For many of us this is the beginning of a long season of food temptations and high stress activities. Now is the time to be connected to others for support and encouragement.
The name of the thread is "Women Ages 50+" but all women are welcome to join the conversation.
Many of us made goals and resolutions for October. How did you do with them?
If you have made goals or resolutions for November, please share them with us.

Barbie from beautiful chilly NW Washington
My word for 2018 is "tenacity".
Resolutions for October (with end of the month comments)
*gradually increase exercise (yes, did this with moderation)
*work harder on scanning project (continued but not much improvement)
*plant new bulbs (not finished but made huge progress)
Resolutions for November
*finish planting bulbs
*never give up on scanning project
*make new line dance music CD

Hi Gals,
Well it is Halloween and it is the worst day I have probably ever had eating wise…and it wasn’t all junk, a lot of junk, but also a lot of way too big a helpings… but it’s over. I’m going to try to add 2 pictures of me, the costume came out good.
The folks across the street have a scary Halloween maze, and there is chain saws, screaming, haunted music, and all going until 10:30 pm – a bit late for my preference..
I like some of you vote absentee which here in California you can do always, and then at our local police department we can drop our ballot into a bin, so I voted a week and a half ago. I am one of those consistent voters, I have only missed one election since I was 18… I have opinions and my Mom would always say, you may only voice your opinion if you have voted.
Heather – you look happy!
Lisa – welcome home
Beth – what a great attitude – but here’s a hug (((())))))
Barbara – I know California pays a lot, but some of it is being careful ! My gas and electric runs $30-$40 per month. My across the street neighbors pay a lot more but the front door is wide open even in the coldest or hottest weather.
Barbie – thanks so much for getting us started again.
Smiles

Did the water aerobics class. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Crunch Live Total Body Boot Camp DVD. Vince feels that I should have stayed home and rest. I’m not running a fever. I just took it easier.
I picked up my parrot Monday but forgot to post a pic of it. Personally, I like the vibrancy of the colors of his feathers. Hope you enjoy
M – that Tim Tam looks really good. One of the positive side effects of this antibiotic is that it seems to take away practically all of my appetite. I found last night that I wanted less and mainly veges.
Okie – Vince wonders why I give a big handful of candy to the t-o-t’ers!!! I already have some popcorn popped that I usually will eat while giving out the candy. This helps me stay away from the candy (sort of) As far as leftover candy, I put it in Vince’s office so it’s out of my sight and he can finish it or else I give it to the soup kitchen. I read somewhere that soup kitchens don’t want candy, but I see children there and I would think that they’d like some candy at times so I will give it to them. Update: I have 3 bags to return.
Do you know that the city of Hickory (where we take the ceramics) bought bags of candy for the ladies at ceramics to give out. Tell me, what kid is going to go to a ceramics studio?
Lisa in AR – When Clyde has one of those light plastic balls in his mouth, he makes this noise. Honestly, you’d think he was dying. But he’s playing. The first time he made this sound we got concerned. Now when we hear it we just say “oh, that’s Clyde playing”
Almost forgot to download my coupons for Bobs Red Mill. Oh, that’s right, we won’t be going to ceramics tonight. Well, it expires on the 14th. Their coupons used to be good for a whole month, now it’s only 2 weeks. But you can download more.
I tried having cauliflower with my breakfast, but the cauliflower is so big. Oh well, you’ll never know unless you try. I didn’t think it would be that big.
Heather – can your grin get any bigger????
Snowflake – what a cartoon!!! That’s one of the reasons I like taking the water aerobics class. If there’s anyplace to have a hotflash…in the pool is the place.
Penny – how good to see you! Love how you greeted the t-o-t’ers
Today after exercise class the instructor had this basket of candy (I really don’t understand why candy. I would think that a basket of apples would be better.) and I had no problem passing it by. Just now Vince put out some of the candy for the t-o-t’ers (he wanted to use up what I bought <on sale with my coupon> even tho they’re the smaller candies) and it didn’t appeal to me at all, even tho they were the mini candy bars.
After exercise stopped at the Salvation Army…didn’t find anything. Then went to WalMart. See, one gal always gives her students cookies that she’s made or some candy. She’d asked me a few days ago if I’d buy it since she’s in CO. Well, I knew the one WalMart had the candy but I didn’t know about the WM near me. They didn’t have the lollipops last year. But they had them this year. Now if they’ll be in the same space, that remains to be seen.
Phdmom – Jess wants me to send her lots of pictures of Shadow. So I took one of her laying and the caption was “Costume? What costume? This IS my costume” (she's all black)
Beth – (((REAL BIG HUG)))) You have a great attitude, you are truly an inspiration
Going to take a shower now. Newcomer bowling tomorrow night. We think we’ll go to early voting and then to the post office. Jess was supposed to send me her address so I could send her a Halloween card. I got it today. Not sure how much the postage to St. Kitts will be. Evidently it can be anywhere from $1.15 to almost $2. Don’t know if a card is considered the same thing as a business-size envelope. So now we’ll know for sure.
Kim – you are the cutest scarecrow I’ve ever seen. Only problem is…not scary at all.

Morning my friends~
Well I slept pretty well and I am waiting until 8 am to call over to the nurse, here is hoping that I can still have the colonoscopy tomorrow..
Beth~ you have an amazing outlook....God Bless you and your son xoxoxox2 -
Scarecrow Kim adorable costume!
Folks with the leftover candy: time to donate it, throw it away, quickly, just do it.
Barbie's right, the season is upon us, high stress loaded with triggers and expectations to eat, eat, eat. Habits are gonna keep me on the path that is perhaps not as exciting, but will make me feel good in the long run.
Goals for November:
==Before I pick any food item up, stop and ask, am I hungry, is this a good choice?
==It is okay to say no to an uncomfortable social invitation, it is alright to agree to one also--no guilt either way
==Maintain the habits that work, prepping food and exercise gear to trigger healthy behavior
==Journal every day and perseverate over the good in my life
Welcome November! NYKAREN

Morning, all,
Barbie - thank you for starting us off right, as always...
Beth - you're my hero, one among many of my heroes on this thread. Your strength is awe-inspiring.
Michele - love the parrot! Cats are fun aren't they? My son and I were having that conversation yesterday--their personalities and verbalizations are so unique and part of who they are as little four-legged, sometimes cranky people.
Karen in VA - loved the news on your grandson's math test. He's so lucky to have you in his life.
Heather - the small things build up into big frustrations when you're exhausted, and moves are uber-traumatic. Hope your DH feels better soon!
Allie - thinking good thoughts for your colonoscopy, both that they can do it and that the results are great.
Kim - you make such a cute scarecrow!
Rori - have you left yet? I have this vision of you and your DH walking on a beach...
The Fitbit says I slept less than six hours, but oh, I slept well! Woke up rested, ready for the day at 4 a.m., got my husband's coffee and lunch made, already got my own first cup of coffee onboarded, and the next one will be on its way soon. Feel like myself again. Optimistic, able, and energetic.
It's been far too long since I felt this way. Doesn't hurt that this is my Friday!
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR8 -
So this was my October. I had hoped to do 1 hour a day of exercise, but ended up just short of that. However, I did more exercise this month than in the previous 3 months.
I also finished another university course.
And worked.
And took care of my husband.
And started dealing with several medical issues of my own.
And organised and hosted a couple cycling events.
2018 Monthly October

November ... hopefully more exercise than in October.
And starting another university course.
And working.
And taking care of my husband.
And dealing with several medical issues of my own.
And doing my part for the cycling club my husband and I are members of. In addition to organising events, I'm the "communication officer". Fortunately, I'm not organising any more events until March but the new season has begun and so there's a bit of communication work.
And hopefully checking a few things off my ever-growing "Things To Do" list.

Good morning Ladies -
Barbie - Thanks for starting us off. You are the glue that holds us together!
Well ladies, I did it. I gained a few lbs over the month of October and I have to admit I look better. My goal for November will be to get my brain to be OK with the higher number on the scale that equals me looking better physically. I know I look healthier with a few more lbs on me, but my brain hasn't caught up with that higher number being OK. What's ironic is that the number I look better at is the lower end of my original range I set for myself. Once I dipped into the lowest decade I've seen since high school, I kind of liked seeing that number .
Our trick or treating in our neighborhood was postponed until tonight due to expected thunderstorms so I have another day of full size candy bars looking me in the face. It's OK though, I can easily pass them by, at this moment my desire to get back to fighting weight is stronger than any candy bar.
Heather - I know you will get everything sorted out soon. What a beautiful area to be sorting things out in.
Kim - Love the scarecrow costume! So cute!!
NYKaren - Love your goals for November!!
There was more I wanted to comment on, but I've forgotten. I'll close with a pic of my hub and I at our neighbors annual Halloween party....He was cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation (complete with white shoes you can't see) and I was an old Prom Queen (I wore the dress from my Sr. Prom that had been stored in a vacuum seal bag so it was quite wrinkled).

Ha ha my breakfast consisted of 2 single size servings of unsweetened applesauce and so it begins lol2

Okie: Great photo of you and hubby!
Beth: Having braveness in the face of adversity...such a blessing you are to your family. Your strength is greatly admired by all of us. I know that your belief in God is sustaining you.
Lisa: Glad to see that you are facing November with a great outlook and feeling more energetic!
Kim: Cuteness is the best description for you!
Expecting bad weather today but need to go get coffee, etc to keep us going!

Our attitude is a choice.
Have a great day!

Someone on my FB recently said something like this ... "I’m having way too much fun enjoying life."
And it got me to thinking ...
When was the last time I had fun or enjoyed life?
So here's the question for all of you ... what do you do for fun or enjoyment? What makes you smile, laugh, relax, feel good and/or tell people, "I had the best time ... ".
Machka in Oz5 -
Good News: Only had to wait in line about 15 minutes to vote-glad that is done!!!
Challenging News: I think my scale was either way off last week or this week. According to it this morning I have gained 4+ lbs. That is just not possible. So I'm going to believe that it was off last week and be satisfied with what it said this morning.
November Goals:
Personal training two times a week when I am in town (going to CA from 11/20-11/26)
Cardio at least 4 times a week
What ever I weigh next Thursday will be the weight I will maintain until January 1
Connect more with friends and family

Got quite a bit done today and found my underwear DH still very poorly but he is determined to go to the kids this pm.
Tradesmen not getting back to me.
Love Heather UK XXXXXX4 -
It's November!
Well, we didn't get any trick or treaters... and a couple of the neighbors new to our little road were all decorated with witches and jack o lanterns and cobwebs draped over bushes. It's a lot different living out in the country on an unlit road. I should have grabbed Kim's scarecrow outfit and given them some action, lol. Adorable outfit, Kim. Okie and DH - you are such a cute couple! Looking great in that prom dress!
Loved all the photos and decorations, Pip's pups win the prize, lol.
Beth - Sorry to hear about another challenge for your DS - I agree with these other ladies. You have the spunk and spirit needed for these situations. (((HUGS)))) I am so impressed with the strength of everyone in this group. So glad we have each other for advice and support.
Katla - hope your ballot turns up! Yes, give those folks a call. Our elections division is under the Auditor's purview but it might be different elsewhere.
I'll say that October was not a good month for me and I put on a few pounds. Shoulder pain/ tendonitis had been nagging and curtailed some of my workout routine - it's getting better but now I totally understand how easy it is to put weight on when not feeling well physically. Hard to get those happy endorphins when feet hurt and can't walk far or pump iron, so my body thinks the next best thing is candy, chips and ice cream.
On a good note, I did my darndest to eat healthy meals despite the extra goodies.... instead of all goodies and not much healthy as I would have done in the past.
So I know how to do it. Back on the wagon.... I feel Pip's boot in the vicinity! Yikes!
Onward, ladies!
