@biketheworld & @juliet3455 Thanks for the information. I'm all for feeling less drained at the end of a long run. I know I will have to play around with the run/walk ratio and see what works best for me. I imagine it will change as I run more and get more fit. I do think it will help with my mental confidence to do longer runs and survive. Being older (59) I am hoping it will help reduce injuries too.

@Avidkeo I love your view this morning. Even with a blowing gale, it's beautiful. I, too, hate getting out and running, or doing anything else, in the rain and wind. I hope it calmed down a little and you were able to get your run in.2

Happy birthday to @eponine1984 and @workaholic_nurse ! And to the rest of the September babies.3

My number one goal is to get rid of the damned shin splints.... So walking for me!8
-
Good thing it is almost fall. I mean I just walked to the mailbox at the end of my driveway and lost 5 pounds in water weight from sweat. Yep, can really feel that fall weather in the air...8

Unplanned rest day to start off the month, but I rearranged my long runs a little bit so that my run tomorrow doesn't require a pick-up (husband going out of town) and it worked out to get me another two miles of the TC marathon route in, so that's nice. Man, a few months of (ETA: mostly) clean living and I get knocked on my *kitten* for a day just because I drank a half dozen hard ciders and a bottle of wine...7

9/1 16.7 miles
Terrible long run this morning. I had this great idea that I would run towards my friend's house and she would run towards mine (we live 17.5 miles away). We'd meet in the middle and run back to her house. Fun right? I set out at 7am. Mistake 1, should have headed out by 6 or 6:30. I put 50oz of water/powerade in my hydration pack and it was heavy and it was hot and humid. Well, it felt decent at first, but after the first hour of running SLOW I was dying. I made it to 10 miles and I had to start walking. I "found" my friend at 10.5 miles and we started running really slow and I had to keep taking walk breaks. My heart rate was so high and I was sweating so much. My socks were soaked by 10 miles! We ended up walking most of the last 6.7 miles with a few run breaks - lol
By the time I got home (hubby picked me up) I was a wreck. Just standing made me dizzy and out of breath. I had to sit in the shower just to finish my shower! I think my electrolytes were messed up and I had a bit of heatstroke. I think I need to look into salt tablets for these hot/humid runs. After a short nap and some salty soup I felt much better.
I was so disappointed because my last 2 long runs went great. Oh well. There's always next week to try and improve I'm going to repeat this weeks training so it's going to mess up my goal for the month.

Trying the ticker. Let's see if this works.
First try didn't work. Second one did. BTW, is there no way to delete a post once you saved it? I tried to delete the above fail, but couldn't figure out how.3 -
@sarahthes - what a beautiful run!
These came in yesterday's mail - never heard of these socks until some of you recommended them. Purchased one of 3 different "varieties." I figure I'll try them out and order more of my favorite.

Nope, you can edit for up to an hour, but not delete.2 -

Well then, guess we'd better review and re-review before hitting that post button. At least we can correct a typo. Hopefully I won't ever post something on here I wish I hadn't.2 -

@quilteryoyo That's where the edit button comes in handy. Delete all the material and insert a emoji then save it.
Of course there's always one of us who might be online and catch it (quote function) and torture you with it - in good humor that is.2 -
Whew intense run! So it didn't rain, but boy did it blow! The first 2k was OK despite being mostly uphill. Then mostly flat for 2k and i thought the wind would be worse cause its on the harbour head
Taken at 3k mark and first turn around point.
Then it's flat for a km then downhill for another km. The remain 5k is mostly flat. I had a cup of water waiting for me at 6km, trying to drink from a cup while running is hard lol. It was feeling really good until the beginning of the 9km when I ended up with a really strong side wind. I had to hold my hat it was that strong. But I powered through and did my 3rd fastest time, 58.36. Yay. Walked to cool down and did a lot of stretches and rolling on my calves, followed by a cross fibre massage that annoying tendon.
The tendon was a bit sore, especially with the cross wind, but settled really quickly with the stretches and massage.
Happy with the shoes. Now I just want to vegetate lol13 -
Happy birthday @workaholic_nurse !
Yesterday was a lifting day. I'm pleased to finally be back to deadlifting my own weight again - it's been a long slow climb back from docs saying I shouldn't lift with my legs at all. Also a little pleased that my weight is lower than the last time I was lifting my weight. But I expected legs to feel tired today as a result. It honestly wasn't bad, though. I still like my Altra timps, this was my first long run in them. Not a long run for most here, but a PR for running distance for me! Was planning to run 10k on trails, finished and decided to keep going to 6.55 miles just so I could say we did a quarter marathon. Then our usual two mile walk.
It has rained the last few days, which means that now, not only is it sweltering hot and humid, the ground is mucky. The timps have some reviews which say they aren't great in mud, but they seemed more than fine to me. We raced two deer through the woods for a while, which was fun, and then a bunny got onto the trail in front of us and just kept hopping down the trail. I guess this was our day to run versus the animals!
After running I stopped off at the ladies and a wide-eyed little girl asked me, "Is that sweat?" Yes. Yes, little darlin, it is. To be fair to her I looked like I had just jumped in a pool. Love this humidity! The little girl's mother said she would only run six miles if something was chasing her. I said, well, something is chasing me, I'm running from diabetes!11 -
I'm a bit late to the party. I'm in for 70 miles this month. Today was the first day I didn't cry trying to straighten my knee since I fell on my trail race last week. I should be able to start running again tomorrow.
In other news, Skip had her first COLLEGE! XC meet on Friday night. She wasn't happy with her time 24:26, but she looked good and you all know I cried when she crossed the finish line. She was 3rd fastest in her school of 7 and we learned DAMN those college girls can run. On an extra happy note, after the meet she came home with me for the weekend.

Any recommendations for a hand-held water bottle? I've never run with one but as my runs are getting longer I'm thinking it would be good to give it a go. Plus I super don't love all the disposable cups at races. I was looking at this one, but $21 for a water bottle makes me sad. ETA: This also looks interesting, but maybe too small? Second edit: This seems cool, but maybe awkward with high-waisted compression shorts? Maybe a belt instead?0
