Why are ppl questioning you so much lol. I live with ppl who STUFF themselves with tons and tons of food and remain the same. Activity level you ask? None. Don't question me because I live with them haha.
Lol, lots of people live with others and have no idea about their lives outside of what they personally see. So yeah, it's EASY to question it unless you're documenting everything they do everyday for say like a week or so.
The EASY answer is that they plain just burn more calories than they eat. Believe it or not, most people that can eat a lot, eventually gain weight because somewhere along the way, they reduce their physical activity, but not habitual eating habits.

My brother is one of these. His secret? He only eats once a day, and sometimes only ever other day. For whatever reason, he just doesn’t get hungry, and won’t eat unless somebody reminds him to. He’s been like that his entire life.

:open_mouth: Seems like that would make it difficult to get adequate nutrition. Poor guy! I'd not trade my love and enjoyment of food for anything.

He’s definitely not the healthiest person I know, I’m trying to change than. But whatever it is, he doesn’t have the in-built desire for food that I, and most of us here I suspect, have. For him eating has always just been something he does to keep from dying.

The funny thing? He’s a manager at a restaurant, and occasional chef.

Wow that's a very interesting career choice for someone who doesn't really like food! I suspect you're right - I know my love of food has contributed to my being here.

I actually wonder about this a lot. I’ve only recently learned that not everyone LOVES alcohol the way I do. I’ve never understood how defensive people get about “junk” food, when for me, it’s just not the logical decision. I wonder if it doesn’t give me the extremely good feelings, but it does for other people. Sure, I like butter, but it’s nothing for me to eat a baked potato plain, if I want to cut calories. I’m also someone who doesn’t eat when stressed. The idea nauseates me. On the other hand, I seriously don’t want to cut out alcohol no matter how logical it is.

Oh I'm 100% convinced that some people just don't like food the way that others do.

That's probably true in my case. I've often thought that life would be so much simpler if we could just take a nutrition pill first thing in the morning and be done with the whole eating thing.

I'm not into cooking, and the texture and flavour of most food is "meh" at best, and often rather disappointing, if not completely horrible. My stomach just feels better if it has something in it. This is probably why I can eat more or less the same food just about every day. I've got a collection of inoffensive food items which I eat over and over.

(And regarding alcohol ... I've tried different things at different times and it ranges from tolerable to completely awful. About the only alcoholic beverage I could stand to drink two in a row of is a Long Island Iced Tea -- it's the only one that tastes reasonably good. Otherwise, I'd simply rather not have it. Water tastes better.)

How come some skinny people eat more than an overweight person and remain the same ?I see so many skinny people stuffing their face constantly and they stay the same all the time.I dont get it do you ? I would love to be one of those people lol

Newsflash: they probably don't. They may not constantly have the super-palatable high-calorie foods around, and thus may partake extra at potlucks/other occasions where you see them.

Or alternatively, they may be training for a triathlon or play in a sports league or have a physically demanding job, or ... (ie they can eat a lot because they aren't sitting on their *kitten* all day).

My BF is the same way. It's actually really frustrating. I've actually asked him about it, and his secret is that he doesn't eat all day and then GORGES on dinner.

EG: on Sunday, we had breakfast together and even though it looked like he was drowning his oatmeal in a bunch of honey and brown sugar and nuts, my peanut butter serving actually packed MORE calories, it just looked like less food.

Then I snacked throughout the day and he sat down and DOWNED a bag of honey butter potato chips. 1,050 calories. I had a serving of the chips (150 cals which looked pathetic), but also some carrots and some pop corn and snacked on veg while cooking. So I had ton of food that looked like NOTHING individually but added up really quickly.

EG2: he ate an entire meat lovers pizza on Friday. Gave me major FOMO but then he pointed out that he skipped lunch and didn't eat breakfast. I only saw the entire pizza and *assumed* he ate all day too, like I do.

He's also my height but is DENSE and muscular. He does NOT sit still well, and fidgets with EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME.

He takes walks at lunch and around the office. I don't get to see all that all the time.

My husband does this too -- he'll have a couple cups of coffee and maybe a small bowl of cereal during the day and then he'll eat all the rest of his calories between 7 PM and midnight. If you didn't see how little he ate during the day, it would be quite confusing to figure out how he maintains his weight while eating huge dinners and high calorie desserts.

if genetics determined if you were fat or not, then I nor my sisters should be overweight as both parents were of normal weight(mom was always thin) and both sets of grandparents were in normal weight ranges for their height. even my half sisters who have different dads their dads were/are tall and thin and their grandparents on that side were also normal weight. everyone of us are overweight. mom is still thin due to drinking most of her meals and eating barely ever(alcoholic-she was thin before she started drinking). I know how I got fat, my sisters know how they got fat. from eating more than we burned and moving less than we did when younger. Im the only one doing something about it.Ive lost weight ,they havent

yeah which means you get your shape from them but not the being obese. If genetics determined whether a person was thin or not then I should have never gotten fat lol. if only it worked that way

It can also be genetics and metabolism. I do have friends who are very skinny and try to gain weight but their entire family is thin. Genetics play a big role in your body. My entire family on both sides is obese and morbidly obese. I gain weight faster than my friends with genetically thin family. I have to work harder at it. But after losing weight I can eat a little more and not gain it like I use to because my metabolism has sped up a tiny bit but not by much. I'm the thinest person in my family because I'm scared to be them.
Metabolisms are different from person to person, but again if one exceeds their TDEE constantly, they will gain weight. I GUARANTEE you that any person that eats more than they can burn off, regardless of how thin they are, will gain weight. Being thin for the whole family is more likely attributed to behavior of eating than genetics.
You'd have to explain how in many families in the world, where some siblings and parents are thin, and then those who are obese. Better yet, I have lots of relatives in the Philippines who are of petite and thin stature, but their cousins and family in the US are all overweight. I can tell you that MONEY to buy food is the major difference here.
