I did run today. I wasn't sure if I would since I had anesthesia for a colonoscopy yesterday, but I felt good this morning and decided I would give it a go. I was pretty slow, but after missing my runs the last two days and spending all day yesterday in a hospital bed hooked up to an IV it felt really good just to get out there. My legs felt pretty heavy for mile one, but mile two was a little better. Then mile three I started getting kind of tired and it was my slowest mile. But overall it was a nice run. I missed the cooler temperatures early in the week and it was already hot today. But the humidity and the dewpoint weren't brutal so it was all right.

Not doing so well. Had a bad reaction to the new meds over the weekend and have been recovering ever since. Switched back to old meds. Getting better little by little but damn am I exhausted. Suffice to say I think this month is borked.
Still rooting for all of you though. Go you!17 -
Ya. You can pay them back 8! Maybe next year. And ya know, we still need Alaska. Bet that's some wicked running. I dont wanna go if bears are involved. I can "run" a volcano with no worries. But will pass on the bears.

You think that's a thing . . . I booked my hotel at Boston this year with the Marathon Tours premium package, which got me on their mailing list. Turns out Marathon Tours markets to world-traveler marathon runners. Lots of scenic destinations, and marketing push for people who want to run all 6 Abbot World Majors or run a marathon on all 7 continents. That's, um, out of my league financially and out of my comfort zone travel-wise.1 -

The good news is, 24 hours out from my half, I feel great - no more chills and aches, and sufficient energy to run albeit slowly. Bad news, my throat is so sore it hurts to breathe. My plan is to assess how I feel at registration this afternoon, and if it's not any better, I'll downgrade to the 10k. Worst case scenario, I'll be a DNS and cheer my friend on (silently) and enjoy a weekend away!16

Even before I started looking at races it felt like I was spending money left and right - shoes, long sleeve shirts, short sleeve shirts, bras, shorts, shorter shorts, longer shorts, capris, buffs, hat, sunscreen (SO MUCH SUNSCREEN), socks, shoelaces... I guess some people already have workout clothes, but not me! I started in head-to-toe cotton and had to replace everything piece by piece.4 -
An easy-paced run for 9 miles this morning before meeting up with the group for another 5. This run also saw the return of another runner who has suffered various injuries for most of the year. She started off the year with an Achilles heel issue which kept her from running for several months. Then after returning, she broke her toe. After that had healed and she returned again, she then felt a sharp pain in the arch of her foot that stopped her from running for several more months. Given this past performance, I can only guess that she'll probably be in crutches by Monday.

Such beautiful weather for an after-work run today with temps in the mid 70s and finally lower humidity. Work has ramped up a lot this week so it felt good to get out and enjoy a pretty easy run.
Tomorrow is a planned rest day and Saturday will be just a short shake-out run before my 18-mile race on Sunday. Feeling some major butterflies about that one.

I can not deal with how expensive a lot of running gear is! I've managed to find acceptable cheaper options on Amazon mostly and thank you again for the tip on UA socks, they've been great for shorter runs, although I've had to order more recently because the low cut slipped down on one of my recent long runs and I didn't notice until I was in blister land (also, it is really hard to find women's socks that aren't super low cut - WTF?). I'm starting to think about winter running because in Minnesota winter can happen at any time after August, and I'm going to have to replace pretty much everything. Eek...3 -

Or when your podiatrist tells you you should have three pairs of shoes in rotation... At $220 or thereabouts a pair (stupid wide feet), plus fancy socks (refer previous discussion), and that's the very basics. I've just spent a small fortune on an event I may not even run (stupid cold!).3 -

Oh thank god! Seriously I thought I was the only woman in the world who hates those no-show socks with a passion. I can just about get on with the low cut ones on shorter runs. But I'm completely paranoid about the whole slipping down into my shoe and giving me a blister thing.
And as for the spending money on running.... I'll just leave this here (I think it was @PastorVincent who posted this originally).

The weekend weather doesn’t look so good, but today the sun was shining so a short run before lunch. Decided to run a different way to change things up, but ended up taking a road that I’ve run on before. It looked nice and shady as trees on both sides provided a nice canopy. Not sure if I’ll run tomorrow, I’ll likely take a rest day as it looks like rain all day and I have been doing well the last few days.

5k on the Greenline. Trying for a tempo run, but pace is a moving target since the temperature and humidity have such a powerful effect on my speed. Lately "easy" on roads has meant about 11 minute miles, and my PR pace for 5k was 8:50 or something, in much cooler weather. So I figured tempo in current weather would be less than 10 and more than 9. Went out too fast, 1st mile was 8:37, got too hot and had to walk a little, ended up at 9:40 overall including the walking, close enough. It was less humid today but the sun was very hot at noon. Kind of nice being sub 30 minutes even with a walk break. Every run is a learning experience!
Tomorrow our REI has its grand opening. Husband and I are planning on going down there at the crack of dawn to try for a free $100 gift card. There's supposed to be a big do with food and drink vendors, classes, and demos. Somehow we have to juggle this with feeding horses for my mom who is out of town - the horses also expect to be fed at the crack of dawn and are an hour's drive away.6
