So sorry for your loss Barbara, never easy and so shocking that it take some time to sink in...just be there for your friend as much as you can and good job on the dog walking call...
working 9-5 today and Friday .. so will get down to walk the dogs early and feed DFIL and then off to work..
dont know what I will bring to eat , getting a bit nervous with the colonoscopy coming up

Good morning Ladies -

Hubs and I spent the weekend in KS for my Mom's 75th birthday party. We had a good time. We flew up Friday morning and it was quite uneventful. Spent the afternoon with Mom and her husband and then the evening with my Aunt, cousin and her family. It was a good day. Saturday we spent the morning getting ready for the party and then spent the day visiting with cousins and Mom's friends. The drive back to the hotel was fun in a thunderstorm. We got a great light show from all the lightning. Our flight was delayed for late crew arrival on Sunday morning.....finally made it out of Kansas City to be delayed in Houston for weather. We should have been home by 2, instead it was 8:30. I am so thankful hub was with me to keep me company and to watch the bags for potty stops. I really think dealing with the luggage when you have to pee is the worst part of traveling alone.

Good morning all! Happy Monday! I feel like a child that never learns from "painful" lessons. This weekend I ate some salt and vinegar kettle chips. More than I should have. And my mouth and body is paying for it. I have felt dehydrated all weekend! lol I knew better; and now, I know better again.
Barbara- So sorry about your friend's loss! Truly, a nightmare. Very happy that she has you. Good call on the dog walker. Sending love and hugs to the both of you!
Heather- What a wonderful pic of you and your friends! Can you identify them for me? Is the one in the front, with the lovely shorter gray hair the friend who visited you last week? Is the lady sitting alone your friend that sometimes gets under your skin? You look fantastic in this pic! Very happy!
Lisa- Your quilt sounds wonderful! Please post a pic of the finished product. Material with a badge print would go over well here with my kiddos. They love to look at my daughter's old sashes/vests with all of the badges/patches. They also like to browse my handbooks and look at all of the activites and badges in there.
Okie-Your trip to your mom's sounds like it went well. A little glitch on the way home, but am glad you had your DH there with you.
Allie- Don't stress about the colonoscopy! I am sure everyone reacts differently to it; for myself it was a breeze. I gave up meat a week prior, stopped eating veg/fruits/fiber three days before and did broths for two days prior to drinking the prep. This probably seems extreme, and I am not sure if it made it any easier for me, but I had no problems drinking the prep within the time limit, and I was only playing "bathroom tag" for about two hours. I WAS very tired immediately after the surgery though and slept the majority of the day.
Pip- The Helix! Cool machine! I can see immediately how that would be a great machine for the glutes, hip and thigh areas! It reminds me a bit of what your muscles do when you skate and cross country ski. I have also been told that riding a bike is one of the best exercises if you want a great butt. I'd say you probably have buns of steel.

The first two kids have arrived and are complaining about the "beany" smell in my house. lol I cooked up some black beans and lentils this morning (I forgot to cook them yesterday) so I can make some black bean burgers. At least the beany smell is covering up the smell of the flounder we had for dinner last night! lol Even though I grilled it outside, that smell permeates through the house. But it was sooooo good! Ah well, c'est la vie! Oh! My sauerkraut is on week two of fermentation and seems to be doing okay! The lid is secure, so you really can't smell that until I "burp" it.

Yes I made tuna salad,egg and olive salad and some dill pickle chips today and a couple cups of tea with Heavy cream.. remember doing Keto.. tomorrow I'm off so I will be doing basically a fast .. with warm lemon water ,broth and zero water.. weds I am working 8-4 usually I work to 6 but need to start the prep at 4 so will come home early for that.. waiting for a call hoping i dont need updates bloodwork, and have to find out from ins .since i am having it at hospital if i have to pay the 4500.00 copay🙄

Lanette I was doing a required school rotation in the Virginia medical examiner's office in either 1986 or 1987. Can't wait to hit the thrift stores today and load up on more - hope they have Postmortem and the Ruth Graham bio. Did you read any of her books?

Barbara AHMOD - How sad for your friend, and you. Great idea on the Rover and yes - does she live close by or is she in Idaho/elsewhere? This is another reminder to us here to make sure we or our spouses and/or trusted friends are aware of bank accounts, bills to pay, where stuff is (like wills). Whether the person who handles them passes away or is incapacitated for a while. Newbies - we have this discussion here every couple months it seems.

Heather - great photo of you and your girlfriends. Supermodels all, lol. Sounds like a good time but bet you and your DH will be glad you are back home.

Ginger - glad to see you back and sharing your day. Very inspirational! And you are doing very well!! Love the idea of your accountability post and Fitbit stats.

I think I mentioned our older dog had started licking, licking her lady parts. Gave her a bath and that seemed to help but I reckoned it was triggered by stress (loud thunder right over the house - she shook for hours.) I had purchased a bottle of "Comfort Calm" made by "Vets Best" - herbal calmative for dogs to give them on trips, July 4th, etc. So I gave Sophie half a tablet. The licking stopped within minutes. She started up again yesterday.... half a tablet, no licking. She goes to the groomer next week so will give her a tablet an hour before I load her in the car.

51 yo from Michigan. I'm excited about my age. I am overweight (again!) But recall how I felt when I was 49 turning 50 and started to get in shape and be healthier. I want that feeling to last. Plus, so far have been in good health with no diabetes, no HBP, or anything. So need that to last. Plus, I know when I do better my mom and hubby both do better. So!!

IF IT IS TO BE IT'S UP TO ME!! I look forward to chatting in this group.

Ginger - those are some great ways of getting extra steps and such in! Thanks for sharing. I saw you write 2014 and then say 5 years ago, it stopped me for a minute. I can’t believe how fast time is going.

Barbara - how awful for your friend, it sure stops you in your tracks and puts the important things in perspective when something like that happens.

Lisa - that quilt should auction off really well!

Okie - I so agree about the luggage and travelling alone!

Johicks - this group and the other one are my two mainstays. I credit both of them for keeping me in the right direction for the last year, even when I go off course a bit, they bring me back.

Had a much better day yesterday and a busy week ahead of me. Lots of little things to get done and out of the way interspersed with some meetups and appointments.

Just joined the 50’s club and finding out how much harder it is to lose weight. I’m also fighting depression and I’m sure it has to do with never meeting any of my goals.
I am giving myself a new start in being healthy.
April goals:

Excercise (run or Zumba) 3 times per week
Lift light weights
Make a daily list of duties/chores and complete them.
Cut out fast food and sweet treats.
Detox my body (from sweets and caffeine) this month.

I like to snack and I typically overdo it.
Does anyone have any effective healthy snacking tips. This is my downfall.

My current weight is 266. My heaviest ever. Gives me low self esteem. I used to be a runner so this feels horrible to me right now.

Starting today I am hoping to lose 8-10 pounds by the end of April.

Stay encouraged everyone!

Ginger in TX: I’m so sorry for your knee pain. I have experience with knee pain, too. Mine was caused by over-use during a horseback riding lesson. Losing 70 pounds was a huge help for my bad knee. It seldom bothers me now unless I’ve eaten something too salty or just plain overused it. :flowerforyou:

Pip: I love your dogs.

Laura & Barbie: I agree completely with Barbie’s comment. It is fantasy to think one can make one’s mother do anything she doesn’t want to do. Mine was a lifelong smoker. She would sneak cigarettes even when she was in an assisted care facility that forbade them. She couldn’t/wouldn’t quit. My dad was the same way. :sad:

Machka: Your fall foliage is starting to be beautiful.

Barbara: I am so sorry for the unexpected loss of your friend’s DH.

Lisa 50 OH: Plain raw celery is great snack food. It takes more calories to digest than it contains. If you put stuff on it such as cream cheese or peanutbutter, the calories jump right up there.

This is prep day for DH’s colonoscopy. The critter sitter will be here today to take care of our dog. We’ll be going in to the hotel across the street from the hospital later today for DH to do his prep.

Was able to text a couple of minutes with Navy son last night.💖

Was able to chat with middle son, and he's trying his hardest to be level headed with all this change in his life. New baby coming, financial stress of all that. So he's back on Zoloft, its an antidepressant medication. He gets anxiety attacks. Poor kid, but he has a therapist, and so he's on the right track. Its scary as a mom to hear though. I know I have a great relationship with my husband, and we talk a lot. I am hoping he is able to open up how he feels with his wife. Its hard to let things out of your control happen as they may. Its that moment when he had no control, that gives him anxiety. As a child he never did well with change. It took him a bit longer to smile and realize it was ok, if we went visiting family or out camping. He let financial woes affect him at a young age. We would go out to dinner, and he would not eat. I would try to tell him that it was ok, we had planned for this, but he would just say he wasn't hungry. His way of controlling his environment.

Today is a quiet day. Gym then home. 💖

I gotta brag. I'm 56. On December 9th I weighed 311....today 278....I have a long way to go but 33 pounds is a start! I have serious mobility issues from an accident 5 years ago (I need a cane) and while I have had a gym membership for years, I rarely used it. In the past few weeks I have been going regularly and even have hired a trainer who understands working with the disabled and takes no excuses! In March my dog died and I had thyroid cancer (fine now). But, I have stayed on track. Current goal is 200 by January 31 which I think is do-able but I wonder if it is reasonable. End of bragging!

Lisa 50 OH....if you figure out the snack thing, let me know....snacks are my major downfall. I have made some luck by always keeping sugar free jello in thee fridge (Royal jello has less calories than Jello brand - 1/2C= 5 calories v 1/2 C = 10 calories).
