Go to youtube and look up "the truth about slim people 2017"2 -
I agree it's often other people's perception of the amount of food consumed, or what they consider "healthy" or "diet" foods. Rather than accepting it is about CI v CO.
I'm certainly not "skinny", nor aiming to be. But pleased with my weight loss success (52lb)and now a healthy (nearer top end) bmi. Throughout this "journey" I have focused on balancing macros, nutrition and allowing foods I love occasionally, while hitting my target calorie allowance. Also disabled so mainly lost weight through diet alone. Just starting maintenance and finding my "calorie" target balance.
I'm posting here as I've been following this debate and wanted to share a conversation I've had recently. I was enjoying a cream & jam scone, with an afternoon cup of tea. (Still weighing and logging my foods accurately). A friend dropped in, saw me relaxing in my garden, enjoying my treat, and I've listed our conversation below.
Her: I thought you were on a diet.
Me: I was, but I've hit my goal and I am maintaining for now.
Her: Eating foods like that you will soon regain all your weight and more. How much did you lose?
Me: Just over 50lb and I'm still tracking so that I will stay around my new healthy weight.
Her: Wow, how? Tell me your secret.
Me: No secret, just calorie counting, logging everything on mfp and trying to hit my targets. Not always successful but consistency and patience are rewarded. Working in foods I love as well as tracking my nutrition (needed for my health conditions).
Her: But your disabled and can't exercise and it's impossible to eat foods like this and lose weight.
Me: Its simple (If not always easy), as long as you burn more calories than you consume. It's calories that matter for weight loss. Over time, tracking on MFP gave me data to work out my targets.
Her: Are you sure? Come on and let me into your secret.
Me: No secret, just hard work and determination.
Her: Its not fair, if I ate foods like that, I would gain weight.
I'm so busy and don't have time for the gym, I barely eat anything and can't lose weight. Your so lucky being able to eat what you want and stay skinny.
Still asking for me to tell her "my secret", I offered to help and show her mfp and how it works. This was turned down because she had already tried MFP in the past and it doesn't work. That's why she doesn't believe it has worked for me.
The reasons she stated for mfp not working was " I had to log everything, including a glass of wine or two some evenings or the take away lunch when busy. It's not fair because this always put me over my calorie target. It's impossible, doesn't work and I just wish I knew your secret!
At this point I changed the conversation, it's also the reason that I don't talk about my weight loss unless asked.

I just read "the thin woman's brain" it was rather enlightening and I am working on it. Essentially the premise is that thin people eat what they want but they naturally stop before they are super full and their brain can distinguish hunger from boredom/sad/annoyed/thirsty.0

While this "thin people don't eat when they are not really hungry" may be true for some thin people for others it is not. The only thing thin people for sure have in common is that they are not eating the amount of calories consistantly that would cause them to be overweight. If you are tracking your calories you can do that too.2
