Machka - how thrilling that your DH is doing so well bicycling! And you back to running - you both will be up to speed for spring and summer activities.
Barbara S Oregon Coast - Centurylink put in fiber several years ago so we have fairly high speed internet. It's lots cheaper than satellite, we actually get better choices of programs we want to watch on Sling.
The "deck guys" are here right now and will get the basics done and finish up tomorrow. Nice to kick back and watch the "kids" do the work, lol.

Rebecca: We don’t get weather reported specifically for our little town, either. I have a weather app and get my information from there. Local TV news is based in Portland & reports Portland weather unless there is some unusual weather in a smaller town. That said, I firmly believe that Island weather is its own thing and not like mainland weather. :ohwell:
DS, DDIL & the baby left yesterday to head home. It was a grand visit. I drove them to the airport and came home. We’ve made plans to visit DSIL in eastern Oregon soon. We’ll be traveling in the RV. We’re planning to be there in time to go to an event in Boise called Art in the Park. I’ve been once before and had a lovely time looking at craft items, sculptures and other handmade items.

Indeed! I think we have our own micro climate. Even though Everett is even with Oak Harbor, our temperature is never as hot. We have the water around us as an insulating thing. It keeps our temps cool in the summer, and in the winter we aren't as cold as the mainland 👍.

So...yesterday we went and picked up the puppy!
His name is Pippin and he is an adorable active little boy. He is 10 weeks old. We were worried how he would do last nite and he slept through until 6:30. While 6:30 is way earlier than I normally wake up on a Sunday, I consider us lucky he "slept in". Yesterday was the first day in 23 that I didn't have 10K+ steps, and I went way over on calories, but I'm back at it. What a huge difference between my previous attempts and this one! In the past I would have given up and just continued eating poorly and not exercising. My DH took puppy watching duty and I was able to go to the gym for an hour. When Pippin is awake we have to keep an eye on him at all times-he is biting and chewing anything he can get his little needle teeth on! We love him madly.
Goals for September:
10K+ steps a day
Work out with weights (with trainer or by myself) 2-3 times a week
Continue tracking food
Continue working towards 30 minutes of true cardio at a time i.e. getting my heart rate up to the cardio level and keeping it there. This has been extremely difficult for me. I don't think it is my heart or lungs, it's my legs, if that makes sense!!!
Love reading all of your updates and wishing everyone a healthy September!!!

Hello all: It is a beautiful day here today, dry and sunny, not too warm or too cold. The fair is on and I am sure this weather drew a large crowd. Tomorrow is the last day. A friend is moving and she gave me two hydrangeas. They are gorgeous, just need to decide where to put them. I have wanted some for a while, just didn't get them. Doing okay on food today, stuffed green peppers for dinner. People are bringing extra produce from their gardens to church and you can take some and leave a donation that goes to the local food bank.
Rori - Flying to Denver to get to CA only makes sense if you are flying standby. DD's best friend works for United. There were no seats going from SeaTac to Orange County but first class seats available from here to Denver where they met up and then first class available Denver to Orange county so that is what they did. One time they could not get seats from Heathrow home so they flew from Edinburgh to Germany and then home. Since it is all free it doesn't matter to them exactly how they get where they are going.
Wendy - Glad you enjoyed the unicorn. He is unusual. Cream Soda is gorgeous. Hope you get him back with mane intact.
ElizabethGA - Pippin is a cutie. Glad our puppy is past the chew everything stage but she still chews all her toys to bits.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA2 -
Feeling even better today but still lying down with only short breaks for meals and computer time.3

Fell a couple feet after misjudging the fact that I was on the second step of the ladder, and not the first, and somehow, landed full weight on my right knee, the one I'm due to get replaced in December. Looks like it was hit by a baseball bat, but other than bruising and muscle strain, not much more damaged than it was, I'm pretty sure. Nonetheless, taking the day off tomorrow... Rest, ice, compression, elevation... Same old story. Got a lot done before the fall, pics tomorrow on my blog.

Sue in WA- I am a little jealous that your daughter is having such travels! Free and First Class!!!! Wow! One of these days, I would like to fly first class just once.
Elizabeth in GA- Pippin is cute! Lots of patience needed with a puppy.
Wendy- Did Cream Soda get home safely? He is beautiful like his owner.
Barbie- Rest is good!
Lisa- OH NO! I guess you are supervising tomorrow. Please rest.
Pip- So cute!
I cleaned up truck today. She was so in need of vacuuming! I only wanted to do one thing today....Go to Kohl's...well that didn't happen. Will go first thing tomorrow. Bags are packed other than toothbrush. Computer will be the last thing loaded. Bills are paid until we get back. Maybe I can get some sleep tonight, though I did get a short nap this afternoon.

HI all, particularly Machka9 and cookiecat90 as you seem to both be in my hemisphere at least. I am in Western Australia so just jumping into spring. I managed to lose 10 kilos (25 pounds) last year using this app, but fell off the wagon when our little dog had to be put to sleep. So having regained all those kilos - I am back for one last try before succumbing to weight loss surgery. I am 62, weigh 129.7 and am 165 cm tall. I hope to get down to 90 kilos - doctor say that's enough for me and would like to do it over the next 12 months if that's possible, so that's about .75k (or 1.5 pounds) per week. I am trying to eat less, eat cleaner, less carbs, more protein and exercise. Finding it a struggle but sticking to it for the moment - I could use some encouragement and motivation.

Hi Lesley - Stick with us, come and say hello every day, and you can do this. At the beginning exercise will seem hard, but it will get easier. One trick is to concentrate on developing good habits, one at a time. Trying to do it all at once and being too ambitious often doesn't work, but we can all make one better choice a day which will build up in the long run.
I started with quite small amounts of exercise, but it gradually increased. It's best if you schedule a time of day when you always do something, even if it's walking on the spot to a video. I do my exercise after breakfast and usually fit in a bonus session after a light lunch. It's the habit that counts. I used to loathe exercise, but now I do it automatically.
With the food, you will have to figure out what your triggers are and find a way round them. Do you have a snack cupboard you could clear out and give away? Do you always say yes to people offering you cake? Do you eat a lot of takeaways because you are too tired to cook? Are you a secret eater, like I used to be? Only you will know.
I think going hell for leather with a "diet" doesn't work, as you end up feeling deprived and rebelling. You still need to enjoy your food. You can work out some strategies for your main triggers.
At the moment you probably feel a bit overwhelmed with the task, but you don't have to do it all at once and you don't have to be perfect. Changing a lifestyle is hard and takes a long time, but it can be done. We all slip up, back slide etc etc. The important thing is not to give up and not to expect perfection. It took me 18 months to lose 57 lbs. But it's gone and it's stayed gone.
We can be of help to you if you let us. Tell us your struggles and maybe we can make a helpful suggestion. We've been there, you are not alone.

Actually, was very pleasantly surprised this morning... Iced my knee all evening (on 15 minutes, off 15 minutes), kept it up during and after dinner, then propped my knees over pillows last night, took anti-inflammatories, and taped it with FlexTape before bed... The left one was taken about three hours after the fall--and the right one is this morning. Seriously. I would have bet last night when I went to bed that I wouldn't be able to set weight on it at ALL this morning, and it's honestly just a little bit ouchier than usual. Am incredibly fortunate. Could have been so much worse.
Love y'all,
Lisa15 -
OUCH Lisa I am glad you can see improvement over night, but still, ouch!
Heather Insightful, practical advice.
Yesterday I set out to complete a 2.5 hour mandatory training course via computer. It was onerous, with a boring speaker, had to constantly click to next slide, and take quizzes. My colleagues warned me how horrible it was gonna be, basically work place safety, harrassment, code of ethics training. Well, first successful step, I didn't procrastinate starting it, Second successful step, I placed myself in the kitchen with little tasks to complete while it was running---this worked for me! I made hummus and bone broth and a delicious lunch and pineapple upside down cake and cleaned up in the kitchen while the program was running. I even passed most of the quizzes! Typically I get scared of computer programs, think I will screw up and have to start over and over again cause I hit the wrong button, phew not this time!
Today the plan is simple, exercise, relax and spend time with DH. Anyone taking a day off for Labor Day, enjoy!
NYKAREN8 -
Well done NYKAREN. I find having some daytime tv running in the background stops me getting writer's block. It's just company and stops it all being so "important".
Lisa - Glad your knee is improving. I'm really wary these days of DIY jobs for that very reason. So easy to do something you'll regret for ages. You had a lucky escape this time!
