Hi
I had a lovely day out in London. Went with a group of ladies I'm getting to know and one good friend - a nice surprise we were booked in first class on the train going down to London and had breakfast provided. Pity as I'd had a rushed slice of toast whilst getting ready!! But it was nice to have a cup of tea and a yogurt.
The Dior exhibition was interesting, we were amazed at how small the waists were in the 30s and 40s. Some of the dress designs would not look out of place nowadays, but some of them were a bit outlandish and obviously just for the cat walk and not for "normal" people. We saw dresses worn by film stars at premiers/award ceremonies etc
We had a bite to eat and then on for a tour of the Royal Albert Hall. The monument to Prince Albert across the road from the Hall is amazing, all gold and shining in the sunlight. Our tour guide showed us around, we had a look in the Royal Box where the Queen and royalty sit. He explained that they change the chairs and decorate it etc when the Queen is there. We were lucky enough to see Cirque de Solei rehearsing and spent a bit of time watching them. I really enjoyed it.
We went on the underground (tube) to Covent Garden. What an experience that was the train was full so we stood in the aisle and when it stopped at another station I thought no one can fit in here, but half a dozen people squeezed on and same at the next station! Talk about up close and personal.
We had a lovely meal at the Palm Court or something and then back to the underground to get to the station, our train was delayed a little, we eventually got back to York around 10:30 p.m. I was ready for bed
I would love to go again and see a bit more of London, we didn't have a lot of time as by the time we'd finished at the Dior exhibition it was time to travel to the Royal Albert Hall. I'd have liked to have taken some more photographs but the girl who organised it all was marching off ahead and we were frightened we'd lose her as we had no idea where we were going.
Best get ready, I'm looking after my dad today whilst mum goes shopping. She didn't sound in the best of moods when she called earlier.

Heather thanks for letting me know your meal times and approx. calories allocated.
You have also given me a few ideas, now I have retired I'm going to try and ease off the ready meals and cook from scratch using frozen veggies etc. I must admit the ready meals are mainly for my son when he come home from work late at night, but I could leave him something in the instant pot instead. Healthier for both of us!

So glad you had a lovely time in London, Viv. The tube can be horrific at peak times, even for Londoners like me. I try to avoid rush hours. You had good weather for your day out.
With regard to all round exercise. It is very important to 'cross train' and not just do one thing all the time. Some cardiovascular, some strength training and some flexibility. I do all three every day, but I should think three times a week would be sufficient. My son 'overtrained' for his half marathon and strained his Achilles tendon. His sports therapist told him to vary his training, so he is now doing swimming and coming to our house to use the elliptical. He also has a PT for stretching etc. Just running three or four times a week wasn't working for his body.
I do my machines for cardio, mat work for pilates/yoga flexibilty and body weight strength, plus weights for strength. The last two are done on my bedroom on a yoga mat, so you don't need much space to make a huge difference.
Yesterday's dancing has made my calves a bit stiff and I can still feel my knee from Tuesday's Swing dancing, but I hope I am up to my first "run" (jog/shuffle) in three weeks this afternoon. The weather is glorious!
This morning I am going to the dentist.

Good morning all! Happy Friday! I have been reading posts, but have just been too busy/tired to comment. Shoveling was my workout for a few mornings and that always sets me behind schedule. I've had a couple of "snags" that I have had to handle. One is with my new family in the evenings. I have had those two brothers for a month now and the mama still hasn't submitted her paperwork to the state for assistance. At our initial meeting,I told her I would wait for payment until we found out if she was approved (which is what I do for all of my financially strapped families). Well, I am more than a little pissed, and told her last night that beginning Monday she will need to show proof of paperwork submission or she needs to pay in full at the beginning of the week. She was very apologetic and I know she is busy, but paying some one you depend on is something for which you find the time. Second "snag" was with my DH, Tim. I wish I were as kind and understanding and sympathetic as you ladies are with your disabled husbands; but I have had it. I told him that #1 The constant complaining about all of his health issues has got to stop. Because he is unwilling to take any advice or even go see another doctor; I do NOT want to hear any of it anymore. Suck it up, Buttercup. #2 The paranoia about me not loving him or being in love with him anymore has got to stop. The lack of intimacy lately has everything to do with the fact that I am so freaking tired and the fact that his complaining is NOT a turn on. #3 I told him that he either has to get a job (any job) or apply and get disability, because I might be able to do these long hours for a year or two; but that is my limit.
Okay, vent over. I imagine this ^ was also what was preventing me from posting this week. Got a little case of feeling sorry for myself.
Lisa- I was stunned with your knee surgery picture! ( I love medical stuff and don't find it gory) It is amazing after so much trauma that your knee is responding and recovering! Good luck with your presentation!
Heather- I wasn't aware that you do yoga every day. How long do you do it? Do you think 15 minutes would be enough time, if one did it daily? I have a basic yoga dvd and have been thinking about trying it again. My flexibility is in the toilet, right now. I used to be very flexible, up until two or three years ago, and now my body is in "statue" mode.
Cross-training- When I ran, I also biked and swam two -three times a week. (I was able to fit both the biking and swimming in, only because I biked to and from the pool.) The swimming really helped keep things stretched out, strong, and limber; not to mention the cardio benefits from doing laps in the pool.
Tracey- Wow! Thank you for your kind offer on the book deco! Let me go back and find the picture you posted and I will let you know about the details. I was just thinking about seeing if our library has a Cricut I could check out and mess around with. I have never used one before.
Rori- Sending all of my love to you! I only have to deal with medicine induced memory issues. I am sure I would not handle dementia with the grace that you have shown. (((hugs)))
Sending love to all of the rest. I have run out of time again! Grateful today that it is FRIDAY! I work the weekend; but much shorter hours. Relief! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)9 -
Oh Kelly! I can understand your frustration with Tim. I would agree that if someone isn't willing to try to make things better, then they need to stop complaining. Whatever the issue/problem is. Big HUGS to you. I hope he is able to make some changes to release some of the weight on your shoulders.
Unreal weather expected here in the Hill Country today. We are forecast to hit 88 today. Only mid 70's for the highs over the weekend though. I think I will sit on the back porch with my book and read for a while this afternoon to enjoy the weather. I might even put on some shorts and get my legs a little less white
Happy Friday Ladies!

KJ - sooooo glad to hear from you. I was beginning to worry.
I do around 12 mins of the strength and stretch type exercises. I do around 5 minutes of strength. Then I do a short weights routine. I would think that anything is better than nothing. Give it a go.
I totally understand your feelings about your husband. You are entitled to feel angry with him. Seeing a doctor would be a good first step. He is probably depressed.
That is not an excuse.
Love you my friend.

I understand completely. My ex-husband didn't like putting much effort into work while I worked as many as 4 jobs at a time, plus trying to get as much education as I could to get myself into a better place. I was doing hours like you are. I paid for him to get some qualifications and he finally got a decent job which lasted about a month or 6 weeks, when he came home one day, lay down on the sofa, and informed me that he was tired of that job and wasn't going to work again for at least 3 months ... maybe more. I was earning enough for the both of us, and could get more work if we needed more.
I can tell you right now, I was not kind, understanding and sympathetic.
In my current situation, he's had a bad workplace accident, so there's coverage, and he wants to start working again, even a little bit. Meanwhile, he is doing a lot around the house. So it is easier to be kind, understanding and sympathetic.
Good for you for laying it on the line. Sometimes I think they need to hear exactly what we're thinking. I hope he listens. I know you must be exhausted.

Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
Oat bran cooking in the microwave, back on track (largely) eating wise, and lost all the hospital and sedentary weight, back to where I was when I went in for surgery ten days ago. PT has progressed to standing/walking/balancing exercises, and doing very well about walking on flat surfaces all around my home, much closer to a normal stride.
The pain... is a sine wave. Sometimes, at the peak, it feels unbearable, but in between, I have more and more hours that it is lower, and occasional ones where it doesn't hurt at all, and the lower segments of the wave are extending. Still testing my limits, and they're there, but livable. Lots of ice packs help.
I read everything, and think of you all often. I heard your voices in my head this morning when I made my choice of breakfast. You're a noisy bunch. Welcome to the new ones, it's an amazing space.
Love y'all,

My new Yaktrax made my gratitude list this morning. I could never have walked yesterday afternoon or before breakfast without them. The streets are mostly plowed but there is so much surprise ice and snow that I couldn't have walked in my regular shoes or boots.
Kelly, my husband went through a phase of complaining all the time. He'd get up every morning and walk into the dining room complaining about some ache or pain. One day he asked me if I thought he was a complainer and I told him what I'd observed. He's a lot better now. Good for you for speaking up.
Barbie from gradually warming NW WA3 -
Kelly Glad you spoke up, it's a two way street, marriage, DH used to complain and take me for granted---uh huh no can do bucko! If he was whining too much I would get out my tiny violin and play something super sad, it would always break the tension So continue standing strong--you are a superwoman but that doesn't mean you have everybody's back all the time.... they've got to have yours as well.
I'll be reading this week but little posting--we're heading to Florence Italy for the week. We'll be walking, riding the trains, drinking espresso and enjoying our togetherness, we are blessed.
NYKAREN6 -
NYKAREN - Oooooohhhh Florence! It was one of our first trips together.
I WENT FOR MY RUN!!!! Fabulous sunshine, blue, blue sea. It could have been April. I ended up running in my T shirt. I went further than usual because we stopped for the world's second best chocolate ice cream, which we ate, and also for some feta and spinach rolls to put in the freezer. Other than that I ran all the way, so in all it was well over 6k.
We passed a trio of women breastfeeding on a bench and a trio of mother's with two sets of triplets and one of twins in buggies. Lots of people strolling and sitting in the sunshine. People sitting at outside café tables. Felt like the South of France!
My dental experience was ok this morning. Three fillings to my broken teeth. Ugh. No drilling though. Because it is an NHS dentist (hard to find these days) it was ridiculously cheap. £37. A private dentist would have charged hundreds.
Tomorrow I have booked a vegetarian Indian restaurant I have been wanting to try. Highly recommended by my son. It's a bit quirky, but well reviewed. A family run place. Called Planet India (Hove) We are going for 7pm, but on Friday and Saturday you can have a 'Pre - Telly Thali' from 5 pm. (Their take on a pre-theatre supper) If it's a nice evening we can easily walk there along the seafront.
Viv - Have you been watching 'The Best House in Town'? It was about York this week. Today is the final. I hate myself for watching it in the afternoon but I find it very addictive and a compulsive watch. Five locals go round to other people's (volunteers) houses and comment on the decor etc. Because it was York, where my friend lives, I was especially interested.

Michele - Sorry your weather is not well, that dampens a trip easily. Friends of ours just went on their dream vacation to Hawaii and it was too windy and rainy to be outside much for one whole week. I’ve been watching race stuff all week, being in Daytona would be my Hubby’s dream vacation after Europe.
Evelyn - What a great buy! So happy you found them.
Viv- sounds like a great trip, hope you get to go again some day. Hopefully your Mom’s mood lightens after s day out.
Kelly - I don’t think that you are asking too much of Tim at all. Hugs to you. Just let me know I would be happy to do it for you, no rush.
Machka - I wouldn’t have been kind or sympathetic in that situation either. My husband struggled keeping a job for 6 years and I was working full time. He was looking for work each time he was laid off, but I don’t feel he looked hard enough. I became very resentful.
Karen - have an amazing trip!
I watched a talk show a week or two ago and the subject was all about heart health for women. A physical trainer that was speaking said that you need to do all 3, cardio, strength and stretching but the most important was stretching as without that you get injured in the other two. I need to take heed. I have only been walking.
Yesterday I got the main body of Kaitlyn’s invitations printed and cut. I still need to stain 100 wooden hearts and print and cut the cards with information for the back pocket to be ready to assemble on Sunday. I will stain the hearts today after I go find 16 more rolls of lace.
Thankfully our car is working as I feel I’ll be driving a lot today!
Have s great day everyone.

My first husband was, by the end of our marriage, a complete and utter hypochondriac. Or at least, he would have been, but he really DID have all those things wrong with him. Oddly enough, my current and final husband's ex-wife was exactly the same. Experimental surgeries, lots of doctors who said "We've never seen anything like this," on both sides. And, for both, it was their main topic of conversation. Asking my ex- "How are you," would open the floodgates every time.
I am fortunate, though, that both my husbands have been worker bees. The five months of pure child care for the grandbabies nearly pushed my current husband round the bend, and he was awfully glad to go back to work when we got here to Arkansas. Not bragging - just blessing my lucky stars I found him!
Love y'all,
Lisa in Arkansas

Karen: I am happy to see your post.
Shannon in Rural Ontario, CAN: Some names are used again and again. Often pioneers have named their new home after their old one and it appears Ontario is one of those names. Two of my cousins live in Ontario, Oregon.
Sharon near Seattle: Building strength is good and increasing steps is a good way to get there. I’m happy that you are working on it. :flowerforyou:
Yvonne: We didn’t do anything for Valentine’s Day either. We are not fond of crowds. We may go out to lunch today as a Valentines treat.
M in OZ: I am delighted that you were able to get into a sports doctor. His tests and diagnosis will undoubtedly help you to do the things needed to heal. I looked at the stretches online. I use a strap in yoga that allows me to stretch my tendon and gives good support. Mine is a woven material and I let my hands slide to a point where I’m stretching comfortably. The sports center also has stretchy rubber “straps” that aid with stretching legs and tendons. Both of the photos you posted look like good practices. I agree with Heather that a good yoga class could be beneficial if one is available to you. Your flowers are gorgeous.
Michele: I hope you and Vince both enjoy your time in Florida. We occasionally watch the race on TV and have the wonderful opportunity to set the sound levels to our personal comfort level. Shopping at a nearby mall would be more fun than enduring the racing noise. :flowerforyou:
I’m off to yoga. I’ll get some calories burned and enjoy the company of the class. 90+ percent of us are 50+. I like the class and the social aspect of working out with friendy acquaintances & friends, too.

Good afternoon Ladies - Hubs did good for Valentines Day. He sent me two dozen roses last week (from Costco where the price is great when you pre-order and are OK with delivery before Valentines Day). They are still beautiful today. We chose not to go out to dinner, but he surprised me with smoked turkey and smoked brisket that I ate on the side of a big green salad. He put his on the salad, I wanted to enjoy the bbq on its own. Since I am as he calls it, in the zone on getting my holiday weight off, he let me decide if we went out or not. I'm not a fan of fighting the crowded restaurants on the actual day.
Scale moved in my favor again today! Yeah for eating as I should!
