Hi, my name is Niko... i am an alcoholic with no life... i have 4 kids and no wife as she left a couple of years ago with an italian millionairre. i take my anger out on the kids and I need help. please help me.9

Hello all....I don't know where to start or how much I am comfortable sharing right now, but lets say that I need to go AF...like most, moderation does not work for me as it snowballs to more than I should and then I end up regretting and hating myself in the morning. After a family loss a year and a half ago, I lost weight and was in great shape. Fast forward a year and it is all back on and am miserable. I need to make a change and decided that I am going to get back to eating healthy and getting back into shape, which also means to go AF. Today would be day one for me....I look forward to brighter days ahead.7

that sound rough. what are you doing now to facilitate your sobriety now?
@Qkrep moderation doesn't work for every one and that's ok. welcome3 -

Niko... it sounds like you're ready to start being kind to yourself and others. Today can be Day #1 if you want it to be! You have admitted that you're unkind to your children, which is the first step. If you can RECOGNIZE it, you can CHANGE it. How can we help? This is a very supportive atmosphere. Reach out to us... we're here to help.

Thank you to all the people that share their thoughts here it's very helpful. I've been AF for 15 days which makes me feel empowered but I've not experienced the clarity and energy and any weight loss that I thought would start happening. Just feel a vague dull feeling. What are your experiences when did you start to feel better.4

@rory0516 You look like you're youngish according to your pic. Awesome that you've made such a wise decision to go AF & sounds like it's a life plan for you I'm thinking you have some valuable insights for our group here. We're all at varying stages of sobriety & love to hear everyone's comments. Please continue to post when the urge hits.
@EFT17220531 Hi Niko. Life sucks!! sometimes, but it doesn't have to be your future. Have you talked to your doc about some family counselling? I'm thinking you're likely not the only one in your Fam to have some anger issues. I'm sure your kids have their own feelings around your situation. I hope you can reach out to someone who can provide some practical help to deal with your anger differently. Or call a crisis line if you have something like that in your part of the world...sounds like you need some support asap so you don't continue to take your anger out on your kids...not fair to them. Hoping the best for you. Keep us posted.
@Bobby959 Everyone is unique in their healing process & depending on how long & how much you drank etc, your experience will be unique to you. I'd suggest checking out Craig Beck, Annie Grace or Alcohol Mastery...all kinds of videos that can support your decision to go AF. In fact, all of the above have videos talking about what to expect when you stop drinking & the physical changes you can expect. Hope this helps.4 -

I know how you’re feeling. Little by little, you will get that clarity and energy and even weight loss. I was very depressed and had bouts of anxiety for the first month and even into two months. It will come, I promise. You will feel better. I’m sure you already do, but know that it only gets better after these first few weeks. Xo2 -

Hi Niko, we are happy you posted today. You are not alone. Please reach out to a good friend, a therapist, even AA. This disease of alcoholism is very difficult to fight alone. You need support, so that you can be a positive role model for the kids. Sounds like your ex wife values money over family. That is a tragedy. But give your kids all the love you can. But you need support too. You’re in pain, too. Please reach out to someone near you; don’t try to do this alone. Xo
P.s. I went on Psychology Today website and saw they have a link to therapist in your area. Put in your zip code - not sure where you live. But that’s where I found my therapist.6 -

You’re right in accepting moderation is not your thing; it’s not my thing either no matter how good my intentions are. Take one day at a time. There will be brighter days ahead. You have what it takes - you have determination. Being honest with yourself is the first step. Sounds like you are ready - it will be hard, but it will be so worth it. Lean on us.5 -
Happy Sober Tuesday my peeps!4

Here's what being sober feels like so far... This is on top of Mt Lassen. It was windy and cold, but I was bundled up and cozy, and .... grateful to be alive.

Call the alcoholics anonymous hot line in your area right away until you find a therapist or the way to go or all of this. It is a very quick way to begin. I would recommend to ask to get to a meeting today or if there are none first thing in the am. Look online if the hotline is closed. Ask them to arrange a ride if you need it and hopefully they will get one..with the hotline. Get a sponsor--if only temporary--until you find one you like and ask for phone numbers of the guys at the meeting. Send around a paper and pen. That is what I did. Let us know how it is going. Hopefully you can get a sitter quick if you need one. I am sorry for the trouble. You will look like the bad guy in your kids eyes if you don't take drastic action quickly for their sake. There are also telephone meetings and Skype meetings etc, but get to face to face as much as possible, if you decide to continue the AA route. I did a lot of telephone meetings in the beginning. We wish you the best and let us know how it went. If you need to detox, you might have to commit to checking in somewhere. Do it quick, promise?? We care about you here.7 -
@mbaker566--thanks for that information! I can see myself being too connected with others. I didn't even know it. I am a sensitive type of caring person, but I take on too much a lot. When a person I know has a problem then I have more of a problem than I should etc....Leads to eating and used to be drinking. The eating is almost under control, but it is interesting what you said--that will help my growth. Thank you!4

THAT is humility in action!! which is a very good quality!! Especially when we are trying to change deeply ingrained behaviors. It shows that you are teachable! A good example for all of us! Thank YOU4 -

I am going out with the drinking girlfriends this Friday to a bar and listening to music. This is a place where I drank many times. I am hoping I can abstain. I know I probably shouldn't be going but I can't stay in my house forever.
So I wrote in my phone all the reasons not to drink and why to stay sober. And told myself to read this list that evening several times. I also can leave early or call my sober friend to talk. I want to go and see if I can do all the fun things I used to do but sober and aware.
Ps i found a great humorous speech by Sister Bea (famous AA speaker) on YouTube. The video is an audio and the screen is a big triangle picture if you search for it. So relatable !5 -
