Are you familiar with machine quilting tutorials with Jeanne on FB? If not, She has lots of tutorials under FILES. If you are already FMQ then look at the feather your nest. She's also doing a row by row project. She's an outstanding teacher.
Yes -- I love her tutorials!! Here is a picture of the quilt I am working on now ... just sewing on the binding. I mostly do just stippling and loops .... I did one quilt where I used a stencil. But I love it. To some, they hate it, but I just cannot afford to send them to a longarmer, and I'm one where I kinda want to do everything myself. Very therapeutic! (don't look too closely .... remember, I am still learning FM!!)

1. log all food I may not always log my food here, since I am also using the WW website, but I am going to try just so I can keep track of calorie count. So if I have a happy face on logging my food ... it means, either here, or on the WW site, I did log.
2. drink plenty of water ... jan challenge 8+ c I think I am learning to drink more water ... especially in the evenings! Downfall is ... I am up 3-4x through the ite!

Ugh the fun continues here as my daughters tag-team on sickness bugs! Started yesterday well with them both heading to school after a Shrove Tuesday pancake breakfast. I headed off to work hopeful that I wouldn’t be called about the little one who had been ill the night before. I wasn’t- but I was called to pick up my older daughter who was poorly again! I’m so tired and stressed out from having to sort this out while managing a full-time job which doesn’t really have flexibility (you can’t just leave a class of 30 kids at short notice!!)
But all this tiredness and stress has led to me falling into poor food decisions. I’m making the start of Lent today as an opportunity to re-focus on my nutrition. I am committing to 40 days with no added sugar at all, and aiming to eat so that I can properly fuel my life and my exercise, not exercising to atone for my eating, if that makes any sense?! WOTY - balance!!
Tuesday goals recap:
- morning workout ✅
- Make pancake mix in case girls well enough for it! ✅ yay! Both well and both ate them up with lots of gratitude. Mummy points scored.
- Call parents for childcare help if needed ❎ not needed until it was too late to ask!
- Home at lunchtime for car (to go to hot yoga tonight if kids ok, to see little one if she’s at home) ✅ and ran it so extra steps/exercise 😊
- Ask to leave this evening’s meeting early if L at home ✅ except it was the other daughter who needed to go home early! 😔
- Hot yoga after work if kids ok❎ staying home with my babies, listening to them cough and splutter 😪 namaste!

I hope your girls start to feel better soon, and you get a break. It is so hard trying to work, and yet tend to everyone's needs. I am the same way with food, when I am tired and super stressed, I make poor decisions. Lent is a good time for a fresh commitment.

Mixed day yesterday. It was quite a productive one - I did everything I planned to do - but I also had a snack attack at work and ate about 800 calories of mini cakes. So I was well into the red.
I managed to stop though. I had actually texted my boyfriend about going to get a burger, but pulled it back and decided to have some wine with dinner at home. So I had extra unplanned wine, but that was way better calorie-wise than a burger! So, whilst I'm not happy about the snack attack, at least I stopped it getting completely out of control.
I'm not quite sure what led to the snack attack. I had quite a frustrating day, full of meetings that weren't very productive and which were annoying in other ways. I'm also working on some fairly big problems at the moment which are quite challenging and I'm not managing to make much progress on them as I'm not getting much help (and I'm always in sodding meetings!). I think this overall led to feelings of frustration which left me vulnerable when I remembered the cakes were there.
For the future: I'm going to try to avoid having days that are jam packed with meetings, which leave me drained. It's difficult to do as there is a big meeting culture in my company and your diary can get clogged up really easily. But I'm going to schedule in a few regular blocked out slots on the days I have lots of meetings on (Tue/Wed) to give myself a bit of space.
And next time I feel the urge to have a snack attack, I'm going to make myself a cup of tea and look at cat pictures instead.

So my OH has put another "car ban" on. To save on petrol, which is fair enough we need to savd the money!

Ongoing plans/ideas behind the cut1. Purchases: Go to Mac store and see if they can retrieve the files off the iMac. Look for an "ugly Christmas sweater" and a long-haired doll at thrift stores. Practice French braiding. Go to used bookstore and look for Design for How People Learn (Julie Dirksen), On Writing (Stephen King), Dying for a Paycheck (Robin Hardman), The Prince (tr. Tim Parks, Russell Price, or Robert Adams), The Secret Adversary (Christie).
2. E2: What should the controlling ideas be in a study of world literature? Review world lit options. Create vocabulary lists for each unit that come from the texts used: Animal Farm, Julius Caesar, Wes Moore, I Am Malala. Find a way to incorporate changing words from one part of speech to another. Students need to know how to review multiple sources and synthesize information in order to draw a conclusion. Need practice with the difference between transitions and overlapping (at end of paragraph - "another issue is Y" vs "there are other issues besides X"). Quit using "in conclusion" and "I believe" and other writing-about-my-writing phrases. Confusion between direct/indirect objects and prepositional phrases. Use the UDHR and the Declaration of Independence to study paraphrasing; use that to front-load Machiavelli and how to deal with challenging texts. 3. E1: Need practice with quoting & paraphrasing sources, identifying claims that would need support, use of last names for reference, and capitalization practice (common/proper nouns, titles). Difficulty using possessive nouns in their own writing. Honors: practice subject/object pronouns (my friend and I / my friend and me).
4. Curriculum Development: Writing mini-unit. Review scholarly research on 5PE. (I think I can have this as an intro to the research unit so that they also get exposure to how quotes are integrated and cited.) Parallel structure; use of emotional language, specific detail. Use "Write About a Pebble" lesson from Atwell. How long should each unit take? Do research on characteristics: curiosity, persistence, resilience, creativity, responsibility, optimism, courage, integrity, authenticity, leadership, self-awareness, humility, compassion - others? Yesterday was a sausage grinder. I forgot how hard my job is! I figured I could just come back and dive right in. OH NO. Have to revise plans because one of the classes piddled around and didn't work as hard as they should have. So I've got some parent calls to make today. Plus re-doing my lesson plans for that class, plus getting caught up with grading for the OTHER class...

I didn't walk yesterday, it rained all day. (I know that's an excuse, when I was really keen I walked whatever the weather). By the time I went shopping in the evening the supermarket car park was flooded.
I also had to rest my back as I've aggravated it (by myself doh!) I'm reading a very good book by an American author about healing your back. I decided to try a movement which might help the pain, and I made it worse! Hopefully it will calm down in a few days. Not the fault of the book, I'm still interested in doing some of the other exercises.
Had another phone call from son D, which made me feel very down. He sounds so defeated (and still no money). I know this won't last forever, it's just frustrating to keep trying to encourage him but know it's down to him to take action. Sorry, I know I go on about this, and some of you have much bigger worries about your children. I let it affect my eating and I know I shouldn't.
My idea of eating lower carb has just made me want to eat more. I've been like @Snowflake1968, roaming the kitchen looking for something to eat, and eating more because I didn't have what I really wanted So I think I'll go back to calorie counting and reduce carbs just a little as it helps cut the calories.
Still pouring with rain, so will be mostly another indoor day today.

Yesterday was not so good, especially on the exercise front. I haven't exercised since last Wednesday which isn't like me. Thursday is when my "healthy lifestyle" fell off the rails and led to a 4 day binge fest. There are a lot of stressers going on right now and I find it difficult to want to do anything more than the bare minimum. I just don't have the mental energy which seems to drain my physical energy. Nonetheless, I pulled the diet back together on Monday. As for exercise I can't seem to get up and go to the gym, go for a hike after work or ride the trainer in the evening. It isn't like I don't have options, I just can't seem to find my "Give a damn". Sounds crazy being that exercising is the best thing for my emotional well being especially when I'm dealing with things out of my control. Meds are important/necessary for me to be "normal", but working out actually lets me feel joy. Heck, maybe that's the problem, I'm still beating myself up over the binge. IDK. This evening looks bad because we have church, but I think we are doing a Just Dance competition with the teens, so I'll get a little movement in. I never workout Thursday morning, because I weigh in and when I work out I drink like 2 bottles of water. I don't need the extra pounds especially this week. I am kind of accepting of the fact that I won't have lost any weight, but I am nervous to see how much I gained. Sigh...

-Up early to go to the gym Just couldn't get out of bed. Sure I was tired, but I should have gone.
- Work by 8:00 Just barely. I was going to be here at 7:45, but forgot my meds and had to go back for them.
- Breakfast under 300 cal I had a cutie, and will probably have a protein bar in a bit.
- Plan out and Start HTN project/ cross checks for IV & NH2
- 1L water before lunch and before I can have a soda
- Only 2 sodas today
- Leave work by 5:30
- Buy a journal and try to get the crazy out of my head and on to paper so I can see it and deal with it.
- Get my head out of my *kitten* and get my life under control, at least a little
- Be at church by 6:30. Play Just Dance with the teens. Laugh at hubby trying to dance.
- Figure out dinner, usually Chick Fil A on Wed. Could be worse.
- Get laundry from last night out of the dryer and laundry in the washer into the dryer and do another load.
- No alcohol
- Allow one low cal snack, hubby made Jello. I really like Jello and it is calorie friendly.
- Bed by 10:00
@Faebert I really hope your kiddos start feeling better so you can get back to your normal self with your normal schedule.
@littleblackskirt Hang in there. Don't think your stress is any less substantial than that of others. We all deal with stuff and we all struggle. Much love to you.

@nlmackey98 So sorry you are struggling. Could you focus on just a short workout, nothing major and no gym necessary, to get you started again? Then maybe if you start "feeling it" you can keep on going. I know for me, I workout before work, because I have too many excuses at the end of the day. And I'm not a morning person. So I have to force myself out of bed early. As along as I keep up a routine, I just do it ~ no feeling about it. And it's so great to have it done so I can get down to the rest of my day.2 -

That is one of my husband's pet peeves...too many meetings can keep him from working on his assigned projects.
I also see mindful moderation in your determination in curtailing or rescheduling these meetings so that you will be able to complete assignments and keep a level of energy needed to be productive.
Yea about the burger swap...I love it when I stop and turn and take control of my eating choices. I hope the wine was satisfying:) And that your next burger will be the most flavorful, juiciest, fantastic burger ever, lol!3 -

Well yesterday is just better off forgotten. Hubby and I had a little tiff, all my fault, he did nothing wrong just was trying to bug me and blew it out of proportion. We got through it and everything is fine but it was a tense day. Then as we were talking to each other again my Brother called, my Uncle has passed away. He was 83, he went to have a nap after lunch and didn’t wake up. This leaves one Uncle. There were 7 in the family. We lost 3 in 2012, one of them my Dad. My cousin passed a couple weeks ago, I hope the “happrnsvin 3’s” isn’t accurate this time.
I applied for about 15 more jobs yesterday. I received a call back from one, it’s a recruiting agency. I hadn’t realized I applied for one of them. Hubby also got called yesterday to confirm he was going back to his city job this year, so all was not lost.
It is cold again today, a very pretty Hoar Frost on everything, it is so frosty that it is foggy, the sun looks pale behind it all.

@nlmackey98 Sometimes when I am in an exercise slump I clean my house! The energy and effort put into cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, sweeping and mopping, etc, can act as a jump start for me. And I am burning calories with an added bonus of a clean home! (Even if I have recently cleaned it I do something that gets me moving...wash inside windows, clean out some drawers, etc.)
