Debby in VA Your poor daughter! It's so incredibly sad that she interprets the failure of a relationship with an abusive man as a personal failure. My friend Pam was in a similar situation - more than 30 years ago - and I will never forget her now-husband's response to her when she thanked him for treating her so well. He told her she was so used to being abused that being treated with basic decency & respect seemed extraordinary to her. That he wasn't doing anything special. She married him & they have been happy for many years. I hope your daughter eventually finds someone like this.

I noticed today that, because I was cross about something, my time on the elliptical was pretty close to my PR, without me even trying. Clearly exercise is a great stress reliever!
Walking and running by the sea is wonderful, especially if the waves are up!
I do breathing meditation, just for a few minutes.
An orgasm is good, whether with a partner, or vibrator. Or two. Or three.
My best stress reliever is playing with a happy grandchild. That is true Mindfulness.
I love crashing out with a silly daytime programme, like Bargain Hunt, Flog It, or Antiques Roadtrip. Pure relaxation.
I love my 5 pm aperitif. Along with a silly programme.
Having said all that I could not get to sleep last night. Grrrrrrrrrr! I think I'm a bit nervous/excited about my friend coming to stay and having the grandkids over. I wasn't worrying about anything, but my brain wouldn't settle. I've been washing sofa and cushion covers etc. Thank goodness the cleaner is arriving in a minute! My friend is coeliac, so I have to plan food a bit more. Haven’t decided on a menu yet.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx7 -

Not long after my husband's accident, I went running along the ocean on a day where the wind was howling and waves were crashing. I was the only one out there so I ran and screamed into the wind and waves for about half an hour.
I needed that.
I've needed it since then but the conditions haven't been right. For one thing, it's a reasonably popular place so there are usually lots of families. I think someone would call the authorities if I ran and screamed on a calm sunny day with lots of people.

Vicki in GINE: Thank you for your kind words. DH is doing his best to deal with this. Waiting for the surgery is very hard. :flowerforyou:
Kim: Let a fan blow over a bowl of ice cubes and blow cool air directly at your face. It will help a little. Do you have a basement that is any cooler? :flowerforyou:
Meg: Sometimes Jack and Coke are good friends, in smallish doses. I have found that I don’t do well with them because I lack the discipline to stick with a smallish dose. One sip leads to another, and another . . . It turns out that None is better for me. :ohwell:
Machka: I love all of your updated suggestions! As to sending you some summer, you will get your turn. I don’t have any summer to spare and I already feel the days are shortening. :grumble: What is your latitude?
Allie: When I lost weight, my ring was too big. I took it to a jeweler who made it a bit smaller and added thickness to it. It fits just fine now.
Debbie in VA: I’m sorry that your daughter is feeling unloveable. Abusers can be physically abusive but some are emotionally abusive. You can’t see bruises on the outside but they’re inside where self-esteem suffers . Perhaps a visit to the doctor would help. Counseling can help and so can antidepressants. Anti-depressants are sometimes overprescribed but they are also sometimes very helpful. :flowerforyou:
Heather: DH is a celiac and can’t digest foods containing gluten. There are loads of great gluten free products on the market including bread, buns and rolls. DH likes them well enough. I still eat products with gluten but occasionally eat a gluten free bun with him. Potatoes, rice and sweet potatoes are all yummy and he can eat them with no worries. Asian foods are often easy for him. Baked goods made with rice, potato and corn flour are great for him. Bob’s Red Mill has wonderful gluten free flours if you want to cook at home.
Viv UK: Pip has the boot, and I bet she’ll share if you ask. I’ve recently noticed my weight has crept up, too. I notice because of a wonky knee. If I put on pounds it hurts to walk. I’m back on track and the extra weight is slowly coming back off. :ohwell:
DH is stoic and complains very little, but he is in constant pain. I can hardly wait for the appointment with the surgeon. The first appointment will not include surgery. They’ll evaluate his back and make a plan. The plan can’t get here soon enough, and neither can the surgery.

It's a raining Thursday here. Been raining since about 7 last evening. Sure doesn't seem fair the first day of school and it's raining. Summer seemed to fly by. I have been working on year end evalutions for my staff. Our year here goes from July 1 to June 30. I have mine made out and now just meet with each person one on one to go over and then get them sent in to main HR.
Tracey--Beautiful wedding pictures, thanks for sharing.
Karen--Glad your test is done.
I am caught up again. Not a lot going on here. Got a call my new glasses are in so will get picked up this afternoon or tomorrow. I am looking forward to being about to read better. Time will tell.
Blessings, Vicki GI NE1 -

Had the most delicious locally caught Brill (fish) today. Heaven! I walked over to the fish market for my bonus exercise.
Of course, it is mega expensive, but reasonably low in calories, provided I don't add too much butter. Had it with a huge pile of fresh spinach.
As the cleaner was here I also did a separate trip to the supermarket for more calorie burn.
Katla - I bought gluten free flour to make a yoghurt and chocolate chip loaf that I looked up on line. I will make it on Saturday. I also bought a gf seed bread. I think I know what I'm going to cook now. One new veggie dish for starters and a tried and trusted chicken favourite for main. The mango sorbet will do service AGAIN for dessert. Must remember to buy a lime for squeezing.
I've stocked up for the grandchildren tomorrow. The weather should be fine first thing, so we might drag them down to the beach with the promise of an ice cream. It's supposed to rain later. I have a dental check up at 12.45, so I'll put food on the table early and go.
My Portsmouth friend wants to get together with me on Tuesday, so we will meet in Brighton for lunch. Phew! Busy, busy. After that there is a long period with absolutely nothing planned. Hooray!
Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxx2 -
If you’re using Bob’s Red Mill, don’t forget to get your $1 off coupon online!
Well, got everything packed for Jess from the house then at her storage unit. Then we had to go to the place where we’re renting the auto trailer and they put her car up on it.
Since it's so late, we'll go for an early dinner. I'm thinking of this sushi and grill place. Jess likes Sushi, Vince doesn't but he'll eat grill. I have to look online at their menu

Heather: You are the hostess with the mostess. Your Portsmouth friend will feel like royalty.
Michele in NC: Bob’s Red Mill is not nearby but it is within driving distance from us. We’ve never gone, mostly because of traffic issues between here and there. Our local stores all carry their products. One of these days DH will be feeling better and we may take an excursion to see it in person. There is a lot of heavy traffic between here and there unless we time things just right. DH’s back troubles come first. Everything else is next. :flowerforyou:
DDIL and DS were travelling in Morocco several years ago and bought a lovely little purse for me. The purse had a tassel on the closing flap and that tassel finally disintegrated a few days ago. I went shopping for a new tassel and didn’t find a thing. I came home and found a bead in my bead box that was exactly the right size and shade of pink to go with the purse. I just finished putting it on the purse in place of the former tassel. It was a fun project and put a smile on my face. I'm sorry that I don't have a photo to share.

Good morning all! Happy Thursday! Haven't heard from Mary in a couple of days; I hope the meds are working. Pins and needles for me, having a kiddo going through this and, as of right now, there is nothing I can do to help. Breathing...
Machka-I am sure my suggestion falls under exercise; but my first step to reducing stress is usually hitting or kicking something (a punching bag) or running (if I don't have anything to hit or kick). I need to do something that will physically let me get all of the frustration and anger out, then I go into a calming/more meditative stress relief.
Rori- Can't say enough about a gratitude journal! I also keep a regular journal to express some of my stresses.
Terri- loved your poem! You are a talented writer!
Amber- Thanks for the words on add/adhd in young kids and the fluctuating hormones! Your JR sounds like a pistol!
Rita- I would definitely be with you in cooling off in a sprinkler, if I were there! Holy Smokes! That is some major heat! And it has stayed in the 100s for a while, has it not?
Cheri- Your blankets are so pretty! The colors and the crochet pattern, both! Congrats to Ros on the new job/living quarters! Must be nice watching her get back on her feet!
Debbie VA- Sending prayers for your daughter/grandchildren. I hope she can make the break for good! Sending strength as well! She will need it whatever choice she makes!
Tracey- Count me in as a fan of the beautiful wedding photos! Hope you had fun with the grandkids!
Katie and Sharon- I haven't tried a green smoothie, yet. My smoothies are always berries (strawberry, blueberry and raspberry) mixed with greek yogurt. I like greens; but I do have an issue with fruit. Many fruit flavors put my gag reflex into overdrive. Plus...working at home, I have a lot of greens on hand to have a salad/green sandwich for meals.
Meg- Holy Hannah! What a day! Hope you were able to relax a bit and get a good night's rest!
Karen VA- Glad your colonoscopy went well! ONe less thing to worry about for a few years!
Well, it was another early morning for me. One of my kiddos is usually dropped off by grandma at about 9am each day. But beginning today and into next week (Monday only) she will be dropped off at 6am by mama, because Grandma and Grandpa are having a long weekend away. (I say hurray for them!) Miss Lilah (age 2) arrived this morning and walked through the quiet house; "Where are the kids? Kids still sleeping?" lol As the last to arrive at my house and the first to be picked up in the afternoon, normally, she thought all of the kids lived here! I told her that the kids would be dropped off a little later; but she kept walking down the hall and telling me to get the babies up!
We released another newly hatched butterfly, yesterday. He was brought from one of my kid's homes, because his chrysalis was clear and you could see he was about to hatch. So the kids got to watch the whole thing. I got video of it, but it is on my facebook page. Haven't figured out how to get it here. Out of the six Monarch eggs that I started with only two have made it to fifth instar caterpillar stage. In the wild only 10% of all Monarch eggs become butterflies! So as bad as I feel for only having two of the six make it this far, I am beating the odds. It is an amazing thing to watch.
Welcome new ladies! Sending lots of love, encouragement and strength your way, to help you in whatever stage of "living well" you are in! This is a large group with an endless array of topics winding through our posts. Feel free to jump in whenever the spirit moves you and feel free to skim (as many of us do out of a simple lack of time). Please don't feel slighted or ignored if your post doesn't get a response; most of us are working with old brains that don't retain as well as they used to! lol If the question you have is important and you really need help or suggestions feel free to put the whole thing in bold type!
More kids arriving! Time to fly! Love to you all! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)
Kelly love that you are helping the Monarchs. If you could have the eggs out in natural light that would be even better. I learned they need natural light to help them be in sync for when they migrate to Mexico. If you have them in a box or butterfly cage just set it up in a place in your yard that doesn't get too hot. Last year I place a bird cage over a chrysalis outside to protect it from rabbits. It was made on a plant the rabbits like to eat. It did become a Monarch. You are right it is magical to see them become butterflies.2 -
Michele NC- Looking on Walmart.com at Bobs red mill wow even gluten free biscuits now! I remember when they mainly made flour only but not biscuit mix $4.99 with directions printed on it. Sounds cholesterol friendlier than what we’re using. Pancakes 🥞 mix too wondering if JR would accept it or not??? Worth a try to find out.
Odd rain storm just started here in San Antonio not a cloud in the sky but giant far apart drops flying sideways! Well there goes our internet if it gets worse.Yellow skies

Our south driveway, they are running water from our side of the street, under the four lane street, to a new Senior duplex development. Then they have to run a water pipe from north of us down to the place they are now working. Both our north and south drive will be torn up and most likely all of the sidewalk in between. Noisy and dusty. Argh
The only positive note, I told our next door neighbors when the time comes we'll borrow a school crossing guard, to hold up stop signs, all of us hold hands and toddle across the street to live at the new senior development

Just running by as I'm between a report, which is out in draft form, and a grant which is also completed, but is marinating until next week.
I am in some kind of funk today myself, and I really need a project going over and above work, and need to start it soon to fill up these empty moments. Otherwise, I eat.
Love y'all,

Lisa: Be sure to let us know what project you choose. We all need to keep our hands busy now and then.
Janetr: I can picture all of us holding hands and crossing the road two by two. As many as we are now, that could take a little while.
Tonight’s concert in the park features someone named Patrick Lamb. He plays Soul Saxophone. I’m looking forward to listening. I plan to skip eating an elephant ear this evening.

Busy day today. Doc in morning- I have a sinus infection which explains most of my feeling bleh. Got meds for that. BP med reduction is working great so staying the same until I see cardiologist in October at which time I’m hoping to get off it completely.
DH was supposed to get results of ultrasound for hernia. Didn’t happen as imaging center never sent results to doctor. Frustrating!
After this, spent an hour at laundromat which brought us to lunch. Had half a Wendy’s Southwest Avocado Salad (I love these!) then on to Walmart to pick up meds and a couple groceries. Home, put clothes and groceries away, put clean sheets on beds. Had a dinner of a handful of my magnesium nut mix and a piece of dark chocolate.
Now relaxing after taking first dose of antibiotics.

Hi ladies. This has been one of those all day meeting days where they hold you captive and feed you at an offsite location you can't bring food into. Those are the worst. I'm a good employee; just tell me what to do and it will get done. But we all die here from meeting mania.
I think something in my shower handle has stripped. It has to be the faucet gizmo, because I can get hot water everywhere else. I'll have to take a closer look.
Katla: fortunately I can stop my drinking at two...mainly because any more and I fall asleep! I'm a cheap date.
Loving the pictures! Nothing else to report; I think I told you DH is halfway done. hmmmmm I hear singing!
Take care lovely ladies! Meg from Omaha2 -
Connie - I’m still waiting for summer here. I think it forgot to come.
Kelly - I hope that Trentin is getting better and that you hear soon. Little Lilah sounds adorable. I would love to see the butterfly, I haven’t figured out how to post videos on here yet either.
Heather - I love your stress relief plans.
Well I shredded 26 bags bags of paperwork this week, some dating back to 2008. It was a lot of tedious reading and standing at the shredder but it’s done and I’m so happy.
Tomorrow I am helping my Administrator clean and declutter an office down the hall for a new employee starting on Monday.
I stayed up too late reading last night and could go for a nap right now. I won’t or that will make for a sleepless night tonight, but I sure could!
Had a nice visit with the Grands last night i need to bring them for a sleepover soon.

Janetr – there is a townhome complex near here. Across the street is a senior assisted living facility, and across the street from that is a funeral home. People laugh and say “one stop living”
Jess wanted to go out to dinner. I knew that before she went to Iowa she’d want NY Hibachi. So that’s where we went. The good news is that they make a stir fry (is that it), where you pick your ingredients so I chose shrimp, crab, mushrooms, broccoli, some sort of greens, onions and chicken. Then they fry it and I asked for no butter or sauce. I did also have some baked salmon and a half piece of this fish and a small pork chop. The chicken was dry, and for dessert watermelon, orange, and a small napoleon (which wasn’t really good so I didn’t even eat the whole thing which was pretty small to begin with).
When we came out, did I ever have a cramp in my abdomen. Came home and went to the bathroom (sorry if TMI), then diarrhea twice. I had some Dove chocolates (2) and a few pretzel rods, and nothing seems to be happening. So I guess it’s all over. I’ve had the same thing to eat before when we’ve gone there – must have been just a momentary thing. I’m not going to tell Jess that this happened because I know the entire time she’s driving out to Iowa she’ll be “I hope mom is OK”. She was concerned that I wouldn’t have anything to do….lol I’m wondering where I’ll find the time to do all the things I want to do….lol

Got really sick last night, thought it was another small bowel obstruction but I waited it out. Been very lazy all day and feeling weak. Hope tomorrow is a better day.

Michele NC- perhaps a different cook than usual made it.Gad a coworker who loved crisco we all used butter. A few had stomach upsets when he cooked others who are crisco fans loved his cooking. Problem was I have stomach disease could not eat his cooking. He realized it had my friend/coworker make it for me because she got it!
Found a great article a must read about a Woman who’s husband wasn’t diagnosed with Asbergers until late 50’s how things made sense after that. Reminded me of my high school friend who became a major pharmacist for a pharmaceutical company then in her 30 Mark was diagnosed with Biopolar disorder. Things made sense after that ,but lost her job because of it.Had to pick up the pieces. She would date guys would run we as friends accepted her mood swings thought nothing of them. Now we know it was early signs of it since childhood. She got angry easily then close herself in her room not want to play anymore or even get depressed during a school ice cream party even she didn’t know why.

JR - I told Vince about my upset stomach and the absolute first thing he said was "was there anything you had different?" Always has to be something you ate. No, I had what I usually have. It was probably some sort of intestinal bug that didn't last. ahhhh...
Seems I'm better now. It only lasted a few hours.
