Janet ~ Your ornaments are beautiful. Heartfelt congrats for your daughter's accomplishments.
Rebecca ~ I really think you need a kitty. Would your hubby allow you to have an outside cat?0 -
@DamitJanit As others have mentioned, we are thinking of you and the others in the path of Hurricane Florence.
One of my grandson's teachers can't do an online class this a.m. because she is evacuating! It will give my grandson an opportunity to work a day ahead in math. His teacher is already on the way to Northern Virginia.
Karen in Virginia2 -
I too have DJ in mind. I may email her and see if they have a safe place to go. I know one time they relocated to a hotel further inland.
Praying for all in the path of the storm.
Janetr OKC1 -
Rebecca - Happy Belated Anniversary and congrats on the good news! I too thought that might be it - or by some miracle your son would be able to slide home for a quick visit before his stint in Japan. Crossing fingers everything goes well for them.
Michele - that crab is so cute! I admire you for being involved with the Newcomers and crafts - it's so important for us retirees to not just get stuck at home if we can help it. Hearing what you are up to and your daily exercise has motivated me to get off my chair more than once! One of our neighbors moved to Fuquay Varina NC a couple years ago... I think it's near Raleigh. I emailed her to see how she'll fare and haven't heard back. Do you know what the forecast is for there?
Janetr - I don't blame you for being proud of your daughter, what a tremendous accomplishment! And you are inspirational as well when I see your beautiful ornaments. The cameo rocks... but then they all do.
Karen in VA - You cutting back your hours is terrific! I was tickled to hear you are easing into retirement and are therefore able to help your grandson with his homeschooling. That's what retirement is all about I think. To no longer be restricted in doing things we enjoy and are important in our lives. That little guy will bloom under your watchful eye, and here's hoping your son will see this and gain some insight.
Husband Helping Rant... feel free to skip!!
Oh my goodness.... reading about "helper" husbands really hit home. When I was working, my DH would be so proud to announce he'd cleaned out the dishwasher.... then it was a scavenger hunt to find things, especially small kitchen tools. That was one reason, when our dishwasher gave up the ghost last year, that I haven't been keen on replacing it. Plus we use so few dishes it only takes a couple minutes to do the day's worth in the sink in a little dishpan.
My DH helps me carry in groceries after I've done the shopping and it takes all my strength to not grab him by the lapels and shake him at times and scream "Just let me do it!"
Our house is designed strangely.... drive into the attached garage where we have two pantries - a big one-shelves in the garage for food and extra detergent, etc., then a small one as we step into the laundry room. Go thru the laundry room then down the hall past the bedrooms and bathroom and THEN hit the kitchen. I normally unload everything in the garage, sort the bags on top the chest freezer as to what needs to be carried into the kitchen (refrigerated items, some frozen items) then the rest gets sorted into the pantries or put into the garage freezer. So DH always meets me at the door and wants to help... I quickly give him some refrigerated bags and send him to the kitchen to get him out of my hair. Nearly every time he also manages to grab bags of canned goods and glass jars of ragu and hauls them into the kitchen.... so I have to haul them back out to the shelves in the garage or pantry.
Back into the kitchen to finish my job.... I open the fridge.... things crammed in there on any old shelf. It's five minutes of unloading everything, double checking that I didn't miss grabbing a bag at the store..." did you see the cheddar cheese? I thought I bought broccoli.... did you see it? I REALLY wish you'd leave the bags on the counter and let me put things away." Which he'll do the next time then go back to the cram and stash method again.
I always have to remind myself that at least he can move, albeit often painfully with his bad hips, and this is important to him to be able to make a contribution. More and more I put myself in his shoes which helps me understand his behavior. I try not to think about what's coming up for him in the future. Hugs to all of you dealing with family members coping with "golden years" stuff. The golden years can kiss my patootie, lol. Enjoy today!
I've decided to activate my Master Gardener participation next year now that allergies are pretty much under control.
OK I'd better get moving here. Have a good day and hoping everyone stays safe from flooding and hurricanes!

Michelle Your crab amazes me. I can’t even imagine how you can do that! I love it!1

Elizabeth--Welcome. I have lost just over 100 pounds and have almost 100 to go. I have been heavy since before I started school and been trying to loose for more years then I can remember. I have found this a great place for support and friendship. Remember it is One day at a time.
Rebecca--Congrates!! Will this be your first grand child? Our grand daugther is having her ultrasound tomorrow to find out if she is having a boy or girl Then Sunday they are having a reveal party. I am praying for a girl as they have 2 boys and want a girl. But most important is that the baby is heathly. They lost a baby just after christmas this last year so been really worried about everything being ok. Her doctor has been great and keeping a close watch on her.
Janetr--So pretty. Congrates to your DD, sounds like she is a hard worker like her mom. You have every reason to be proud and brag. Great new on losing weight also. You are a strong woman. I am concerned about DJ also. Please tell her we are praying for them and that we miss her.
MIchele--Love the crab, he looks like he is ready to go do something.
Well best get myself ready as I have back to back meetings today starting at noon until 4. I have to make sure I have my notes ready and hope I can stay awake. So far doing good on the no soda pop, Day 3.
Blessings, Vicki GI NE7 -
Yes, Janetr, please tell DJ we miss her.
Rebecca - so happy for you. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all goes smoothly.
Done my writing, even if it wasn't a huge amount. Done my bonus calories. Watched too much tv.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx1 -
NYKaren you've given me another reason to be grateful, Thanks! Joe does use kitchen and garbage can liner bags. But like Rye's DH, couldn't wring out a dishcloth for the life of him. Holding good thoughts for your reconnecting with estranged friend. Hoping the benefits outweigh the challenges.
Vickie 3 days soda pop free? Brava!
Purl if your property deal comes through, will you be near Barbie?
Lenora is your timberland relatively flat or steep? I'd like to think of our 15 acres of sitka spruce and Douglas-fir as an emergency savings account, but afraid the cost of logging would exceed the proceeds.
Rebecca EEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Allie hope Aslan doesn't grow to be as large as his namesake... How many cats does your daughter have now?
Janetr One pound from lowest post-surgery weight? Woo HOO! Even more wondrous than your Faberge egg ornaments, are your and your daughter's accomplishments. She is truly an ornament to you!
SueBDew 2 miles after 2 weeks of no activity? Brava!
Michelle may the storm stay far from you and Vince.
Rori love the late season wildflowers/autumn colors!
Heather when you're in Hove, will your DH be gone so much for cricket?
Lanette "cram and stash method" and "golden years can kiss my patootie" ... snorted tea explosion! Wouldn't have skipped your rant for the world!
Wendy watched part of Dr. Michael Fuhrman's PBS Nutritarian presentation last night, very persuasive science. It needs to be persuasive, at this time I cannot imagine completely foregoing sugar, dairy and all processed foods. Is honey allowed?
Welcome Elizabeth, you have found THE place for support, wisdom, compassion. Ditto Barbie's, Okie's and Rebecca's baby steps and starting with logging advice.
Welcome Elitejammer, let us know what you want us to call you and approximately where you are to help us keep you straight in our minds.
Autumn, sigh! It used to be my very favorite season, but this year I'm wishing summer would last longer. We had so few days of warm weather. Maybe I'm just resisting September in all its meanings.
All you dear gals are so very important to me. Without our chats I'd feel isolated, despite the new T'ai Chi and Line Dance acquaintances. Thank you for being here from the bottom of my heart.
Lighter, lovelies!

Yes, ladies I am gitty with excitement! But I know she is cautious, so nothing said in Facebook until after the first trimester has passed! But I want to dance and yell I'm gooooing to be a Graaaandma now! Yes,Vicki *panting* this is my first grand baby how did ya know! Haahaa!
No Peachy I can't have cats because its in our lease no pets. But yes, one day when its just me, I shall have one, or two or ten.👍
Too much snacking these days!! I'm like those squirrels I see outside digging in my pantry and stuffing my cheeks. Aaack!
Congrats Janetr in your daughters awesome accomplishment!!! Yeah!!!

I'm up in Hartford will be on Tuesdays until they hire a full time dental assistant...they I think move her around like I suggested...I'll go wherever I need to to keep my job.1

Barbara - He might be gone even more because, not only will he be driving back to see the Hampshire games with his friend, he may take to going to the Sussex team which plays in Hove. I won't mind so much though because I won't be marooned out in the countryside without a car, I will have shops and family and buses and trains and cafés and art galleries and theatres etc etc. Plus the seaside. (If it happens)
Strangely though, today he rang to say he was coming home early. Normally a county cricket match takes four days. For the only time he can remember, this one was finished in less than two!!! What you call a bowler's wicket. So he is home and waiting for his curry, which smells heavenly.
I've been watching a lot of garden design programmes recently in case we do get our house, which has, for Hove, a decent sized garden. Trying to get some ideas.

Heather UK - that picture is indeed adorable!
Barbara - I miss the southern Oregon Coast. I get away to the section above Florence for a couple of days now and then, but have found it hard to take the time to visit the lower part.
My youngest DGS, Nicolas, is 6 and he has autism. He is becoming verbal at last, but it’s been a tough journey. He was diagnosed at 1-½, so very early, and we got him into a therapy program at 2. He is VERY bright (not just my opinion, experts agree), and his parents are totally invested in him, so his progress is amazing. We are fortunate that this area’s school district is known for their program, so he began school full time at age 3 four days a week. He now makes eye contact much of the time if he’s not tired, plays normally with other kids, and is mainstreamed into a regular classroom for 1st grade for half the school day. I’m very proud of the kids. They have a reverse household. He stays home and does it all except tidying the living room after The Boy has been loose in it since school was out. That’s her time to connect with him before bed. DSIL is 50 and has some social anxiety, which makes it difficult to find a good paying job. She has 2 BS (Bachelor if Science, not the other!) degrees - one in environmental studies, so finding a good paying job with one of the local tribes was easy. She has a driving need to work outside the home, just as I did so it works perfectly for all.
I’m going to start signing myself -

Sharon ~ I like the name Trucker too!
DH and I got our eyes examined this AM. Mine are about the same as they were two years ago so no need for new glasses. I do have a cataract that's being watched. DH has to have cataract surgery and is fighting it. But, it's his good eye....they one he aims with when shooting. LOL
Carol in GA4 -
Barbara So Oregon Coastie - how much of a drive is it for you to take your Tai Chi and line dance? A mile or two? One of the appealing things about Master Gardeners for next year is the demonstration garden I'd like to volunteer at has "work parties" on Tuesday mornings, that's the day I normally get my allergy shots so can zip over there and get my hours in. Plus the grounds is at one of the low-income senior housing facilities in town, which is a super nice situation.
Janetr - I forgot to congratulate you on being a loser, lol.
Carol - good for you getting your eye exams done. Your DH needs to get his "aiming eye" taken care of! I am amazed at how well my DH can sight in his pellet gun when going after the "pesky wabbits" considering he has the beginnings of cataracts as well. He can barely walk some days but eyesight and hearing are darn good.
Sharon in WA - so glad to hear Nicolas is coming along well! Is he in the Issquah school system? We lived up by Beaver Lake (before it was incorporated into Sammamish) before we moved to Lewis County in '94. Nice area but I'm sure we'd never recognize it today.
OK ladies, don't tell my DH but I had my own cram and stash mishap this morning. Decided to do laundry so grabbed sheets and some misc little towels, crammed them into the washer, got it going then went off to slice cherry tomatoes in half - they are drying in the oven right now on parchment paper lined cookie sheets.
So the washing machine finished and I went to toss items into the dryer and it hit me.... I forgot to add laundry detergent to this load. DOH!!!! Have never done that before! Well, the deed was done and at least I washed them in hot water, lol. Added a dryer sheet and none the wiser.
Will post pix of the tomatoes once they are dry. Now that the rains have hit I don't think the tomatoes will last much longer anyhow so glad I got most of the little ones picked.
In the meantime, I found a couple little posters you might find interesting:

Hi, I am new to this group, although not new to MyFitnessPal. I'm 54 and have severe and crippling osteoarthritis. After 4 years of major surgeries, I can barely walk half a city block. I've gained 50+ pounds in these last years. My goal is to lose weight.9
-
Lanette what a fascinating graphic! Tho I have to be losing more than a pidly ,4 cups of sweat, LOL. With my hot flashes I am covered in sweat so often I would think it is gallons!,
Lol on the laundry, we promise not to tell.2 -
Welcome "sbreuls". You'll find much support and meet many interesting folks on this chat.Car
Lanette ~ That was funny about the washing machine snafu. Once I put some eggs in my instant pot to cook and found out in the end that I had not put any water in it.

I was away from the computer for a few days so just read without commenting. I find it too hard to comment and keep up on my phone or tablet.
Rebecca - Congratulations - what a magical time for you and your family.
Michele - Love your crab. I thought bowling teams were made up of a group of people that decided to join a league. At least that's the way it is here. No one chooses your team for you.
Lanette - Helping husbands - My husband does nothing 95% of the time and then when he does to be nice I have to go on a treasure hunt LOL We are so different in where things should be kept it's funny.
Barbara - I agree, I am such a Fall girl. This year though it felt like Fall started on August 1st and we were robbed of a month of summer. It is calling for snow here tomorrow, Thursday and then Saturday and Sunday already. 5-10 cms it is saying.
I had a nice weekend away with my cousin. We stayed up too late, ate too much junk and generally acted like teens. It was great! Her husband was away and it was just her and I. She just ordered all new appliances for her kitchen and I am buying her old set from her. Her son will deliver it Saturday for me. Her old set is about 7 years newer than mine. My husband has talked to a guy that runs an appliance store, he is willing to trade my 3 older pieces in for a refurbished washer/dryer. I am praying that this works out, I haven't been able to do laundry at home in 2 years!

Love all the pictures.
Lanette love the acronym.
Janet kudos to your daughter.
Finally coming up for air. I was sick for three days with a bad cold. When I went to choir on Wednesday the woman who sat down next to me said my daughter had been sick for two weeks and I am starting to get sick. I knew I should have moved. I missed singing on Sunday because of it.I have been eating lots of veggies little to no sugar and lots of essential oils. I think I am over the worst of it. I just feel a bit tired. I was able to get my to do list done today.3 -
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! Day 2 and I didn't go over my calories on day 1....is it possible to not eat enough calories?
My trigger time is in the evening after work. I think I am going to meal prep this weekend for next week. It is too easy to grab something quick and unhealthy in the evening.

Janet, congrats to you and your daughter! Huge accomplishment! Speaking of accomplishments, those ornaments are gorgeous! And don't bother trying to make the photo smaller on my account! I love seeing the big picture (so to speak), lets me get a good look at all your hard work!
Allie, Aslan looks adorable!
Pip, Love the airstream mobile! Also congrats on the bike ride, such a good cause.
NY Karen, hope your visit with your estranged friend went well and that you are no longer estranged!
"However, my legs did start questioning what we were up to along about 4.5 km" Yes, Machka, my body has sometimes asked me what on earth I think I'm trying to accomplish! lol It feels good in the ways that count tho!
Heather, your running lane looks lovely, so fresh and peaceful. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that everything works out.
Rebecca!! Congrats on the upcoming happy event! Grandkids are the best!
I've been reading, just not commenting. Kind of in a funk for some reason, trying to figure out just what I have to do to make my health a priority. So..... yesterday I started a new eating plan. I am trying to cut out processed sugar, so the only sugar that I will be putting in my mouth (body!) will be from fruit and veggies, not cookies and cakes. Yesterday went really well, I wasn't even really feeling hungry til it was very close to dinner time, which is when a person should be feeling hungry, am I right? lol I haven't been sleeping well and decided that it was probably because putting so much junk into my body, so that was it's way of protesting. Didn't sleep well last night either, but I have great hopes for tonight! My feet got cold last night and I could not get them warm, so I think that may have been part of the problem, well that and the fact that hubby has been stealing the blanket. Might be time to get two quilts for the bed, one for me and one for him!
Got back into a good routine at the gym, decided that I actually do have the time so I should take advantage of it and spend more of it working out, rather than sitting in front of the tv indulging in that mindless snacking. I have body parts that are not sure that's a good idea, but they'll be happier eventually!
Thinking about all the folks in the hurricane's path, hoping that all will be well, sounds like it's going to dump a whole lot of rain in some parts. Was watching Live with Kelly and Ryan this morning and they had a meteorologist explaining what will probably happen with the high front coming in up against the hurricane, it will basically stall the hurricane which means one area is going to get really wet!
We've had a few issues with the hot summer, fires and now rain. One community got hit hard by fire and now that there's been some rain the same slope that was burning is now in danger of sliding down the hill. I'm thinking this might happen in a few more communities as well. Kind of happy to see the rain, have to admit, it will sure help putting out the forest fires. Just reading about the big fire in California, bet they are wishing for rain too, it seems to be really aggressive.
Okay, enough of this novel! lol Hugs to those who need them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!
Evelyn, Vancouver Island where the rain has stopped for now and it's a beautiful day!

Yes you need to have a minimum amount of calories for your body to function properly.
I also have a problem with the evening, I am so tired and lazy when I get home I stop way too often and grab take out instead of making something healthy.
I am a crafty soul, I like to paint simple paintings, wood crafts and scrapbook. I am very impatient so I like things I can start and finish in just a day or two. I tried cross stitching and never completed the project because I lost interest in it. I also have two daughters, one is married with 2 children and the other is in hairdressing school getting married next summer. I have a husband of 31 years and no pets.

Did Kelly Coffee Meyers Cardio Quick Fix DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Kathy Smith Step Workout since we have a Newcomer general meeting. As much as I hate to say this, I really can’t wait for April when I no longer have to do this. I just don’t like the direction that this organization is going in.
Speaking of cats – I had this really weird dream last night. I dreamed that Jess came home with 10 kittens. They were jumping all around and Loki was jumping like them, only he’s not exactly a kitten. I know where this dream came from. See, many years ago Denise brought a kitten here. We asked her to keep it in the bathroom but she let it in the bedroom. Ever since then, we’ve had a problem with one of the cats (we think it’s Loki) peeing on the bed. Not the floor, just the bed. We were keeping the bedroom door closed. Now that Shadow is with us, what we’re doing is keeping the door open. Hopefully, the cat will eventually get the idea that the bedroom is no longer “forbidden territory”. His peeing is not related to the fact that Shadow is here. He’d do it when she wasn’t here. I know for a while some cat would go to the bathroom in my exercise room, but knock on wood that hasn’t happened in a long time. Last night I’m not sure if there was pee on the bed or not. If there was, it was just a small area. It looked like it even dried. I rinsed out the sheet just in case. So that’s what brought on this dream.
Janetr – congrats to you and your daughter. I know what Vince went thru passing those exams so I know how grueling they are. You have every right to be bursting with pride.
Heather and Carol – I was thinking about DJ. I know that she “likes” a lot of my diaries. Not sure why she doesn’t come in, tho. I’m thinking about her in the path of this storm
Lynette – Raleigh is supposed to be mostly cloudy today, morning thunderstorms tomorrow, scattered thunderstorms Thursday, Friday and Saturday 80% chance of rain. I haven’t read anything in the paper about worse conditions in the Raleigh area. I will keep my eye out, tho. You know, my FIL used to say when he retired “I don’t know where I found the time to work”. I just thought “yea, right”. Now I understand what he meant!!!! I remember when Vince first retired and I was working, when I got home from work I constantly got “you’re not putting THAT in the dinner (not like he hadn’t had it that way for the past 20 years) “load the dishwasher this way” “do this with the washer” where finally one day I just said to him “just go downstairs, just go downstairs” I’m the person who cleans as she goes along and in advance of something. Like today I’m vacuuming the house for the pool party. I’m going to think optimistically. Vince still has the items from putting up the new screening on the porch. When I asked him the other day where things went, he told me that he wants to get more up. Well, it’s just cloudy. Guess what’s not getting done? What a good pic CRAP…so true
Wbruls – welcome! Baby steps and that weight will come off.
Barbara and everyone else – we’re pretty far inland, at the foothills of the mountains. The last time a hurricane hit here was Hurricane Hugo 30 years ago. I’m sure we’ll get rain and cloudy weather, but I have a feeling we aren’t going to get a hurricane. Vince wanted to get the generator out, tho. We moved that from PA and haven’t had to use it. I honestly don’t think we’ll have to, but it makes him happy to have it out so it’s really not a big deal
Thank you, too, for everyone. Just knowing that this is a place where I can vent, etc and no one judges me but many times gives me a different perspective is great
Snowflake – they choose the team for you around here. They base it on handicap. One bowler has a high handicap (like me), one a very low handicap, and one with a handicap in the middle. Otherwise, you could potentially get three good bowlers on one team and they would win all the games. That would make the others feel defeated. You sign up for the league and at the orgizational meeting they tell you who your teammates will be for that season. I do hope everything works out for you with the appliances
Elizabeth – I’m not an accountant, but my hubby is a retired CPA and janetr’s daughter just got her CPA license. But I do like to do different crafts. I just don’t find quilting to be very relaxing at all. Right now I’m working on this rectangle loom and making a scarf for dd’s bf.
Exercised, then we took my car to the Mazda dealer. Turns out when they put in the transmission, they didn’t put the transmission dipstick down all the way so it developed an airbubble and a lot of fluid came out. So we went back about an hour later and picked it up. I vacuumed the whole house then strung some popcorn. Had dinner. Vince is shooting so I think I’ll go to the local cheap theater and see Mama Mia Here We Go Again.

Heather, the photo of Bea and Edie is just adorable.... I'm sure when they are teens they won't appreciate it, but it is really cute!
Tracy, I was watching the news the other night when it said about areas getting snow already, it is too soon!
I'm a bit of a crafty soul as well. I crochet, some knitting and quilting. A wee bit of embroidery, did a wall hanging announcing our grandson's birth, it turned out really well!
I'm at work so must go do some!
