Oh so I fixed my famous chicken fried rice tonight. On the logging I generalized to just homemade chicken fried rice, and so I calculated 1/2 cups worth. Waiting patiently for my tempura shrimp, yummy!

I’m sitting beside our campfire enjoying the evening. DH & the dog have gone inside the RV for the night. DH is exhausted from being more active than usual. I’m not worried about it, quite the opposite. He’s been more active than any time in the past few years, & I am thrilled that he’s doing enjoyable things again. ❤️⭐️❤️⭐️❤️⭐️9

Rebecca - Well done! Both for finding the screen shot and for going for that walk.
I woke up at 4 am and couldn't get back to sleep. Got up at 5 and read your posts, then decided to go for my run. Left the house at 5.40. Ran for one hour and eight minutes. I then realised I hadn't got my keys with me so pottered around the house weeding the driveway and watering the pots of flowers. By then it was 7, so felt it was ok to wake up DH.
During my run and watering I listened to three Soul Music podcasts - Send In The Clowns, Brahms German Requiem, and Lily Marlene. All wonderful.
Have I managed to persuade any of you to try them? Barbie? I think you would love them! Available as downloads from BBC radio. It's Radio 4 . There is an iplayer radio app, but I think you can get it on their website.
Going to visit my friend with the ligament surgery today. She has to put no weight on it for 6 weeks. Oooooohhhh! Huge plaster. As she is a demon walker this is truly awful. She severed a ligament in her big toe, which then retreated back to her ankle. I'm taking a chilli I've frozen big enough for her and her son who has flown back from Korea to look after her. She is coeliac and a healthy eater, so no chocolates or cake.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx

HEATHER can't seem to find those podcasts
Kate UK1 -
Kate - I just looked up BBC Soul Music podcasts on Google on my phone I think. I have the BBC Radio app on my tablet, but not on my phone. That took me to the list and I downloaded a selection. I'm using Sony Music app to play them as the Google Play app turns off when I turn the phone sideways to put in my running belt!
They have all been brilliant.
After breakfast I did 30 minutes rowing and 15 mins elliptical. Then I did my floor work and my weights. Go me! I calculate that all comes to 800 calories, but I log 600 and eat back 600, so that gives me up to 1800 calories a day to eat. The extra 200 are bonus calories I don't eat back, so my daily deficit is 600. That gives me a pound loss approximately every 6 days in a perfect world. Of course, life isn't perfect, but it more or less works. I have lost the two pounds I put on over the cruise since the 19th when we got back. (I was higher than that immediately, but some was water ) I am aiming at 9 stone 12 lbs. Down 2 lbs rom now and from my previous target when I thought I was an inch taller. That will give me a BMI of under 24.
I've been gradually washing cushion covers and sofa covers, so I might do another one today. I still have to make some sense of my writing "archive", but I thought Harvard would have rung me by now. DH is feeling a bit more relaxed about the vast quantity of boxes and files since we are buying a house with lots of storage. The garage has extra storage in its roof.
Looking forward to seeing my friend today.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx6 -
HEATHER I downloaded the app and the was able to find them, haven't listened yet. Thanks for the tip
Have just completed my KB workout and 45 minute video, cardio and resistance. Fitbit records about 400 cals in total. I'm 9st 5lb at the moment my BMI is 24 I think. I'd really love to lose another 7 lbs but life gets in the way, anyway life is for living and at 73 I'm happy and healthy, no meds needed, only our cocktail of fish oil, garlic, multi vitamin and calcium tablets daily. DH is 77 and takes a pill for benign prostate enlargement.
Good luck with your move

Kate UK - best medical advice is that it's not a good idea to go too low when you are older. I have plenty of flab around my middle, so a couple more pounds loss won't hurt me. So easy to look scraggy at our age! I am delighted with how I look and feel these days. Hoping I keep my health and don't drop a knife on my toe.
Had a nice chat with my friend in Wales this morning. I shared a flat with her at university. Don’t see her often, but it's still good to talk.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx5 -
Welcome new folks make sure to give us a name we can call you and a location, so great you found us.
Well the heatwave may be coming to an end, at least a little break. So off to the back yard to start taking apart a raised bed, one little step at a time. Also have to repaint the wrought iron handrails. Teeny steps
Hope all the pups fared well amongst all the fireworks.

Good morning! Happy Thursday!
BArbie- My phone is a Samsung Galaxy4!! I gave my last two upgrades to my DH (his old phone was a flip phone) and my DYS (because I am a nice mom). But I have noticed the limitations of my older phone as technology marches on. SO...the next upgrade will be mine. (This fall I think) Going to stick with the Galaxy line. Good phones!
Heather- 5:00-6:00 was always my run time! Yea, you! Running, weeding, yard work! That is a busy morning and very kind of you to let DH sleep a bit!
Keri- The kids at the beach with me are my daycare kids. I only have one grandchild so far, and he lives in Texas; so the kids I refer to most often are my job. For the most part; a fun job.
Welcome new ladies!- This is a wonderful and supportive bunch of women. Come often, chime in when you feel the urge, log daily, and don't forget to bookmark the page to make it easier to find us!
Did a bit of yardwork this morning, while the temps are more reasonable, so I am running a bit behind schedule. Hugs and strength to all who need them! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)4 -

Heather, I found the BBC Radio 4 website and downloaded a podcast to my phone. Later I'll spend more time checking out the variety.
Kelly, My Samsung Galaxy S9 has better sound quality and longer battery life and quicker charging....lots of other features, but the sound and battery are important to me...also a larger screen.2 -
Lanette I do not think increasing sugar after giving up alcohol as unusual. They encourage it in alcoholic anonymous.
I recently learned they lace cigarettes with sugar too. So it is normal to crave sweets when you quit and thus the common adding ten as a result.
Where I have seen it personally is in my brother and his wife. They gave up alcohol years ago but both have a massive sweet tooth. The reason they stay lean is the swim at least a mile a day everyday. My DSIL is hypogylcemic. My DS is giving up alcohol and replacing it with a sweet diet. I had an aunt whose mother was an alcoholic. She did not drink but she had to have her sweets and ended up diabetic.
I still remember my dad talking about how sugar raises your insulin and will cause you to gain weight and this was over thirty years ago.
He loved to tell the story about how his company had a doctor on site, and they diagnosed him with high blood pressure. He took their pills, but when he went back it was still high, so they upped the dose. On his own he realized they checked right it after he drank his tea that was loaded with Tang (pure sugar). When he quit loading in the Tang his blood pressure went down. It made him angry that the doctors did not take the time to make the connection. What I learned from his story is that I know my body the best and by listening to it I can often figure out what caused my problem.
We did not get rain last night, so we were treated to an hour of fireworks up the street at our local elementary school. It is not advertised but more and more people come through word of mouth. Fortunately we just had had rain so the risk of fire was low. They also set off these Japanese lanterns that were like mini hot air balloons. Quite a sight.

I just love this group I read every post, but still struggle with remembering who I should say what too unless I use the quote. I'll get it one day.
I saw this last night and thought I would share.

I have decided to try doing intermittent fasting. I realized yesterday that if I lost 7 or 8 more pounds I would be considered overweight instead of obese. I have kind of been doing it since last Saturday but not truly. Watching all the Youtube videos and find it interesting.

Watched lively fireworks from our campground last night. B/c of desert and no trees, we had a great view. Dogs weren’t bother, the distance muffled the noise.
DH has been very tired and sleeping a lot. Not him at all.
Me, I’m not sleeping well. Too much worry and not enough exercise.
Going to Walmart in town. I hope t get pics around the old part of town, maybe I’ll go when DH takes a nap. I got pics of the Little Painted Desert yesterday while he was napping. Will post once I download from my camera.

My journey thus fsr:
Its interesting the lulls, the sharp drop offs.
Last night, because our neighborhood sounded like a frillin war zone, I counted back with my weight. I nice mental exercise, just thinking as I count down to Onderland. I think about how I'll feel, what I might look like, specific clothes I can fit into, not just about numbers.👍
Today is exercise at the gym. I do the once around with husband in the weight circuit room, then I walk at a 3.0 for 30 minutes. I like how I feel afterwards, if only I could get that feeling in a pill form....😝.
This afternoon I have my surgeon's consultation. Wondering what the scan showed him. On the one hand, I hope one of the party's is wonky because then it will make sense all the symptoms I am having. On the otherhand, if he says there was nothing then what?
Well its time to go!
Have a nice day my friends!

@Kevrit (Rita)google your hubby's disease, it's not a cancer precursor, and often it goes away on it's own in a few months! So sorry you've been worrying yourself over it! @Janet, your GD is beautiful, what an exciting time! Barbie, you GO girl! I'm on my very first smart phone, had it a year, and still don't know how to do most things on it! lol Took me 3 months to learn how to answer a call, I had to call everyone back! 4th of July... y'all have me SO jealous... our town holds their celebrations on the 3rd. Every year. The THIRD! Takes all the fun out of the 4th. No day long parties here, celebration starts at 6PM, over by 9! BUMMER! Top it all off? IT RAINED!!! ROFL

Carol - good luck with that! I did the 5:2 for a couple weeks and it really did work. Main thing for me was to forgo added sugar and salty snacks on the non-fast days.... even tho the video's say "eat what you want" on the other days, they didn't take me into account, lol. And perhaps younger folks can get away with it.
Heather - So sorry for your friend's bad luck with that severed ligament. You are such a sweetie for taking chili over to her. Glad her son is coming back for a bit to help care for her.
Kate - my BMI is also around 24 and I have to content myself with it. I agree with Heather - it's easy to look scraggy at our age, lol.
I think my new "project" is investigating weight loss and health in seniors over 65, I keep reading so much about how it's OK to be a bit on the heavier side, but read yesterday that healthwise, it's OK to be overweight with subQ fat as long as the person doesn't have a lot of abdominal fat. Per Dr. Robert Lustig "FAT Chance", Caucasians can often bear a BMI of 30 before they have adverse heath effects (I think this explains why my "stout" German grandmothers were long lived and pretty healthy). Blacks can go as high as a BMI of 35, while the cut off for Asians is 25!
Yet, most of these experts say to watch our waist sizes and belly fat and the waist size for women shouldn't go over 35 inches. I think that's an overgeneralization. Decades ago at 5'9" I had a waist under 35". For my 5'4" sister, a 35" waist would mean she's packing some - perhaps too much - fat around her middle.
Anyhow, figuring out what's right for me. As long as my blood pressure and blood sugar are in line and I can keep my brain healthy, that's the main thing.
Mary - are you or were you doing a 16/8 eating program? I am having trouble coming up with lower carb foods - though I think adding more nuts would be a good solution since they are high in healthy fats and protein and fiber with fewer carbs. I have LOTS of little avocados in the fridge and put one on my salad each night but eating another one during the day is too much, lol. Hope your daughter is doing OK at home - updates? Sending prayers!
Margaret - thank you for your input regarding alcohol and sugar in your family. My grandfather was a type2 diabetic as was his father so I know it runs in the family. He was always adamant that we kids would never drink and I wasn't sure why - if it was because of the cost, the church teachings, OR if there was alcoholism in some of his relatives and they connected it to diabetes. I don't have diabetes but I do keep an eye on it by testing my FBS every couple weeks and ordering an A1C test when I have my blood tested yearly. I see that cloud over my head after I go crazy with sugary foods ....
Rebecca - you are doing a FABULOUS job! Way to go getting in your gym time and good luck at the doc appointment this afternoon. Hope the fireworks is done...tho in our county they are allowed to still BLAST them tonight. Crazy.
Kelly - I loved the photo of your "kids" at the beach.
Have a good Thursday ladies!

Lanette ~ I am going to try the 16/8 mixed with the 12/8 as must be. My biggest problem is that when I get up in the morning, I feel so hungry. But, after a couple of cups of coffee it goes away. One of the YouTube speakers said you should not put anything in your coffee but I will be putting fat free 1/2 n 1/2.
1 -
Carol - I am making myself like black coffee, lol. I water it down about half with water then really look forward to my coffee with milk later. It's taking some "doing" tho.
Does your FF 1/2 & 1/2 have many carbs? If so you might be better off with a bit of full fat - I think they are going more and more against FF products because the sugar/carb content is often higher. That said, your plan might work just fine for you.
According to Dr. Bredesen's research done on preventing Alzheimers, he was OK with 12 hours between supper and breakfast with the night meal at least 3 hours before going to bed.
I keep that in mind when I only make it 13 hours.
Good luck -

I just rejoined MFP and found this group. I am 54 (feel like 34), I moved to Florida from Indiana one year ago after living in the Midwest my entire life. First time my hubs and I are "empty nesters" and while we are enjoying our move and new life it has come with a 10 pound weight gain over the last year. I am very motivated and back on track. Literally tracking my food and exercise intake. If any of you lovely ladies have struggled with weight gain (especially in your tummy, spare tire) due to the BIG "M" any words of advice or motivation would be welcomed. Thank you.3

Happy July 5th. I am sooooo glad the 4th is over. Our neighbors have been shooting fireworks every night since they were able to sell them in the county. Then the last 2 nights it has sounded like a war zone and a couple times I thought they were going to come in the windows. Our 2 fur babies have fought going out side to do their business and last evening when I was in the bedroom getting ready for bed Oscar jumped on the bed and peed over the blankets. I was so upset and he went outside fighting all the way. So had to pull everything off and do wash. Thank goodness of rubber mattress pads. This morning they must of realized it was over as they went outside with no problems. They were shooting them off until after midnight and they I woke up just before 2 to lighten and thunder and rain. I am going to take a nap after I get off work, I hope.
Karen-Virginia--I am so sorry to hear about DGS problems at camp. I pray his summer gets better.
RV Rita & Machka--HUGS
Katla--Sounds like this RV trip is working out well.
You ladies amaze me how you just keep going and going. I am taking it one day at a time.

Hi ladies! I'm always a day late and a dollar short it appears. 14 pages already. I hope everyone on this side of the pond had a great 4th of July yesterday!
Thank you, Barbie, for another month! You are awesome!
I spent yesterday studying to take my re-certification exams in Epic today. Studied all day and into the night and then I came in to work only to find out the exams got rescheduled for 7/16. One one hand, I was relieved because I get so stressed out when I have to take these exams. They are SO HARD! But on the other hand, I was really pissed since I spent the whole holiday alone and studying! (I love the fireworks and spending time with family on the 4th!) But if that is the worst thing that happens to me this week, I've got a pretty good life, right?
As for my monthly goal accountability, there is much left to be desired. In layman's terms, I failed....miserably.
June Goals
Weigh LESS on July 1st Not by much, but I'll take it.
Lymphedema arm massage daily Not as consistent as I'd like to be.
Walk or ride bicycle 4x week = (30 minutes of activity) Back in physical therapy for more work on my hip, SI joint and back. So.....working on it I guess?
Journal food and drink daily For the most part, yes!
64oz glasses water every day definitely need to work on this. My fingers are like puffy sausages today.
Be up to goal of 8000 steps by July 1 Almost to 7,000 but then had the hip/back issue rear it's ugly head again.
I'm going to use the same goals for July, since I obviously have lots of work to do.
July Goals
Weigh LESS on August 1st
Lymphedema arm massage daily
Walk or ride bicycle 4x week = (30 minutes of activity)
Log every bite and sip daily
64+ oz water every day
Consistently reach 8000 steps/day by August 1
Remove myself from water cooler gossip and stay positive
Read Beck's Diet Solution this month
Have a FANTASTIC day beautiful ladies!
