This is just so sad, that people you regard as friends can't be happy for you

Like this whole thread has stated, socializing is harder when you're making actively healthy choices. I feel like a snooty rhymes-with-witch when I'm going over to eat at a friend's, or going out for food, and I eat an obviously smaller portion than everyone else.
It doesn't help that some of my friends are bigger and make fun of people who eat a small amount and then are like, "Oh I'm so full." Like nobody can ever actually be full off a single serving and they're just showboating. Now I'm that person.
But it's not pretend! I actually am full! I literally cannot shove the amount of food into my face I used to, because it makes me feel literally sick!
That combined with the fact I also no longer drink alcohol (interacts poorly with a medication, and plus I just don't like feeling stupid and drunk) makes me feel like everyone thinks I'm judging their choices or that I think I'm better than them, when that couldn't be farther from the truth. I just do it for me... they can do whatever they want.24 -

I had no idea how hard it would be to find clothes at clearance sales. S, XXL, and XXXL, tons of stuff. Other sizes, not so much.10
-
That you may not change sizes. On my current journey, I'm down 30 lbs. and I'm still in the same size clothing i was 30 lbs ago. I do notice that things fit a bit differently to be sure, but I still can't get the next size down to button properly etc.

This. The number of times I've looked at clearance tables, or sale items to find the sizes I used to wear but can't find an M or L to save few bucks on. Ticks me off some days.8 -

This!!!
For long term success, taking the time to find or tailor a program that works best for your body cannot be stressed enough. Some people do well on low fat diets, some on low carb and some on high carb or high protein diets. Like GaleHawkins, my body reacts better to the elimination of refined flour and sugar products. I also feel fuller longer with an increase in protein, whereas high carb diets leave me constantly hungry. The key is finding what works best for your body.9 -

Before I never really noticed since they just blended in. I don't like that I notice this now. I am unsure if I am more often looking now when I did not before or why I am seeing it so much. I am not judging them. If anything it makes me sad because I know most are likely unhappy about it.
I have also learned that jealousy is really a mean beast. I have a friend who has been less than happy for me and my loss. Time to assess that friendship I tell yah!
This happens I think just because we become more thoughtful about health in general and where we used to be physically and mentally and we are realizing what we were like before the weight loss. I use to have a drink or milkshake in my hand when driving. Now when I see this most often it is an obese person like I was so I make the connection with one reason I was obese.
Listening to people talking about their health issues while eating a 2000 calorie meal makes me want to scream because that was me 4 years ago.
On a positive note I am taken back that some people are now asking questions about how much better I am walking and moving after cutting out added sweeteners and all forms of all grains. Some even use the terms low carb and keto and state they are trying it. In these cases I mention while it has worked well in my case to walk death backwards that they should work to find the best Way Of Eating for their own bodies and mention that can take a long time.
As far as jealousy goes I try to ignore it and thankful I tend to not notice it. Anyone that wants me to leave my family and future grandkids, ect due to a premature death their thoughts and actions just do not matter. At 67 I have the best health I can remember over the past 40 years and life just gets better and better quality wise. Last weekend I entered my first antique tractor show with a 52 year old tractor I have been working on since last year. Since it was nearby I actually drove it the tractor to the fairgrounds.
Now I decide how I want to feel and just lose the jealous ones mentally or physically if not both.
Best of continued success to all.
Great job on your loss! Your post made a lot of sense to me. Thanks.1 -

It really is. The "friend" in my case sort of (half as$ed) started with me and fell off the wagon very early on. So I think my sucesses are tough to see. That is what I am guessing anyway. I am trying to avoid her for now since I don't need the negativity.10 -

Even a small amount of weight lost improves your health...something I have heard before many times, but it manifested in me when I checked my BP and resting heart rate last night and it's drastically better than it has been in years.
I still have a lot of pounds left but that was a big motivational boost for me.24 -
just losing 40 pounds so far has taken me off BP meds! I'm now a steady 120/80 each time... amazing what a difference. Next to get off Lipitor for high cholesterol.25

I'm going to add my biggest surprise now that i am almost at goal. i'm shocked at myself that it is almost work to go shopping for clothes. i've donated all my clothes becasue they no longer fit, and i don't want large size clothes sitting in my closet ..becaause i'm never going back.
But now, every single thing needs replaced. it costs A LOT of money, and now i'm shopping for a new fashionable look. Before..i looked for anything dark and blousey so it would cover my weight. it has been so long that i've shopped with a different mindset. i also look at the plus size section and shiver..never wanting to go back. i want this shopping thing to be fun ...darnit!31 -

I found that after being very big for a lot of years I have no idea what style to go for or what suits me. I've gone from a 30 something career woman to a 60+ retiree. The styles I usd to wear are no longer available/appropriate and, aside from casual 'yachtie' fashion, I haven't got a clue. Not at my ideal weight yet but getting towards it and would like to look a bit more stylish (big boobs do not help)14 -

I'm glad you posted this. I'm far from goal but it's been on my mind a LOT. I have NO idea what to wear when I get there. Thin I was never into clothes but fat there is no choice but to only wear what fits whether you like it or not. I've been looking at sites like Macy's and nothing looks remotely interesting. I truly have no clue how I'm going to navigate those waters.......it makes me scared.12 -

This is what friends are for. I was scared of clothes shopping like a ‘normal’ person because I had no idea what shops had what styles, or which ones would be too expensive for my budget and full of snooty assistants, or what styles I could actually wear now that I didn’t have to avoid everything that might show belly bulge...
...so I booked an afternoon in town with a friend I trusted, to drag me around town and make me try on things I wouldn’t have thought of. It helped a lot13 -

Yes this is a great plan of attack.
I have my shopping companion picked out already too. And she has lost over 100 lbs herself in the past so she gets it. 8 lbs to go then my wallet wI'll also become lighter..21 -
I don't have any problems with "style" (if you can even call what I wear style) because my preference for clothes hasn't changed: T-shirts and jeans/joggers all the way. What I do have a problem with is that as I get thinner short sleeves keep getting shorter. I need to hunt high and low for T's with actual short sleeves because everything comes with pseudo sleeves now, or I have to settle for men's T's and be okay with the boxiness.8

I took a friend with me for my first major shopping spree. It was very helpful because we would look, we both picked stuff out and I tried on, then she just kept bringing more stuff. It was good because she had me try on stuff I would never have tried on. The body shape was so different that I needed that.5 -

The last time I was thin I was 30 and now I'm nearly 60 so I feel bewildered when shopping too. I take my daughter with me. She's 28 and will tell me honestly "No Mum, not age appropriate." or "Of course you can wear that! It looks great!". I bought a few new things and filled the rest of my wardrobe with thrift store finds. Otherwise you're right, its a pretty expensive outing to try and replace everything at one time.8 -

Goodwill has become my best friend, honestly. I wish I had a shopping buddy, but at least I’m not breaking the bank!4
