I am new to trying a community. Have used MFP to record my food for over 420 days now. I am 63 and lost 50# since Dec. 2017, have 20 to go. I have the exercise thing down but the eating is daily work....little emotional eating there. Fighting a cold that my sweet 3 yr old granddaughter passed on. Ha. Look forward to getting to know new friends on this journey together as we head into 2019. I live in Springfield, MO.10

Welcome, I found this thread and MFP at age 62, I've been active ever since and lost weight and kept it off. Being part of a community has been a big part of my successful journey. I hope you will keep coming back. I, too, am suffering from a terrible cold and have been spending a lot of time in bed getting the rest I need to recover.

Thanks, I have heard your name mentioned a lot. I look forward to keeping this weight off. I too am resting. Feel better. I look forward to not doing this alone.😁2

barbie - that didn't work. What AM I doing wrong?

Ditto all you gals who keep Christmas decorations up at least til Epiphany. One year I kept them up 'til Independence Day but I was a single gal living in a studio then...
Heather I covet your retro clock but even more your Kitchen Aid.
Mary great pic of Shep, so very glad you reclaimed him.
Okie Owww!
Rori, NYKaren, KJ and Allie ((hugs))
Rebecca your scooters match Heather's clock and Kitchen Aid!
Beth relieved to hear the vet's favorable diagnosis, hope an rx change will ease the shedding.
Machka, cats' boxing day pics made me laugh out loud! If it were up to me, Everyone would leave their outside lights on at least until the dread Daylight Savings time... preferably 'til the equinox.
Barbie the babies in bed pics.
Gosh Michele, did I count 3 full sized and one table top tree? Wow! The trick with spoiler is to highlight all the links you want to hide, then click the dropdown next to the paragraph sign and select spoiler. Looks like only the first pic in your post was highlit when spoiler was selected. Welcome Michelle in WA, Gale from Tx, jaweeston from Mo!
Lighter, lovelies!

Michele - loved the photos, beautiful ornaments. I didn't bother much this year, put up the tree and that was about it, but you made it look so Christmassy I will definitely make more of an effort next year!
We are waiting for the hospital to let us know when my dad's medication has arrived. Apparently he's on a rare medication and there's a shortage (in the UK) he's supposed to take SEVEN tablets twice a day. At the moment he seems to be okay without it, but if he can do without it why was he prescribed it in the first place. It's an anti-fungal tablet as he has some sort of bug/infection in his stomach lungs and intestines, the drug has some quite serious side effects too. We can only hope the doctors know what they are doing. He's doing so much better than expected, he even spent sometime downstairs on Christmas Day, we know it can't last though so are taking it a day at a time.
Don't you just love cats, ours would always curl up in the smallest boxes too, mind you, now they have competition because Leah loves to tear up cardboard boxes! She had great fun tearing the box that had her Christmas toys in. She also loves running around playing with her squeaky toys, she doesn't let you trying to watch/listen to the TV spoil her fun! She runs around like a maniac

Michele I'm not Barbie, but...
All of the pictures have to be between the spoiler brackets.
I am going to spell spoiler backwards so I can demonstrate without actually causing a spoiler:
[reliosp] Michele, all of your images have to be placed between the two bracketed commands. [/reliops]
If you are posting a lot of pictures, the first bracketed command will be near the beginning of your post, and the second will be near the end of your post.
Your photos are fun. Is that a Death Star?2 -
Prayers and hugs to those who need them. I am sending out positive vibes to you.
Michele: I had to click on the individual pictures to view. You do like Christmas, lol! Love the collection of lighted buildings. (Later) Found your later post! You're getting there!
Heather: Love your retro look. I aspire to that, but hubster is much more trad!
Rebecca: Love the scooter. We call those figures 'Action Man' in UK.
Barbie: Hope that cold doesn't stick around to long.
Traditionally in the UK, we put our decorations up on Christmas Eve and take them down on Twelfth Night. (6 Jan). I have one of those colour wheel fibre optic trees which I keep up all year round.
Still trying to choose a word for 2019. Perhaps I should just DECIDE 😂😂😂

Good Morning! Nothing like dealing with computers this early in the morning. I set up my new laptop last night, then my DH reminded me that his wasn't working with fitbit. I have now spent my hot tub time getting his all fixed up. He can do a few things on it, but limited sight makes it harder (and stubbornness). Trust me when I say he can find things on ebay, amazon, and the ford store just fine. He is getting better, but somethings are beyond his understanding at this point. He still has a flip phone and refuses to go to a new style that might have features to assist him. Why does he need them he says, he has me.
I will catch up on reading one of these days. As I said life has been crazy since September. I have to get ready for work now, but will hopefully get a chance to update y'all as I will be off work from 2 pm Saturday until 9 am on Wednesday with NO plans. YAY!
My Christmas was awesome. From the short glimpse, it looks like everyone else's was too. No plans for New Years that I know of. My youngest daughter and her family are staying home this year. Our friends that usually come over have been sick for the past month! They can't come over unless healthy. Quiet one at home. Maybe SIL will come up.
Have a great day! Make the best choices you can. Smile at strangers!
Man, I have missed you all!
Kylia in Rainy and Grey Ohio4 -
Morning, afternoon and evening, everyone,
Kylia - so good to see you back!
Mary - good to see you, too, and I'm so sorry for your losses. You've been missed! And Shep is just beautiful.
Rori - glad you're taking advantage of what's near you. I think of you often.
Michele in NC - the pics were beautiful.
Allie - I hope the new year brings peace and joy, to you and to all of us.
To all who are new - welcome! In a few days, Barbie will start another thread, as we start a clean slate each month. She'll post the link on December 31. Look forward to seeing you here and in the new year! Tell us what name you prefer to be known as, and where we can place you... and step into the conversation wherever you choose.
I have been reading all along, not posting the last few days, as I went into my own limited form of hibernation, I guess. A three-hour nap yesterday afternoon seems to have finally topped me up on my sleeping tank, whatever that means.
Enjoyed the time with family who came in on Sunday, stayed until Christmas morning, very low key, no special celebrations, just pleasant and undemanding. Sat down and played Cards Against Humanity with them both evenings and laughed until our faces hurt. It was fast, furious, but don't play it if you can't handle a dirty word, 'cause it uses all of them. A lot.
Our 25-year-old son purchased his nonrefundable ticket yesterday to go to Coos Bay, OR, for school. He leaves March 24. He chose where to go, he chose what field he wants to study, he's building his own future instead of letting anyone say, "Go here, go there." He chose to start at community college level, which I think is a good idea--he was a "barely got by" student in high school, and I think a slightly less demanding introduction to the next phase of education is a very good idea. From there, he plans to go to Oregon State University in Corvallis for fermentation sciences. He's going back on the GI Bill, so everything paid for, and Oregon schools don't differentiate between in-state and out-of-state tuition, one reason for his choice. Plus, he graduated from high school there, and still has friends there. His divorce will also be final the first week of January, and I think he feels as if he's shedding his burdens, one by one, to go into the next phase free of old baggage. Proud of him--it was barely a year ago that I was on the phone trying to talk him out of the dark place he'd fallen into, and was scared we'd lose him.
Don't think I'm a saint about all this, though. My patience is thinning rapidly, and I swear, if I hear his detailed plan one more time for how he's going to do all this, I may run from the house screaming and clutch the nearest fencepost to keep from strangling him. As positive as everything he's doing is, and as much as I love him, I'm ready for him to go... And I'll miss him, too. It's possible that the essence of being a parent (or just a grown-up) is being able to have two completely opposing ideas in your head and only expressing one of them.
Gained the same five pounds back that I've been battling for months, and just got my eating back under control these last two days, and took one back off. Just trying to get to the new year without going up a size at this point. Remembering once more that control starts now, not the next meal, not Monday, not January 1. Now.
Love y'all!
Lisa in AR9 -
exactly Lisa you expressed my parenting sentiments and how I am feeling about my food intake lately. So better choices start now, not Jan 1. Glad the cheesecake I made is all gone (how it disappeared so quickly is a mystery ).
Lots of puttering today, happy that I slept in this a.m. now on to the second cup of coffee.
NYKAREN0 -
I was doing weight watchers but got nowhere and my three months where up. Didn’t want to waste more money. Joining Tops. Good support a lot cheaper. Will be my weigh in accountability once a week. I starting tracking with my plate. They don’t have a group like this for woman fifty and over. I think I will try this app. For health reasons I really have to get serious about eating healthier!5

Good morning! Happy Friday! I am enjoying the spoiler tutorial. I have never tried it, but I should before I forget what exactly to do. I am sure I post photos that not everyone wants to look at (my daycare crafts and activities). I will never put Joaquin in a spoiler, though. Just as I would hope you all would never put your biggest loves in a spoiler (human or animal). Waaaay too special for that!
Okie- I got a giggle over your warning about "gross stuff" under the spoiler. YOu do know that posting those words is like encouragement to people like me?! I just had to look and I must say, I was disappointed. lol I expected a mangled foot. It was an impressive sized blister, I am sure! Long ago, I saw an issue of Sports Illustrated that showed photographs of athlete's bodies (different body parts); just to show the crazy things that happen to their bodies due to their profession. Like they showed a ballet dancer's feet (not pretty), a runner's feet (also not pretty), a gymnasts hands (not pretty), a boxer's face (not pretty)...it really put things into perspective. We expect athletes to have this remarkable body (and as a whole they do) but there is always something that ends up bearing the brunt of all of that physicality. I remember when I first started running, I lost toe nails! I had read enough that I knew that was a possibility, so when it happened, I was thrilled! Like I was now in some crazy exclusive club! Yea!
Kylia - Welcome back!
Rori- Your winter get away sounds fantastic! Two hours away, is pretty close!
Margaret- I love your little snow doves! So adorable!
Rebecca- Your GI Joe on the scooter reminds me of that movie Welcome to Marwen. I haven't seen it yet, but probably will rent it when it comes out on dvd.
Heather- I think writing this next segment of your memoir is going to be harder than the last. You have reached those formative years. BUT I am SO happy you have a new town to explore and hopefully take you out of the past and bring you some peace and gratitude for where you are now! (I am not saying your aren't grateful now; just that when we get depressed/blue sometimes we need visual reminders as to how wonderful things are for us) I am glad you have that!
Machka - Love the boxing day kitties! lol
Talked to daughter Lauren yesterday, Joaquin's ear infection never fully went away and it is back again, full force! Poor baby. She sent me a picture of them having breakfast at Starbucks on Christmas Eve morning and I messaged her that he looks sick. She replied back that he is fine. Two days later he has a 102 fever. She now says she is just going to send me photos of him so I can diagnose him. lol You mamas know how it is, when you just look at a child's eyes and you can see that they aren't feeling great?! Yeah. That look. Anyway, he is now on a stronger antibiotic. Fingers crossed this kicks it out of his system.
Here he is taking a ride in the stroller, through the neighborhood to look at Christmas displays.
Now to try the spoiler for something non-joaquin:
Let's see if this old dog learned something new. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)
