Want to commit to dry May
17 -
My goal for May is I will not drink alone, social occasions only18

I know I've been quiet for a couple of weeks, but I am for sure in for May. I need to get back to at least moderation and keeping it to the weekends.12
-
I am going for a dry May.11
-
I am just starting and I am planning on a dry March also.9

Back in for May. The slippery slope definitely was in effect for me in April. This month I’m committing to really working on not drinking anything except for an occasional date night. Thanks to this thread for keeping me honest!13

Hello everyone.
I'll be experimenting with moderation for May. I'd been practicing in April. Except for 1 night I had no more than 1 drink on weeknights and no more than 2 on the weekends. I'd like to keep it up for May. Look forward to getting to know everyone better as we tackle the month together.12 -

(Waves Vigorously!). Hi, and welcome friend! You’ll love the group.

I have been rockin' that sober life since 2-18-18 currently, and will commit to continuing through May.21

My May goals:
1. Continue to practice Mindful Moderation
2. Stay away from the slippery slope of consecutive drinks and consecutive days drinking, even in moderate amounts, what I’m calling Mindless Moderation.
3. More total days alcohol free than drinking - that hasn’t happened since February. March and April both had weeks with vacation and work trips that I didn’t adhere to my plan of abstaining during the week and only drinking on weekends.
Good luck to all and welcome to new members!17 -
Still in! Goal is AF M-Th and the equivalent of 1 bottle of wine (total) F-Sun. I went 1 drink over last week on my AF goal and 1 drink over on my weekend goal. (the weather has just been so darn beautiful!)
One thing that I noticed was that I really thought about it before I did it. I asked myself, "Do I really want a glass of wine?" "Are you sure you want a 2nd (or 3rd) glass?" Most of the time my answer was, "Nope. I'm good." A few times it was, "yes", BUT no more mindless pouring. Looking forward to a week of good sleep and clear thoughts. Happy Monday and warm energy sent out to all!10 -

Yep! That’s exactly what I’ve been practicing too!5 -
I'm in. Today is Day 8. @Leeg5656 and @WinoGelato, your plan sounds great. I wish I could do something similar, but I've learned I simply can't. The "Nope I'm good" response just isn't going to happen for me.
I'm not even going to say I'll have a dry May. I'm just going to continue AF and see where it goes. Happy May!11 -

Yes, this is me right now. I'm good at stopping due to external reasons (I don't have calories left, I don't want to be the only tipsy person at the party, I'm not drinking because I have to drive, etc), but if the question is just "Do you want another drink?" I feel as if my internal answer is always going to be "yes."9 -
Hi. I’d love to be a part of this group for May. I’ve been able to show restraint in the past but along comes a new life stressor and I’m right back to mindless pouring. Hope to find balance on day and maybe this is it. Logging everything helps keep me aware of patterns. Good luck to all of you finding balance with behavior and forgiveness to oneself when it doesn’t go as planned.11

Not drinking alone9

Hi, I’m in! I like @WinoGelato’s plan of Mindful Moderation. My goal is AF Sunday-Thursday and making deliberate choices on Friday and Saturday. Trying to break behavior patterns are challenging, so glad to have this group because it’s nice to have like minded folks to learn from.10

I work 12 hour shifts at a hospital and have to be "on call" on those nights that I work. Unfortunately in the past I've told myself 1 glass of wine or 1 beer even though I'm on call won't hurt anything. So my goal is to be AF on nights when I'm on call or when I have to get up the next morning to go to work.
On the nights I do allow myself to drink I'll also be mindful of amount!
I do have a couple of social events this month, those I'll allow myself a little more wiggle room.
Good luck all!12 -
Back in! Working this month to do alcohol only on date nights with husband (that may sound weird but I have drinking buddies AND have no problem drinking alone). Husband and I have been going through a rocky time in our marriage, but are committed to working through it and that includes date nights. Look forward to the same positive outlook and nonjudgmental thread as I have found since January.11

I totally get where you are coming from. I think above all You have to know yourself and do what is right for You.
Some days I think that we should split this group into two different groups. One for Moderation and one for Abstinence, but I think both groups would miss the wisdom from the other group. We all have alot to offer in our thoughts and in our struggles. I have learned quite a bit from the people on this group who are trying for abstinence. It has made me double down on my Moderation and wonder if some day I might go for AF. ?? I don't know.6 -
I'm in. Would like to shift from 2-3 nights a month to nil for May and see how I feel. Thanks.11

I'm in for the whole month of May. I really need this.7

Mindless moderation!!! That’s me! I don’t struggle with drinking super excessively, I don’t have any problem stopping - it’s the mindless two glasses that I have! Good stuff in your post! I totally agree3 -
Continuing AF for May.6

I have 2 special occasions in May I may make an exception for but other than that I would like to have no drinking days.5

Hi everyone! My goal is to be totally dry until May 24 which is the first day after the 30 days of the alcohol experiment. It seems like a long way away but I know it will fly by. Then we will see if I even feel like having a drink. I may not. Thanks Julie for keeping the thread going. I can't believe how the year is cruising by.4

I've started a 50 day self care challenge for myself. One of the items I will be removing for May is alcohol. I drink on the weekend with friends and hubby. I enjoy having a good time. I really need to get fit though so I am taking 50 days to totally take care of me. I've never done this before. The totally taking care of me part.11

I am in! I didn't do too bad in April but want to do better in May.5

I've been pretty much drinking a bottle of wine every night for the last 4 years. The most I've gone is 2 nights of no alcohol. Every morning I regret it and try to recall what I binge ate after the bottle is gone and I go to bed. I'm disgusted with myself and the weight I have gained as a result. I'm joining this group for motivation and inspiration because I feel like I'm ready and need to change. I'm 43. widowed, mom to 3 kids22
