Amber ~ I too am one who talks to people in line and at the doctor's office. Sometimes, that's the only way I have an adult to talk with. I have always, always been told that I am too quiet; so, I guess when I am in line it gives me a chance to communicate without having to open up too much. I hate to talk on the phone also. What it all boils down to is that I don't have anything to say...

SUCCESS!!! Finally got the unsweetened offbrand (HEB) pudding to taste good!
3/4 cup 35cal international delight vanilla
1 cup unsweetened almond milk 🥛
Unsweetened vanilla pudding mix
Use a hand mixer too clumpy if not.
Put in fridge for hours.
Carol GA- I was a late talker lol reminds me of the Blarney Stone legend lol 😆. Once I started I chitter chattered in my sleep even since I slept with my eyes open (family trait had to learn to stop) it was hard to tell if I was up or not lol 😂Grandpa too! Well a 2yr old isn’t that great of a conversationalist yet. I open up too much always have.

Heather: I hope your knee feels better, soon. I’m hoping for mine to feel better, too. Making friends in a new town is a challenge. We found a sailing club here and acquired an instant friendship group, but since DH’s MS has made him unable to go on the boat we’ve lost touch with most of those friends. We both have friends among our neighbors and I have friends I’ve made through horseback riding. When I think of your cruises and your love for dancing, I wonder whether there are dance clubs in Brighton. You are a brilliant woman and I suspect you’ll sort things out. :flowerforyou:
Sharon: I’m in agreement with Carol in GA—great news about your health and mobility. I hope you have loads of fun on your trip.
Rebecca: I may end up flying to Illinois on my own. I’m still lobbying for the RV trip but I want to see those grandchildren even if I have to hitchhike on a jet. :ohwell:
Michele: We’re on the same page for rest stops.
Sue in WA: Your comment about Arrow paying attention to me as a leader is probably the best compliment, ever. Thank you for your kind words.
(((Kim))) Your family mystifies me, and your generosity of spirit is amazing.
Lanette: We have a collection of durable plastic grocery bags. I’ve never had one fail or wear out. Some are in the house, and others are kept in the cars. The thin white bags that our grocery store puts meat into are rinsed if need be and donated to the food bank so that their customers have a bag to carry food home. Since Oregon has a bottle bill, beverage cans & bottles are worth a nickel each. We donate our cans & bottles to the food bank, too.
Machka: I love “Unite Separately in Your Own Homes".
Annie in Delaware: Can you shift from fried chicken to baked chicken? Every little bit helps.
We’re taking DH’s car to the VW dealer today. We had work done on it last year, but that work has failed. They need to make it right. This will be an adventure. The road that we usually take to Beaverton has been closed for heavy repair/rebuild and we’re taking an alternate route for the first time. He will be driving his car and I will be following in mine.

Thanks Sharon! Tried that, put eggshells in the water, fertilizers in dirt, and water them once a day to 3 times a day. Lots of green but no successful tomatoes. Oh, well....

Kim, thanks for the info on the tomatoes. I did use new soil. I used miracle grow moisture control. Maybe next year.

Empty nest Christmas: We always went to DMiLs for Christmas. When it got too much for her, DSiL and I would host alternate years. Now they spend most Christmases in USA with their daughter/granddaughter. They moved into a small bungalow because of DSiL’s decreasing mobility, so we host every year. My daughters/families always join us,(DED and the grands come on Christmas Eve and stay a couple of days). Everyone mucks in with cooking/prep etc. So I haven’t had a Christmas alone since we got married 53 years ago. 😂
I endorse all the comments already made on various other topics. Nothing new to add. 😂
I’m settling back into my routine after our week away with the grands. We had a lovely time together, but I forgot my scales, so couldn’t weigh either food or myself. Working on discarding the resultant holiday baggage.
💕 💖 💕 to all.

Rita Could the tomatoes be getting too much water? I've had problems with blossom end rot before...this year I put crushed eggshells at the bottom of the holes before I sunk the tomato plants in, and the tomatoes get watered every other day or whenever it rains, and so far so good!

Hi Gals,
Rita – I wondered if you were using miracle Grow, the miracle grow products are kinda like us eating sugar they “hype” up the plant it puts out lots of green, flowers, fruit, but never develops a good healthy root structure, so with tomatoes you have to grow them in a combo of liquid calcium and miracle grow, or good soil with lots of calcium and NO miracle grow. I grow all my food products as “clean” as I can and miracle grow is not allowed in my garden.
Having a pretty successful day! Ate a healthy breakfast, a reasonable lunch, and am going out to Mexican food for dinner. Asked the gal I am going with to promise to keep the chips out of my reach. LOL

We made the decision to have DH’s car hauled to the car dealership via AAA. It is too unreliable to drive safely just now.

Day is over with my visitor. She's gone to bed. All went well and I got 350 extra calories walking in. Good job because we ate and drank well.
Tomorrow I'm going to take a rare day off from exercising. We have to leave the house in party finery before 10 am, so I will need to get ready and compose myself. DH is going to drive us to the station. Rain is expected.
One day won't kill me.
We bought our train tickets when I collected her today, so no worry about queues.
Hope I sleep tonight.
Katla - I do meet up with people at the dancing class etc but what I miss are real deep, one to one friends. The ones who get you and are your buddies through thick and thin. Who love you. I still see those kind of friends, but we have to travel to see each other. I have always had one or two really close friends nearby and miss that. My cancer friend who died recently was a deep friend. For me those friends are as important as my husband. In the book I am reading about introverts, she calls them 'move the body' friends. Ones you could call to help you move the body of someone you had inadvertently killed!
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx4 -
I have to be more an extrovert at work (due to my job). For years my husband complained that I was always running into someone I knew and had to talk to them. He was very impatient unless it was someone he want to talk to. Due to his emotional/mental/physical issues, we withdrew from many friends the last few years before he died. Since then, I discovered that many of the friends (especially if they were couples), will show up at the funeral and then you don't see them so much. I have a small but quality group I chat with when I feel like being social. Other times, I am also quite content being by myself and figuring out what I want to do when I grow up. I have also been the sort that near strangers think they can just start talking to me about anything! Those have been some interesting conversations . . . .
Those with joint issues--keep doing what you can to improve them!6 -

Thanks for all the tomato suggestions. Miracle Grow potting soil may be the issue. Live and learn!

I am a more of an extrovert living with an introvert so I have changed a lot over the years. I would much prefer going out and doing things but if I want to be with him I need to stay home. I have learned the art of compromise over the years, I go out with friends or invite them to visit. I have a couple of those “hide the body” friends and Heather I can’t imagine losing one of them.

Took the car to Les Schwab this morning to get new shocks and struts. The old ones were shot and causing uneven wear on the tires. I can't decide whether to sell the VW and just keep the truck, I need it to haul the horse trailer or keep the VW as a backup car. It is paid for but there is maintenance and insurance. I keep waffling on this decision. DD has her own car. Teaching water exercise at the YM tomorrow.
We planted cherry tomatoes this year and used compost from our pile to mix in the soil. We have nice looking tomatoes but the slugs eat them as soon as they start to turn ripe. I put epsom salt around them and that has usually worked but seems everytime I put some down it rains and washes it away.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA2 -
Sue - Is the cost of maintenance and insurance more than a cheap rental would be if you needed it as a backup?

Did one segment of the 10MS Pilates Slim and Sculpt DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do an Essential 12 Minute Workout DVD. This is a new one, so we shall see how it goes.
Kim --- how I wish you could come here for Christmas. Hey, maybe you can. Where in VA are you? Jess lived in Reston. Actually, she’s been there almost all summer (I can understand --- who wants to spend their summer with their parents?) but is supposed to come here today (she needs to sort thru her room here and her storage unit and identify what she wants to take with her)
Kate UK – Personally, I don’t find quilting to be relaxing at all. I know a lot of people do, but I don’t. I look for every excuse in the book to put off quilting something until I absolutely have to do it.
Lanette – I remember seeing this thing on Facebook that was a picture of a drink with a paper straw in a plastic cup. I thought that was cute. For anyone who lives in a state where plastic bags are outlawed – do they also outlaw those plastic bags that you put fruits and veges in?
We never hear from the people who bought the house next door. They have two little boys and even when they’re playing outside in the backyard, you really don’t hear them. The man across the street has said that he’s waved to them and they’ve never once acknowledge him. I can understand if someone doesn’t want to talk – but not even wave??? M and Lisa – can you shed some light on why someone wouldn’t even wave? Living in Alabama, Lisa, should be interesting for you. I know here in NC people will hold conversations in the grocery store whether they know you or not. It’s probably the same way in Alabama.
Tracey – Vince and I are like you and your hubby. I’m the extrovert, someone who is constantly doing something. Vince is the direct opposite. Every day I’m usually out of the house doing something. He can go for weeks on end not leaving the house.

Heather: "Hide the body" friends. Love it. Will definitely find that book.
In my 30's I was the one who hosted dinner parties regularly and held an open house for every major holiday. I had many good friends and neighbors for the 17 years we lived in Honolulu. I'm still close to some of them, but moving to Colorado and being a road warrior for past 18 years put a damper on building a tight social network. But, it's okay. I am at a stage in life where it's quality encounters that matter more than quantity. I am an introvert who can play an extrovert if necessary, as it was for my career. DH's dementia has thrown another monkey wrench into meeting people with mutual interests. He's most comfortable with friends and family he remembers, but he's not beyond getting into a rambling conversation with a stranger who has no idea that everything DH is saying is delusional. Lately, he's been on a kick telling people he worked for the CIA. Oh good grief!
A couple weeks ago I pledged to start inviting people over for lunch. I put forward one invitation to a neighbor. She works full-time and has out of town visitors for next 2 weekends, but we will get together. I will next invite the neighbor who brings her two year old grand-daughter to the pool. DH and the baby get along great! Adjacent to the pool there are propane grills, so we could even make some fun kabobs with chicken and veges. We'll see.
I'll be getting a Reiki treatment tomorrow with a practitioner I haven't met before. Can't wait. I'm ready for my left foot to heal up so I can get back to usual gym activities by the time the pool closes in September.
Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Michele - my hubby doesn’t leave the house except to work. I have to drag him to go anywhere with me and I usually don’t even try. I really miss doing things together though and with the sudden death of my cousin I think we need to work on doing more things before it’s too late.
Rori - I laughed out loud at your husband saying he was in the CIA, I know it’s the disease talking but it must be a bit enjoyable listening to his tales. Maybe they were hidden dreams he had. I wish we knew more about how the brain works.
I was telling a friend of mine the other day that I wish people would just stop in to visit once in a while now. I miss that from when we lived in NB. The cousin that just passed is one that used to stop in for a coke every couple of days or I would go to her place for tea.

I'd wave back, but there's a good chance I'd be thinking, "Please don't come over here and talk, please don't come over here and talk, please don't come over here and talk ... "
Part of my social avoidance is because I'm busy. I don't want to be invited over for a BBQ because that would eat into a perfectly good evening of getting stuff done. I don't want to be invited to the local ladies meeting because I would have to explain that I work full time and can't take 2 hours off in an early afternoon to make crafts (yes, I've actually had difficulty explaining this to 2 or 3 ladies groups over the years!!) I don't want to go listen to a lecture at lunch ... I attend uni and have my fill of lectures there. I'd like to go to the church across the road, and have been there a few times, but I got "scared off" on my second or third visit when someone started talking about getting me involved in the children's program and signing me up on the cleaning roster ... no, I've got enough on my plate! I just want to attend with no pressure.
On the other hand, I have invited people to come cycle or run with me, and no one takes me up on that either. I've also posted events that my husband and I are interested in on FB to see if anyone around our area is interested ... but nope. I've tried to arrange things with my husband's sister and boyfriend like going for hikes, taking a short harbour cruise on a wooden boat, etc. but they're not interested. I would much rather do something with someone and have a shared experience, than sit around and talk over a cup of coffee.
Fortunately, my husband is my best friend (although that's a bit difficult now) and we enjoy doing things together.
