OK! 3 weeks in and I am making progress my friends. So I am down about 9 pounds in 3 weeks and I have been by no means perfect or miserable. Just need to get better each week. I am at 257 and when I hit 250 I am going to get a personal trainer and ramp up the exercise. Thanks for all the encouragement and for your friendship!
@slider678 why punish yourself (plenty others around you do that for you I find 😉). Go ahead get get that trainer. What is the 7lbs difference going to make. May as well start being good to yourself now! Just saying.1 -
I'm 54 years old and am the heaviest I've ever been. I am eating 1300 calories a day and have not seen anything come off in a week. I admit, I have not been exercising. I've been logging my food and eating healthier, so that is the positive side of it. I'm in!!!!2

One thing I have been paying close attention too from the halfsizeme community is speaking to yourself like u would anyone else you love. I know that sound so sappy but makes so much sense! Look at your success and what you have accomplished!!!1 -

Hi everyone! I have had a bag of specialty popcorn in the pantry since Christmas. I opened it today and took one serving then threw the rest away. This would NOT have happened a few weeks ago! I call actions like this non-scale victories. Anyone care to share your non-scale victories? BTW- all you in CO. I'm in NE. Your neighbor😀 we enjoy visiting CO often.4

@skf1201 that is a big victory! My father was always someone who could eat just 1 sweet then put the rest away, whereas I've always had the finish off the bottle of gin in case it goes flat...
I was a bit disappointed with my weight loss, so decided to "get around" to measuring waist and hips. I'm very happy with an 18cm drop round the waist and a 13cm drop round the hips. Let's be honest if I had the figure I want I wouldn't really care what I weighed. Perhaps I need to step back and set targets which are more "healthy lifestyle" rather than purely weight.
Anyway lots on this weekend, so if I don't catch-up with you have a great one! And remember to ask yourself: is it a bad day or just a bad five minutes?5 -
At 56, I needed to make a change. Over the past ten years I’d magically crept up to 240#,,, at 5’10”, that was porky. So I underwent bariatrc sleeve surgery on Nov 7th.
This morning I was 194#. My goal is 170#.
During tax season it is/will be tough to maintain the activity level, but I have the luxury of working from a home office with s treadmill in the basement, that I’ve logged an hour a day, since the surgery.
Progress not perfection.8 -

Well today is the first day I feel my clothes a little looser. My trusty fat man belt isn’t so snug. 21+ days in and feel like I am making progress! Have a great weekend!9 -

Hi. I hear the frustration so maybe this will help? Exercise improves your health but consuming less calories than you take in is how you lose weight. Of course exercising burns more cals so you can eat more. If you are taking in 1300 cals a day and you are burning more than that then you have to lose weight....its just a fact, and it is unrelated to exercise. I struggle with weighing and measuring everything to get a true calorie count, I find it tedious. Portion size is always a struggle for me. You?0 -

I'm struggling trying not to go back to my old ways of eating & staying motivated to exercise. I'm afraid of gaining it back if i don't change my ways of eating, it's not easy. I still need to loose another 120 .1 -
I need to get back into a habit I had established for a good while in ‘17 - Every time I get bummed out or emotional or too into my head I’d go to the Y and walk, dance or swim. Do y’all have go-to tricks to increase activity and get you more mentally positive? I gained 10 pounds over the holidays and I’m livid - I hadn’t gained holiday weight in years.1

Went to a family potluck today. Had to make a WAG on the calories/amounts, but I logged everything anyway. Got a hilly hike in before dark. All in all, a good day!5

Count me in. Started up with MFP again, slowly logging food. I gained 10 pounds since last year but I would like to lose about 20 pounds for my height. Anyone who wants to friend me, I’m in since I only have five friends so far. 😭😂3

Get some workout partners. I lift with four other guys. They are merciless if you miss a workout.
And I have a schedule that I keep to for my solo workouts. Tasks on the schedule get done - even if it's only a 30 minute walk.

More exercise and more water is my plan this year, This morning the weight was down a bit more again.4

Maybe try not thinking of your 'old' way as something you even want. The mind is powerful. I telll myself "Don't look behind you; you're not going that way" So instead of looking back, look toward new experiences and challenges that aren't just about food but about new freedom and adventure.5 -

So I am doing pretty good, have good losses on the scale, my appetite is under control, still consuming too many calories in alcohol but my booze consumption is way down. So now I will be starting to exercise more. In the past when I do this my appetite goes crazy. Do you guys think I am better off just walking an hour a day (like I have neen this month) and stay on the losing track or start working my fitness with more serious exercise knowing my appetite will increase? I am kind of nervous about this. Thoughts?

Well, if your body is feeling like it wants to do more exercise ... then I'd say do it! Start with just one day of doing something different than walking.
But, if you want to spend another month of only walking. That's fine. You can try increasing your pace or doing more hills perhaps, or walking a little longer? Or, just do what you've been doing - until you feel like you can handle the increased exercise and what it may bring in terms of your appetite.
Just a note - if you continue to do the same exercise in the same way, your body will get used to it - and become more efficient at it. You won't burn as many calories. But, it's still 100% better than doing nothing.4 -

I tend to eat in quantity, that "full" feeling rarely registers. When I had some dental work done, and my jaw was numb and had to eat really carefully/ie slow, that was the first time it sank in.

You might be surprised about your appetite when you increase exercise. Yes, appetite may increase some, but if you are increasing amount of exercise and/or intensity -- you may need more food/fuel, as well, i.e., food consumption may not dramatically increase, rather, increase in proportion to the increased activity.
Regardless of the exercise, and walking is great -- people are most successful if they are continually doing something that they enjoy, especially if they "mix it up" a bit!

Just found this group; it looks like a good bunch.
I've been here on MFP for a few years. Some stints I logged in everyday for over six months. Recently, I would log in, start journaling my weight and food intake for a couple of days and then I'd fall by the wayside for a couple of weeks. Then it would start all over again.
I stepped on the scale this morning, after not weighing myself for several weeks and man, I'm up there. Back at my heaviest ever. I need to drop 50 pounds. In the not so distant past, I could drop 20 pretty easily. So I'm gonna start with a 25-pound goal by April.7
