This thread is da bomb-- I think it is good to kind of realize what we need to do to lose or maintain with our weight loss journey. I have learned with age to NOT let everyone know what I do such as exercise or a food journey because sometimes it can be looked down on- but I am learning not to CARE what others think as long as it is working form. heeheehee3

In celebration tho I decided that I needed to start wearing my stash of bikinis (hey summer skier is my name!) so yesterday I started with this little #. Yeah - there are quite a few "age" related things which I can point out about my body but overall it's nice to be able to get my 15 minutes of private sunbathing in and not feel like a whale. Just proof that us older gals CAN DO IT!!!!! And no - I probably would not wear this out in public but I feel ok posting it to our little group. I love how supportive everyone is here. Logging and weighing frequently and checking out menus. Yup - I am exactly with you. Maybe because of our age and experience we know what works for us best!

ladies you girls are excellent. I can't believe it but I finally burst out of my plateau. I lost 1.3 this week- yay to losing again- when we are older sometimes it may take a little longer to lose or break though a plateau.7

All good in my world. Hanging in with maintenance, almost 4 years now (3 yrs 8 mo to be exact, but who's counting, ha, ha. I am for sure.) Cheers!9

After coming here to follow all of you I thought I’d better actually say hi.
I’m 55. Only 5’2”. Being short has advantages until it comes to calories 😂. I had been down to 125 and felt better than I have for years! Had gallbladder surgery 2 years ago and some heart issues. Started gaining. Got up to 155 following the eat more to weigh less. Struggled to get back to 140ish. I know I would feel better around 130ish. I’m a Fitbit fanatic. Frustrated trying to figure out what will actually work for me.11 -
I am 62. Most of my life I haven’t been heavy. Because of some medical illnesses, I have been about 30 lbs overweight twice. The first time was about 10 years ago and this time, pre May. Since the middle of May to now, October 2, I have lost around 20 pounds, with little exercising. I have found Keto while watching calories, to be extremely helpful. As of now, I should be at my ideal weight in about 2 months.8

Hi all! I am 56 and I have lost 63 lbs so far. I lost most of those doing Weight watchers but having been at roughly the same weight for about a year, I decided to try MFP. Wow! What a difference! My weight is coming off again and I am confident if I stay eithin my nutrition guidelines and my exercise attendance goals, I will get to the lowest weight I have been since middle school likely before the new year. We can do this!!10

Still here, still around 50 pounds down from peak/obese weight, heading into year 3 of maintenance at age 62 (63 next month), 5'5", weight in the 130s. Weather's still decent-ish here, so still rowing 4x a week on water, going to spin class 2x, and in general having fun.
Life is good!8 -
So nice to hear from all the new people and have updates from those who've been around this thread for a long time. I'm turning 69 years old this month and I'm so grateful that I lost close to 50 lbs. Maintenance has been good though I still have to log and weigh food. I so suck at guesstimating portion sizes. My portions tend to get bigger and bigger as time goes by. Have to keep that in check and also because I want all the food all the time.4

What a great thread! I’m 62 and am down 53 pounds from my highest weight, 43 down since joining here in January. When I hit 130 last week, I decided to maintain a while. It’s only been a few days but that included a weekend getaway. I logged loosely while away and didn’t lose any ground at all. I’m a bit nervous about maintenance, and I’ll continue logging because I know myself and need (at least for the time being) the structure and accountability. I’ve made some good habits these last 9 months, definitely, but I feel I’m not ready to stop logging.5

they should call that eat more to weigh more I think. LOL.. Welcome. And you will figure it out. Us shorties need to stick together.3 -
I am almost 64 and I have lost 30 lbs since July 2018. I am 22 years post menopausal. I also have fibromyalgia. You are right - I cannot exercise with the intensity I did when I was younger, and I have had to get used to listening to my body and doing what I can. Some days that is an hour on my treadmill, sometimes it's only a half hour. I have totally overhauled the way my husband and I eat, and doing it together has made it much easier. Because of my age, I feel like I must make this new way of eating stick.6

What healthy habits are you doing/working on?0
-
hello
dwebbqt- the healthy habits that I am working on and will continue to do is to drink my water, to get in at least 10,000 steps each day(love my fitbit) more ifpossible, keep stress down as much as is possible for me and most of all- LOG my food- without logging I just can not do it!!!!!- I even prelog which helps me decide how I want to (spend) my calories. As I have stated before some folks sometimes may it seem weird that I log- but for me- it is a must- I just smile politely and come to MFP each day6 -
What healthy habits are you doing/working on?
Edited to clarify: NEAT—Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis.

/workinonit1956 it was meant for everyone 😁
I too love being “inefficient” while doing housework. I’m a Fitbit lover too. Water is a must for me. Logging too. I log EVERYTHING!
What I can add to the suggestions so far is outside time. I’m lucky enough to have a dog to help me get this in.

Hi All! ✋🏻
Been awhile since I’ve checked in. Another shortie here 5’2” and post menopausal at 53. I’m down 26lbs from my highest. Still have a ways to go but the weight is going! I don’t have a set exercise routine, like many others I just try to move more throughout the day. My hubby has jumped on the MFP bandwagon so it has become much easier now that I don’t have to watch him pig out in the evenings! He finally understands how few calories us shorties get!
Had a NSV today...one of my coworkers noticed that I have lost weight! I was wondering how much I would have to lose before anyone noticed 😂. Nice to hear from everyone. I am also looking for new MFP friends, several of those I started with have not logged in for months.6 -

Consistency works for me. I consistently hit the gym 3 days a week; I block my gym schedule in on my appointment calendar and schedule other appointment around those gym times/dates. Drink a ton of water. Walk everywhere I can; move, move, move. Wear my Fitbit 24/7 unless showering or swimming. Love that thing. Clock 20,000+ steps per day no matter what (for me that translates into 8 to 9 miles).
One major habit I've formed is not just logging on MFP but keeping a food, fitness, & health personal journal where I jot down notes, recipes, track my sleep (which I used to have a problem with in the past). I find it very useful to refer back to when I need some history on weight loss/gain, health/sleep issues, etc.4 -

I keep reading about journaling, but have never really tried it like you suggest. I kept a running journal for a couple months. It was helpful thinking back on it, maybe I should give it a try! I’ll have to look into a journal app, can’t read my own writing half the time 😂2 -

I don't do keto, I count calories, stay within my daily allowance, and eat whatever I want using portion control. But since you asked for any thoughts on it, here's mine.
I prefer a more balanced split of protein, fat, & carbs. I tried doing lower carbs but found I was out of energy too frequently. Once I added some carbs back in I was more energized. You have to find what works for you. Sad to say there are no "miracle" diets. It took me 15 months to lose 50ish lbs & in maintenance now almost 4 years. PS. I'm turning 69 this month.
The best diet is the one you can live with for the rest of your life.
