Today is a rest day. I'll do yoga at lunch if I can get away from my desk in time. I wasn't able to do that yesterday so we'll see.
The temperature forecast for the half this weekend is looking to be wonderful... I'm now hoping that wildfire smoke isn't an issue. So far, so good. We've got lots of smoke here but the race location is clear at the moment. I'm trying (quite unsuccessfully) not to obsess over pacing but the good news is, the cutoff is not going to be an issue, as they offer a walker friendly generous 5 hours.
@polskagirl01 Way to go!4 -

Way to go on the hike @polskagirl01! Well done. It sounds very challenging and 12 hours doesn't sound bad at all to me for that distance of hiking. Beautiful pictures.
Congrats on your progress @RunsOnEspresso!

This morning was another treadmill warm-up run before strength training. I failed to start my watch until severa minutes into the run so had to manually add that extra bit into Garmin/Strava. Because heaven forbid that extra almost-a-mile doesn't get counted! I also punched it way up at the end so I could make it to 3 miles because I'm a slave to the numbers
My trainer took things down a notch today because of this weekend's races but we still did 10 turkish get-ups, 50 push-ups and 25 pull-ups (rotating the three exercises in 5 sets, not all at once), along with quite a bit of core work. There were more push-ups hidden in that core work too, along with a lot of planks. My pull-ups are still a work in progress but improving. I think I did one or two really good ones, a few really close ones, and then a lot of "attempts". But the attempts are much closer than they used to be. Despite it being somewhat of an "easy" day I was pretty wiped out at the end of the hour.10 -
*sigh* got my first rejection letter and it was from my number 2 job choice. I knew it was a long shot but was worth a try. Guess I will continue the interview dance!
Oh, remember the Flip the table story? Well, I showed up to the face-to-face interview and tried lifting the table while saying "This seems a pretty sturdy table, might be hard to flip."
They laughed. So, score!15 -

Okay work you said you were going to slow down. 12 hour days is NOT slowing down. :-)
@shanaber and @PastorVincent thanks. Knock on wood the past week she’s been fine. Of course once you get the big guns involved ha ha Sorry about the rejection letter, only means something better is coming.
@_nikkiwolf_ I’m not a fan of hornets bees or things that fly at me either. It’s bad enough that the flies and stupid buzzing things like to fly by my ears I don’t need anything biting me.

Hi all. Popping in. tonight might be my last night online this week, so I wanted to see how everyone is doing you all rock!
30 days, 13 hours, and 22 minutes until the real fun begins.10 -
Good to see you pop in here @MNLittleFinn! I'm not sure what you have coming up in 30 days but I'm sure it's massive. Hope your training is going well.
Sorry about the rejection letter @PastorVincent. Hang in there.
@skippygirlsmom I'm glad to hear that Skips's been feeling better but I hope they still figure it all out.
I saw this bit of "inspiration" and laughed. It's been a bit of my attitude lately

@mbaker566 - love the dog party! I remember you posting about it once before and thinking it was such a fun idea!
@RunsOnEspresso - yay for exercises!!!
@polskagirl01 - Fantastic run!! What a gorgeous trail to run too!
Got a quick little run in this morning before strength training. It was humid out (~85%) but pretty cool (in the low 70's). I am going to try to get in my long run tomorrow since I will miss it over the weekend. I may not get in the full 9 miles but I am ok with that...it will depend on how my body is feeling. It took a while to get going this morning but after a bit over a mile I felt pretty good. Hobbes on the other hand has apparently forgotten most of his run etiquette and thinks he needs or should be stopping to sniff and pee on every tree and then some.

Sorry I'm late to the party, but I'm going to post 130 miles for August. My next marathon is Sept. 1 in Tupelo, MS.
Here's what I have so far:
8/1 - 4.99 miles Short run, but was able to keep above lactate threshold for most of this run
8/4 - 9.76 miles weekend long run... I wanted to do a lot more than this, but cut the run short (and it was slow / lots of walking as well) because of runner's stomach. I ate a big lunch the day before, and I know better. This is why I don't eat much, if anything, the day before races (and definitely not the morning of).
8/6 - 6.19 miles Short run in town, decent pace, and I might have done as many as 8 miles, but cut it short because I knew my BG was trending low and I had treated already, but then I sweated my CGM out and didn't have my meter with me.
OK, now I'm all caught up for the month so far.

So a hot muggy run last night. It's been raining this past week so humidity was probably through the roof. Recently, there's been a fence put up on my evening running route to separate the pedestrian / bike lanes from the car lanes. It sounds great in theory, but the pedestrian lane was so narrow I found myself having to constantly speed up and slow down and go around people and dodge stuff. I need a new route...
But anyway. Nice to be back at a place when a tenner feels like a short run.
Upcoming races that I'm trying not to think about:
11.17 Shanghai Marathon
@polskagirl01 Congrats on finishing! That looked like a lot of (painful) fun.
@eleanorhawkins You've got this. Like really.10 -

So I feel a little less inadequate now that after some stalking of the woman I've mentioned here a few times who always wins everything round here in my age group and makes me feel like a snail with narcolepsia I have discovered that she is on the Spanish national masters team!
Went out for my planned 5km this morning, and of course I just had to see whether I was capable of doing it at the pace the HM is going to require. The answer was yes I can, but it was far from easy. A lot harder than it ought to have been, in fact. I did my usual run-walk thing for 3km, then realised I needed more speed, so did a hard straight km which was actually my 2nd fastest recorded kilometre followed by a final kilometre of fast run-walks. I finished in around 1 minute less than the cutoff time for each 5km section. So now I just have to work on managing to do that 4 and a bit times in a row!
I had planned to do my strength training today but have been summoned to drive the inlaws about so that may not happen. Possibly a good idea not to anger the legs much more today anyway.
August goal: 90km. Run so far: 22.3km.
ETA: I'm considering investigating the pool at the local sports centre, despite the fact that my psoriasis and chlorine do not mix at all well. Think my legs may benefit more from swimming as cross training than walking though. Thing is, I suck at swimming so the question is do I just try and go swim laps for x minutes on my cross training days during public bathing hours, or do I take the plunge (see what I did there?) and sign up for adult swimming lessons?9
