Been busy with forms, more forms, medical appointments, etc. Medical EI is in place for 15 weeks. I hope in that time I will have something else in place to carry me through this next year.

I've also been busy getting my "organized" husband's paper work in order for our accountant. He said something about how he thought I would be all done by now and how if I had kept at it over the last year it would all be in order. All true but not sure how this became my job. I have a T4 that's it. I should be all done in the next day or two unless I find another pile in another place. GRRRR

It sounds as if we are going to spend Easter in Vancouver. Jason mentioned that maybe he and Harmony could travel with us as he has a week off. Larry told me later that he could travel with them but didn't want to be stuck in the car with Kim for that long. Me neither!
Hopefully she gets a job and has to work.

Today I was Granny's taxi for Keira. Had to pick her and Greysyn up from the Fishing conclave where Ryan was the MC. We went and picked up the birthday present. It took a little long because once word was out that I was in the store they came looking for me. Hugs and well wishes, etc. Nice to know that I am still well thought of . Everything took too long for Greysyn. We had a bit of an argument in the car. He is having a tough time this past year and maybe this Grandma should be a little softer with him. We made up and he gave me a hug when I left his house. I am glad that Jheri is getting him some help so he can have tools to deal with issues as they come up. God! I love that boy! I love all my grandkids but he was always my buddy.

It stopped snowing early this morning. I hope this is the last of it. I read about people who have flowers blooming and starting plants, etc. I know that there will be none of that here until sometime in May. Probably the long weekend which is May 21?

Barbara - That would be Haley - she's become quite attached to her "Paw," as has her brother, and it's going to be tough on both of them when we leave. I spend 12 to 13 hours a day upstairs during the week, so the attachment hasn't been quite as strong, and I'm grateful (at one level). It's going to be hard enough to drive cross-country when we leave without crying the whole way!

Heather - Your birthday cutie is always a pleasure to see... and the two older ones, as well. There is always an annoying cousin, isn't there?

You and the DH look wonderful. Love your blingy shirt!

Kim - So good to see you pop in. Your ability to love your family through it all is an amazing testament to who you are as a person. We'll be here.

Sharon - good to see you, too! Hope that there is a positive resolution with the bureaucracy's decision-makers. Always a frustrating task, no matter which government. We got our first truly beautiful days of spring the last few days, and it was such a pleasure. Seems like a long winter here.

Rori - Left a message for you in a reply to our last exchange, different subject, but would sure appreciate your input. No pressure, though, plenty of time and thought process in front of me.

Becca and Barbie - Your patience is enormous. I stink at playing nurse to my husband, possibly one of the reasons I ended up in quite a different field, professionally!

Work is going well... weight was up this morning, but I'm inching up on Onederland, so figured it will be a sticking point. One thing that's helping me keep perspective is a graph I built on the difference in my weight from one week to the next, and the cycle is clear. I'm on an upswing, but it will, on the whole, drive back down, as long as I stick to the plan. It's reassuring--hard to watch that stupid scale go up when you know you've been doing the right things, but the body has its own rhythms. Numbers can both devastate and reassure when you know how to look at them! This is the graph I was talking about - it's the 7-day difference number, between the day's weight and the weight one week prior. Very clear cycles....

Doing some research this early morning while the world is quiet.

Sunday -- we've had a wild and woolly Sunday!! At one point earlier in the day, the wind was gusting up to 102 km/h. We waited till the rain and wind had died off before we headed out for a bicycle ride, so we were only dealing with winds of 28 gusting to 57 km/h, and the temp was about 15C.

Aside from the bicycle ride, I've spent the day trying to get on top of things ... laundry, organising things for upcoming cycling events, cleaning the bathroom, dishes and kitchen, and trying to make some headway through the pile of paper that seems to grow and grow next to and onto my table. It had finally reached the point where it was about to topple.

Oh and my husband and I moved the Christmas decorations into storage in the basement. I had taken them all down and put them into the bin and box, but

If the day had been nice, we would have been out cycling all day. So sometimes it's all right to have a rainy, windy day so that we finally have a day to do these other things.

And at least I can sit with a hot water bottle on my back as I go through all these papers! I've taken a break once already to stretch my hamstrings and back, and will again a little later.

Morning Ladies~
I was woken up by Alfie batting my face with a toy to wake me up
so I am up dressed and having my tea... Sean God Bless Him was up at my dads for 6-7 hrs going through stuff with the picker guy , made 705.00 out of that.. we are trying to drum as much money up as we can to get the probate attorney retainer. I got my income taxes back and really dont want to have to use any of my reserve to put towards it but if I have to I will..
was invited by my dear friend Bev to go to her house and have a little bit of nibbles and my next door neighbor who lives next door to Tom will be coming also, think I told you she lost her husband last year and he was my age
we are going to a harp concert at one of the local churches , it is always nice to do something fun like that with girlfriends
dropped Toms proposal off at my attorneys office, will have her look it over, but she is holding out. she supeonaed(sp) his place of employment for pension , and they have it out of state and said they didnt have enough time to get it together so instead of tomorrow going to court ,it will be next monday.. for that and more money for my attorney

. Tom wants answers now that I cant give him so he will have to wait.

Lisa Such a sweet birthday girl! ...I like your weekly weight graph. I might start doing that, too! ...I'm not such a great nurse for my partner either. She thinks I am, but I'm not. She is a MUCH better nurse. I am an impatient caretaker. She got better from her shoulder injury in record time because I wouldn't baby her, and totally stunned her shoulder surgeon & physical therapist with her remarkably fast recovery, LOL! I'm such a meanie.

Barbara, Southern Oregon I really enjoy reading your posts. Are you a writer/editor like Lisa, Heather, and Penny? Prepping for the housecleaner consists of putting the throw rugs in the wash, stripping the beds & stacking clean sheets on the mattresses, sorting through mail & clearing clutter off the surfaces, putting the Instant Pot & other large appliances in the garage storage, picking up piddle pads (we have a 1 year old Yorkie whose bladder is still growing up), & moving the dog steps, dog toys, water/food bowls, etc. off the floors. Clutter mostly, stuff sitting on the surfaces we want her to clean. So yes, I guess I am that person, LOL!

Two common causes of red freckles are cherry angiomas, which are domes, & petechiae, which are flat. Petechiae (flat, red, non-blanching, non-itchy freckles) can certainly be caused by exercise or hot water, especially if you are taking aspirin.

Rori, Here is Bernie at the top of the climbing pole in his three level kitty condo at The Cat's Pajamas. He is fine being boarded there. He has been there often and they love him. During Jake's recovery time I have thought of you and the care you are taking of your husband. Jake is frustrated about not being able to do things and hates to ask me to do anything. Lanette we are required to keep 2 epipens and a bottle of liquid Benedryl on hand to deal with sever reactions if they happen. We have to bring them to appointment for next bottle so nurse can check expiration dates. So far so good! I keep benedryl pulls on hand for really bad allergy days. But only take one because they knock me out!

Machka in OZ I went through the allergy shots when I lived in TN for 4 years. They did help a lot then. But my move to CT brought on new ones and now to NM (southwest travels) have triggered new ones. When tested my old allergies showed up but not nearly as bad as first time. Strong smells trigger congestion and sneezing too, like perfume or scented soap. I have very sensitive sinuses. I know the shots work. Just must be patient and treat new allergies as they come up.

morning peeps

I still have the scooter, just in our mini garage since I ride now. the lady in the pic with me was an old spin class friend at the old gym, we kept in touch thru fb. she has cancer and I went to watch her do the 5k walk for st Pattys day. afterwards a bunch met somewhere and they put on a brunch, was a great time.

the scooter I will probably end up selling after retirement, will sell in California, probably will get more $$ over there. I am thinking about riding it for the last year that I'm here, maybe 2 days a week and ride bike the other 3 days. I dunno.

Back home. Snow still on the grass, but gone from the roads.
Very tired. Kids were great though. We played baby hospital, Playdough, Snap, BBC games, trains, and how many balloons you can carry in one go. Max went to swimming lessons. Played chess with DH and showed him his coding.
DS went out with DDIL to visit a running shop where they do a gait assessment and she bought him running shoes. He's going to give it a go. I hope it helps him with giving up alcohol. He needs a new focus.
We had fish and chips for lunch. I had only a few chips and took the batter off the fish. Mushy peas and a pickled onion.

Glad to be home and in the quiet. Lanette - we didn't look at the house because it's not absolutely definite yet. We are going to ring the agents tomorrow to check on the vendors progress.

Quick note again while I relax a bit between grading finals.

My problem accessing the thread has disappeared now. Turns out it was caused by (=was thanks to!) my virus protection software. Apparently one of the posts on this thread had some malware in it somewhere, probably either a link or a picture. Now that my #latest link goes straight to another page it's no longer a problem.

We've got a marvelous winter storm here today. Gale force winds and dry snow blowing around everywhere. It's been great for those of us who could stay indoors; not equally great for others. The flight scheduled to leave at 7:50 this morning finally managed to take off at 1:50. I feel sorry for those poor people who had to sit at the airport for six hours. Once they've passed security there's no going back unless the flight is cancelled, which it wasn't. There's only one gate and only one little shop with an extremely limited supply of edibles - hot dogs and a couple kinds of sandwiches. Plus candy of course.

Last night, when the weather was still clear, we had spectacular northern lights. Bright green shimmering curtains flapping across the sky. Probably the best I've seen up here, though I've seen considerably better 1000 km south, in northern Norway.

Remember back in September or so, when I was at our island paradise, harvesting potatos and black currants? I'd made so much strawberry and black currant jam that I'd run out of jars and still had a couple kilos of overripe black currants I didn't know what to do with. Somebody (Katla? One of the Karens?) suggested that I make them into crème de cassis. We happened to have a bottle of vodka (a gift from a Polish friend) which we'd never opened because, heck! We don't drink vodka! So I put the berries in a 5-liter flask, poured the vodka over it, then left it and went home to Svalbard.

A couple months later, the next time I was there, I strained off the liquid. But I didn't have anything to put it in, so it went back into the 5-liter flask. (I couldn't bring myself to discard the berries, so I mashed them through a sieve and turned them into a highly alcoholic mush to put on ice cream. Yummo!) Sometime in January, we were going out to the island again for a couple days and I remembered to take along an empty bottle. After checking some recipes online, I boiled up a strong sugar solution to adjust the sweetness of the tincture. But when I tasted it, it was sweet enough already! Fresh, fruity deliciousness with no added sugar. Now I'll know what to do next time I have more black currants than I can handle.

well i have been running all morning, went and fed DFIL and worried about my sons snake.. yup he has a red tailed boa we got him when he was 10 ,so that makes the snake 23 yrs old.. with the heat turned way down even with his heating pad think he was to cold.. so I went to tractor supply and got a heat lamp, and here is hoping that perks him up a bit..
then unloaded my car that has been amassed with stuff since my dad passed and got it in the correct spots, re arranged my storage space so that summer things will be ready to go, have a table and seating for 6 with an umbrella and stand, have a fountain,the 2 rockers and table for the other corner of my patio and my lovely healing windchimes... saw something on facebook that you could hang a teapot to be used as a birdhouse so near the end of the month will hang that our for my feathered friends..laundry in the dryer now, and will hop in the shower in a bit before going to friends house...
