    I wear shorts 90% of my runs. I have chicken legs and they still rub. I swear its a gait, female, or hip strength thing. So i use body glide. :wink: ETA (I'm 5'5" 122) I wear Oiselle shorts.

    Its so hot, I'm hoping to find some running "panties" lol! Jk! I have some super loose long distance shorts (BOA) that are like running naked. They are awesome!

    I was nervous switching from capris to shorts for the same reason so I started with longer fitted/compression shorts. Right now I'm running in these, which I have in 3", 5", and 7" styles. The 3" sometimes give me a little chafing problems and the 7" are a little too long when it's hot, but the 5" are just about right. My plan is to replace them with similar higher quality shorts at some point, but for now they work great.

    ETA: For reference, I'm 5'2", 160-ish lbs.

    Pockets are even harder to find! The oiselle ones have pockets. Haven't tested them out yet.

    I looked at Oiselle, but I'm still a little too big for their biggest size. By next summer. :)
    Skirt Sports makes a skirt with compression shorts built in that actually don't ride up. I've tried other brands but Skirt Sports are the only ones that stay down over my thighs.

    Gypsy Runner makes great compression capris and longer shorts with deep pockets. She has all kinds of funky prints.

    @5BeautifulDays I nab my running shorts from Academy sports and outdoors. Their store brand(can't remember the name off the top of my head) comes in 5 and 7in. The 5in have a single zipper pocket, the 7in have 2 regularly cut side pockets. they are dri fit but not compression.

    Compression only, for me--I must control the jiggle! That said, I've never shopped at Academy sports, but I can see they could be a great resource for my 13 year old cheerleader. That girl burns through active wear like you wouldn't believe.

    ETA: I hadn't thought about gait being part of the issue with shorts, @Elise4270 , but that makes sense.

    @MegaMooseEsq I'll have to try those when I get a little smaller. I'm 5'5"and currently weigh about 1.6 Elise4270s ;)

    @MegaMooseEsq interesting. Come summer I will have to try shorts, Ill get a couple of different types and see what happens. ATM capris are great mostly. Sadly I'm between sizes and my current ones are a bit loose in the crotch so I get a little rub right in the inner crease - I will have to use Vaseline on my long runs. anything under about 8-9k I'm ok. But the next size down are too tight across the waist band.

    I also get the jiggles, so prefer something firmer, thought I find on my longer runs I have to have the waist band across my hips and just under my tummy because otherwise its too firm and I feel nauseated and cant breathe properly. I'm now just used to my tummy jiggling. its annoying!! oh and I'm 5'3" and i think 150lb.

    oh random question - I have not yet used Vaseline. tips? Should I get body glide instead or is Vaseline ok? its just for my inside groin where I get a bit of chafe...

    @Avidkeo i don't like vaseline, it stains my clothes. so i use glide. for discrete areas, i rub a bunch of toilet paper across the top of the glide and then onto my body. some people have 2 sticks.

    Thanks for the photo - I like how you swoop the water line over. Last night when trying it on, I noticed it was super long and was debating how to minimize length or minimize bounce - so this looks to be a good way to position it.

    I hadn't realized until I started looking into the various options people have been posting how rare the 5" inseam length is - I might have to stick with the cheap Chinese brand until I save up enough for the Oiselles - those pocket jogger shorts look pretty nice, but $60 for shorts is a no-go right now.

    Seriously, one of the best things about losing weight was being able to wear shorts!! After a lifetime of being told they were unflattering and battling the inner thigh ride up I still won’t wear them for anything other than running, but for running I love my Lululemon’s with the built in knickers - it’s a bit weird at first because you almost feel naked. But lovely and cool.

    Thanks for the photo - I like how you swoop the water line over. Last night when trying it on, I noticed it was super long and was debating how to minimize length or minimize bounce - so this looks to be a good way to position it.

    I got the idea from @JessicaMcB posts of her pictures wearing hers. I have seen others tuck it behind the straps heading straight down too. I am undecided which way is best yet.

    So much to read and not enough time to respond!!

    I am glad to know I am not the only one who doesn't stay upright all the time!

    I am also slow, but if I m improving, I am good with it!

    I want to wear shorts, but struggle to find ones that work as well. After having lost 110 pounds there's loose skin to hold in place, ya know? Mostly, I wear leggings. Always compression because of the skin. I will look at some you all have mentioned.

    Mine came with a longer hose than needed and a note to cut it to desired length. :wink:

    I wear the 3" at home when I lift weights. I wore them once when running and all I could think was "my butt is hanging out... this is so obscene. I am probably scaring children"

    I'm a big fan of body glide. I used Vaseline once and didnt notice any protection. Its pricey, so beware that if you try it, it may be one of those items you cant live without.

    I got a double pack cheaper on Amazon. Good thing too. Dh used the one i had in rotation on his bits. :frowning: that ones his. I've heard chapstick works too. But havent tried it. One body glide stick last me a year or two, as long as i dont leave it in the hot car over the summer.

    They come in 5" inseam and petite?! Be still my heart!

    ETA: They only have the petites in size medium but I'm seriously considering buying them for later, and I never do that.

    Thanks for the encouragement @Teresa502 and @PastorVincent. I can definitely see that the mental game is just as tough or tougher during this whole process. Just going to try to take one day at a time and follow the plan.

    As for the shorts discussion, I prefer compression shorts. My favorite pair is actually a shorter one, not sure if they are 3 or 5" inseam but they do have pockets. They were Lucy brand but I can't find them for sale anywhere now. I recently bought one of those 2-in-1 shorts with compression under a looser short but I don't like them because the compression short is so thin material it rides up (maybe just the one I bought).

    Of the looser kind I have that I like is Oiselle Long Roga shorts. They don't ride up on me and seem to be long enough to prevent rubbing. They also have a side pocket that zips. I found some on clearance and have since bought a second pair because I like them so much.

    I use body glide some, but more so for chafing around the bra band.

    Tonight was marathon training group speedwork. We started with a 15 minute warm-up run and then the workout was an inverted ladder, with intervals of 4-3-2-1-1-2-3-4-5 minutes hard, with 2 minutes recovery between for the first four and 1 minute recovery between for the last 4. Followed by sprints and then a 10 minute cool-down. I felt tired but did okay for the most part. Had a side stitch towards the end that worked out fairly quickly but was painful for a while. I haven't had one of those in a while.
