How to become that skinny friend who eats what they want and dont gain weight

Why are ppl questioning you so much lol. I live with ppl who STUFF themselves with tons and tons of food and remain the same. Activity level you ask? None. Don't question me because I live with them haha.
The EASY answer is that they plain just burn more calories than they eat. Believe it or not, most people that can eat a lot, eventually gain weight because somewhere along the way, they reduce their physical activity, but not habitual eating habits.

3 -
During a business dinner, one of my coworkers joked that I "eat like a trucker" and I must have an "amazing metabolism" to not gain weight.
I just nodded and laughed along, but I should have told him the truth - I practice intermittent fasting and usually only have one meal a day - especially if I know I'm going to a restaurant that day.8 -
Parting thought. If these people who could "eat anything" and still stay skinny really did exist, and in sufficient numbers that everybody seems to know one, scientists would have rounded up a bunch of them to study by now to figure out what hormone their body was producing that made them that way and bottled that *kitten* up for mass production, a long time ago.22

Seems like that would make it difficult to get adequate nutrition. Poor guy! I'd not trade my love and enjoyment of food for anything.
He’s definitely not the healthiest person I know, I’m trying to change than. But whatever it is, he doesn’t have the in-built desire for food that I, and most of us here I suspect, have. For him eating has always just been something he does to keep from dying.
The funny thing? He’s a manager at a restaurant, and occasional chef.
Wow that's a very interesting career choice for someone who doesn't really like food! I suspect you're right - I know my love of food has contributed to my being here.
I actually wonder about this a lot. I’ve only recently learned that not everyone LOVES alcohol the way I do. I’ve never understood how defensive people get about “junk” food, when for me, it’s just not the logical decision. I wonder if it doesn’t give me the extremely good feelings, but it does for other people. Sure, I like butter, but it’s nothing for me to eat a baked potato plain, if I want to cut calories. I’m also someone who doesn’t eat when stressed. The idea nauseates me. On the other hand, I seriously don’t want to cut out alcohol no matter how logical it is.
Oh I'm 100% convinced that some people just don't like food the way that others do.
That's probably true in my case. I've often thought that life would be so much simpler if we could just take a nutrition pill first thing in the morning and be done with the whole eating thing.
I'm not into cooking, and the texture and flavour of most food is "meh" at best, and often rather disappointing, if not completely horrible. My stomach just feels better if it has something in it. This is probably why I can eat more or less the same food just about every day. I've got a collection of inoffensive food items which I eat over and over.
(And regarding alcohol ... I've tried different things at different times and it ranges from tolerable to completely awful. About the only alcoholic beverage I could stand to drink two in a row of is a Long Island Iced Tea -- it's the only one that tastes reasonably good. Otherwise, I'd simply rather not have it. Water tastes better.)1 -
I guess I'm that skinny friend who always eats. Colleagues have been asking me how I can stay slim as I always seem to be eating. it's all perception though. I put my 5 slices of wholegrain bread on my desk in the morning, together with a pile of fruit and/or veggies. and yes, I'm always eating something. But thing is: this pile of food is just around 720kcal, and people can't see what I eat at home.5
-
I'm that person who eats a lot at events etc., and still stay fit. I'm told that I'm lucky, have great genetics or an awesome metabolism.
But what people don't see is the hard work and discipline I put into my workouts everyday early in the morning and sometimes during the evening too.
Or how I ate lighter that day and saved the bulk of my calories for that meal (intermittent fasting). Maybe I banked calories earlier that week for that event.
Also most don't realize that I am not drinking calories or that I am eating smaller amounts of everything or a whole lot of a couple of things. This makes it appear that I am eating everything in sight when I'm not.
I don't give responses or explain myself. I just smile and change the subject.15 -
I am that person who can eat and eat and eat and stay relatively small....IT SUCKS!!!! I have to eat double sometimes triple what most ppl eat and work out even harder so that i can gain weight10

How come some skinny people eat more than an overweight person and remain the same ?I see so many skinny people stuffing their face constantly and they stay the same all the time.I dont get it do you ? I would love to be one of those people lol
Newsflash: they probably don't. They may not constantly have the super-palatable high-calorie foods around, and thus may partake extra at potlucks/other occasions where you see them.
Or alternatively, they may be training for a triathlon or play in a sports league or have a physically demanding job, or ... (ie they can eat a lot because they aren't sitting on their *kitten* all day).1 -
Lol no they don't burn, barely anything at all actually. I am 100% sure, well you can keep questioning I guess lol no one will believe
Questioning should be done because there are other people who lurk here that will see this and may think they have a friend the same way. It's still CICO when it comes to weight loss/gain/maintenance.

Well the roomie doesn't work, and I'm guessing the OP does? So I'm thinking hidden cameras.
I'm thinking op.should spend more.time worrying about herself than her room mate.
Is it just me that thinks of single white female.here
Haha you are so immature .Who said it was my roomate ? And who said I was worried ?Seriously you guys on MFP need to be a bit more educated and maybe read over what I posted again
You said you live with the person. Your mom? Your wife? Sister? What difference does it make? I'm not sure why I assumed female, but if it's a guy, that's another reason they can eat more.
And it's not nice insulting people just because you're not getting the answers you're expecting. That's, erm, immature.
Where did I insult someone ? Immature is that the word you think is an insult. The truth hurts doesnt it but anyway I have the answer now so you dont need to waste your time arguing with some stranger on the internet that you will never know LOL17 -

Don't you have a thread about trouble bulking where it came out that you don't log your calories... at all?
I was like you - or thought I was. Rail skinny almost my entire life and then I decided I wanted to lift and I wanted "bear mode" so I started to bulk. Had moderate success and gained to about 180 (I'm 6'1) and hit a wall. I couldn't figure it out, as I was eating "triple what most ppl eat" and was working out on a good program, lifted heavy, and never cheated myself in the gym.
Well, I discovered MFP about a year ago and started logging. What I also discovered is that I wasn't eating nearly as many calories as I thought. Most days I wasn't even breaking 3K. I started to up my calories any way I could, including drinking a majority of them at times. Miracles of miracles... I started gaining again. I've had to up them a few times in the last year and now have to eat about 4.5K to gain, but then again ... I'm also 240# now and in dire need of a cut.
Anyhow, my point is that it's not only those on the outside looking in that overestimate calories consumed for skinny people... it's often the skinny people that do that same thing. It's the reason there are so many "hard gainer" threads that pop up around here.15 -

In my experience, even if you try to tell people, they won't believe you.
It's easier for some people to think they missed out on getting a "skinny gene" than it is for them to accept that people can create habits and routines that allow them to manage their weight.10 -

Yes, calling someone immature, especially where it's not warranted because YOU lack understanding on the topic and people are trying to HELP YOU understand, is definitely an insult. Quit projecting.17 -
My BF is the same way. It's actually really frustrating. I've actually asked him about it, and his secret is that he doesn't eat all day and then GORGES on dinner.
EG: on Sunday, we had breakfast together and even though it looked like he was drowning his oatmeal in a bunch of honey and brown sugar and nuts, my peanut butter serving actually packed MORE calories, it just looked like less food.
Then I snacked throughout the day and he sat down and DOWNED a bag of honey butter potato chips. 1,050 calories. I had a serving of the chips (150 cals which looked pathetic), but also some carrots and some pop corn and snacked on veg while cooking. So I had ton of food that looked like NOTHING individually but added up really quickly.
EG2: he ate an entire meat lovers pizza on Friday. Gave me major FOMO but then he pointed out that he skipped lunch and didn't eat breakfast. I only saw the entire pizza and *assumed* he ate all day too, like I do.
He's also my height but is DENSE and muscular. He does NOT sit still well, and fidgets with EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME.
He takes walks at lunch and around the office. I don't get to see all that all the time.13 -

My husband does this too -- he'll have a couple cups of coffee and maybe a small bowl of cereal during the day and then he'll eat all the rest of his calories between 7 PM and midnight. If you didn't see how little he ate during the day, it would be quite confusing to figure out how he maintains his weight while eating huge dinners and high calorie desserts.2 -

My best friend and former roommate is like this. She's not hungry in the mornings, just has a tea or something, and then eats a light lunch and full dinner. She's also someone who loses her appetite when she's stressed - she dropped a few unplanned pounds right before her wedding because she was trying to take care of a thousand things while working right up until the weekend of the wedding. PLUS her job is more active than mine...she does more walking in the course of her day at the office than I do because her "office" is spread out over a middle school campus. She was sad she hadn't had time for Zumba and confided that she was afraid she was going to gain weight because she'd stopped exercising. The reason she stopped having time? She'd started coaching the middle school basketball team. Needless to say, no weight gain.
But from the outside she eats a lot at events, loves Jersey bagels, "doesn't go to the gym," and is ALWAYS carrying around a Dunkin cup (spoiler: it's just full of unsweet iced/hot tea).5 -

It can also be genetics and metabolism. I do have friends who are very skinny and try to gain weight but their entire family is thin. Genetics play a big role in your body. My entire family on both sides is obese and morbidly obese. I gain weight faster than my friends with genetically thin family. I have to work harder at it. But after losing weight I can eat a little more and not gain it like I use to because my metabolism has sped up a tiny bit but not by much. I'm the thinest person in my family because I'm scared to be them.9

I hate when “genetics” are thought to cause differences in how people gain weight. On the superficial level yeah they may because they influence behavior which influences calorie output and eating behavior (like eating less after eating more they may naturally exert the extra energy without realizing by being more active etc). They don’t gain when overeating because they balance it out like everyone has said on here. It’s not because they have a magic genetic difference that allows them to have a “faster metabolism” it’s behavior and genetics CAN play a role in that. But not in the way you are saying.

Because I live with one and I do see them all the time and have friends also who are like this
No, you don't. Unless you are observing them literally 24/7 and counting their calories for them, you don't know what their intake is vs their output. Friends and family will always ask me how I can eat what I want without gaining anything and it's getting real old real fast. Don't be that guy.6 -

I dont even need to do that .Okay let me tell you what their typical diet is like.Morning breakfast 2 fried eggs 2 sausages 2 rashers 2 pudding 2 slices of toast.Dinner a nine inch pizza with fries and garlic bread. Then a big tub of ben and jerrys later on then a family pack of doritos and a chocolate bar. Then before they sleep they eat sausage rolls more buttered toast and some cookies .Now honestly that has to be atleast 4000 cals
So your friend spends 50 dollars a week on ben&jerry's?6 -
if genetics determined if you were fat or not, then I nor my sisters should be overweight as both parents were of normal weight(mom was always thin) and both sets of grandparents were in normal weight ranges for their height. even my half sisters who have different dads their dads were/are tall and thin and their grandparents on that side were also normal weight. everyone of us are overweight. mom is still thin due to drinking most of her meals and eating barely ever(alcoholic-she was thin before she started drinking). I know how I got fat, my sisters know how they got fat. from eating more than we burned and moving less than we did when younger. Im the only one doing something about it.Ive lost weight ,they havent4

You'd have to explain how in many families in the world, where some siblings and parents are thin, and then those who are obese. Better yet, I have lots of relatives in the Philippines who are of petite and thin stature, but their cousins and family in the US are all overweight. I can tell you that MONEY to buy food is the major difference here.

yeah which means you get your shape from them but not the being obese. If genetics determined whether a person was thin or not then I should have never gotten fat lol. if only it worked that way2 -
