Barbie: Thank you for the new thread!
Happy June! My June resolutions are strikingly familiar:
June 2019 Resolutions
1. Log every bite and swallow.
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on strength and stamina.
3. Have fun every day.
4. Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day.
5. Monitor sleep. Average 7 or more hours nightly.
6. Avoid alcohol. (I need to keep this one in mind because I've been a little lax lately.)
Machka: Happy first day of winter!
Michele: I’m sorry that Newcomer’s is not bringing the kind of satisfaction that it once did. :ohwell:
Pip: Glad you’re back.
Rita: You are looking great! Congratulations.
Sharon: I love the photo of your grandson in your yard. :flowerforyou:
Lisa: I am delighted to hear that you are doing so well. WTG!!!
We’re having a beautiful morning today. I’m planning to sit with DH and watch the river for a while, and then try to put some active fun into the day.

Barbie, I know what you mean about Jeopardy. There have been a few times during the current champion’s run (at least I’m assuming he’s still the champ. I haven’t watched Friday’s show) that I have known an answer he didn’t and felt so smart. Never mind the 2 million times he knew it and I didn’t!
New month, new opportunities. I’m so thankful for new beginnings.5 -
Sorry hun new too this not sure what sign your post means but I’ll sign it like sending a letter. If I get scatterbrained forget just remind me I love in a brain fog anymore. Been busy just mopped the baby proofed living room to got 3 supper cups ready all water for lunch got a picky eater.

OOPS - Just posted this in May -- here we go....
Happy June 1st, Ladies!
Katla - that is such great news that the CBD treats are helping your dog!! (A big thanks to Karen in VA who first used it on her pup with great results! ) I noticed lots of pet shops carry them now - mind boggling, big selection. Does the package say how much CBD is in each chew? How much does your dog weigh? Glad you had a good time with your visitors, by the way.
Rita - you are the bomb! Great job! Sounds like you are enjoying your retirement and the varied activities/jobs you can participate in. I was glad to hear your DH coming around to your Keto eating plan - makes life simpler not having to plan 2 types of meals. Love your new photo by the way -- I saw it and thought - who's this newbie? lol!
Tracey - how is the smoke today? How aggravating it's starting so early. Boy the countdown to the wedding is whizzing by, isn't it? Sorry about the job but like you said, timing probably isn't perfect anyhow. I'll join the ranks of folks who think the person they hired won't work out and you'll be getting a call in a month or two!
Rebecca - crossing fingers that it works out you can go spend some time with Athena and his folks!
Irish Terri - your ending month review reminded me so much of mine. Injuries and setbacks from unwise exercise choices, revising goals, and gratitude for support and circumstances that worked out better than expected.
Machka - I've been keenly following your experiences with the RTW folks and your busy, busy schedule. I was not surprised when you said the RTW provider was in her 20's. I also wonder if they have any providers are in their 40's and have plenty of life and patient experience who can make a more accurate and fitting assessment of your DH's progress and obstacles? Also, is the goal for him to get back to his previous orchard job - or equivalent, perhaps not so physical?
I remember when I managed our 911 Emergency Dispatch Center, I would often get calls from RTW folks, wanting to place people who were hurt on the job and now had physical limitations which prevented them from returning to that job. They thought an emergency dispatch job might be suitable....something where they could "sit down", lol. The RTW folks obviously never been in a highly stressful, fast-paced workplace environment like that. I invited them to come spend time in the center and advised them that out of every 100 applications for the job, perhaps 2 demonstrated the ability to gain the skills and had the personality to work there. And at the end of a year of training, only 1 would remain.
Anyhow, sounds like these RTW folks were much like yours.
OK, now to May/June goals...
On May 11th, I decided I really needed to get back on track. Blood pressure too high, pants too tight, just not feeling well from eating too much sugar and salt.
So I did the anatomically impossible feat of giving myself a boot to the rear - since Pip was busy planning her loveboat vacation, I had to do it myself, lol.
Anyhow, I looked back to my food diary from last summer when I was successful. Took note of what I was eating, when I was eating and decided to go back what worked for me. I went with an IF plan, not eating after supper, often skipping breakfast to get a 14 to 16 hr fast going. Eating low-carb muffins when I absolutely needed something to snack on after supper (I eat early, normally done by 4:30).
I also realized I needed to change my ideas about exercise. I could do my SWSY weights, but not depend on getting a lot of steps, at least not right now. So before breakfast I do about 15 minutes of various stretches and at least an 8 minute Tai Chi routine to further loosen up. Also aim for 20+ minutes every other day of Qigong or more Tai Chi for breathing and balance/coordination.
I'm happy to report I'm down 4 1/2 lbs, pants are loose again (meaning comfortable, lol), Blood pressure consistently in the 120's/70's - if it's high when I first take it, I sit for a few minutes and visualize going thru Tai Chi or Qigong. And down she goes!
For June, the plan is to continue. If I lose a few more pounds in the tummy area, that would be OK.
I'm going to see my doctor this week about the balance problems - due no doubt to my toes and getting used to the orthotics, but I also tend to have burning toes and feet especially in the summer. Some due to chronic low-grade athlete's foot I think, but also might have a neuropathy issue. So need to check that out. I'm not diabetic and have almost too-high B12 levels, but for years I know I was way under the "normal" threshold there.
That's the latest. Have a great weekend!

@lhscapil So pleased for you that the weight is shifting again, Lanette. When I did my review, I also realised that I had been slipping somewhat. When I pulled myself back into line, the weight started to drop again. Complacency is not a good friend.
@JRsLateInLifeMom Welcome to the group, Amber, (is Tejas a typo for Texas?). Looks like you got your hands full with that little live wire. At least when I was your age I could hand the little treasures back to their Mama. I can’t imagine how I would cope, but I’m sure you’re doing fine.
Managed to plant up my containers and am sitting with a coffee on the terrace. I will get up and tidy everything away when I’m done.

Hi all,
Good to start a new month. An 82° high was forecast, but I don't think we got up to that. I didn't go running because it was hot, but I went twice to my local supermarket for food and bought and planted some plants. Two geraniums for colour near the door and a thyme for the front for cooking. DH removed some ivy from the back wall and dug holes for me! I pulled up some weeds because he just doesn't see them. Huge plantains! He has no idea what to pull out and what to leave behind, so he doesn't touch it.
DSIL said she wanted a blue salvia for her birthday so managed to find that locally as well. We will give her a bottle of something nice plus I'm going to offload a very nice scented candle on her that was an unwanted gift. Don't like them. She does. She is coming with her boyfriend next weekend.
It's so nice to be able to leave the french windows open here. At our last house in the countryside we would immediately be invaded by flies and every other insect. Things do buzz in here, but they buzz out again. The birds are singing away and the breeze keeps things cool. I always wondered how people managed with bifold doors and insect invasion! We also used to have spiders galore! Rarely see one here.
My favourite Saturday night programme is back on tonight! Inspector Montalbano. Don’t tell DH , but he is one of my sexual fantasies. I just pretend I am interested in learning Italian. (It is set in Sicily and has subtitles)
The family are coming round tomorrow at 3.30pm for my son's little tea party. 40th. They got back ftom Majorca today, so I will be listening to their holiday reminiscences. I have orange and almond cake, scones, with jam and cream, or cheese, cooked mini sausages and strawberries. I'm giving him an IOU for a large contribution to a meal out with accompanying babysitting.
I'm very glad they got back safely.
Cooking Chinese chicken with chinese mushrooms tonight. Broccoli and a bit of rice. DH has stewed some plums.

Heather... enjoy your Montalbano. When I was in my teens (don't remember exactly what age), I saw "Deadlier Than the Male," with Richard Johnson playing Bulldog Drummond. It was my first memory of some form of excitation that I couldn't actually pin down at the time... That I remember 45 or so years later tells you how big an impact it had on my formative years! And left me with an abiding love of the English. And Bulldog Drummond. Thanks for bringing back that memory!
OK... four Christmas amaryllis planted outside (they either will make it or they won't--tired of looking at them in the house.) Another ivy-type plant that was desperately unhappy inside got a spot in the flowerbed as well, with a handy porch rail to climb on if it decides to survive. Almost anything will grow here, including cedar rust on the apple trees - weird fungal disease that cedars transfer to apples in the spring, and then apples transfer back in the fall.
b]Kim [/b]- any reasonably effective organic solutions you know of for cedar-apple rust? We'll need to treat them next spring before the spores release, according to a lot of things I read. They're too young this year to bear, so not too much of an issue.
And then Corey mowed the lawn while I moved all the firewood out of the carport and back to the woodshed, and hosed and squeegeed the carport down of all it's winter mud and muck. Jumping in the shower (it's 90 degrees outside already at noon...) and we'll go find a nice lunch somewhere.
Love weekends!

@grandmallie sorry yesterday was so bad and glad also they are usually better. I haven't followed why will you be demoted and have hours cut? is that legal? they can just do whatever they want with no justification? you seem to have the right words to give appetite.
@klanders30 keen is an unusual word. what is that about ? social is nice. great job on the grace confidence and positivity, and embracing change ! yes I've had receipts fade too.
@barbiecat Interesting about jeopardy. I have never watched it. so I looked it up on youtube for this guy on a roll. it's impressive to know so much about so many things.
it's in low 80s, not extremely humid, I like it alright. summer weather feels like good times to me.
once I got my 4 pages done today I kind of zoned out to some degree. went for walk to café, got a coffee and to pick up a couple of things. I was hankering for pastries so bought a store bought fruit salad. I NEVER do that. it wasn't worth it. too pricey and to high calories for what it is and not as fresh as just fruit. plus they put some cheap orange and apple slices in the bottom: sneaky. I bought a veggie salad too. I can save it for tomorrow I guess as I'm already 88 calories over today and I've been up as of late.
my tiny friend D (shorter than me but similar weight at present - usually I'm a little lighter but this past year or so as she rightly commented - she had never seen me with a belly before ) was surprised when I told her I have to have 1100 net to lose slowly, but she didn't doubt it. she's long struggled to lose or even to keep from gaining.
super-challenging ! not out of the woods.3 -
Yes Terri Tejas Spanish is Texas lol sorry I slipped out of English a minute.Got a Spaniard last name .

May Goals
1. Log food daily
2. Exercise daily
3. Journal daily
4. Eat mostly Keto
I was successful at everything except for journaling daily. I have been so busy that has gone by the wayside. I will continue with the same goals for the month of June. I think that these four goals are the key to my success. I am just adding a fifth that I do most of the time anyway. However, I believe it is an extremely important element to my success. I just weighed myself and found out that for the month of May I lost 4.6 pounds. I am 0.6 of a pound below maintenance!!
June Goals
1. Log food daily
2. Exercise daily
3. Journal daily
4. Eat mostly Keto
5. 19:5 intermittent fasting
Kettlebell Workout
Goblet squats-2X5X40, 1X5X45
Russian kettle bell swing-10X7X40, 3X7X45
I’m continuing to transition to the 45 pound kettle bell. I am adding an extra set with the 45 pound after three sets at 40 pounds. I feel that I am getting stronger.
Have a great day everyone!
Mary from Minnesota/ Arizona5 -
Amber ...welcome and thanks for sharing your photos! Your little boy is a cutie! We just like having a name because we're too lazy to type out the screen name .. but you sign your posts any way you like!
Barbie ... thanks for moving us into June!
May Goals:
1. Time restricted eating -- 19/5. 100%
2. Log. 10%
3. New recipe/new food item each month. Yes
4. Journal each day. 100%
5. Declutter one area of home for 15 minutes each day. 50%
6. Clean kitchen/sink before bed. 75%
7. Consistency in kettlebell workouts. 25%
June Goals: The same. I lost 2 pounds this month. I tried to rely on 19/5 without logging and I'm thinking I need to continue to log and weigh my food ... although it is good to see that I still lost without doing those things. My goal is 1 pound per week and since January have averaged 1.09 pounds. But I would like to see a greater loss this month.

Amber Tejas: We sign our posts with whatever name we have chosen. Mine is a combination, some letters from my first name, followed by letters from my last name. Others use different naming strategies.
Lanette: We bought CBD treats for our dog at a local shop and they were very expensive, so we looked for another option. We bought CBD oil at a pet store in the next town over and put drops onto dog cookies he’s loved for ages. The premade cookies were very expensive, and the ounce bottle of Holistic Hound Full Spectrum Hemp Oil is working very well at a much lower cost. It is manufactured in Berkley, CA. I put drops of it onto cookies we already buy for him. The vet prescribed medicine for back pain that is much more expensive and not as successful. We haven’t given him one of the vet’s pills since we started using the CBD oil. The dog is not in pain now and we are happy. He weighs about 32 pounds, give or take. The brand they sold us is called Holistic Hound Full Spectrum Hemp Oil.
Heather: Our temperature for today will be slightly cooler than yours, 77 degrees Fahrenheit is the predicted high. I like it!
This is a gorgeous day and I plan to go outside and enjoy it. The best moment so far was watching an Osprey dive into the river in front of our house and come out with a fish in its talons to feed its family. He/she shook his or her feathers in flight and went straight across the river to the nest.

Hi Gals,
Machka – so I liked the idea of emergency numbers in a list on the fridge that I did it here… So after you wean yourself and DH off the list I guess you should come to CA and get me off it too… What a stupid request!
As for my calendar if I don’t have it I could completely melt down… I made a mammogram appointment and the first one they have is in October no possible way I would remember that without it on the calendar!
Rebecca – great !!! I’m so glad you’ll meet your granddaughter
Rita – you’ve done great
Terri – “
@kevrit 👍🏻 Good goals! I hope you get that bowel issue sorted. My bathers are still okay, but I reckon I may need a new cossie soon, as they are on the verge of loose.” so I got caught by 2 words in your post – bather and cossie tried to look them up and both seem to mean what we would call a swim suit/bathing suit…. But then the sentence doesn’t make sense… so I’m guessing the American – Irish dictionary is wrong.
Katla - I have been wondering if CBD would help Levi with the anxiety he suffers with, most of the time all is fine, but loud noises (fireworks) and other animals wind him up - I live in an area with a lot of illegal fireworks, and not just on 4th of July (US independence day) but also for other cultural holidays. CBD for humans is under studied, and even less for our pets…
Heather – so glad you are finding new things you are liking about living in Hove… I am always surprised to remember that you don’t have screens on your windows. The bugs stay out at my house due to the screens.
Kim from N. California

Happy June! Thanks Barbie, our fearless leader.💖. Love all that you do!
This month its adapt, adjust, and acclimate!
Leaving in a Greyhound bus to Vancouver WA. Six hours of travel. Planning on living very minimalistic. One bag, bare essentials. Want to be able to pick up and stay at MILs, or middle sisters. The thought of spreading stuff around is a quick recipe to misplacing stuff!
I want to expand my son's food preparation repertoire. My DIL isn't the cook in the mix, so it falls on my young son. He saw a video of scary cow treatment, so he has shunned all steak, but he isn't really a vegan. I am hoping to give him some more choices in life.👍. I should be fun!
I am beyond excited to meet Athena Rose!
I am kinda nervous to not be exercising every day, but I will take lots of walks. I don't want to be intrusive though. If they wish some space I will give it to them. I don't want to be the troublesome mother inlaw!
Today I'm making two batches of spaghetti sauce. One batch for tonight with Italian meatballs. Another for homemade lasagna. I know my husband and son will tv dinners it more often than not.
Well my neighbor is moving and has a garage sale going. Going to go over and check it out.👍
Have a great rest of the weekend!

Have I mentioned lately how much I hate dementia? Latest saga is a long one in the spoiler below. Thanks in advance for letting me vent.Yesterday was my long awaited Reiki/massage therapy appointment. Reminded DH umpteen times what time I was leaving and what time I could be expected back. He went out for a walk with the cat, and one hour later, still wasn't back. Not entirely unusual as Mars the Leash Loving cat hasn't had his usual amount of time outdoors due to my limited mobility. It was a beautiful day, and I thought he was taking DH on either a long walk, or a long sit under a shady tree. I left a note, a sandwich and a reminder about where I was going.
Came out of my session feeling great. Then noticed 4 voicemails all left while I was in zen mode. Messages from Deputy Sheriff Taylor. HOLY *kitten*! DH somehow got separated from Mars, was disoriented in a distant side of our condominium complex, and was spotted by a neighbor trying to let himself into someone else's unit, all the while swearing "this is my place". Fortunately, he wasn't combative.
Sheriff looked up DH's name and address, and calmly walked him back to our place. Checked with neighbor next door who vouched for DH. They got inside and saw the note, sandwich and his picture on the wall, which further enforced their decision that they had the right home. The voicemails were to let me know they got him home, but the cat was still missing. I raced home, got inside, and there was DH calmly sweeping the floor, completely oblivious to anything that had happened. No recall! Just before I was heading out the door to find Mars, the neighbor who found DH knocked on our door and said "I think your cat is on my deck". Yep, same neighbor that called the Sheriff for DH, also had my bratty cat happily licking down a bowl of milk and plate of chicken. Huge relief, followed by heart to heart with DH. Not an easy conversation, as there are some keywords that will shut him down. But, I did remind him that this week he has been up at weird hours and showing symptoms of burnout. He even forgot my name one evening. Don't know if I made any impression. He still pretty much denies anything is wrong, which seems to be a typical symptom (go figure!). I know the memory care facilities around here have long waiting lists, so this month I'll start fact-finding. I hate, hate, hate dementia.
And, just to close out this little saga, Deputy Sheriff Taylor came to our door to speak to me in person. His version of the accounts left me feeling very sad.
Rita: You look gorgeous! The Southwest and Keto certainly agree with you.
Rebecca: My heart dances thinking of you meeting Athena Rose.
Okay, gotta sign off and get off the recliner. Stay well, and keep moving friends.

Oh Rori- Bless you dear friend .. I see dementia every day and to be the spouse of someone slipping away mind wise is just so darn hard to watch.. I will keep both of you dear dears in my prayers. Xoxox..
I am sitting waiting for DFIL and the poor lady at next table crying ,so sad to watch.. old age and what comes with it is cruel cruel beast..4 -
Hate Dementia too Rori my father has had that plus a work related brain injury for years seeing them say cat when their reaching for the spoon is hard. Took care of a mother-in-law with it too she ran out of the house if I was giving my then 4yr old daughter a bath (now 20) she would be in her birthday suit. Hoping you have some sort of support it’s hard to get sometimes. Do you have Hospice Care y meals on wheels they were helpful.

Rebecca, so excited for you to meet your granddaughter!
Allie, hoping that the chat you have with your boss is fruitful and that he manages to find someone (part-time!!) to help you and Mary out. Also glad that you and Mary are managing to co-exist. Although I guess it's hard to be picking at someone when you're so darn busy! (In other words, it seems Mary has enough to do, she doesn't need to be dreaming up ways to be a pain!)
Heather, my house would be full of bugs without screens on all opening surfaces! Some still manage to sneak in when we are going in or out, or if the screen on the door to the deck isn't "just so". It's just one of those magnetic screens, it's got a tension pole at the top to hold it in the door way. It's not perfect, but it definitely helps!
Barbie, thanks for starting us off right for June!
Lisa, happy to hear that you are starting to feel better! The property sounds like it's coming along quite nicely too!
Well, my lone goal for May was to end up lighter than when I started. I weighed myself on May 8, then again on May 28 and I am down 1.2 lbs. I will make June's goal the same. I do need to log more consistently, it just seems so much like work sometimes!
Many more comments I want to make, but I'm so far behind on commenting now, it just seems silly to try! Please know that I do read all of your posts and I do feel appropriately sad and happy for all of you!
Hugs to those who need them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!
