Aw *kitten*! what did they say for recovery time brother?0

@7lenny7 That totally sucks! I didn't even know we had extensor digitorum brevises or that we could tear them. I learn something new every day.3

I won't know until I see the surgeon tomorrow. I tried to google it but like @rheddmobile said, it's not very common. I think the NP I saw today said he'd never seen anything like it.
I read a few reviews about this surgeon and the consensus is that he won't sugarcoat anything and his recovery time estimates are spot on.
What the hell?!?! All that tendon needs to do is lift up my toe every step, it's not like it's taking a beating! The crazy thing is, I feel great today...like I could go for a run...

@LaDispute57 that was a *beast* of an effort, man! That course you were on makes my course look like a playground. Be careful, a guy could really tear up his extensor digitorum brevis on a course like that!
I know exactly what you mean about dealing with a DNF. Everyone will tell you that you did an awesome job out there (including me) but inside you obsess, and wonder, and deal with self-disappointment...that's the worst part I think, disappointing yourself. It sucks big time. I use my DNF as motivation when I need it.
You will get back on those hills again and you will conquer those *kitten*.
@MegaMooseEsq nice job getting out there and dealing with the adversity...the parking, the weather, and most of all, no breakfast sandwich!!5 -

@LaDispute57 total respect man! That was a killer course, nothing I could even imagine. You triumphed in all that adversity. The only thing you didn't do was cross that line. But you still are a winner for going through all that!
@MegaMooseEsq great race in those conditions and obstacles! Really nice medal!2 -

@MegaMooseEsq Great race, and that's some seriously nice bling!
Totally this! Way to represent!5 -
@LaDispute57 hugs what a challenge. I would never have made it up one of those pipelines so you have my respect!
I've just come back from my morning rum 11k on the schedule and because I'm out of town, I got to run in a new place! The Auckland domain is a nice little park in the middle of the city that's basically a hill with the museum on the top and various paths winding around and up and down the hill. I had absolutely no idea where I was. Goie. I ended up doing 3 circuits. The first was around the middle of the hill, then up and around the museum - that was about 3k. Then the second was around the very outside of the park, and had a very steep down hill path. As I was going down I was dreading the uphill, but because that was along the road it wasn't quite as steep. Was still about 700m or half a mile of continuous climbing. And to add a bit of length I again decided to circle the museum. That was about 5k. For the last km I just ran the middle circuit again with an extra look around a small lake, and got back to the beginning needing 50m to get my 11k.
I really enjoyed this run. I wasn't thinking about pace or "how long left" or any of that. My biggest worry was the goose I had to pass twice when going around the lake. I had visions of it biting me in my bum. Fortunately it stayed put haha.
Nothing quite like a goose to make you pick up your pace!!5 -

Also, they did not have to send a search and rescue out after you, so there is that. Though you might have gotten a flight on one of those fancy helicopters if they did. Something to consider next time?5 -

@7lenny7 Sorry to hear about your foot...I missed that part initially as I was speed-reading through your race report, but glad you're getting it seen to in time. PS, Extensor Digitorum Brevis sounds like some sort of Harry Potter spell.
@MegaMooseEsq Great race report, and congrats on running it well! And yeah, during the winter it's easier (IMO) to wear your watch on the outer layers, but obviously any built-in HRM won't then work, so an external monitor that is worn under the clothing is ideal. I had a Scosche Rhythm+ directly on my arm for previous winters, but it kept breaking after months of heavy use, hence I'm going with a chest strap this time.
@LaDispute57 Great race, but sorry to hear about the DNF.
Normally on my recovery days, when the later section of my run is done with the group, my HR usually skyrockets for no apparent reason (like, 160 and up) with no change in my breathing. This time, using the chest strap, it stayed low throughout the entire run...maybe the watch was picking up cadence lock when I ran slower with the group? Maybe cooler temps are now helping keep the HR down? Maybe it's all of the above and more? Who knows, but things didn't even venture anywhere near Z3 this time. I'll have to keep watching it on future runs to see if it stays this way or whether today was just a fluke.
In other news, I only have 1.84 miles to go to make goal, which is great timing because after Thursday, I'm back on call through to the end of the month.

Hah, yeah, the breakfast sandwich was a blow, but I powered through! That stinks about your toe though - hopefully the recovery is quick.2 -

Sooooo.... two ladies in my running group are thinking about doing the Mittens Challenge in May. https://borgessrun.com/earn-your-mittens
This is a double marathon challenge -- 2 Marathons in 2 Days. They invited me. I am thinking about it. Someone talk me out of it before I break myself and my bank account. LOL
far from talking you out of it ma'am, that looks like sooooo much fun! I am more interested in the half and half option because I think with my current level of fitness I would DNF the second one if I went for the mittens challenge.
@workaholic_nurse Oh, you should do it too! Someone I am going with is doing the 2 halves. She is trying to get in 50 half marathons before her 50th birthday. I though about doing a half and then a full but my crazy overachiever running brain is telling me I NEED to do the 2 full marathons. That part of my brain always gets me in so much trouble...5 -

Ive been looking at a half marathon out by Jackson Hole, where apparently if you get lost in the wilderness, you might get rescued by Harrison Ford. Might make having to eat your own shoes worth it...5 -
It's confirmed. The MRI shows I have a tear of my 2nd extensor digitorum brevis, one of the tendons on the top of my foot which extends my toe. I have a consultation with the surgeon tomorrow.
Oh no! So sorry! That sounds painful.
I have my fingers crossed it is an easy surgery with minimal recovery.2 -
