What, if anything, do you keep from your university/college courses?

    Notes? Assignments? Lecture pdfs? ?????

From my education up to my recent Bachelor's degree, I've gotten rid of quite a bit of my stuff. I've got a few assignments and a small collection of notes ... from back in the day.

Then I've got more from my Bachelor's degree.

And I've got practically everything from my Master's ... but I'm still in that.

Barbara it was a particularly brutal winter here last winter. It was rare to see a home that did not have ice dams with the resulting icicles hanging from their roofs. We were lucky. Our home and sons had did not suffer the kind of damage Mary suffered. I did put more insulation in son's home to help for the future. It is the heat from your home that melts the snow on your roof that causes the dams. The more you can prevent heat from escaping the less ice you have.

(((Mary))) I am so sorry your house sustained that kind of damage. It was the winter that keep on giving. We did have neighbors that never had water in their basements before had it that season. The only reason we didn't is I spent two days bailing water away from the foundation of our home. The huge snow drifts had melted around our foundations but made a mountain of snow that was melting and coming back towards our home. That season I learned to snow rake our roof and learned I needed to move that snow away from our home. Awful!!!!

I hope you found good people to help you repair the damage.

It's been a while since I was in school, but I encouraged my sons to keep well written/received research projects and papers in the event that they could use them in either future courses (modified) or as reference for future personal speaking engagements. Electronically saved, of course.

My older son kept professor provided information that was very pertinent to his career interests.
My younger son has kept professor provided notes/examples that he can use as for reference in his career.

It's that "electronically saved" bit I need to deal with. Recent stuff is, of course, electronic ... mostly. But a lot of the older stuff isn't. So I'm looking at a huge scanning job!

:)Machka, I kept everything from my college and post graduate work. I got my Master degree when I was 22. When my mother died and we moved into her house and did a huge clearance of stuff, I got rid of all of it--notebooks, papers I'd written, and textbooks. I was 45 years old.

    Happy Sunday!! <3

Katla - that horse "rest area" you worked on sounds wonderful. What a great idea. Glad the appointment with DH's surgeon has been set up. Crossing fingers he can get it taken care of soon, it's encouraging that prior surgeries made him feel better.

Barbara AHMOD - I've heard a lot of gripes from folks on the Oregon Coast about the tsunami warning system sirens not being supported. Was that a state wide decision or just your county? I can't think of a better thing to spend money on. Sheesh. I guess they figure everyone has an app these days and will get a text IF they are signed up and the system isn't on the blink. Redundancy is a good thing.

    Rita
    - you are a bulldog, lol. In supermodel's clothing. So aggravating that they lost the ultrasound. Not easy living with someone in pain like your DH is. I keep seeing ads on TV from attorneys making claims for inferior hernia mesh. Could it be related to that?

I had to do an "end run" to get the appointment set up with my surgeon in a timely fashion. Got in to see my doc OK, she explained the ultrasound results and said to see the surgeon, and that she'd send over the referral and they would contact me. I waited a few days, then called the surgeon's office myself. They hadn't rec'd anything. I told them I wanted to go ahead and set up the appointment (he's always booked out for weeks). They let me do that and even said they'd call my doc's office to get the referral because he couldn't see me without it. When I went in for my allergy shots, I mentioned that I'd set up the appointment with the surgeon and they were waiting on the referral (now nearly a week). In fairness, the office manager had been on vacation and just got back, but this shouldn't be on her shoulders or have waited. I'll mention this next time I see my doc. Love that clinic but having some bumps, likely due to the other doc being off a lot as his wife is dying of cancer and he's trying to make every minute with her count.

Machka - love that bench/lounge at your beach! What a neat idea. I did post-grad work toward a certificate in Drug/Alcohol counseling. Still have those books and a lot of my notes, also the notes and books on my Myers-Briggs certification. Everything else from high school and bachelor's are long gone. I also had a pile of resumes and referral letters. Got rid of them a couple years ago - they are all outdated and hopefully I'll never have to work again.

    That's a wrap. Make it a good day! B)

    Weekends are way too short!

11:30 pm -- Just spent the last 15-20 min grocery shopping while singing the hymns I'm playing on my computer. It's one of the ways I relax ... play soothing music late in the day. I'm still busy right up till the end of the day, but at least the TV is off, most of the lights off and music is playing.

Today I did some of the dreaded paperwork ... organising papers. My husband is trying to do some of it too, and did manage to put together a binder of all the same stuff, and I think it is indeed ALL of that particular topic area. He's very focused. I'm not sure he could take a whole pile of stuff and sort it by category, but it appears he can take a whole pile of stuff and find one type of thing in it. That's a start.

Our office, however, looks worse than it did a week ago before we started doing some of this. I just keep reminding myself that things often look really bad in the "during" phase.

I've also been trying to work on my website, but I'm fighting with one particular area. I have two pages pretty much finished so that's nice. :) But the next step is holding me up a bit.

Oh well ... back to work tomorrow.

Annie in DE: I’m sure that dog shampoo and baby shampoo are both probably okay for your dog, but I wonder why your mom is bathing the dog so frequently. We NEVER bathe ours. If he was outside and got muddy we would clean him up, but that hasn’t been an issue. He goes to a groomer twice a month for a comb out and nail clip. :star:

Michele: Congrats to your daughter for her progress at becoming DrLeGrand.

Machka: My University classes were in 1967-70. I’ve kept nothing but a college degree, good education, great memories and a good husband. I took additional classes along the way to renew and keep my teaching certificate. :flowerforyou:

Heather: I hope you enjoy your friend’s visit. :star:

Barbara: I agree with you about the tsunami warning sirens. I remember the impact of the Japanese earthquake very well. The tsunami that resulted created a lot of damage on the coast of Northern CA and Southern OR.

DH is begging for coffee. Time to go.

Michele - that was a sweet little post Jess wrote. Were you a pharmacist? How many more years of school does Jess have?

Lisa - I had my wallet stolen out of my purse one time. What a pain it was! I luckily didn’t have any important notes in it. I’m glad you were able to use your communication skills to discuss with Cory. I am never able to do that calmly with Rodger I would have followed him too quickly.

Barbara - we have a cell phone emergency text system here in Alberta now. We learned this summer that it is not very reliable. The notification is set to the area the phone is registered to. The first week I was at work that was a Tornado Warning for the city and surrounding communities our nursing home and my house is in. My Administrator lives in a different area where there was no warning so she never received anything on her phone. A couple of our team received them. My husband received it in his phone but I didn’t on mine. We are through the same carrier. Facebook and Twitter advised me faster than the cell.

Went to help at my friends yard sale yesterday it was a long day doing nothing. Very poor turnout.

Today I was supposed to meet with another friend but she has cancelled on me so I am going to clean, get groceries and maybe do some crafting.

    Have a great day everyone.

Annie in Delaware – maybe your mom is bothered by the smell of dog? Or, does she have any memory problem and doesn’t remember how often she washes him? She is probably thinking she is helping. Hope you and boyfriend get things sorted out.

Machka9 – I think what you keep from university courses depends on future plans. Since I was planning on teaching (and taught as a grad assistant), I kept some of the lecture notes. A few books I kept that I did refer to for a while. As I finished eat degree I sorted out things. Keep in mind, I did all of my work before the internet and being able to store things on the cloud. All of these years later, I have my thesis and dissertation and diplomas.

Sunday starting off well. Did some bike before church, went for 40 minute walk outside afterwards. Too hot already to do any more. Working on some house things. Making a turkey meatloaf today, never tried it. Am trying to incorporate some different every couple of weeks.

Annie- Lol at a vet/adoptive kennel I worked for we used a mixture of dish liquid y baby shampoo saved the specialty skin shampoo for skin allergy dogs. Usually folks who came in often the dog had pituitary issues (arm out odors 24/7 phewww) ,flea/tick allergies, or they were service dogs. Won’t hurt the dog if she doesn’t mind doing it we’ll won’t hurt to let her. Unless the dog has dry skin issues then put a bottle of specialty skin soap where she bathed him! Well hope she doesn’t lol.

    Lost 35lbs as of today
    Sw-195
    Cw-160
Today Cous cous, sushi,y corn brunch with 4oz sweet tea
    Later 4oz skinless chicken,Mexican cornbread,apple slices,4 Oz tea.
Snack probably the granola hubby bought me

Lanette: The work on the horse area planned at the county park was a great opportunity to do something constructive that is not stressful. It took my mind off of worries for a few hours. DH’s health is a big source of worry right now and will be for a while. He has an appointment with the surgeon Tuesday to discuss what can be done. I hope there is genuine help available. He’s had three previous back & neck surgeries over a period of many years, beginning in 1992. His most recent surgeon predicted he’d be back for more surgery 5 years ago. :ohwell:

Yesterday we were invaded by tiny black ants. They were coming into the kitchen where there is a window. The window was closed, but they found a way in anyway. I got out a big can of Raid Ant and Roach killer and sprayed the outside of the window frames thoroughly. So far, so good. I haven't seen any more ants inside my house today. We have an overcast day so far and it is a welcome opportunity to rest. I hope to put some fun into it as the day goes along. We will see.

Katla ~ We have also been recently invaded with tiny ants. The exterminator came and sprayed but they are still showing up in the bathroom sink. For some reason, I think they somehow come up the pipes.

Had a huge lunch of fahitas with refried beans, guacomole salad, chips and frozen margaritas. So, there won't be any dinner. No way I can figure out how to log it.

Katla and Carol if you are looking for natural ways to deter ants. Cinnamon sprinkled in their path. Wash down their path with
vinegar or lemon juice. You can also plant mint around your home.

I want to program JRs IPad Amazon Freetime (not free lol 😂 yearly fee) to block what we don’t want. Theirs books to apps tailored for so many well He doesn’t need Barbie or the one on why my body is changing from transgender hormone therapy or how to make my own jewelry to purses or the ones in other languages other than English mainly some Spanish y Hebrew or the learn another language ones. I like the cookbooks to learning ones mainly, but theirs a ton of different religions to even a book against recycling. Books that are well deemed racist to ones that well we don’t need ones on acne yet lol.Raising kids definitely isn’t for the faint of heart no more. How anyone can be against recycling is beyond me. The purse out of plastic bag ones good for girls but wish they had more boy craft ones like leather embossing my Dads good at it! Used to use his skill for my belts to leather bookmarks y bracelets.
Problem is JR sees me with it he’s in the MINE phase so hard to get it long enough to search through thousands of apps, books,y videos the prints so darn small!

Dinner decided chicken 4oz,tea 4oz,Cous Cous, corn,y Mexican cornbread.
Thinking the new Valley type granola hubby got me as a treat with Apple later for a treat.
