Keri, No one can keep up with thread. Most of us just read as much as possible and respond to a few posts that catch our interest. I need to stay connected to these women to help me remember that my health is the most important thing in my life. Without it, I have no life.

Hi, everyone! Nice to meet you, Barb! Hope you don't mind if I jump into this challenge. First time posting on MFP, and this seems like an inspiring group!
I want to drop 6 pounds by August 1, and be comfortable hiking up a 240 foot hill with a 25 degree grade, at a decent pace and without stopping to catch my breath. Will be visiting family in western Ireland in mid-August and we want to do a few day hikes on the Wild Atlantic Way.
I've been preparing for 2 weeks, including walking home from work (3 miles) 2-3 days a week, and have done 4 elevation hikes. But now, I want to add 3 days a week of weights & core work, and get to a point where I can climb 6 flights of steps (I work in a 12 story building & will take advantage of that). Dreading the step challenge.
Best of luck to everyone!9 -

My advice on the caregiver situation based on watching my mother deal with round the clock caregivers for her brother for 9 months. Decide what level of comfort you can live with and set boundaries from the beginning. For example, are you ok with them drinking your tea or do you prefer they bring their own? What about food or snAcks? Do you want them prowling in your cabinets or to ask you for needed supplies. What about smoking? You’d be surprised at the number of caregivers who smoke. What about phone? WiFi? My mother did not set boundaries and had issues with caregivers who are up all her food, stayed on the phone, and encroached on her personal space, in particular the kitchen, way too much. The unprofessionalism I witnessed from my uncle’s caregivers was outrageous.
Thanks for mentioning those things ... it has helped me think through a few things to say.
The caregiver will be here while I'm at work, so we'll have our evenings and weekends to ourselves. So that's a good thing. And when my husband goes to Community Rehab, she won't be here either.
Smoking - absolutely not! Our lease won't allow that sort of thing in our house ... not to mention, I'm very allergic. So few people I know still smoke, so it didn't actually occur to me to ask about that till after I hung up the phone. But if she does, it will have to be outside, well away from the door.
I don't mind if providing tea and coffee, in fact, one of the things my husband has learned to do is to make tea and coffee so he'll probably want to do that.
But other food, I'd prefer she provide herself. However, she is supposed to help my husband make his lunches and make dinner if he needs help. I'm supposed to create a bit of a schedule that has him doing a household task or two each day like making dinner, doing a load of laundry, etc. and the idea is that she would offer support/assistance as necessary.
There will be down times when my husband naps because he needs a lot of rest, so I'll suggest she bring a book or other quiet activity for those times.
We'll meet her today, and then there will usually be a 10-20 minute overlap at the beginning and end of the day, however, I'm planning to come home a bit early sometimes. And as my husband gains confidence, it may be that she looks in on him for a couple hours in an afternoon or something.

Macka - my niece runs a PCA service in Mn. My sister is a PCA for a little girl and my mom. They bring their own food and drink. They are professional (or should be) caregivers and have an agenda to perform while at your house. You need to talk to the PCA service to see what the plan for your husband is and that will dictate how many hours they work and what they will be doing each day. Her are the guidelines for Mn
https://mn.gov/mnddc/past/pdf/00s/02/02-PCA-MND.pdf
You can google other sites for more information. I suggest talking to the agency that will be caring for your husband with any questions.

Good day! It has been a restful and relaxing one. I worked in flower bed for an hour. Spent day running errands with husband, dinner out, ice cream, then visiting with some good friends. Didn't get steps in. But relaxing was more important!
Welcome to new ladies!
Keep sharing pictures. I love them!
Love clean slate!

Did the Body by Bethany DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do some hula hoop, hold my plank, then take the extremepump class.
Kylia – I’m like you, I’d prefer the heat to the cold. As long as it isn’t humid. When we’re in Florida, even tho it is humid, I can sort-of stand it because I’m usually out by the pool. Your pics are great, what a transormation! How tall are you?
Katla – have a great trip!
Where is Joyce?
Lisa – have fun with your company. Glad they can spend the night
Rachel – welcome! Jump right in. We’re glad to have ya. We used to live in Kennett Square! One of my daughters, Jess, went to the vo-tech there >Coatsville> (can’t think of the name of it right now)
Lanette – my ancestors ate lots of high fats, too. And they never had a weight problem. A good part is the fact that they worked hard, had little time to sit. Today we do more sitting
Barbie – lol Shasha
Cut the grass today and used the weedwacker, then you can guess where I went…lol Tonight I’m going to go to the movies. There is a place around here that runs movies for like $3 so I’m going to go. I really really wanted to see “I feel Pretty” but that ended Friday. So I’m thinking I’ll see “Life of the Party”
Jazzy – welcome back
Mizlily – welcome. Adorable cat
Snowflake – adorable girls!
Went to the movies tonight. Unfortunately, the one movie I really wanted to see finished Friday (I don’t know why I got an email saying that it started Friday), so I was going to see another movie only we found out that the theater where it was showing didn’t have a/c so we opted to see “Book Club”

Hello!
Last night I had a post ready to go on my iPhone, but, if you’re familiar with the format of MFP on an iPhone, there’s a “Done” button on the upper right and a “Post Reply” button in the bottom right. If you have the keyboard up in view you may not see the “Post Reply” button. You probably know where this story is going.... Yep! I hit the “Done” button! Poof! All gone.
I wished someone a happy birthday, made nice comments on pictures, and now I can’t remember what happened 10 pages ago!
Thank you Barbie for setting up yet another link for July! You are the best!
I did ok for June. 2 lbs down and I started swimming at the YMCA. I feel more energetic and even bought some summer tee shirts in 1X size instead of 2Xs! Yeah me!
My goals for July:
Keep up swimming
Drink more water
Lose 3 lbs
Cont. cleaning garage
Quit whining
Be grateful
I was whining about the neighbor dog being here all the time. She is always stinky, so today I brought her into the shower with me and gave her a bath.
She looks pretty and more pleasant to pet. Here’s our dog Dolly and Callie the blackish one in the picture below. DH said they were on call!!
Good night!

I'm so thrilled for you. I love taking trips in the motor home. I leave all my troubles and concerns behind and just relax and enjoy my surroundings. I'm sure the fur baby will be grateful.
ENJOY!!!

Snowflake - Love the pics! The jewel makeup is fab!
Karen - Lovely boy. So big, in a nice way.
Well, our garage freezer is kaput. :noway: :noway: Will have to cook all the meat and refreeze. Unfortunately we had recently done a big shop, so there is loads. The garden fruit is refreezeable. So a long, hot day of cooking for me.
We are at the humid stage of our heatwave. No fun.
Plus have to drive to get my blood pressure meds and sort my phone micro card.
Oh well.

Hey Y'All...
Goals for July=
1) find new trainer
2) 50 pound chest press
3) lose 2 lbs. (net - after the Puffy Princess and her retinue depart)
That's enough... and if I have to, I can work on the chest press, alone. Although it's so much easier with a trainer to push me to go harder and farther than I think I can.
Sorry about the Freezer, Heather... I have had that happen, myself.
Hugs for Everybody!

This is an interesting article. Not so much for the topic of the article (it talks about a situation that's going on here in Australia these days regarding shopping bags), but because of a description of the how the brain works ...
https://www.news.com.au/finance/business/retail/they-dont-really-understand-consumers-at-all-why-coles-and-woolies-plastic-bag-ban-backfired/news-story/222e36541650b0a01bcc3cebe1532f9d?utm_content=SocialFlow&utm_medium=Facebook&utm_campaign=EditorialSF&utm_source=News.com.au
I quote:
"Deakin University’s Centre for Employee and Consumer Wellbeing behaviour researcher Dr Paul Harrison the disconnect had to do with “the difference between an attitude and a behaviour”.
“People can say, ‘I like the idea of having to bring my own bags’, but people struggle with those things. You can say you’ll do something but whether you’ll do that are two different parts of the brain,” Dr Harrison said.
“Getting into neuroscience, the prefrontal cortex says, ‘Yes of course I can do that’, but the prehistoric brain says, ‘I’ll just keep doing what I’ve always done.’”
Dr Harrison said the fiasco showed why polling as a means of making business decisions was “so problematic”."
I find this interesting because it applies to what happens here in MFP. One part of our brains says, "Yep, I'm going to eat fewer calories than I burn" but it is another part of our brains that has to actually get us to do it.

Hi Sisters,
I'm back from visiting my daughter and grandies. Successfully completed the half marathon in atrocious weather conditions. Rain and a head wind blowing off the ocean. I was soaked down to my undergarments and had to steep myself in a hot bath afterwards to raise my body temperature back up. But got a nice medal! As well as a large blister, LOL. My leg muscles are still sore today.
Machka, great to hear that your hubby is at home and hope his progress speeds up in his own familiar environment. Will be less stressful on you to not have to go to the hospital all the time.
Barbie, love that pic of your poodle barking at herself in the mirror. Animals are so funny! And thanks again for keeping us all linked in cyber space! Pretty soon Lanette will have our transporters up and running and we can drop in on each other for morning tea, and then all go to Heather's for a proper six course dinner.
I played a joke on my husband when I got home. My youngest daughter is so excited because she is pregnant. She has been trying ever since the ectopic pregnancy emergency surgery six months ago. She gave me her positive pregnancy test stick and told me to pretend to my husband that I was pregnant. I showed it to him and he said, "You can't be!" and I said, "You must have grown back together-20% do," referring to his vasectomy. "But you can't get pregnant at 52!" "Oh yes I can, I still get my periods, " I said. "It must be yours because I haven't shagged anyone else!" "I want a DNA test to prove it's mine!" he said. I made him sweat for 30 minutes before I told him he's going to be grand dad again. LOL I was laughing so hard I cried! Wendy12 -

Did well on staying on track with the diet.
Sleep is improving because I am having fewer leg cramps.
July
1. Me time everyday
2. Continue diet of eliminating as much sugar as I can and refined grains.
3. Continue to walk and attend Zumba classes when I can, Swim at least once a week. Adding exercises that help my glutes not be so tight.
