I will catch back up......I have been busy with a parts project at work which has included time in the evening.
Aubrey has been re-admitted to Hopkins. Pulmonary vein stenosis. They are going to try ballooning next week. I am sad and concerned for my brother and his family. Between Aubrey, our Aunt, his MIL with Alzheimer's at 83, and his FIL who is 90, it is a rough beginning to 2019. Prayers and warm thoughts please.
Thank you all for your support! I know you have my back. Thank you!

Kylia ~ Prayers for your brother's family and especially Aubrey.
Janet ~ Matthew is one handsome little boy. Bet he takes after his beautiful great grandma!
Kelly ~ Hope your rant gave your DH a wake-up call. What does he do all day while you are doing child care? Could he find a job working from home?
Allie ~ Maybe the cameras are a good idea. There was a shooting in a dentist's office here a couple of weeks ago. An angry man came in to shoot his wife. I don't remember if anyone died or not. Sorry you are having to do Mary's work.

Vicki- I love purple Roses! Unfortunately the ones available weren't too pretty, so my husband got me a dozen red for work. He also got me a mixed bouquet for home. The Rose's will come home today at end of work day.

Kylia-
I used to have a bush of Ebb Tide roses (look them up!) ... they are a beautiful purple colour and smell sweet but almost spicy like cinnamon or nutmeg or something.
I'd love to get another bush of them sometime.

Allie Benjamin Moore is a good paint. I did have stiicker shock when I painted our basement the price of good paint. I did wait for a sale that helped. It is best to use good paint it has more pigment in it and covers better.
The labor is more pricey than the paint. Are you buying the paint or does the painter? They often are able to get a discount on the paint just make sure he/she is buying a good paint. If you want to make sure you are getting the right paint you could go to where they buy the paint and tell clerk you are buying the paint for your painter to do the job. I did this a Hirshfields and they gave me a discount on the paint.

Distance Cycling: 15.19km
Elevation: 106m
Moving Time: 57:36
Elapsed Time: 1:01:01
Speed: Avg: 15.8km/h | Max: 24.1km/h
Given my hip issues, this was a little struggle, especially coming back into the strong sea breeze!!
After the ride, we went to the Volunteers' Meeting for the Tour de Tasmanie. http://www.tdt.bike/index.html
This is a "hell week"- like cycling event, with a 200 km, then a day off, a 300 km, then a day off, the 400 km, a day off and finally the 600 km which returns to Hobart.
There are a collection of riders from Australia, USA, and a few other places. We will be watching them travel around, and then my husband and I will be at the finish back in Hobart to welcome them in.
The Volunteers' Meeting was good and also gave us an opportunity to chat with a bunch of our cycling friends we haven't seen in a while. But I do miss being one of the riders.
From there we headed over to the Symphony Under The Stars.
For years it has been held in a particular park, and I casually mentioned to one of our friends that we were going to have to head up there after the meeting. Turns out she and her husband were going too, but she informed me that they had moved the venue to a different park!!! Good thing we chatted!! We would have gone to the wrong place!
It was good, but I think I would have preferred the other park, and our friends agreed.
So it was a big day for us ... a little tiring.
I was also roasting hot all day. It did get to 25C (77F) during the day, but that's not overly warm, and then dropped to 17C (63F) during the symphony, in the park, but for some reason I was melting. One of the other volunteers even shook my hand, and then commented how warm it was. I'm not sure what was going on ... my body left the furnace on?

Did Jari Love’s Ripped to the Core DVD. I haven’t planned any exercise for tomorrow because as I remember, last year we had to leave early to get to the races and I really didn’t have time to exercise. Update: since the races are starting later this year, we don't have to leave as early so I can get some exercise in
Went to WalMart early to get some candy on sale. I just like to have a little in the house. I’m lucky in that I can have just one small piece and be satisfied. At WalMart I looked for this yarn and I was very surprised at the limited selection they had. I’ll probably go to Hobby Lobby later today.
Evelyn – doesn’t it feel great when you get exactly what you want at a good price? Congrats on those chairs!
Heather – that’s why I do so many different DVD’s and other exercises. You’re so right, it isn’t good for the body to keep doing the same thing over and over. Eventually, your body gets used to the same thing and you wind up burning less calories. I like burning extra calories. I’m another one with real tight hamstrings. Even as a child, I could never touch my toes
At WalMart I found this shirt for St. Patty’s Day that I thought Vince would like me to have. Personally, I probably wouldn’t have bought it. Anyway it says “one lucky cat” and there’s a picture of a cat on the front. Vince liked it. Last night I found out that if you take your banana to Brewsters on Thurs, you get a banana split for ½ price and Vince has been talking about going to Brewsters. The shirt was in the girl’s department, but it was a size XXL so it fit me. Isn’t it sad that they need to have XXL’s in girls?
Lisa – I’ll try to be quieter. No promises, tho.
Barbie – I quickly looked at your picture and at first I thought it was a picture of Alf (remember him?). Then I looked twice
NYKaren – have a great trip! How long will you be gone?
Tracy – I did get to lay by the pool today. Being on the river we get the wind. But that’s also good when you are laying by the pool – there’s always a breeze. Sunday’s weather is looking pretty good, in the 80’s. Tomorrow is supposed to be cooler and windy. But I don’t mind…I’ll be at the mall!
Katla and everyone else – if you’re watching the race Sunday, I’ll wave. I’m sure you’ll see me <snicker>
Sharon – love the eyes on the cat. I, too, am amazed how happy things that I get at the Salvation Army give me such joy. Plus…they weren’t outrageously expensive
Went to Hobby Lobby. Believe it or not, they have a VERY limited supply of Red heart yarn. They have lots of some off-name brand. I wound up getting another brand in the color I thought the gingerbread man should be. I made the other half of the stocking last night. I’m hoping to work on the gingerbread man that goes on the front in time for this one lady here to look at. Unfortunately, I forgot my phone for my 40% off coupon so I walked back to the condo then went back to the store to buy the yarn. Hey, it saved me almost $2
We just went to the ceramic place here. I got 5 of the 7 dwarfs, a Donald Duck and a Winnie the Pooh. I know that I want more, but at $15 each, I’ll wait and get them later. Plus….she doesn’t have a lot poured. She said she probably could have it ready for me to take home, but rather than having her pour and rush to get it done for me, I just bought what she already had poured. If one of my friends comes there, I’ll have them pick up more for me. Or else I’ll have her pour them for me for the next time I get down here. Then went to Aldi since we needed a few things. Home for dinner and I’ll work on the gingerbread man.
Saturday here: Did 30 Minutes to Fitness DVD at the condo. Didn’t complete the bonus section since my laptop was running out of battery. The plan for tomorrow is to do Amy Dixon’s Breathless Body 2 DVD.
Janetr – you sure to know how to get my heart to stop. Matthew is so very handsome
Kathy in KY – good luck on your test
I agree, Katla. This is a great group where you can try something you never thought of, don’t try something, get advice, different ideas, the list goes on and on. Thank you Barbie
Kylia – prayers for Aubrey. She’s such a trooper
Will be leaving in a few for Daytona (and me to go shopping)
Michele in FL who will be driving north

Heather yes I did see one of the Best House in Town, Auntie Mai told me about it so I recorded it to watch later, as we were out dog walking.
I didn't realise it was a series. I'll have to download the other two episodes which were all in or near York (I think). The one I watched, there was a cottage that used to be near a railway station (or was the railway station?) it didn't win, but I liked that one the best. One was a massive house (that won) and the other was a large bungalow.
I love looking at other people's houses, I try to get ideas for our house. I laughed when Auntie Mai told me about it saying I don't think mine would win too much needs doing, but I'm getting there very very slowly. Seems people don't want work these days, I bit the bullet and tried to find someone to paint the hallway/staircase, so far nobody has even sent me a quote!!

Greetings,
Feb Goals:
*lose 10 lbs. (down 8lbs as of today)
*Attend water Aerobics 3x a week
*Unpack the fitbit and start walking
*Record ALL food in MFP
I stumbled upon your group under the heading of women ages 50+...You ladies are quite an inspiration and seem like a sincere, no nonsense group of women.
My name is Mary and I am just beginning this journey or weight loss and healthy living! My Goal is to lose 50 lbs by June, 2019 and 75 lbs by December 31, 2019. I've lost 8 lbs. so far this month, so I am thinking it might be doable.
I am curious as to what strategies you are using. Ive been staying within the macro limits of 25% carbs, 40% fats and 30% protein. I had my calories set at 1,500 but never seemed to reach that, so instead of continuing to add food and feel over stuffed... I dropped it down to 1,200 calories with the same macro percentages.
Something I am struggling with is exhaustion! I started officially on Feb. 4th in a Diabetes Prevention class so I am getting weekly support, but I am truly exhausted. Just had all my blood work done in early Feb, so I can rule out low iron and B's. I haven't really changed my food too much (all fresh, no processed) just moved around portions. Any suggestions would help.3 -
Kylia - so sorry to hear about Aubrey. Sending healing thoughts. Yes, what a tough 2019.

Katla I didn't get a PM from you, so I sent one to you. I don't know that I will be much help with a real estate question, but there may be others here who could be of help if I can't.
I have had some stuff occupying me lately...
Grandson has had a rough couple of weeks with algebra. Better now, but still a source of anxiety for him.
We are facing some cash flow issues because I have cut back on my work hours & I don't have a retirement financial plan in place yet. Transitioning into using retirement funds is going to pose a psychological dilemma for me. I need to make an appointment with an advisor to help me make the leap.
Our dog Bailey has congestive heart failure...some of you may remember that we had to take him to the veterinary emergency hospital for a cardiology evaluation 3 months ago. With medicine, he has been pretty well compensated, but the last 3 days he is coughing, breathing more rapidly, and tires easily. He doesn't have much appetite. We will try to get him in to the cardiologist Monday. I have a feeling he doesn't have a lot of time left. It is crushing me. He is my shadow. We still have our 2 girl Yorkies, Mabel & Mollie. We had to let our boy Yorkie Farley go last autumn after he fell from our deck. I am practical about these things, but get devastated.
All of it has left me a little teary.

Kylie, prayers and hugs.
Janet, oh my love that little Matthew, what a charmer and that shirt is just precious..
Barbi, I just want to say this group is so special as it stays away from discussions of politics and religion.
Mary, I also have 1200 as my daily calorie limit. I have begun to log every bite before it goes in my mouth. (Thanks Barbara) I learned that if I eat my calories in five small meals with two light snacks instead of three meals, I don’t experience the fatigue. I’m loosely following Dr. Mosley’s IF with calorie restrictions two days and I take a multivitamin daily. Has your tiredness appeared recently?
Second day of waking up to no new snow. Off for my second walk with Ella. Wishing everyone a great Saturday.

total cal burn for yesterday was 490. no workout at gym

Haven't added much since I came back 17 days ago. Looking at where I was in 2012 (was in the 180s, panicked and got down to 155). I remember back then being shocked at the ladies who was so excited to get under 200 pounds. Having been in the 130's most of my 30's and 40's I was shocked to have reached the 180s back then. Well all it took was 8 broken ribs in 2015 and another 6 in 2017 to enter me into the over 200 club. Shocking.
In June I'll turn 60. I was laid off of my job in March of last year, and will officially retire in 4 days. I don't really want to go back to work. Don't really have to either. My husband got laid off last year also, so we're both home now. I just had surgery where they removed my archilles, then a bone spur than reattached my archilles. It's been 8 weeks and I am limping around. Anyway, I decided that since I'd reached 205.6 pounds that there was no way I was going to gain more while convalescing this time. After a little effort I was down to 202.4 and that's the weight I put in when I came back to MFP 17 days ago. I weighed 199.8 this morning. 2.6 pounds in 17 days isn't much but it's under 200 and not bad for not being able to move much.
I've decided that when I'm walking better and the weather is warmer I am going to commit to going to the barn every day and work every horse even if it's only 20 minutes for each. I have 3 that need regular exercise. My newest is young and he will be the one I'll work on for respect on the growd and things like that. The other two just need to be lunged. But I'm thinking with the 3 hours of working horses combined with the barn chores, I ought to be able to get this weight moving.
I am looking forward to lots of riding and camping (my husband bought me a horse trailer with living quarters a year and a half ago). It seems to be a new era of my life, 60, heavy and retired. Soon to be 60, fit and having fun.
Cheryl in Northern Illinois

Mary, welcome. I hope you will a regular participant. I eat five small meals a day and focus on food that is nutrition dense (the most nutrition for the fewest calories). I eat more because I am more active. I walk my dogs first thing every morning and again after breakfast. When I watch TV with my husband I ride my recumbent exercise bike that's set in the right place for TV watching. I seek every opportunity to be active. I log everything I eat and routinely drink 64 ounces of water a day.
Karen in VA, I am so sorry to hear about your dog.
Betsy, there is a lot of ice on our roads and my wonderful Yaktrax allowed me to walk the dogs for almost two hours this morning. We are fortunate to live in a neighborhood that has routinely plowed the roads almost every day since the snow started.
Michele, you will have so much fun with all the new ceramics you bought.
We were very fortunate in finding a handyman. One day Jake looked out the window and saw a man on the roof next door cleaning the gutters. He asked the man about cleaning our roof and gutters and found out that he was a handyman of many talents. Besides cleaning our roof and gutters, he is the one who remodeled our kitchen to put in a stove and the pantry closet and repaired all the damage done by the water heater that was improperly installed by the former owners. When we wanted to buy a new TV, he and his assistant met us as Costco to transport the TV and cabinet to the house, then put the cabinet together, moved out the ancient TV in office, moved the living room TV to the office and installed the new TV and cabinet in the living room and helped us get the new system hooked up and started. He hauled all the debris from all the work to the dump. We couldn't have done any of this by ourselves.

Kylia - many good thoughts going up for Aubrey and your brother's family.
Karen in VA - the same for your shadow, Bailey. It's hard to even think of losing them.
MyPointHome - tell us your name and a little bit about yourself, and join right in. I'm not the person to ask re: macros, but can tell you that the initial jumpstart weight loss will slow... if you're mentally prepared for that, you will find yourself in a better place. Every time I've ever lost significant amounts of weight in my life, the graph drops sharply at the beginning, and then more slowly. Your body will think you're starving and start holding onto every calorie. That fatigue is often a sign as well, that your body is trying to tell you that you're in a famine, and need to conserve energy. Exercise will help a lot with that. None of this is said to in ANY way discourage you, just to help you prepare. If you haven't taken measurements, please do - they will often drop when weight loss progress seems to stall, as your body shifts things around. Much good luck to you, glad you're here. The support here is incredible.
Michele - I wouldn't have you any other way.
JanetR - what a gorgeous young man! Your family makes beautiful babies...
I'm taking today to simply stop. PT yesterday was... traumatic. Twisting motions and resistance added to the list of exercises left me with what felt like painful electrical shocks all evening, even WITH pain pills on board. I am taking today to just let things heal, and to stop hurting for a few moments, so I can get my mental and psychological feet, as well as my physical ones, solidly back on the ground. Tomorrow will be a better day.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR8 -
Hello Mary (mypointhome) Welcome to MFP.....I am finding the slow loss of lbs is best for me...been averaging a lb every 10 days at 1400 calories per day. Like you carbs are at 25% and so far it works for me. My first goal is to lose 60 lbs and if that happens we continue from there. I believe the reason the weight loss is working this time is the logging of each morsel and the portion control. I am at 92 days of logging and it has become a habit to do this and the portions are helped by the fact I keep the measuring cup, scale on the counter within reach. The exercise part is more difficult due t some health issues but keep moving as best I can. The one thing is don't get discouraged about not losing initially if that's so the case...for me I had to get the flu in early Nov. to kick start the 1st 4 lbs and then it started....... So read people's stories and glean what info is pertinent to your situation and keep going. Mary from Canada4

(((Kylia))) Prayers for your whole family.
Machka: Symphony under the stars sounds lovely. Could you have had a hotflash at the concert? :flowerforyou:
Mary: Welcome to a great group.
Karen in VA and NY Karen: I seem to have gotten mixed up with message sending. I had some questions about house hunting in VA and intended that message to go to Karen in VA. I have since realized that I goofed up in messages and apologize to both of you. I have also realized I need to let DS and DDIL work through house buying on their own. They’re both grownups. My family has always been full of advice givers and the advice is often unappreciated. It is time for me to step back from advice giving to my adult children. :ohwell:
Cari in N TX: Your whole family seems to be doing very well with diet & weight issues. It appears that you’re a good influence. Congratulations!
Mypointhome: I hope you’ll stick with us for support and encouragement.
(((Karen in VA))): I am so sorry that your pup Bailey is not doing well. Our pets are our fur children and it is hard seeing them struggle.
Cheryl in N IL: It looks as though you’re gearing up for good health and good fun. WTG!!!
(((Lisa in AR)))
I haven’t been out to the stable in weeks due to low energy. I need to get out there this weekend to at least visit Arrow, and maybe ride. I will be giving my friend who owns him a call & set something up that works for her.

Hubs and I drove over to Lampasas this morning and visited with an old friend for an hour. She had students there to compete in a Drama Tournament. Fun morning!!!
In the saga of a daily weigher, scale was up 1.2 lbs today. Why? Who knows. TTOM is quickly approaching so that might weigh in to it. It isn’t fat gain, and that’s all that matters. The water will come back off, probably in about 10 days. I just have to stay the course.
Okie in the TX Hill Country4 -
Barbie - I don’t talk about my goals or my diet and exercise with many in my real life. No matter how many times you say to someone, “everyone has something that works for them” as a polite way of telling them to be quiet. They just don’t get it and it ends up with me feeling judged and defeated. So now I don’t talk about what I do. I’ll listen to them go on about what “works for them” forever though.
Karen in VA - sorry to hear of your struggles, hope things settle soon for you.
Michele - can’t wait to see the finished dwarves and Donald, you are so talented at painting the ceramics.
Katla - giving advice to our grown children is hard thing to cut back, but when I follow through I’m refraining they seem to do well and if they falter come to me anyway.
I found the 16 rolls of lace I needed by going to 6 Michaels stores yesterday. I bought one for good measure. In the event someone cuts something wrong. I then stained 100 wooden hearts, sent a pic to my daughter, too light, stained again, sent a pic, too dark. I am now sanding lightly and taking the remaining stain to her house tonight. She promises she is not trying to be difficult. Neither am I, she can just do it.
I have the Grands today and they are anxious to start a project, so I should get on with it.

Federal refund into bank Wednesday, only 10 calendar days after filing. Woo HOO! Too bad it has to go for down payment on roof instead of somethings fun  but very grateful we had it. Will make the roof payments more affordable.
Shannon holding healing thoughts for your surgery. No complications and quick complete recovery. Did you have any painful stinging, sinusy reactions to any of the drops? Joe stopped taking the newest and will discuss with the Eye Dr in two weeks.
Barbie Yaktrax for Valentine's day, it! likewise your "loving discussions", loathe "surprise ice" with a passion.
Yvonne sorry but much as I love both beer and chocolate, drinking the combination doesn't appeal
Machka Sounds like that Sports Dr. knows his stuff. So glad the therapeutic exercises are more do-able and that you can include light cycling in your recovery.
Evelyn Brilliant "first ride" advice to Machka.
Michele a reconditioned original wii goes on ebay for about $50 with a 30 day return policy (vs Amazon 90 day warranty for $105). Think I might go for it as I really like the wii fit balance board and games. The rest of the games I bought just gather dust so will either try selling or donating them. What? Is that a decluttering opportunity? :noway: :laugh: Glad you are mindful of your sun time. As someone who's had skin cancer surgery 4 times... you know the rest ;}
Tracey keeping good thoughts for your dream come true job.
Viv ((hugs)) for you and your mom.
KJ hoping Tim really hears the home truths you presented. IMHO most men will push the limits until we stand up and say STOP! Recently read "Boundaries" by Cloud and Townsend. Found the basic reasoning sound, tho' the scriptural approach was a bit fundamentalist for my taste.
Heather "...anything is better than nothing..." true this!
Lisa while your knee pic truly made me shudder, I am in awe of your progress. Did I understand you to say you were making a presentation at work? In person?
NYKaren Florence ?!? My eyes are green. Safe travels and bon voyage!
Okie Yay for the scale moving in your favor, your Valentine's dinner sounds just right!
Joe surprised me with Champagne for Valentine's day so took a pass on line dancing to spend time with him snacking and bubbling. Predictable damage, but pleased with my investment

Karen good luck with planner!
One of the first things he/she should recommend is if possible have 6 months saved of what you typically spend it a month in an easily liquid account like bank or CD. They do have monthly CD's. We also have an account for home repairs and health problems that are unexpected. When this is not in place it makes you more vulnerable to falling into debt that is hard to work yourself out. I think this was a real eye opener for those federal workers who were suddenly without a pay check. You are creating your own safety net. In these times always a good idea. It gives you a sense of security no one can take from you.
Once you have that in place you will have to decide with the help of your planner how much you can take from your principal yearly as a percent. Now add up this with social security, pensions and annuities you have your annual income. How much you pay in taxes also needs to be considered. If your income is for IRA's there will be taxes on that money. Roth no. Be aware if you have a spouse your income may go down when they pass because of less social security and cut in pension depending on how they set up their pension.
Now you have your income it is time to budget and live within that budget.Again if you have a good planner they should be able to help you with this.
Remember if they recommend annuities to you they often earn a big commissions on those. Always ask about what the fees are for any investment they recommend. Sometimes the fees can be so high they will eat into your principal. The days of 10% on you savings and huge returns on the stock market are past. Their fees were not so noticeable when there was large returns on your principal.
My recent experience with buying the house for my son taught me you breath and their is a fee. Always pays to ask what they are.
What does this have to do with fitness. I do believe that being financially fit helps with your over health. I learned this the hard way watching my sister get into a financial disaster that robbed her of her health and eventually her life. I would not wish that on anyone.
