I've looked at the flannel ones but they aren't stretchy enough for me. I probably look a bit odd in the nightwear department going through the "bottoms" and pulling at the legs to check for stretchiness!!

It's sort of funny in a way ... before moving to Australia, when I lived in Canada, I didn't have much in the way of nightwear at all. Just a couple nightgowns which I wore once in a while. But I've been putting together a nice collection of nightwear here because it gets so cold at night!!

Regarding Weight ... I've discovered I've got a limit. So far, anyway. When I hit 180 lbs (which I've done twice in my life, very briefly), I start to struggle with breathing and with sitting on soft furniture like a sofa. I start feeling really uncomfortable. I get all sorts of really bad indigestion.

When that happens, it's definitely time to start exercising more and eating less.

Even 175 is more comfortable than 180.

I'm not sure what it is ... my particular fat distribution, maybe, puts pressure on my lungs and other organs. But it's a good alarm bell!

Went to Food Lion, I thought they had the rib eye on sale like they did Tuesday. But their ad changes on Wednesday so it was the regular price. Oh well. But I did get Vince some Chips Ahoy for a little over a dollar and his Pepsi for 89 cents. I also got a few other things.

Lanette – Shadow will be in Iowa with Jess. I read the letter yesterday saying how she’s a therapy cat. What a load of bs! But it’ll save Jess $50/month. It cost her $150 to get this so after 3 months it’ll have paid for itself. Vince doesn’t like to walk with me, which is OK. But he doesn’t want to invite people he doesn’t know to a neighborhood pool party, but how is he ever going to get to know them? God forbid, if your hubby were ever in the hospital, wouldn’t surprise me one bit if a neighbor answered your question of “how much” with “nothing”. I know that’s what I would do

JR – I can’t remember the last time I wore a 2-piece. Oh, now I remember. Before Jess was born (over 30 years ago) a guy Vince worked with had a party with an “Island” theme. I bought a 2piece and had a grass skirt over the bottom. That was the last time. I don’t know if I ever wore one to a pool or beach. I remember back when when I took a sewing class we had to make a bathing suit (a 2 piece). I gave away the pattern since I certainly won’t use it. I hope your back gets better fast

M – I didn’t look at who was posting and was shocked to see “the stores around here must think it’s summer”. Then I realized it was you posting. Lots of times I read the post then look to see who made the post. Sometimes I do it that way, sometimes I look at who made the post and then read it. I guess it depends on how much time I have.

Rori – I wish I could find a Reiki master like you have found. I’d love to experience that. The one time I had Reiki, I honestly didn’t experience anything but a good massage.

Chlorine resistant swimsuits: yes, they are more expensive initially. But I have one I’ve had for at least 6 years and another that I must have had for about 5 years. The one that is 6 years old I had someone put new elastic in the legs for me (cost $5 to have it put in). After all these years, the elastic wore out. I will probably have to do that for the one I’ve had for 5 years. But they are certainly worth it.

Ken & Lynette came over tonight. Lynette went into the hot tub, she had trouble getting in, finally got in, then had trouble getting out. They did give Jess something over $100 to take to Iowa. I thought that was very nice of them.

Jess said that she talked to the people next door and the son said something about his mother thinking that she needed to reply by today for next weekend. Sounds lame to me. Anyway, guess I’ll run to WalMart get hamburgers, hot dog buns, hamburger buns. I can't help wondering if it's the same thing "I don't want to go where I don't know the people" but there's only one way to meet people!

The last time I wore a 2-piece! This was taken in December 2004 on a cruise out to the Great Barrier Reef off Queensland. I'm with a friend from the UK. I'm 52 in 2019, so ... I would have been 37 there.




And yes, winter is definitely out and about this weekend! It's not nice out there at all.

Machka - I used to do pivot tables all the time but since I haven’t used them in so many years I don’t know if I would remember how now or not. All of my computer training was DOS, Lotus, WordPerfect. Then we were moving to Alberta and all job postings were taking about MS Office so I took an eight week night school course that was once a week for two hours. It was Office 95 I was learning. Funnily enough it was my knowledge of DOS that helped me get this job.

Update on the guinea pigs: We've had them over 3 weeks and have put in an official "ask" to adopt them from their owner. It has to go through the other person who was taking care of them, but hopefully we'll hear back next week. So we might just be proud new "parents" again. LOL. I never did get the sewing done for their cage liner. My sewing machine tension is not working (no matter where I turn the wheel, the tension is the same - and it's very tight). I'm going to be trying to find some info online hopefully to fix it and maybe find out how to oil it, too.

I have heard quite a few ladies mention "Strong Women Stay Young", so I had ordered it from Thriftbooks and it came yesterday. Have read quite a bit of it and it's been helpful. I'm never sure when to increase weights or how many reps to do and whatnot, so it's already answered some of those questions. Thanks for the recommendation!

It's been a very painful week. Perimenopause has not been kind to me and my periods are crazy painful. I've always had a whole host of reproductive issues, so I'm kinda used to dealing with it.. but I'll be so glad when menopause finally comes. I am hoping my new gynecologist (just started seeing her this year) can make some recommendations, but I'm thinking I might end up going to seeing a naturopath and perhaps an acupuncturist. Thank god for legal cannabis. It's the only thing that will end the pain. But because I use balanced oil it just ends up putting me to sleep.. no high involved. But sleep is good. That's another thing in perimenopause - I can't stay asleep at night, and I'm either getting cold flashes or hot flashes all night, too. And, migraines are pretty bad and often, too; and now cause really insane hallucinations that can last up to an hour and mostly make me blind. Oh being a woman is grand!

But all of this will pass!

Goop project was a failure. The paint stripper did dissolve some of the paint, and some did stick to the waxed paper covering, but the deck boards' grain is so far raised that efficient scraping with any flat edged tools only hits the high points. NO $$ for new decks 'til the roof is paid off, if ever. Replacing boards would be too $$ and too much work. Plan C is to scrub heck out of it, peel as much of the loose paint off as possible, and apply two thin coats of primer containing paint. Turned out we picked the wrong color when we bought 4 gallons of paint last week for the house, too dark. Tested it yesterday on one of the deck uprights, if it looks ok today we may use it for deck and trim. So a lighter blue house with a deeper blue trim. Don't know... maybe.

Lisa, Lanette, Tracey et al, give me a keyboard and a DOS prompt, Windows 95/97 or Windows 7 pro at the max. Don't know what I'll do when my last Win7 machine dies and I have to upgrade. Grr.

Cloud storage, used DropBox when on church council. For personal stuff I'm of the thumbdrive school. Just got a safety deposit box, now to put most current thumb drive in it and start a weekly rotation.

Finally coming up with a strategy for this month, related to my word for 2019. Do something every day to make myself feel good. Dancing, walking, playing with Tumble, singing way loud in the car, playing in the dirt, prepping veggies and fruit for Joe, all these things make me feel good.
Snarfing candy orange slices like I did yesterday does NOT make me feel good, it makes me feel both SICK and BAD.

Still lurking and reading when I can.

Who'd have thought getting a new kitchen can be so stressful. I mentioned to my friend that I was unsure what worktop to get and she said that her hubby could get me a kitchen at trade price (he's a plumber) so I had another kitchen designer come and measure up - to be honest the shape and size of my kitchen means both designs were very similar but the difference was over £1,000 less in price, which also included a new fridge freezer/washing machine and condenser tumble dryer. No contest! But (there's always a but!) the first choice fitter is not able to do it now. I'm sure my friends hubby will find someone else as he knows lots of people in the business, but I'm finding it all a bit stressful. I never used to be like this, but I think it was because my husband was with me to help and usually take over these types of things. Now I am on my own I find making decisions difficult and get very anxious wondering if I'm doing the right thing.

Well I'd better get some washing done before it rains. I was hoping to cut the grass, but it is too wet. I really should sort out some of my cupboards. I'm trying my best to "cut the clutter" I've been watching videos on You Tube about less is more etc and different methods of decluttering, but don't seem to be able to put it into practice. Going to give it a go though, every little helps!

Viv UK - I so relate to your kitchen quandary. I decided to remodel my kitchen after my husband passed (he left me undone/half done/poorly done projects, but his heart was always in the right place). I stressed over the decisions but ended up with something I quite like. I kept the original footprint (only so much you can do with space, and I wasn't about knocking down walls). Went with gray cabinets, a quartz countertop. Friend helped me put in backsplash myself (always wanted to do that). I did shorten a half wall into kitchen and put a counter top on that so it is a mini bar. Making the decisions is tough, but I just pushed myself and went for it. Making decisions on our own can be tough after being married so many years. After four years, I can still feel helpless at times. But most of the time, I enjoy the freedom of only having to consider me.

Lisa and Sue What I want is to be like so many people in my life who manage their weight as a matter of course, without any fanfare or fretting or guilt or obsessions. Like my friend Clay. If he puts on 5 lbs, he drinks protein shakes for one meal a day and exercises a little more and in 2 weeks the 5 lbs is gone. No muss, no fuss. He weighs every morning as part of his daily routine, just like he brushes his teeth. He eats and drinks what he wants, but I noticed he hardly ever overindulges except occasionally with alcohol. He exercises daily because he always has. He is gorgeous and fit and doesn't spend hardly any of his emotional energy fretting and thinking about weight or food. It really only enters his consciousness when he sees that he's put on 5 lbs, at which time he makes it a priority and actively focuses on getting rid of the weight. I want to be like Clay. I always feel vaguely guilty or anxious about eating.

Karen - VA, that's EXACTLY what I was talking about. Just to not have it be at the front of my mind. On occasion, I grow weary of having every single solitary bite that passes my lips be a choice between virtue or vice. I had that for a few years after the gastric bypass... the only time in my adult life that I genuinely wasn't hungry, I think. Today I'm more resigned to my fate--I was born 400 years too late! Rubens would have loved me...

Anyway... my existential angst aside, the morning rains have already come and gone... I slept well, which always helps with my perspective, and I have to go do the shopping this morning. Corey put in a nearly sixty-hour, six-day week this week, and is sleeping the sleep of the justly exhausted, bless him.

Can't mow today, it rained ALL day yesterday, and everything's soaking, sopping wet... so he gets a lazy day, and I'd prefer to do the shopping on my own anyway. Somehow, we always spend quite a bit less when I go on my own!

Pivot tables are sooooo much easier in the current versions of Excel. They're on the insert tab now, easy to find, and pivot charts are just easy-breezy. One of my favorite manipulations is to run the pivot table on my main set of data and snag my comparisons out of the lists and drop them in and out until I get exactly what I want, then copy and paste the whole blinking thing as values into yet another sheet so I can manipulate values easily outside the pivot table linking.

You picked on another technique that I've used a lot in my life as well, which is to teach something in order to learn it best. When I teach someone, I often learn as much as they do.

Last time I used pivot tables was during my Business Admin course in the late 1990s. Just never needed them. So far I've been able to produce the data in other ways, but I might need to take a look at it again ... when I've got a moment.

Yeah ... I've used that technique since I was in grade school. Works well!

Good morning! Happy Saturday! I have been up since 4:45 waiting for Trentin, who has not shown and his mom has not answered any calls/texts. This is the perfect example of the kid is okay; it's the parents who are the issue. Grumpy this morning and tired of parenting parents. Grrrr!

Excel and other computer things-lol I TOTALLY understand this passion. I am married to a computer geek. Our budget, our medical files, everything important (paperwork-wise) is kept on Excel or some other type of program. Tim is constantly trying to teach me, but my brain has some sort of mental block when it comes to this stuff. I am positive my eyes roll back into my head as soon as he begins to ramble about how "efficient and valuable" a tool it is. How, when he is gone, it will "make my life so much easier". I just look at him, every time he says this, and say, "That's great, hun. YOu know, when/if you die before me, I am just going to transfer all of this info into my agenda that I keep on the counter, right?" (When I say that, his eyes roll in disgust) I have always had a mental block when it comes to numbers/math; I guess computers/computer terminology use the same part of the brain as math. A math teacher friend, told me I need to think of math as another language (I am a language person). IF math/computer stuff is another language, it is a language from a country that I just have no interest in visiting. Blah. I am quite happy with my pen, paper, and little calculators.
Beth- Perfect words for Allie! Although I like to think her friend meant well; sometimes friends are not very compassionate and understanding.

Heather- First off, glad you are okay, after your episode while out walking/shopping! Scary! Did you get enough protein/sugar? Glad this doesn't happen often. I have to get after Tim, because he tends to graze and not track what he is taking in nutritionally. He gets this way a couple of times a week. Scary. Secondly; YOUR GRANDKIDS! lol What a crazy couple of days they have had! Perhaps I feel sorrier for their parents/grandparents! A hospital visit, the flu, and glass in the tub! This would be about the time I would give up on the vacation! lol
Janet- Wow! Truly transforming photos! Although I see your beauty in your before pic; you are absolutely glowing in the second pic!
Amber- Wowsa! Your JR is a busy guy! I don't know how you do it! I have kids that age with me M-F all day, but am so happy to send them on their way at 5/5:30. Busy, busy, busy...all.of.the.time. Sending strengthening vibes your way!
Machka- I really love that you and hubs can still bike with the Zwift app when the weather is not cooperating!
Ginny and Viv- I love to hear about the remodels! Last year I painted my kitchen ( most I can do until I am more flush, financially) and I love the colors; but I LOVE to see and hear about whole remodels (appliances, floors, backsplash, cabinetry) etc. Please feel free to post pics of before and after!

Rita- I think when the temps are as hot as you are dealing with, and air conditioning, water, gym access are not available, that is a good excuse to lay low for a while! If you think about it, when it is THAT hot, you probably aren't eating as much as normal, either. You still burn calories just doing what needs to be done.
Rori- Hope all is going well for you! Is your brother visiting?
Suebdew- I will be in Texas for about four/five days when the baby arrives (in October). I am not planning to get in any visiting/sight seeing time on that trip. BUT...if Lauren and baby are doing okay, I might be able to schedule a meet up on short notice.

Michele ~ We have lived in our house for over 20 yrs and we do not know any of our neighbors except the one right next to us who is our age and who we only talk to if something arises. The folks around us are all busy with their own lives and are not interested in knowing their neighbors.
