@tifano Thank you for your encouraging words for all of us. Even though AA may not be for everyone, I see its tremendous benefit for me personally. Even though I stumbled yesterday, I will dust myself off and try yet again, and again and again.
I will never give up on me. And I will never give up on you. We thrive with support from other likeminded people. So, thanks for your messages. And thanks to everyone for hugs, love and words.
I’m far past hiding my alcohol issues, which is why I woke up, opened one eye and typed you all this morning. We are all a work in progress. I love new beginnings like today, January 1st. There are several Dry January apps that you might like to try.
Welcome to the new friends who posted and shared their thoughts. This thread is magical, because it is a safety net from judgment. Keep on coming back. Post often. Share your thoughts. I know that this thread and the “less alcohol” thread has transformed my life in 2018. Overall, I had many sober days last year than in the past 30 years. For the younger folks out there, I wish I had tried to become sober much earlier in my life. It would have saved me from regrets, heartache, and pain. BUT I think I went through all that to be who I am today. I am better for those struggles.
@JenT304 Thanks for this Sober Thread! Much love to you.
@NormInv I like the beard! Looks great!
@MrSunshinez Happy sober birthday! Best gift was probably no hangover!
@KristaFIRE Welcome
@Ke22yB Always inspiring to hear from you.
@lorrainequiche59 and @salleewins Love your ideas and thoughts. Xo
@whitpauly Every year, I think of a new mantra or saying for the year. I will work on that today and tomorrow. Words to guide me. You made me smile when you said “chug it chug it”. Just like Tifano mentioned who would leave a glass of wine half filled. I never could do that.
@kcn2bluesky Congrats on ONE year. Amazing! And I’m so happy also for the little child in your picture; the benefits of AF living extend in multitudes to our family.
I’m sorry if I missed anyone; I like to thank you all. I took a hot bath but when I was in the water , the movement of the water made me nauseous. I can’t wait to feel better tomorrow!11 -
WOW and HUGS to all...fantastic comments!!!!2

Hi, all - mostly a lurker (I lurk A LOT, like I am daily reading and “liking” posts) and I wanted to thank you all for your honesty and encouragement. Survived my first sober Bermuda Triangle
Happy 2019 to all of you beautiful people!7 -
@MrSunshinez great going on 3 days! I know how hard it was for me to get 1 day. Just keep stringing them together one day at a time. Do what has worked. At times I would count, then I wouldn't count, then count the days again.......
I forgot and I better do this again this year to help me remain AF: on more vulnerable days of the year, I won't be passing by liquor stores so casually. I won't be turning my head to look at the lights flashing at the store. I will work on putting thoughts of alcohol more quickly out of my head and not dwell there a bit longer than I should. There are times that I won't go in the Dollar Store because it is only a few doors down from a liquor store. I played a bit with fire at times this year and went anyways to the Dollar Store plaza even though I was feeling more vulnerable to falling. There are times that I was successful in saying and doing what I needed to do so I will be sure to step up my game again.
I will also keep going with a meeting a week at AA and more if I feel I could drink easier. I will continue my mostly daily phone meeting for AA. My work schedule changed so much so many times, that I couldn't go to my favorite meetings as much, but I have picked a day and meeting once again and I will work on a back-up plan.
I will keep working on letting go of the past and not dwelling there so long and its many disappointments by accepting what has happened even though I didn't like it and not dwell so much on the future either that I don't live the current day.
I think I will leave my goals to alcohol related for now or this post will turn into a chapter.
Happy New Year!

Hello to all, Happy to see an AF thread/group. I’ve failed at a lot of things over the years but in particular Staying Sober and Losing weight. I’m one thousand percent positive after countless fails that I cannot continue to drink and stay disciplined enough to live a healthy lifestyle and achieve my fitness goals. Good luck to everyone that’s embarking on an AF healthier 2019.
Let’s get it...8 -

Yikes - out for a few days and over 100 new messages. Not going to pretend I caught up with all of them. tooling along doing fine. I have a physical on Thursday. My primary was one of the fist people I came clean with. Besides the alcohol problem, I had been working her for opioids. I cried a little when I told her that and when I looked up she was crying too. I can never change to another practice unless she leaves. I will be happy to tell her I have stayed to course on keeping clean and on staying healthy. I have been seeing her for several years and this will be the healthiest I have ever been. I haven't been in for several months. It will be my "official" assessment of where I am at 60 also. I am pretty sure I will be happy with how it goes.12

Hi Friends,
Day 2 a success. Seems like such a climb to day 31. Treated myself to coffee after my tough workout and a burger no bun.
I keep seeing this book mentioned on this thread once or twice and then in the news. Here’s an excerpt. It’s called Sober Curious by the person who started “Club Soda” website.
https://books.google.com/books/about/Sober_Curious.html?id=HwVUDwAAQBAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=kp_read_button
Also, here’s a link to the Club Soda website. https://www.clubsoda.nyc/events/
This seems to be the event link in case some of you live in NYC. Looks cool.8 -
Just get to Day 10 and it is easy8

Thanks RubyRed for the excerpt from Sober Curious. I read it and it looks like a great book.3

I bought and read the book, and I really liked it.4

AA.
AA was very helpful during the first five years; I enjoyed helping other drunk *kitten*. About year five, I started to feel the environment was toxic and repetitive. Too many folks were in the court-ordered or threatened jail spiral. At about the same time, I meet my future wife who didn’t drink either, and I simply moved on from AA.
But, in the initial period of sobriety, it was nice to hear my story come from the lips of so many other drunks. We like to think we’re special, but in the end, not so special. Just another drunk.

Yes, AA is not perfect, but nothing is anyways, lol. I don't find this at the meetings I go to, what you mentioned very much @bulldogcpa. Maybe I am around the crowds mostly that are older. Yes there are some, but not many. Anyways whatever works for you as long as it is working.7
