Hello, ladies, just getting this started, albeit in inferior fashion to Barbie's. Please post how you did on your July goals, what your August goals will be, and let the discussion begin!
Regards,
Lisa in AR (who fervently hopes Barbie will be able to take this back over next month!)

Thanks Lisa-
Sure hoping Barbie is ok love her bunches..and of course love you all XOXO2 -

I tried to do the same but had trouble finding where you set up the link so I changed my page to something else so others would not be confused.
Met my goals for July
Down 5 pounds
August goals:
Continue to eat a high fiber diet
Continue to swim, Zumba 2 to 4 times a week
Take a daily mile walk
Continue to work on getting 7-8 hours of sleep
Appreciate something beautiful everyday
Try to do something kind for another and for myself everyday

Thanks for stepping in Lisa!
Barbie I hope you are feeling better soon!
I posted in the July thread my results, but Iβll briefly mention them again. I did close all my rings each day and earned my special badge for July. I did not maintain my weight, I actually lost 1 pound.
My goals for August will be the same. Close the rings each day on my watch and earn Augustβs badge and maintain my weight, or even gain 2-3 lbs.

Thank you Lisa and Margaret for stepping up and getting the new thread started. I woke up in the middle of the night and remembered that I didn't start the new thread and wondered if anyone else would do it or everyone would wait for me.
Thank you all for your concern. You all mean so much to me.
Barbie
Resolutions for July:
*keep doing what's been working--log food and exercise, walk, dance, ride the exercise bike, work in the yard, spend time with hubby, drink water
My word for 2018 is "tenacity".
Resolutions for August
*Do what's necessary to deal with back pain that came on suddenly
*Act the way I want to feel

hugs for Barbie
Thanks to Lisa and Margaret for stepping in!
I loved July, I hit a lot of my goals, I exercised almost every day, kept my eating out spending remarkably low (for me) and didn't play that silly puzzle game on my phone even once..... I can leave that game out of my life!!!!
August goals:
--enjoy travel with DH and our b-day visit to Rachel in South Africa (travel makes me anxious)
--exercise every day or close to it
--stay mindful of thinking positive in spite of anxiety or backward thinking
--bullet journal for daily tracking, this helps with procrastination of onerous tasks
Here's to a productive and healthy August, NYKAREN6 -
Meg--Sorry to hear about your infection, hope you are better soon.
Lisa-Thank you for stepping up and getting us started for the new month.
Barbie--Praying you feel better soon. Back pain is nojoke and I know it has to take it's own time. Please take care of you
.
Wish I could say July was a positive month, but not true. I lost and gained the same 5-7 pounds all month. But new month and new start. One day at a time.
Blessings, Vicki GI NE6 -
Thank you Lisa!
Glad you just forgot, Barbie!
My goal for August is just to continue to keep a few ounces under maintenance. That means log, log, log.
My word for 2018 is EMBRACE.
I am sooooooo impatient to get on with this move and can't stand the snail's pace the solicitors are working. I would like to chill a little and not get myself worked up.
I will carry on sorting boxes of writing etc. A little every day.
In the short term I need to get in touch with my cancer friend and my ligament friend and pay them a visit.
My visitors have left. It all went very well. DH even came out into the garden to join us for a cup of tea when we got back from the pub. I was nervous, but it all turned out ok. They stuck to soda water. I even managed to offload a Jones sewing machine cast iron base that has been sitting in the garden sInce we moved here. They crammed it into their boot/ trunk! Years ago I used it as a garden table, then it was a dressing table for years.
Now to relax. Fish soup for dinner. Nice and easy.
Oooooffff!

- Stay on track logging food
- Log food ahead of meals to be mindful of what I'm eating

Thanks, Lisa. I was thinking that barbie had some certain privilege which allowed her to make a new thread for this site. That was very nice of you to do.
barbie - so glad to hear that it was just that you forgot and not something much more serious. If you hadn't checked in yet, I would have been officially worried.

Yay, Barbie! I was a little worried about you, too... but knew you'd understand if we went ahead and got things going.
Lisa1 -
Barbie - I hope you feel better really soon!
Lisa- thanks for getting us started!
Margaret - thanks for your effort as well!
Wendy - I decided to hold off on my five-day fast. Too much going on here with special events and not so special events! I'm going to wait till we go back to Arizona. There I have a lot of control over daily activities. Thanks for the information on supplements.
Update on my daughter, she will be having surgery in the near future. It will be done by a robot. Not sure how that works! She will have five incisions in her abdomen. That's as much as I know! Update on my daughter-in-law, she will also be having surgery. They wanted to do a complete hysterectomy but she just had major surgery where they fastened everything in place on her insides. So they are going to do something on the inside instead of removal. Then while that will be going on my husband will be up north farming with his brother for five weeks. I will be helping at the farm as well as helping my girls when needed. I am very glad that we are retired so that we can be of help to other family members during their time of need.
July goals I don't even remember what they were! All I know is that my clothes still fit! I also swing my kettle bell 6 to 7 days a week. I can see my muscles are looking very nice. And I have very little fat on my body. The squats that I do with my kettle bell are giving me a very nice butt lift. The swings that I do with my kettle bell have toned my body from head to toe. The kettle bell along with eating a keto diet which is a fat burning diet has eliminated all the fat from my stomach. Yes ladies it is possible at our age to not have stomach rolls! Or a muffin top!
August goals
1. Eat a keto diet when not at a special event.
2. Kettle bell workout 6 to 7 days a week.
3. Enjoy time with family and friends.
Word for the month-gratitude
Have a great day everyone!

Barbie we all love you and, as you can see, we are lost without you. You have been such a wonderful and inspirational role model for us for so long. We tru!y appreciate your time and dedication. Biggest big hug
I'm MESSING around with these last few pounds, up a couple down a couple, ultimately getting no where. It ends today. A new month a new start, I've got this.
My word for this year is recommitment, and I'm claiming it this morning.

Barbie- so glad your ok,was really worried.
Mary- I had a robotic hysterectomy ,and the Dr still does the surgery but uses his fingers to work the machine, all I know is the dopes knew I had mitral valve prolapse and the tilted me backwards and my heart went haywire.i was out so I knew none of this until I woke up in recovery with this little Indian Dr looking at me saying you gave us quite a scare...lol6 -
Thanks Lisa for starting up this month. Barbie, no worries about not being as prompt as you'd like, you have a lot going on!π. Take care of you! Hugs!
Hmm August already??
I was up at 6:30 am took a shower, helped husband, I really have more energy than I have had in a long time! We are simply, took our meds, and now I have finished paying bills. This morning I drive to take husband to doctors at 9:45am, mail some Japanese candy to Navy son, and will come home. Maybe have that bean soup I made yesterday for lunch. It is misty this morning, so a great time to pull weeds!
Yeah!
Oh I'm back up to 235.8 but my quick 3 lb loss was due to just not eating. I am still eating small portions like I am a giant eating small human food! Using small plates and little sauce bowls! I tower over the good spying it!!!
Have a great day y'all!

hi everyone, I am new to this board, but feel like I would benefit from some sort of public accountability, so here I am. I joined MFP in Jan of 2014 after my mother's death. I had been her sole caregiver during years of decline with alzheimers and at that time I weighed 261 lbs. My life was completely out of balance I was in constant pain. During this time, I found out I had hypothyroidism and was put on synthetic replacement which helped a little with the pain and with my constant coughing and trouble with breathing and talking. Next, I learned I was diabetic. I decided to get serious about my weight loss. I lost more than 50 lbs. I was down to 205 lbs and feeling super proud, I was able to wear clothes from the regular women's dept. I was also in a serious exercise regime and was feeling fit enough to hike in Yellowstone and Badlands national park. It was going pretty well. I maintained there for quite a while and then I went to Africa and I came home really sick. The illness I had resolved itself in a few months, but during the process I found out I have fatty liver disease and my liver is 30% dead. And I just plain got mad. I quit exercising, I started eating in an out of control way. I now weigh 226 pounds and I feel awful all the time. Since I have basically been living on carbs, my diabetic numbers are a disaster. I am pretty depressed about the diagnosis and stay in my house all the time except for work, I rarely leave my couch. So even though I am still 36 lbs less than I did at the beginning of my journey, I look and feel heavier and worse than I did then. The muscle mass has just deteriorated to sheer fat.
Now, my daughter is planning her wedding. I want to feel and look good on her day, so I have recommitted myself to my journey. My goals for August:
*strictly reduce carbs to get my diabetic numbers back to a reasonable level
*lose 3-5 lbs
*use the exercise bike and elliptical daily upping to two miles on each daily by the end of the month
*confess my ongoing depression to my doctor
*try to do something active outside the house at least weekly
thanks for listening! I am making a commitment to myself that I will weigh 199lbs or less by the time my daughter gets married in May. I know I can do this!21 -
Good for you! I am restarting today and am
Only aiming for 10 lbs to start and then we will see from there. From yo yo ing experience I find it easier to start with small goals. Keep it up!8 -
Just checking in. Itβs been a rough couple of days.

Welcome dandl1986 where you from? and what would you like to be called? We are a chatty and supportive group. There are many success stories on this thread, they got there by managing their food and exercise one little choice at a time, CICO and moving every day. Having a goal date like your daughter's wedding is excellent but it is the moment to moment that really really matters, keep on checking in with us, lots of wisdoma and support here.

If given the right nutrition the liver can re generate. It it one of few organs that can. Your right the carb diet is putting your health at risk. This is part of why I went on my high fiber next to nothing sugar and no refined grains diet. I was in insulin resistance territory. My blood pressure was 135/85. After two month it is now 117/75. I lost 17 pounds. My waist went from 38 inches to 35, BMI from 29 down to 26.75. I had low HDL too. I have not had that tested yet. I will do it after 6 months of this eating plan.
Your depression may also be partially due to your diet and lack of exercise, too.
You have a great start you identified the problem. Please come back to get support here. This is a great bunch of ladies.
You had tough years with your mom. It is time to take care of you!

Ok, I have now driven on base! Yeah me! For those that don't know, that is a big deal for me, driving. Learned to drive because my husband had a liver transplant back in 2014!
Since moving to Whidbey island, I had yet to get behind the wheel. Amazing what stress, and husband in hospital can do for a gal's perspective huh?!! I have driven so much these past view days! Even driving into the garage from our steep declining driveway! I am proud of myself!
Everyone have a great day, newcomers welcome!
