WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR AUGUST 2019

My DDIL has arranged a pre birthday lunch for me the weekend before the cruise. My son will be cooking. My elder son has said he will be coming down, so that's a rare treat. I'm going to take it easy on the catering as I will be stressed about getting ready for the cruise. I can see an Indian takeaway in my future.
Will be strange to have a celebratory lunch with no alcohol! Don't give me birthday wishes yet anyone as it's the end of September.
It's the same weekend as Edie's 6th birthday. She is having a party for her class in a hall.

Debby Va- if he hasn’t hurt the kids yet he will eventually. Goes only 4 ways
1. Son/Daughter become like Daddy hitting mommy y siblings to get his approval
2. A punching bag like mommy for Daddy’s anger
3. They get hurt age 6+ when they get in between Daddy yell don’t hit my mommy even possibly punch daddy back (My Daughter did this one) (My child rapist became #1 who was her Bio Dad) (My Mom was #2 for her step dad y dad)
4.Kills or permanently injuries the child to punish mommy (My Ex coworkers son still can barely walk to this day she’s so scared of men she’s a Lesbian her wife same story for her but her baby didn’t survive so she clings to my ex coworkers kids as her own).
As a parent you think keeping the peace will save them ,but eventually you realize since you can’t save yourself you can’t save your kids. My Daughter called APS number she saw on the school bathroom door (adult protection services) they came looking for me but Daughter then 7yrs old convinced me to go in. They were combing the country side for me while I sat in their office. I kept repeating want my Daughter to be safe forget about me.Daughter kept repeating I’m tough forget about me save my Mom. Then she escaped from them came y found me started protecting me cause I was shaking. They realized she was the strong one I was broken. They came to every hearing for over 3years for me to get freedom. They counseled me helped me prepare my new home for court inspections. They put plans in order to taught me how to conseal my identity in public.Hair cut y temporary color that I changed a lot. Clothing changes to even how to go about things like downloading the online parenting programs for court. They did a lot. They had us go to the doctor to document more.

We got rid of our landline about two years ago primarily because of all the telemarketing calls. Our current cell phones hold a charge for a long time and we both have created the habit of plugging them in for awhile once or twice a day, I keep the ringer off almost all the time and check from time to time to see if I've gotten a call. The only time it's not on silent is if I'm expecting a call and want to be able to answer when it comes. I carry my phone in my pocket so it's available when I need it. It has a step counter so I have the added advantage of seeing how active I've been.
janetr, sorry to hear that all is not well with your knee replacement. Best wishes for a satisfactory outcome.
Lanette, best wishes on your upcoming surgery and recovery.
Yesterday I ate bok choy and spinach grown in Jake's new raised garden bed. There is also a cucumber that will be ready to eat soon.
A few weeks ago a very disruptive issue erupted in my town. Someone wanted to make an announcement in my line dance class about it and answer questions and circulate a petition for her point of view. I told her that the class was a safe place for fun and she couldn't do that. However she convinced the teacher in the other class to allow it and it seriously upset one woman enough that she refused to come back to the class. The repeated appearance of the petition and fliers have made the class feel very hostile and unsafe and I've not known who was safe to talk to. In contrast, my class continues to be a place with hugs, laughter, and applause for the dances. It is like the difference between our thread and many of the others on MFP, I love all of you and am so grateful that you leave your partisan issues elsewhere.

Landline 📞- Got rid of mine 3 1/2yrs who I’m always terrified that a long cell call or baby playing on it or even too long if Youtube video or pictures will drain the battery we won’t have a way to call out. Daughter reminds me log into your iPad or computer use it! They have apps quick app load y dial out! She gave me a speed charger so one for hubby y one for me in baby room. Chargers all over the house! She also reminds me neighbors have phones! Still watching it worst fear is not being able to get help. She says can post on a forum folks can call for you even from an iPad even JRs baby one. High tech geniuses yet I fear I’ll forget to do it if I’m panicked so charging away!!! Take a charger can plug into an outside outlet even quick dial y run
Amber Tx
I keep mine plugged in most of the time, and when I'm out and about, I have a backup battery pack.
I also have a quick security code so that I don't accidentally open something, and I don't use my phone for videos etc.
So it's rare my battery drops below 50%.

Went to the water class. Vince and Jess left a little after 7 so I had time to make it. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Firm Max Cardio Burn DVD.
Volunteered at the soup kitchen. They had a sausage on a roll with onions and macaroni salad on the side. Cake (again) for dessert. There is this one lady that another volunteer said of her “oh, she’s the mean one”. She asked me to get plates. I had no idea where I was to get them. She said to me “don’t you know what a plate is?” Then she showed me where they were. Some people!
Janetr – congrats! Matthew must be getting so big by now. Sheesh! I remember when he was born! I’m so sorry about your knee So glad to hear about granddaughter’s bf
Kim from North Cal – better get out your long johns!
Debbie in VA – I can understand how you’re feeling towards that SFB (*** for brains)
M – that’s the way I feel about so many calls “if it’s important, they’ll leave a message. And if they don’t want to…oh well, their loss, not mine”
Not a coffee drinker. Had a cup maybe about 4 years ago, it was at a Marriott Hotel so you know it wasn’t an off brand. But to me it was very bitter. That’s probably because I hadn’t had a cup in maybe 4 years before that. Now I don’t even bother with it. But give me my tea…..

Limited time this week to visit on line, think I have caught up!
Beth near Buffalo – I got a lift chair when my first hip was going. It was a life saver. After surgery, it was where I slept for a few weeks before I could comfortably get in and out of bed. Living by myself, it really helped. I still have it but very seldom sit in it now, but if I ever need something, I am set. And you don’t have to use the lift option.
Carol in GA – sorry BIL in such bad shape. The delirium tremens can be fatal, but people can also come back from them. Horrible way to discover the drinking issue.
Debby in VA- prayers for daughter. Has she tried a domestic violence shelter? They can provide a safe place, counseling, and assist in finding home.
KetoneKaren -has there ever been a colonoscopy prep that isn’t wretched?
Tracey – thanks for sharing beautiful wedding photos.
Lisa in Ar -I found your rant involving job funny (sorry, but you write with such humor). It is nice to be in a place where you don’t need a job-and no need to be miserable. Hope it doesn’t get to that.
Machka – good stress relief ideas. I actually use some of them. May pick up a diffuser this weekend-keep thinking about it but know nothing about them.
Lanette – seems strange that would happen after 7 years. Good luck with surgery. Last year I had a small tumor removed from neck and told them that anesthesia had started making me nauseous the last couple of surgeries. They put one of the patches behind my ear and I think it really helped.
Had church council Tuesday night, public event at work (over three hundred parents and kids showed up-handed out more shoes, fun event) and then last night Food Pantry at church (served 247 people), and worked all week. Feeling a bit tired tonight!
Yesterday man who mows my lawn called and informed me I have mud burrowing wasps in back yard. Arranged for exterminator to come out today (I am allergic to bees, etc.) When I got home I looked out back window and there was a large number of them flying around. Wasn't really able to identify what type they might be, all sorts of things can burrow. Exterminator called me this am at work and said he could be there at 10:30 this ma instead of late this pm. Left work and met him. He told me they aren't an aggressive type (I guess the males don't sting and most of them are males). I had gone out this morning very early before they were out and found 11 burrows. We found quite few more. He put a powder done the holes we could find and a topical treatment on grass. My neighbor also had some, so she asked if he could treat her place. We basically split the bill $80.00 (including tax). Said it may take up to a week for all of them to die. I guess they would have died in three weeks or so, but eggs will be left in burrow. Lived in this house 28 years and never had them. When I came home, checked yard and much fewer flying about.
Personally, I think it is good when the wasps are the worst thing that happened this week!

Barbara- I give you permission to stand your ground! Tell them Oh well I come here for exercise not politics do you have a problem with that? Stare at them practice your on my last nerves dead stare! Drop the flyer on the ground if she hands you one say I’m here for exercise only. If anyone turns to that topic discuss recipes to the weather out of the blue! They can lump it if they don’t like it. Wait for it to blow over or others here you they’ll stand up too!

I am able to stay within my 1200 - 1000 calorie goal per day. My exercise of walking 4 miles a day (I have not missed a day since I started 1 month ago!) always gives me more calories but I have gone over 1200 to 1387 only one time. It shows I am still eating the right amount of calories but my weight is up and down. I do notice that if I do not eat at least 1000 calories, I gain weight the next day! That really ticks me off, so now I am careful to eat at least 1000 calories. I work as an adjunct instructor with three universities; I am happy to say the work keeps me from wanting to eat all the time. Using a computer 6 - 8 hours a day is good for keeping the hands busy! I guess at 75 years of age, I am doing okay. I still get irritated when people refer to me as an elderly woman! I have lost a total of 6 pounds in the last month so that is good! I was so pleased to see the 140s, even though it was the high 140s.6

HI cityjaneLondon,
We are very plastic conscious too. My husband has LUPUS and heart problems and we do not use plastic much except when we are vacationing. I bought stainless steel straws to avoid using the plastic ones!

Debby - I hope your daughter finds the strength she needs to get out of that relationship soon and I pray she gets out safely.
Karen in VA - that was interesting to read, I’ve sworn to my husband that my snoring bothers him only on nights he isn’t sleeping well.
Janet - so sorry to read about your knee, that must be so discouraging.
We got rid of our landline in 2016 when we moved here. I kept one for a lot longer than necessary because our bundle for cable, internet and phone would have increased in price if I had cancelled. The only person to use it was my Mom and Dad for years.
Went to get my haircut by Kaitlyn at her work tonight and met her new manager who is from the town we were living in when we moved here. As we were talking I found out her Dad grew up in the town I grew up in. Talked a bit more and found out that her Great Grandfather was my Grandmother’s brother. So their great granddaughters are working together in a city 3000 miles away from where they lived. Very small world indeed.

I am struggling so....health and meds are making it hard & stress when told in spring that I will be laid off come sep.1 has a had a huge impact.
I have got to figure out how to get my head back on track8 -
Today was shopping day! I bought yogurts, and meal replacement drinks for breakfasts. I bought fruits for a snack before lunch and after workouts. Lunch is either spinach and salmon salad, or lean cuisines. Dinner is lean cuisines too. Bought 2 pizzas, two turkey with dressing and apple cinnamon dessert, some pasta meals, and a good ramen meal. I bought some great artisan hearty bread for my tuna melt meals, and bought Kashi cookies for a treat each night. When we came home I promptly took my peach and ate it! Yummo! The skin too, it was like eating a dessert! I messed up a kitchen towel holding that! I have my whole menu written out.👍. Husband will be eating simply but I got him good stuff. It came to $97, but its because I bought the smoked salmon which was $6 for about 2 servings. All in all a good shopping run.
Watching "Alone" a series about 10 dropped off in the Arctic, to survive. Right now its day 69 and there are 3 people left. Watching that show makes me think, you know feeling a tad bit hungry at night time isn't so bad. I am not eating the intestines of rabbits like that one gal. It puts life into an interesting perspective. Perseverance is my word of the month!
Taking meds before I might have to get an upper endoscopy. Maybe have an ulcer. Hopefully these meds will clear up any infections I might have. Tricare insurance won't cover an endoscopy without anything leading up to it, so I had a blood test, and will call doctor next week about the results. My blood pressure has been under control with my pills for that, running about 112/72. Preventive medicine to keep this body of mine humming. Oh also happy to report my skin condition Lichen Sclerosis is in remission! My clobetosol meds has me feeling no itchiness or lesions. Its so great to not have any of that to deal with.
Peace out ladies, and hugs all round!

Rebecca Athena is adorable!
I was looking at a map recently, & I noticed Whidbey Island & realized that's where you live! How interesting! How close together geographically are you & the other gals on this thread who live in Washington?

Katla yes biccies are biscuits
HEATHER your DIL is so thoughtful that lunch will be lovely with your boys and grands. The film I saw is based on the autobiography of a writer who was inspired by the music of Bruce Springsteen. Interesting to hear of how music or other external stuff inspires people.
My eating is still all over the place but I still exercise thank goodness. Think it's due to stress, waiting for results from of DEXA scan get those by Wed I hope and still no news on pilots strike
Things to do today
Carry on with sewing project (polka dot skirt and top)
Order flowers to be delivered for cousin birthday (she's 89 on Wed and the oldest cousin last Wed my brother was 59 and he's the youngest) just realised exactly 30 years difference
REBECCA Athena is so cute want to hug her right now

Ginny: We just had to deal with a wasp nest under the soffit board at the corner of our roof. Hoping that it has worked. DH is going to spray powder into it again just to make sure it's all clear.
Tracey: It is indeed a small world.
Rebecca: Athena! 💕💖💕
I'm feeling lazy this morning as we were out rocking until after midnight at a U3A 60s night. Great music! Great company!
💃🏻🕺🏻 There's life in the old dog yet!
DH had a biopsy done on his prostate a few weeks ago, and the results came back negative! Yay!!! He's having his bloods MOT next Friday, but that's just routine.
My Physio appointment on Thursday went well. She zapped my knee with some hi tech machine, and gave me some new exercises to do. Next appointment is in a fortnight. The dancing last night didn't aggravate it unduly, but I will just do gentle exercise today to give it a wee rest.
The hospital rang yesterday and I have a gynaecologist appointment next Friday to check on my prolapse situation. Maintaining an aging body takes as much work as keeping an old car running, but at least with our NHS it's much less expensive. (I know! I have had a few old bangers in the past!)
After 2 days of heavy rain, we are having a very pleasant Saturday. I should be able to get out into the garden for an hour or two, once I get back from the butcher's. We may even take a wee trip out on the boat if the weather stays good. There is a fireworks display in one of the nearby seaside villages tonight, and we may go and see what's going on there.
Out of time, as I want to get on with things.
😎 Have a productive and joyful weekend 😎
(((Hugs))) to those who need them.

Kate UK - The film sounds great. I don't go to the cinema any more, but it will come on TV eventually. Or maybe Amazon Prime. I used to go in London to the first showing, around lunch time. I used to combine it with a really spicy curry laksa at a Malaysian restaurant.
Biscuits, to Americans, means scones. You meant cookies, the hard variety. Your cinema sounds great - I'd love to go to one like that!
Prep day today for my friend visiting. GF loaf cake to make. Food to prep. Bed to make. Bit of housework. I'm going to fetch a chilli out of the freezer as I'll have plenty of other cooking to do.
I did a Barbie yesterday. A friend I reconnected with at the school year reunion has asked to meet up. To be honest, although once upon a time she was my best friend, I have hardly anything in common with her now. I have been avoiding her, as she lives in the next town. So, I decided I didn't want to spend much time with her and suggested a meet up at a restaurant that does cheap OAP fish lunches in town.(She is hard up) I will have a chat, then make my excuses and leave.
She has cancer and is having a lot of treatment for it. Her life is much more confined and restricted than mine, so I decided to be the bigger person. So we are meeting in about 10 days time.
Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxx4 -
Good morning all! Happy Saturday! I went to bed last night with the thought, "I don't have to set my alarms! I can sleep in!" And my eyes closed. Next thing I know, my eyes opened and I was looking at my alarm clock. 4:47am. *sigh close eyes. Too warm. Flip blanket off. Still too warm. Sheet off. Now I feel "exposed". Sheet back on. Move to cooler spot on the bed. Flip pillow to cool side. Ugh...now I am on fire. Open eyes. Look at clock. 5am. I guess I am up. *sigh. Damn.
Coffee- It has been a few years (about 10) since I have had to limit my coffee to two cups before noon. As a former restaurant worker, I used to drink coffee all day, up until bed time and still get to sleep with no problem. Then at about age 40, THAT little habit became a problem. Lack of sleep and perimenopausal made me the crankiest person alive! So I cut back to two cups before noon (because I get up so early now, I am finished with both cups by 8am). HOWEVER, you ladies have pointed something out to me. The increase in coffee intake cutting into quality sleep. I just realized, I am still drinking two cups, but my cup sizes have changed. I received a set of large mugs last Christmas and I love the weight and feel of them in my hand and use them all of the time, now. The thing is, they hold almost twice the amount my old cups do! (cue lightbulb going on in my head). I am probably drinking close to four cups of coffee in the morning! I am going to cut down to one mug (that will equal about two regular sized cups) and see if that helps with the sleep (and maybe the hot flashing?) Here's hoping.
Pip- Loving the selfies! I took my first one when I got my hair cut recently. lol That will probably be it.
BArbie- That would be irritating to have someone come into a place where people go to relax, de-stress, and have fun and start promoting their own social/political agenda. Grrr. I think most of your dance class students would agree with you, on keeping class an unbiased/unpolitical space.
Today, after my usual grocery and other errands, I will see if I can get my spaceship finished for next week. It will definitely fit all six kids inside. If I can get it built, I can spend tomorrow adding lights and gadgets and setting up "Mission Control" next to it and I also want to hang a "galaxy wall" behind it.
I have a friend who is vacationing (long weekend) in town this weekend. I want to take a couple hours and visit with her, as well. I will fit that in sometime today, as she will be leaving at some time tomorrow (depending on the weather).
Time marches on. Love and hugs to all! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)
