Ok, back to my surprisingly awesome progress:
July 2018
Guestimated goal: 50 60 Km
Achieved so far: 45 Km
2. 3,95 Km
4. 2,82 Km
5. 2,83 Km
6. 3,79 Km
9. 3,61 Km
11. 4,69 Km
13. 4,45 Km
15. 5,55 Km
16. 4,18 Km
18. 3,86 Km
20. 5,29 Km

It's very slow (~7:35 per kilometre) but firstly, I'm a total noob and secondly, I'm a shorty (1,55m / 5'1") with short legs, so my step-length is ridiculously short, which makes me in the end pretty slow when based on the distance. But that doesn't matter and I'm super proud of myself! (ok, it might matter when I try to do a 5K but not when I'm alone)13 -

I'm only 10 miles in so far this month. I have really been splitting my time with swimming, biking and running for triathlon stuff.
I am super excited to meet IRL and run a race with @Elise4270 this weekend in Oklahoma!
Nervousness hasn't set in yet. It's been so hot, I think I'm brain dead. I'm just going to focus on hanging out and having Mexican food
I'm glad at least one of us isn't nervous. It has been so hot that I can't fathom to run outside and our house is under construction and can't get to the treadmill. ACK! I can't wait to hang out and eat mexican food on Sat!
Mee tooo! Mmm!
The forecast is 77 at ~7am. Looks like 85 by 10. High Sunday is 102. If this weren't a taper week, I'd be at the y on the TM! (ours is in the garage).
There was a link to someone's garmin data for that ride (and run, garmin connect course) https://www.signmeup.com/site/reg/register.aspx?fid=K02V6H7 it looked like the first half was the most hills.
Ummmmmm, mexican food.
Anyway, I did see the map for those hills. Pretty close to some of the elevation I did last weekend, so I am thinking it won't be too awful. My only plan is to finish and not die.7 -
9 km Trail run in North West Riverbank Hills yesterday. Not sure if it was the heat - humid-ex, poor fueling, dehydration or just heavy legs from the mountain run but I ran out of gas at the 6km mark and had to do a walk run from that point back to the start. Never did get into a good run pace, it stills counts as a run just not a good one. The trails were in pretty good shape which made it frustrating.

@missevil You're welcome! He's from a town not far from me. If you are interested in humor and general running info he has books on amazon that also have running plans in them, though you can also find them free online. He has a signature race in his hometown (and others) and I ran it this year. I was excited to meet him, but alas, weather kept him from coming in. There's always next year right?!6

Is there a site or something which will convert pace from km to miles, for us metric-impaired Americans? I did the math myself and got 12:13, is that correct?
If it is correct, that's a quite respectable pace for a short female noob running 5k! My first 5k was 38 minutes or something. Your pace will improve gradually as your conditioning improves, but there are several female runners here who run 12 minute miles. Great job finding a pace that feels comfortable!6 -

Yes, it's a completely acceptable pace for running for fitness or for fun!1 -

7/2 = 3 dreadmill miles and 30 minutes strength training
7/3 = 6 miles
7/4 = 5 miles
7/5 = 3 miles
7/6 = 12 miles
7/7 = rest day
7/8 = 7 miles
7/9 = 3 miles & 30 minutes ST
7/10 = sick day
7/11 = 10.5 miles
7/12 = 3 miles
7/13 = 8 miles
7/14 = rest day
7/15 = 10 miles
7/16 = 30 minutes yoga at home
7/17 = 6 miles
7/18 = 9 miles
7/19 = 3 miles
7/20 = 13 miles
I have been trying (and failing) to finish the Strava July 1/2 marathon challenge every Friday this month. I FINALLY got it done this morning. It was slow and hot but I finished because ...
1) I set my watch to give me a 1 minute walk break every 0.5 mile. This slowed me down but I wouldn’t have been able to finish without dying of heat stroke if I didn’t take those walk breaks.
2) I froze my water bottle last night.
3) I planned my route around water fountains and a gas station that lets me get free ice and stand in their walk-in beer cooler to cool down.
4) Just when I was ready to give up (at mile 10 again), an amazing police officer drove by me in a golf cart with several coolers in the back. The heat (high of 106 predicted today) and humidity (91% when I started) are so bad that they are handing out cold water bottles and ice to people on the trail.
111.5/125 goal July miles17 -

That is always my short term goal... my long-term goal is, when it's my time to go, to vapor lock about 20 miles out on a single track trail and become a mossy mound to provide a place of respite for a weary runner...10 -

Fellow shortie runner with little legs over here! Finding the right pace for YOU is like finding a magical sweet spot with running. I wasn’t able to successfully train for longer distances until I discovered it.

When I entered today's workout into Garmin I was apparently VERY ambitious. I was scheduled for speed work, 5 sets of 2 minutes in zone 4 and 2 minutes in zone 1. Well... when I set it up I entered 2 miles in zone 4 and 2 minutes recovery. I started my first 2 minutes and looked down to see how much longer I had left and it said 1.89 instead of time. I momentarily freaked out thinking I didn't have time to do 2 miles x 5. Then I realized my error. I had to watch my time and manually change to recovery. LOL5 -
Ran a quick mile as a warm-up before lifting. I'm trying to use these short runs to focus on form, not that I know too much about what I should be doing yet. Lifting was fun - last week I maxed out my adjustable dumbbells on 1h rows so this week the plan was to finally switch to the plates I got on Craig's List a few weeks ago. I wasn't sure the loadable dumbbell handle I ordered would get here on time so I did some research and learned about pinch-grip rows, which is basically just lifting a solid plate while holding it with your fingers.
The timing worked out great since the dumbbells I was using maxed out at 24 lbs and conveniently enough, I have 25 pound plates. Pinch-grip was kind of crazy hard actually, but it felt good to tire out my arms and back for a change. I've maxed out on dumbbell bench press too so have just been adding reps at 48 pounds. I'd meant to upgrade to working with a trainer to start barbell lifts by now, but running has been taking up the bulk of my energy these days so that's been on hold.

Skies are greenish blue to the NW but that cloud won't pass directly overhead.

Humidity was still down this morning compared to what it normally is, and so I managed to fit in another quicker-paced run without completely dying. Tomorrow should be a relatively quick one as well as I do a much shorter six-mile loop to round off the week with the local running group.

Running challenge
1 July: 5.30 at 5:09 pace (race pace)
2 July: yoga
3 July: 7.01 at 5:45 pace
4 July: yoga
5 July: 12.66 at 5:50 pace (“unproductive" according to Garmin)
6 July: rest
7 July: yoga
8 July: 15.2 at 6:01 (slow and steady)
9 July: yoga
10 July: 6.0 at 6:02 pace (probably faster but I had a child on a bike in tow who kept needing a push - I certainly had to work harder) plus another 1.8km at about the same pace with similar issues getting the younger daughter to kindy.
11 July: yoga
12 July: 10.71 at 5:25 pace - when you’re short on time but you want to go long, you gotta go fast.
13 July: rest and pizza (and more pizza)
14 July: sneaky 6.7km to undo some of last night’s pizza damage followed by yoga. Great way to start a Saturday.
15 July: 16.51 at 5:55 pace. Building up to the Mt Maunganui Half on August 25.
16 July: yoga
17 July: 5.79 at 6:02, plus 3.9 at a similar pace dropping children off at kindy and so on.
18 July: 7.19 at 5:39 and yoga as well
19 July: 10.38 at 5:50 pace.
20 July: 7.39 at 5:39 pace. Would have run longer as I felt great and the weather was perfect, however, work called…
21 July: 6.84 at 5:50 pace. When I woke I could tell from the birdsong that it was a fabulous morning so I leapt up and headed out. Cool, clear, calm. Another perfect running day. So glad I did as by mid morning the clouds had rolled in and it’s reverted to being a grey winter’s day. Also yoga.
