Here. Getting ready to go on a mini vacation to visit my husband's family. I am looking forward to being away from work for a few days.
I signed up for another training event at the gym I belong to. I know. I know. I said I wouldn't, but I am hoping this one will be a little different -- more freedom for when I work out and train than the other one was.
I'm trying to log my food again. I've gotten out of the habit. Fortunately, I haven't gained a lot of weight from when I was logging, but I'm not losing either, so there's that.
Does anyone else fill like your life is really messy? I think that must be my word for the year. Sometimes the mess of it all makes me so stressed, and then I just try to breathe, and release it all. I can't control anyone but myself. Like Becca has been saying, it doesn't do any good to have any expectations for people. I just feel like when I live with those people, I am entitled to a few expectations regarding behavior.

Karen thank you. Like you I prefer mine minus the snow.LOL
Painting class today. I made a nest painting to go with my cardinal painting. There are at least hints of spring. I remember the *kitten* willow in our yard growing up.
They changed the word to kitten. The need to be politically correct.

Heather: You are in a challenging moment with your sons and your memoir. I think they might react with sadness, surprise or some other strong emotion, but chances are good that they will understand you and some of their childhood years better after reading it. The book may be a possible vehicle for healing for them and for you, and may help everyone understand one another better. I know that your DDIL has some concerns for her husband because he's having problems of his own just now. What does your DH think? I think he is a smart and sensitive man who might have valuable ideas to help you clarify what to do. Timing of a discussion may be an important consideration.
I have a question for those of you with dogs. What flea control products do you use? Our dog is currently flea free, but the season is warming and I think there will be a need to do something in the near future.

Rye - so glad Kidd Kirby is doing better. What a good buddy for you! Can't wait to hear more details on the BB42. You have come a long way and your success story regarding weight loss and fitness is stellar!!
Wendy - good for you kicking the sugar cravings. I think you've got the right idea - focusing on the good stuff you can eat that you enjoy instead of being depressed because sugar is off the table.
Becca - great idea getting your sis off Messenger and Facebook. You are right - she can phone you if she feels so moved.
Karen in VA - great tarp idea! I don't think there's a dirt pile or twig pile around here (and there are plenty) where DH didn't use a tarp as the base. Easy for him to drag it around even if he needs to use the tractor.
Lenora - that is icky about food poisoning. Hope you and Louis feel better soon! We need you healthy and healed up for the summer!
Terry - that haircut is perfect for you, your hair looks great - are you still wearing that helmet? Also, do not despair temporary weight gain - your face looks very thin - keep in mind the camera puts on weight. You are approaching Supermodel status in my book! Hope that orthotic does the trick for you!!
For sure when the teleporter gets out of the shop I want to visit Wendy and Machka and walk your respective beaches with you. LOVELY!
Before I forget - UK and BBC ladies - I am getting hooked on VERA! The first season/couple episodes I wasn't so sure but each season gets better. Joe is a doll. Being based on Ann Cleeves books, no wonder they are fabulous. She's one of my favorite British authors.
I picked up Running Like a Girl from the library today, looks very good.
Stopped by the doc's office for Allergy shot and had the doc freeze one of the moles on my back that is constantly being rubbed by my bra strap. She said it might take a couple tries. It's a little "touchy" this afternoon but I can ignore it easily enough.
That's the latest. Love all of the snow photo's.... those of you "enjoying" (not) it today, think of how refreshing it will be to look at those photos this August when it's 95 out. Bad thing is...you won't be able to take any snow days then!

Oh Margaret, I'm delighted about the *kitten*willow, not so much because of the MFP censorship that changes all of the dirty words like "pu[zz]y" to *kitten*, but rather because of an experience the first winter after I moved to the far north. It was, like, late April, when those of us who grew up in temperate climate expect spring to be well on the way. My husband and I went out skiing and met local women on skis with "bouquets" in their hands. They hadn't picked flowers as such, but rather signs of spring, pussywillows, that they would take home and display PROUDLY on their dining room tables.
Margaret, I know that you and I share some basic facts of life, like the smells at the Como Park Zoo. (There's a lot of scientific evidence for why smells are important to us!) I don't think I'll ever get back to Minneapolis. Maybe that's part of the reason I always feel so strongly the tug of old times when you post pics from the Como Park Conservatory. Half a century, and I can still smell the cool, moist air in the seasonal wing.

Heather, I'm late to the party and (what's worse) I guess I'm a party pooper but I'm not particularly enamored of the new title for your book. To me, it feels o-o-overly lo-o-o-ong. (That said, you should probably take that with a grain of salt. In my scientific writing courses, I'm infamous for my preference for short, snappy titles.) But maybe you could use it without the last sentence fragment "Innocence abused"? If you let readers discover the abuse for themselves it might have greater impact.
I really liked your first working title "A very nice man". When you started writing, were you more focused on the dichotomy between what people thought of your father and what you yourself perceived? I think that's an important topic to drag out into the open, and your working title did that! Still, I respect your (wise, thoughtful) DH's assessment of the book you've actually written. He has seen it, and I haven't.
It also seems you're struggling with how and when to inform your sons about your past. Both of them appear to be at critical crossroads in their lives, which can't make it any easier for you! At the same time, your DDIL is offering advice — and she seems to know more about your past than they do. (Or am I misunderstanding?)
I have no advice myself, but I'm rooting for you every step of the way.

Lanette, thanks for the kind words. I’m still wearing the helmet every other day for 25 min each day. Not supposed to see any improvement for 6 months (that’s if it works).
Allie, hope you get some sleep tonight.
Margaret, I think I like the nest even better than the bird and I really liked the bird. So talented.
Stopped on the way home at Barnes and Nobles to pick up a book for DH’s birthday today. It was called Word by Word and was about how words get into the dictionary. I heard about it on NPR. It would bore me to tears but DH was thrilled with it. We have such different tastes in food and books. Well opposites attract right. He also loved the green bean pie. I really went low on my calories today so that I could have some. I bought one piece of carrot cake and we split it. Not sure how many calories I had today but feel if I did go over it couldn’t have been by a lot.
Well signing off for today ladies.

This morning I walked the dogs for 45 minutes, ate breakfast, walked the dogs again for 90 minutes, then went to line dance class. When I got home from class, I walked the dogs again for a few minutes, fixed lunch, changed the sheets on both beds, washed the lunch dishes and had a huge "sinking spell" feeling like I could do nothing more. Then I remembered our after lunch nap. Two hours later I was a new woman ready to walk the dogs again, clean the bathrooms, and ride the exercise bike while watching a movie with Jake. Naps are a great solution to a great deal of what ails me.

Heather for myself learning about the family members struggles has helped me understand where some of my own issues originate. If you approach your sons that this is your story that you were ready and needed to tell. It has the possibility to open up communication with your sons if they are open to it. If it is going to be published I would tell them about it before hand so they feel they are part of the loop. I liked the title A Nice Man too. Your story does remind me of the masks used to represent drama. The happy and the sad. Your dad had a mask he presented to the world that covered up how badly he hurt you. Your story rips off the mask and becomes a tale of recovery and hope. I am a firm believer the first step towards healing is to acknowledge the truth.7

I don't know how many pages I have read. I didn't come here yesterday somi had 2 says of reading and you guys chat a lot.
Charlie, I admire you so much. I was an RN, I tried too be a hospice volunteer, the training was wonderful but I never had a satisfactory client and I stopped. During training, we heard these tear jerking stories of volunteer + client that was so close and womderful. My Mom died in an inpatient hospice and the nurses helped so much. In fact they made this RN of 30'years change her philosophy of nursing. But I didn't have many years left to work and my new found philosophy in nursing just didn't work in cardiac nursing. So I had a crisis in what a nurse was. But when I retired, I was very proud of my years as an RN. My brother was a chaplain in an inpatient Hospice.
The reason I wasn't here yesterday was increased pain in my finger and thumb but also my lip and cheek. So last night I took an extra Lyrica. It really really helped. When my alarm rang at 6 AM, I felt really good and also when I got up. But as the day has be on and me touching things, it hurts about as much as it did last night. But I also have felt like I was half here, really sleepy, if I turn my head to quickly when I a, walking I almost run into something. I know if I am going to increase the dose, my body has to get used to it and all of this weird feeling will go away. But, with my prescription for 4 a day, insurance won't pay for more than 3 a day, so the pharmacist is going to contact my Dr to change the dosage from 75mg to 100mg. So I don't know how 100mg is goin to make me feel. I just know I have had a brief time of fAirly pain free and now it is gone.

I watched about 15 minutes of that show when it first started ... and vowed: "Never Again"!!!!".
I don't mind murder mystery types of shows, but that one took it to a horrific level I couldn't deal with ... and really, I simply did not need those kinds of thoughts in my head.
Over the years I stopped watching most American crime drama TV shows for the same reason ... they seemed to me to keep pushing the limits on horrible things one human could do to another, and showing it much too graphically.

By the time I finish reading, I am out of time.
Katla- my DSIL rented a small plane to disperse his dad’s ashes and when they opened the side window to let the ashes out, the wind blew them back into the plane. Not exactly what they had planned.
Tomowwow I will take a picture of the entrance to our neighborhood. It is beautiful.
Got to go. Welcome to all the newbies.
