Hi everybody I need help desperately. I am 63 now, yo yo diets since I was in my 20s, it seems to get harder as the years go by to keep motivated is there anybody else out there like me. I need a good kick up the butt and perhaps a few friends.

I'm 60 and still tryin as well. It is hard to stay motivated. You should just pay attention to how you feel when you eat better. I know that if I eat "clean" for a week, my body just really feels better. I hope this helps!!!! Keep going at it. I'm with you!20

Take heart:). I’m 62/ female/ short and have lost 53 pounds ~~43 since January using MyFitnessPal. I actually find it easier now than when I was younger. Over and over I would try to cut down too much or try a fad diet and neither of those were sustainable for long.
Consequently, I spent my entire adult life overweight, veering into obese in the last couple of years.
Since finding the correct calorie intake goal for myself and logging honestly *every single day* I’ve been able to finally achieve a normal weight/BMI for my height.

Hi, I'm Pat and just turned 71 in September.... would like to support a few friends in this journey as well as get support. Feel free to add me as a friend. As of today I weigh 295.4 boy, do I hate to admit that number. I have an exercise bike that has an eliptical with it. Would like to be able to work up to using more than the bike, but need to get balance and strength to stand for more than a fe minutes at a time. hope to hear from a few of you all. I live in Northwest corner of Ohio, Pioneer to be exact.

I’m 63. I lost 70 lbs about two years ago using a tracker and following mfp. I had lost many times before but could never maintain. What I like about mfp is that I can eat whatever I want if I make it fit my calories. I’m struggling with some bad habits right now, but I am back on track seriously trying. My snacking was out of control at night, so I’m trying If and it’s working for me. I eat often but in that specific window of time. You can do this! You have to find something that works for you. Add me! I love having new friends here!21

I wouldn't dream of kicking you--we just have to kick this fat to the curb! Go to the community and search "Joined MFP One Year Ago Today - Frumpy to Fit!" or search "love22step". That was my story at 60, and I go back to that to inspire myself! A couple of years later, I fell off the wagon after injuring my ankle using a string trimmer. Now I've started over, at 66, but I know I can do it! We can definitely do this!17

Hello everyone I've had a lot of sucess by changing to a plant based diet. However I struggle with consuming enough calories to lose weight. Any other vegans out there to help me with this?11

Hi everyone, I'm 64 and trying yet again. Let myself go the last 3 years, and now am so uncomfortable with all the extra pounds. I joined WW just last week to help me get started, motivated and be accountable. Not convinced that the point system is for me, probably because I've been a calorie counter for so long. I'll try to reconcile the two. I'm glad to find people in my own age group. I can't really identifý much with younger people anymore. Hope I can be of some inspiration to you, I already feel encouraged by just having found you all.

Hi I am 65 and just recently found that if I follow a food plan it is easier. It is hard when I can't be at thome but is doable. I also found some chair exercises that seem to work. I could use some one who likes to talk and is interested in being healthy .

i am 65, kept 40 lbs off for five years and last year got me and I gained 25. With MFP lost it again so it works!16

I just turned 66 - but it's not about some "diet" but a long term healthier life style. A healthy meal plan, everything recorded on MFP. They are doing the calculations, the daily calories, macros. Just take it meal by meal, day by day and you will succeed as so many who make use of MFP.15

@santasmrs four years ago at the age of 63 after doing 40 years of yo-yoing weight I knew my time was running out health wise. On a hunch I cut out processed foods when I stopped eating foods with added sugars and or any form of grain. Pain became less starting in a few weeks and slow weight loss started day 45 but this time around I had decided never to diet the rest of my life by forcing myself to go hungry again.
Four years later most all of my health issues are resolving or have resolved. Besides my body pain dropping like a rock one day six months in I realized my 40 years of IBS was gone and has not yet returned. I am down 50 pounds and have maintained that loss for the past three years without thought. I can now get in and out of vehicles, operate tractors and backhoe without pain.
My n=1 trial proved my best Way Of Eating to be Low Carb High Fat in my case. Who knows what WOE will work best for you so you may want to pick any WOE and try it for perhaps 90 days and move forward from there.

@djbomstad 4 years ago at the age of 63 and having a very hard time of walking, getting in and out of cars, etc I changed a lifetime of eating habits that were bad for my health.
Now at 67 my physical health and mental health is better that 30 years ago. If one is breathing HOPE can be a powerful thing. While weight loss had been removed from my objectives four years ago I still lost weight and have maintained a 50 pounds weight loss for the past three years without going hungry even one day.
Please note while I have my account open it is empty since I do not track what or how much I eat daily. I do weigh each morning to track my net CICO results since weighing food and counting calories may be beyond my capacity some day.

Hi I am 61 and still trying to loose weight. My only solution to eating properly will be gastic bypass. I have been doing alot of reading about it and my doctor feels this will be a good route. A little nervous and my family would rather I eat less but it is not easy.6

I'm 63 and using this app, I have been able to lose 30lbs since July. It's harder now that I'm in my 60s, but feeling better and seeing my numbers on my 6 month check up improve is good motivation. And in my experience, once you eliminate unhealthy food from your diet for about a month - the cravings go away.13

I'm 65. I have Hashimoto's. Lost 75 lbs here on MFP four years ago and have been in maintenance ever since.
Key for me was to not label *any* foods as good or bad, healthy or unhealthy, clean or unclean - it's just food. Any food you love can be included in your diet in reasonable amounts. Portion control achieved through weighing my meals and allowing room for treats is what has made this sustainable for me. That combined with increased physical activity was the winning combo that made the weight loss process relatively easy.23 -
I'm 64. Will be 65 in January. I see a dietitian every couple weeks. I eat up to 1600 calories a day. She tells me to eat the foods I like so I can make this manageable for life. So, I do that, but stick to my calories. (Except for the occasional family wedding). I lost 15 lbs in July; 8 lbs in Aug; 6 lbs in Sept; and 7 lbs in Oct. I have a total of 34 lbs off now. I am getting there. Still have a lot to go!31

@times60 take a look at how one is to eat after surgery for it to work near term and long term. Typically it is low carb in nature and if you do not like that way of eating question your doctor. I have a friend just a bit younger and she did not eat the correct way and now has regained the weight she lost plus has the long term side effects of the surgery to live with.
I had given up trying to lose weight and keep it up after 40 years of failure and health trashed until 4 years ago.

You can do this: I lost around 50 pounds here, from obese BMI to 22-point-something BMI (low 130s at 5'5'), in just less than a year at age 59-60, and have maintained a healthy weight since. I'll be 63 in about 3 weeks. Oh, and if it matters (I don't think it does ), I'm hypothyroid.14

Why don't all of us over a 'certain' age Join up as friends maybe we can give each other some tips that are more suitable for senior years when we can't pack a punch on the exercise front. Good luck all.12

I'm 62 and down 11 pounds since September 1, 2018. I just joined MyFitnessPal on October 21st. On October 23rd I went down to a total loss of 13.5 but I'm back up to 218 since October 24th. But I'm not giving up. I try to drink more water all day long, track every single thing that goes in my mouth from food to water, which helps me track exactly how much water I'm drinking daily. Daily reading on the MyFitness Pal site is helpful too by assisting me to think differently about food and how I prepare it. My husband is not on the plan but is following my efforts and making better choices most times

I'm 62 and lost over 100 pounds. I started at 59 and made goal at 61. Took me a bit longer than some but I have maintained for a year now. You can do it! I don't do anything extreme. I walk 5 to 6 days a week and eat low calorie. I also have a low thyroid and CFS so even with that it can be done. There are quite a few of us in this age bracket on here who have reached goal. Don't let them ever tell you it can't be done at our age.23

Reading all these comments is extremely encouraging. I have been struggling with my weight all my life. So even at 64 I continue to try. Every day I wake up and tell myself today will be a better day, and after reading your comments yesterday (every time a potato chip or cookie called my name) I made it through the day without feeling deprived and having 92 calories left on the books. It's all about the small victories I guess. Thanks for your encouragement, though maybe in response to one, it speaks to us all.16

I'm 54 ... my motivation to reduce my fat mass is so I know when I'm 99 I'll still be able to care for myself. I don't want to be held back by diabetes or find my blood pressure is too high to run with my (soon to arrive) grandchild or find I need the support of another to move my bulk to and from the toilet seat. These thoughts keep me out of the cookie jar. There is a lot of good advice here whatever route you take, make sure each of your choices can last for a life time - food you enjoy, food that nourishes not harms, sleep more, exercise a little bit more by having fun walking or working out with friends. Life is good, even as we get older if we take time to take care of ourselves.14

I'm 64. I have lost about 40 lbs. and have maintained that for a year. Need to lose another 20-30. The support here is awesome and helps me stay on program. I'm on here most days.
