It's time for the March 2019 Running Challenge!
WARNING: Following this thread may be addictive; it gets very talkative...miss a day and you can be 50 posts behind. This is the most popular challenge on MFP. If you found us in the middle (or end) of the month, you're still very welcome to join in - no requirements or special invite needed. Once you post, that's it you're in. And yes, we do this every month.
You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to help keep you accountable, to enjoy a virtual post-run coffee with your fellow runners, and to make new friends and learn a few things.

We have members ranging from total beginners all the way to Boston Qualifiers and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch. You never need to be ashamed of your miles. If you are making the effort, you will find only support here.
Here are the details from last month that apply again:
Anybody want to join in for a running challenge? Set a goal here and update us every day. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (if creating one seems difficult, or you're like me and can't be bothered, then just type in your daily miles in this thread).
You can run, walk, or do treadmill - just be consistent. Don't let the high (or low) goals of others intimidate you. Some do 25 miles, others do 50, some go higher than that, some do lower; it's entirely your goal and therefore completely up to you. We help motivate each other, so what do you say? If you're new to running, set a low goal. If you're from a part of the world where miles aren't your thing, log your distances in KMs. And if you'd rather log your progress by time rather than distance, then you're entirely free to do that as well.
Feel free to set your goal now but wait until March 1, 2019 to start logging your runs!

There you will find lots of good info, and it's a place where everyone can talk to each other for further motivation. It's also a place to find help when there is a problem with this thread.

After you run, come into this thread and post what you did (don't forget to hit the star in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread). Simply keep a running tally of what you've done this month, and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chit-chat it up, even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things (sometimes even about running ). It's a very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time), talk about a recent or up-coming race, ask questions, provide answers, or just lurk-n-learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs? Follow the examples of many other challenge members. Even take a peek at last month's thread (posted above).

Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account at http://www.tickerfactory.com and create your ticker. Then you need to update it after you finish a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your PIN in that you set when you created your ticker account. Then, where it says "Your current cumulative value", there is an add button. Simply add the distance that you just did, and the cumulative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
After adding your new miles (or KMs) to your ticker, you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the image (img) tags around that link. So it will look something like the following (but removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker:
Use the link that ends in .png
Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
Remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
By the way, everyone here should consider themselves a runner no matter how fast or slow. There's no judgment, we all started somewhere. And no comparisons, except with your former self. Don't compare your Chapter 1 to somebody elses Chapter 20.

Since I created the Challenge for March I get to be first to post my goal! I am going for 50 on the presumption that I am healing and will be able to start a slow increase of my mileage from February!

I'm in for 200 miles. I'm on call for the first week of it though, so yeah.15

50 miles but I'll be on a school trip with my daughter for part of it so hopefully. I wish I could have 1 post without typos.8

I'm planning on upping my distance a little while keeping two rest days per week, so I'm in for 175 kilometers.8

My half plan calls for 91 miles in March if I do every single run religiously, including the days where I can either run or cross train. So for March I’m setting my goal for 80 miles with a stretch goal of 91 miles. I’m nervous because my highest mileage in a month ever was 60 miles.11

Hi, I am new to this challenge, and I am really just getting started, but I want to push myself and try for 40 miles for the month of March.13

I'll be aiming for 100 miles again. Or 160km, as we say in metric land.10

Slightly lower goal this month. While I will be walking miles a day over spring break, I will miss a little over a week of runs. Goal is 35 miles, which is what I should hit if I do every run I currently have planned.9

I've set conservative goals the last couple of months and surpassed them so I am going to go a little higher this month. I'm still going to be a little conservative though because my son will be moving to Japan in March and I may miss a run or two taking him to the airport and making sure all the stuff he needs to get done this month gets done. So I will set my goal for 80 miles for March and hope I can get it done.11

Five weekends this month!
I'm in for 180 miles. It will be tough with work being so crazy, but that's my goal. I've actually got 230 on my plan but I know that's a pipe dream.9 -
I am in, probably like 200+ if I can stay on plan... for a change12

Hi everyone! I had hoped to first joint this challenge in January, but I ended up injuring my knee on New Year's Day and was unable to run for a few weeks. I'm now back to normal and racking up the miles as I have my fourth half marathon on St. Patty's Day and my fifth half marathon at the end of April.
My goal for March is at least 80 miles.

I'm trying for 120km this month.10

In for 50 miles with stretch goal of 60. Real goal to stay uninjured while increasing my total mileage, with the intention of improving my 10k performance.8

I’m going to put myself down for 30 miles this month. With hopes I can actually hit it this time. (miles autocorrected to “lies” - my ipad apparently has seen how often I hit my goal... ugh)
But I’m more optimistic than my iPad, and still think My goal is valid because:
1- I have found occasional and limited access to treadmill, but access none the less, and
2- it has to be above zero at some point, right? Like, I’m not even asking for above freezing, it is winter after all, but above zero would be nice.13 -

My plans tell me I'm going to run 130km this month. I highly doubt this is actually going to happen, but I really hope to at least hit all my long runs, and run at least twice a week. Let's say 100km and take it from there.5

I'm setting myself a distance goal this month, but it's a very low one to hopefully hold myself back. Still in the recovery phase of not allowing myself to do as much as I want to. So, my goal for this month will be 40km.6

I’m not going to set a mileage goal because, if any of you read my last Feb post, you’ll see I am battling things/people that are preventing a lot of my runs. My goal is just to prep as beat as a i can for my half in April.11

I just started my 15k training plan this week, so my goal is 30 miles again, with a stretch goal of 35.

I am going to aim for 40 miles again for March seeing as I missed that amount in February. This will be where getting the miles in starts becoming a challenge until June as I know life is going to get in the way. I am hoping though I should have enough spare time this month to get those 40 miles in!5 -

There is no "rule"
Some of us just chat about it
Some of us have fancy graphical tickers
Some of us just post text updates
Some of us count walking, cycling and swimming too
It is whatever works best for you9 -

This is a great, crazy and supportive group that can help to keep you motivated. Fair warning, the thread moves very fast so if you blink you may be behind several pages. Don't feel obligated to go back and read it all but many of us do. We will also try to catch and respond to whatever questions there are and you may get a lot of responses 😁
