WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR MARCH 2019

I had the interview and I think it went well, it was long, an hour and 20 minutes but it was more conversation than questions and answers. She asked for my references and said she wanted to contact them today. She has 2 more interviews and she will let me know. The next step will be meeting the owners and office manager to ensure a personality fit.
For those of you in the know, should I send a thank you email today or wait until tomorrow morning?

Janetr Awful! It makes our pot holes look like nothing.
Michele love it. I have a baby shower coming up for a neighbor's daughter and I will hope to use some of the ideas.
I made it to paint class today. I added a vine to the top of the bag at the suggestion of some friends. I liked it already and I like it even more with the addition.
Tracey I would send a hand written thank you. I would mention the high points of why you think it is great place to work and how your skills would add to there business. I would use a professional looking thank you card. One with a simple thank you on the front either in black or gold. Maybe close with something like it would be an honor to be part of your team.
Whatever form of thank you you send e-mail or hand written make sure it is neat with no misspellings. I would always write a rough draft and then copy in my best handwriting if I sent a hand written one.
Good luck,

Happy Awkward Moments Day!
"Awkward moments are those that cause embarrassment, and they pretty much happen every day. Maybe we forget what someone's name is after not seeing them for awhile. Maybe someone says something crazy at a large group meeting and no one knows how to respond. Maybe some awkward things were said after having a few too many Irish beers yesterday. Awkwardness abounds everywhere. Whatever the case, today is a day to embrace all the awkward moments that arise in life, and to just let them happen. By viewing them in this way, the awkwardness might even begin to dissipate as well. On this day people also share their awkward moments with others, which are sure to be a laugh." It's good to remember that everybody has those awkward moments now and then - I just wish I'd learn not to dwell on mine!
Machka - Ooh, being a hockey mascot might have been a ton of fun! That's a lot of work for not much pay, though, and it's not like it has much career potential... So sorry to hear that seizures were added to the list of things you and your husband have to deal with. Do they think that's a lifelong side effect or just something that happens as the brain recovers from its injury? Hope the medical people are able to get that under control for him quickly. Also, I second the suggestion about asking your doc about keto. My Parkinson's friend is on a keto diet at the recommendation of his neurologist since it appears to be helpful for neurological disorders.
Barbara - The punny Ides of March salad picture gave me a chuckle.
Kelly - I love rowing too! I was so disappointed when I found out that what they call a "rowing machine" at my gym isn't what I was picturing. It's more of a weight machine that exercises the rowing muscles. Not the same thing at all.
Barbie - Hurray for good blood test results!
Katla - I had to google "parachute yoga." What an odd thing!
Dana - Wow, it sounds like Dolly had a high old time when she got out of the yard!
bwcetc - I'm sure it's a great way to hide kale from reluctant veggie eaters, but the very idea of "kale brownies" makes me sad! ;D
Rebecca - Oh, I am so sorry you have to move again!
Lisa - Your mug of daffodills is so cheery!
Tracey - You look stunning in that dress!
Pip - That is a heck of an anniversary. Your commitment to your health is an inspiration.
I had a nice but quiet St. Patrick's Day. Philip works on Sundays but I listened to a lot of Irish music while working on little jobs around the house. I'm very proud of both my Irish heritage and my Texas roots.
One of my jobs yesterday was to replace the screen on the back screened door and re-hang the door. So glad I did, because it's lovely here today and I'm enjoying the fresh air. I'll be listening to the birds outside while doing my workout on the ski machine!

Oh Lord today worse than last week..It is getting ridiculous...Michael couldnt handle when his computer went down here is a 59 yr old woman on the floor for an hour on the phone with tech support. Really this kid is 32.
He,Mary and Dr P had a meeting and he raised his voice and called Mary a liar..and when he left he walked by me and our coworker he said I work with a bunch of babies.. rude and condescending..*kitten*..I'm scouring the internet tomorrow for a job ,I dont need the stress..4 -
Michelle: The email idea to the person in Newcomers is a good one. I’m glad you’re taking the precaution of having Vince read it before you send it. Good luck. I love your diaper duty kit for the new dad. Brilliant!
Tracy: A thank you for the interview note is a lovely idea. I agree with Margaret that hand written is best and keeping a copy for yourself is a good idea.
Mary from AZ: It was good seeing your post. I hope you are enjoying life these days.
JanetO in Eastern MO: Sending good thoughts for your Dad to kick the pneumonia.
Good yoga class today with my favorite teacher. There is a new student who introduced herself to me and I am embarrassed to say I struggle to remember her name although she said it twice. I think that it is the same as the name of my difficult neighbor. Easy to remember. I hope I end up liking her better than i like the neighbor.

Now, as well as all the arrangements I've got in my diary, I had a text just now from my son asking us to watch the kids for an hour tomorrow evening while they go to the school for a parent's meeting. Fine, except we have Swing dancing at 7. So, he is going to pick us up and take us home. And we are going to take a picnic with us and eat it while we are watching TV with the kids. That will give us time to get changed afterwards and walk down to the dance venue. Phew!
I am really glad to be of help and they are very grateful. It will be a miracle if we can actually eat our food as usually the kids want a share of everything!

Tracey and Margaret,f good ideas for writing a thank you note.
Michele, Free at last. Good for you.
The internet was down for four hours this afternoon. I do so much using the internet--chores and business, not solitaire and YouTube videos. Our cable/wireless company has a system that when you call in, they can tell automatically who you are and tell you that the system is down in your area and how long it will take to get it back up again.

I wasn't online much over the weekend. I'm basically in full out "mom mode" on the weekends since my kiddo can't drive yet. That, plus laundry and housework...it only happens on the weekend!
To all with struggles, my prayers for all of you. I hope you find peace this week. The flooding in Nebraska and Virginia is scary. I'm afraid we will see similar in the coming weeks. We've already had the river way out of its banks once in February. Lots of rain in the forecast. I live in an area that won't experience flooding, but my drive to work may be impacted.
My sister has had 3 good days in a row. Let's pray it continues.

Thank you all for your advice, I ended up emailing her this afternoon as one of my references wrote back to me when I sent her a message telling her I had actually given her name and what the job entailed and told me she is in Hawaii and to give her cell number.
That was so incredibly kind of my reference, I worked for and with her for 12 years and I miss her, I wouldn’t want to be checking my phone to do a reference on vacation though!
So I sent a thank you note and updated the contact info for my reference all at once.
Hopefully that was the right decision, if I don’t get it, it wasn’t meant to be.
Tracey6 -
Wholly moses! My son used his cell phone and CALLED us! His ships in Guam, and he sounded so great, excited and confident! I have been on cloud nine all day! He might call later tonight, when he gets off work! He told us he and a bunch of his shipmates all caught a bug of some kind. He was pulling a double dragon, he said. He went to the corpsman and got Pepto Bismol, and an IV, (he must have been a bit dehydrated), poor kid! But he said the IV really helped!
Saw a house today, and though a bit small, it had a lot of good qualities. Newer home, big closet pantry, place for small garden in backyard. An arbor with grapes, rose bushes, large garage. It is only $100 more than what we pay now. We still have a couple more to see, so its not time to hastily make decisions.
Hugs ladies!

Katla thanks! Things have been a bit hectic lately. We will be heading back to Minnesota next week for my son’s 40th birthday party. Hopefully we will miss the flooding in Nebraska and Iowa. We may take a different route if necessary. Glad you are still riding horse!
Mary from Arizona1 -
Kim, you don’t have to live in the same house to join Costco together. You need to be part of the same household as far as Costco matters go. Did you know that you don’t have to be a Costco member to use the pharmacy? Fact. Tell them at the door that you’re going to the pharmacy.1
-
Tracy, the dress is stunning! I think you did just fine with the thank you doing double duty with the updated contact info for the reference. The fact that the interview lasted for over an hour is, I think, a good thing. Clearly the interviewer was interested in what you had to say. And I have to add, just because you were "just chatting" as opposed to answering questions, you would be amazed at how many questions can be answered just by chatting!
Michele, love the baby shower favors! Also really liked your gnome, very cute!
Allie, hmmmm, lots of drama at your work, that sucks. Somebody out there is looking for the exact qualities that you have to offer as an employer and you will both be happier when that happens!
Sharon, congrats on almost onederland!
Machka, that back to work gal really needs to give her head a shake, or maybe you'd like to shake it for her? Might relieve a LOT of stress!! lol I get that they want to get him off of benefits and working again, but this seizure thing just puts a whole new wrinkle into the mix! I think I'd be asking to speak to a manager or supervisor, this gal clearly does not get it.
Hubby and I are going to Home Depot tomorrow to get some landscape ties and dirt and stuff and I'm going to start playing in the yard. The weather today was gorgeous and it's supposed to stay like that all week, so I will have a few days to get in some "dirt therapy"! Really looking forward to it!
Hope everyone has a great day/evening/night!
Evelyn, Vancouver Island1 -
KJ sending good thoughts for successful surgery, swift and complete recovery and resolution to issues.
Sharon "so close to onederland" Hooray!
Machka "stopped breathing and turned blue" How terrifying! Thankful you were there. Trusting the Dr. will explain the facts to the BTW chickie in no uncertain terms. And if she still does not get it, give his recommendation and feedback to her supervisor.
Lisa Kinetic tape minimizes surgery scars? Wish I'd known that long ago. Your hard work is really paying off with speedy recovery.
Tracey "going in with confidence" Brava! "...wanted to contact (references) today" sounds like it worked!
Katla sending good thoughts that April will ease DH's miseries and he'll feel well enough to RV.
Janetr Oh those pictures of the flooding in Waterloo. Devastating! So glad your niece and her family were able to evacuate safely.
Rori "Machka: Your DH and you remain in my prayers and meditations. I'm in awe of how you handle it ALL." Likewise dear Rori, you and your DH are in my daily prayers and meditations.
Michele Brava on the email. Well done. LOL at the Diaper Duty Kit.
JanetO in E. MO, hugs to your dad. It takes a long time to recover from pneumonia but better to take that time than to have a relapse.
Allie good thing you've got that resume updated, easier to tailor it to the jobs you find. You've got this!
Connie know you're thankful for the 3 good days in a row, one day at a time.
Rebecca good luck on the house search.
Evelyn love your "dirt therapy."
Ran the self cleaner in prep for new stove. Smoked up the house and woke Joe up. Fumes are giving him a headache, making it hard to breathe. Don't want to abort it as it needs to be done. Vent running, slider open, hope that will be enough. Otherwise he'll go out and sleep in the van.

Pip Like Barbara I just want to snuggle up with your doggies.
Heather Lovely photo of you and the grandkids. Hope your hubby can get to the bottom of Max's behaviour, something must be bothering him making him angry. I admire you with your exercise routine, I'm still trying to get into some sort of routine, I really need to "step up" but everything is such an effort lately.
Tracy What a lovely dress, you look fab!
Michele Yay you are FREE. You must feel so much better now you have sent the email.
Tomorrow I am taking my mum to lunch an early Mothers Day treat. (We decided that it would be too busy on Mothering Sunday.) I was going to leave it until next week, but Mum needs a break, she feeling stressed looking after my dad. It is so difficult for her to get up and downstairs with cups of tea/coffee/food/medication etc. having to balance things on a tray whilst she uses her chair lift. I keep saying to let the carers help, but they don't come at the right time (too early or too late, they can't do right for doing wrong) I try to help where I can, but think I might need to go more often, especially near meal times. Anyway it is something to look forward to, and I'll also try to get her out of the house more now the weather (hopefully) is getting a little better. I've also invited my aunt and mums friend along, we should have got together for a meal at Christmas but with dad in and out of hospital it never happened, so it will be good to have a catch up.
Best get a move on, did have a lot more to say, but time, as usual has got away from me.
Good Luck to those who are looking for new places to live.
Take care and love to all.

Morning Ladies~
thank you all for the vote of confidence.. Yesterday was so bad but I have to give props to our boss for keeping cool under such situations, he has an open door policy and he has been very good to all of us..He is in a sticky situation.. both Mary and I have been there for a good long time, this guy has a finance degree and knows how to get money from people, and thats what the Dr needs. but he also doesn't want to lose staff that keep the patients coming in, Mary is ready to walk and has been offered a job, I got a voicemail from family practice after putting in a resume.. so will need to call them back today.. I think it is part time but I can handle that..maybe benefits included.. If Dr Pandey lost both of us.. it will hurt the practice, but we need to do what we need to do.. I will not work under stressful situations.. and that is what is happening now.
Maybe this guy will quit, and maybe he wont.I want to see the practice succeed for all our sake, but not to the point where we have a hostile work enviroment.3 -
Morning everyone. I started off this morning with a pound loss which is good, I really have been working out lately and eating good, finally got to take the dogs for a long walk by the river, which is down several feet thanks goodness. I had a ton of clothes packed up to resell since they don't fit anymore but now I am donating them to flood victims.
The floods are terrible around here, we have had entire towns in Iowa and Neb completely destroyed by the flooding. Holstein Iowa had every building flooded. I don't know it the town will survive, those small farming towns don't have much income. Farmers are also losing so many cattle and calves, with the flooding getting food and especially clean water to them is almost impossible. Just heard a news conference saying the flooding will resume again they think Friday when the snow melt from South Dakota hits the dams. So it isn't over yet. I just feel so sorry for everything. I sat with a patient and held his hand as the news showed his business completely under water, he lost everything and isn't insured.
Other news, everyone is doing great, love to hear about the biking, I can't wait to get on my bike, I have to start training for my ride. My NSV, my hairdresser told me she didn't think I needed to lose anymore weight and can't believe I want to lose another 28 pounds. She must she something I can't see, mentally I still see ole fat lady. But I am well above what the government says I should weigh and still am not out of the obese range by .6, so close to just being overweight. It's the small things.
My dog is all worn out from the walk and Xena, my cat, just loves to cuddle with him.

My husband and I had a Dr appointment with his main Dr (a specialist) today ... and his RTW coordinator (aka "chickie") came as well, although she was only invited into the last part of the appointment. While waiting before the appointment, my husband's RTW coordinator came in and sat down with us. She was sorry to hear what happened ... "but you're all right now, right?" The conversation turned to work, and I said that it would probably be a while before my husband could work, like maybe a month. "Oh no ... not that long" she responded, "maybe a week or so to recover and he'll be right." Then she started chattering happily to him about work.
Fortunately moments later, my husband and I were called into the appointment. My husband's Dr is wonderful! She's been great right from the start ... a really lovely woman. I had emailed her about what happened along with a list of questions. So she had looked up all his recent tests and had also done a bit of research on my questions. We talked about the seizure, she explained several things, and then she went through my questions.
It wasn't brilliant news ... he's got an increased risk of seizures for the rest of his life. But medications should help. However, it will likely take a while before they're happy that the medications might be working without causing side effects. It's a bit tricky.
In answer to my questions, I've got a bit of work to do ... putting together a seizure management plan and taking some seizure-specific first aid courses, etc. etc..
Then the RTW coordinator was called in, and my husband's Dr told her that my husband would need time to recover, time to get used to the medication, and observation time to see whether or not he'll have another seizure. "Probably a month". She (Dr) started filling in the medical certificate.
RTW-c looked surprised and puzzled ... "Just put 3 weeks" ... she looked at me ... "Or maybe 4 weeks".
Dr put 6 week.
RTW-c looked shocked.
Then Dr told RTW-c that she (RTW-c) would have to prepare a seizure management plan in coordination with wherever my husband was going to work. My husband could not return to work without one.
"Definitely!" replied RTW-c ........ and then, while Dr was finishing the certificate, RTW-c leaned over to me and said in a low voice, "Do you have a seizure management plan?" "I'm working on it", I replied. "Well, when you finish it, could you show it to me so I know what to do."
I'm hoping that we've turned a corner here.
After acting like she knew best about everything since she came on the scene in October, I think she has finally admitted she's in uncharted waters here. This is more serious than she has dealt with before, and completely unexpected. When she left, she just told us she'd be in touch at some point in the future.
Well, to be fair, it was completely unexpected for us too. I'm sure my heart rate and blood pressure where through the roof that day. When I close my eyes, I see the whole thing again. It was scary!!
And just to be clear, we (my husband and I) have no problem with him easing back into work ... we just want him to be safe!

Good morn......looks like a sunny day here & we have a 10 day forecast of same, after this eve’s showers.
I’m not good at keeping up with responses, but gonna try.
ALLIE,a job full of drama will tire you out & leave you dreading to go back. Hope you can find work that suits you.
BETH,DH’s friend, had same thing happen to a woman where he volunteers.
She was back to work the next day......making jokes about it!
HEATHER,The Grkids are growing fast. Glad you are close by with family.
You are making memories they will always remember.
REBECCA,doesn’t it ease your heart to hear from one of your sons, just makes for a good day.One good thing about moving, after a yr....you know the area & can find just what you want.
TRACY,Your dress is lovely & so are you. Good luck with the job.
MACHKA,Your DH is blessed to have a great wife.Hope they find a better fit for the lady who sounds a bit out there.
Quote “Tracy....isn’t it amazing how so many others think they know what is best for you. I find it’s usually the people that could use some different habits that are the most vocal.”
About giving un -asked for advice. I have always felt if we take care of our own business,
no time left to mix into other people’s lives.Works for me.
Had an accident last wk.Sit down for supper & that fast, was on the floor looking up at DH.Wondering what he was saying.
My solid wood chair had broke & sent me flying.Hit head on marble window sill, slamed against wall & landed backside on tile floor.
After a while, scooted into family room ( can’t use/ put pressure on knee implants)& finally into Lazy Boy.
He called Dr,who said I could get X ray,but if it’s a cracked tail bone(as-he thought it was)
they advise ice 5-6 times a day, pain med as needed & rest.
So that is where I am.Walking very carefully, easing on ,off chair or bed.
Have always been super careful ,knowing where my feet are etc,
then to have it happen in our home!
Dd’s & DH showed me pics of the chair & know I was lucky the sharp wood shard didn’t stab me.
All I can do is let it heal. For some reason ,pain is stronger when I get up after sleeping.
Sorry to write a book. Hate that “poor me”
feeling.Am so blessed to have DH as my nurse. He also keeps house clean !
DD got the groceries.....not one of his strengths....
Will send a pic of the chair.......BTW the set is gone, new ones coming Thursday.
Time for med & tea.

Good morning all! Happy Tuesday! Surgery went fine. I am always amazed at the whole, going under/waking up process! lol I arrived home about 12:30, not feeling tired at all (surgery was at 11:00). So I had some lunch and then organized the new storage in the living room for the daycare kids, unpacked and stored a few more things from my MIL's house. Cleaned out the fireplace (getting it ready to be turned into a children's book nook), vacuumed and then warmed up and ate some dinner. Finally sat down and watched my first movie of my time off! lol
I woke up this morning to find my husband taking the baseboards off the wall. I had them taped on, as they were a planned project for this vacation and I removed them a couple of weeks ago and just taped them on to keep the kids from picking at the drywall, paint, etc. HE told me he planned to paint them tonight or tomorrow, because he felt bad that I wasn't able to get anything done due to his mother's passing. I was torn in deciding to let him keep helping me, and having him put them back on because the littler kids WILL pick and eat the drywall and paint chips. He saw my indecision and put them back on. lol I told him we could do it Friday night and have the evenings over the weekend to get them painted, dried and reattached.
Tracey- Your dress is beautiful and you look fantastic in it! I think the thank you to your perspective employers is fine with the additional contact information provided. They will probably appreciate the fact that you included it; it shows your attention to detail.
Michele- Yea! It is time to say goodbye to Newcomers. And they will be fine without you; don't give it another thought. You have to kind of look at things like this: "If I were to die tomorrow, the world would not stop. When it comes to the business of life, people do get replaced. Maybe not forgotten and maybe not replaced with some one better (just different)." It keeps me humble; realizing that my place and imprint in the world is only significant to a very few people.
Heather- The photos of the kids and the whole family are fantastic! You look wonderful, and that little Bea! Such a rosy cheeked little sweetie! So glad that you and DH are finding time for some one on one time with Max. Growing up can be so hard!
Lisa- So happy to hear how everything is going at home/work for you! And that your recovery is coming along nicely! How wonderful that you have daffodils in your yard, already! So beautiful!
The flooding that I have seen in Nebraska, and other areas is just devastating! My throat tightens as I see/hear the first hand accounts of people who have lost everything. But at the same time, I am very thankful to live in a country that has many services available to aid/assist those families. I know, I know; those services aren't always great or timely/efficient; but it is something.
More of you I want to respond to, but running out of time! Sending love and hugs to all of you! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)3 -
OH! The big news! Guess who is going to be a grandma again!?? Lauren is expecting number 2! Joaquin is going to be a big brother! I have known for a while; but she told me to keep it quiet until today (she will make it public tomorrow after her 12 week check). We are keeping it off facebook until then, but I figure you, my dear friends, are safe to keep the secret for a day! Woo-hoo! Another baby!13

I afraid you are right. Flooding will be an issue through April. We lost most of our snow now. Fortunately it was in mid 30's to 40 during the day and then froze at night to slow the melt. Unfortunately that has meant icy sidewalks every morning until it warms up during the day. So far no falling for me. Coming Thursday this will change it will climb into 40's, then 50's Friday with a 60 possible on Saturday. Only shady and huge snow piles will be left. The ground under the snow is still frozen.
When this warm up happens more water is going to fill the already full water ways. We fortunately did not have any more rain or snow this week. This too will change this weekend with some rain. What is causing the flooding here are ice dams in the streams and river. I still have a chunk of solid ice at the bottom of our driveway.
Prayers for those who are going through these floods. Devastating!
Margaret
