So winter isn't the best time to try and find a 15k event that doesn't involve cross country. The nearest I have is a half marathon with an 8k loop so I could do two loops and walk the rest. The only issue is that it is only 3 weeks after my first 10k in 20+ years and I think that might be asking too much. I could just plan my own route locally and jog it in December.
Looking at the half my local events are Brighton on 23rd Feb or Hastings in April. I really don't want to do Hastings as I checked out the route and the hill it goes up used to make my car struggle so not keen on that one. Other than that it would be Sep/Oct time.
Any thoughts on the above?1 -

An uneventful 5 miles this morning. Temp was around 40F so I wore capris, long-sleeve tech shirt and a light pair of gloves and was comfortable.

A near-by town is having a 15 mile Susan Komen benefit walk on Saturday. I’ve kept it on my radar and thought that I might do it. The longest that I’ve ran in the past couple of months is 12 miles but since it is technically a walk I figured I could run what I could and walk the rest. I went to register yesterday only to find out that each participant had to raise a minimum of $500 to participate! The registration fee doesn’t even apply towards the $500 minimum. Now I love supporting a good cause just as much as the next person but “raising” $500 in three days just isn’t something I can do. It is certainly not in my race budget for this week!

If your goal is a half, I would be looking at the Brighton one. Depending on how hard you can train, there should be enough time for you to get read, but winter weather can be tough to train in.
Is there anything else, say a little farther drive to consider? I would advise against waiting a full year to hit your goal if you can help it. Goals work better on shorter timelines (but reasonable) normally. A second half, or a 30k next fall might be a good target after you knock down your first half.4 -

Besides, nice as it might be to run along Marine Parade avoiding Chris Eubank, personally speaking I'd get bored and want to go for a swim instead.
Or...why not both? There's enough time to consolidate what you've learnt from February.....7 -

Ok, I'm giving up on keeping up with the topic this month! Around 300 posts behind. I'll do better next month - but for the last week or so of this month I'll pop in to note down my runs (currently very short runs- not been out for anything above a 5k since the half. Aiming to change that this weekend.)

@HonuNui I like the idea of sharing notes... I record lecture, take notes, rewrite the notes and study them. Some classes have required YouTube videos as an added explanation, medsimplified, osmosis which have been a lifesaver.
It's so competitive. I shared my exam study notes and lecture recordings yesterday with a student. IDK if she's nursing, pre professional, or what. I grumbled because another student was selfish with exam review material at the exam review, and find myself a tad "you're not prepared, not my prob". But, I feel Saint (mother) Theresa is parenting me to not judge and just help those that I can. I set up a group chat site for the class, hoping to connect and help us all improve and learn. Eric reminded me, that there is not a limit on A's, everyone can have one. So, I love that your class shared and lifted each other up. I miss Hawaii. I could find a job there in 3-4 years. 🤗

Beautiful running weather as expected, although with a very high wind. We kept thinking we were running faster than we were, because the wind in our faces made us feel like we were going 25 mph!
I sort of got lost a couple of weeks ago even using GPS while trying to get out of the cornfields of south-central Minnesota and back to the Twin Cities - I was going in the right direction, but got sent down some random unpaved roads that ended up adding 20-25 minutes to our trip. And all that because I turned the wrong way out of the only gas station in the wee tiny town we'd been visiting. Whoops.
LOL. I entered an address in my GPS last weekend and it came up with 2 matches to choose from. They were exactly the same address with the same number, street, city, state, and zip. So I just picked the first. When I arrived, it was wrong. But at least it was only a few blocks from the 2nd option.3 -

Also congrats to those who raced this past weekend; I apologize I don't remember who but I liked posts as I read them on my phone this morning to catch up. There were some great runs, including PR's and AG placements - way to go, all of you! When I reply to multiple people, I have to do it on my computer; I usually use notepad to compose my post then copy and paste it into the thread when I'm done. Replying on my phone typically results in frustration, so I don't do that much anymore.
Anyway, I've been taking it easy the last week or so, giving my lower back time to relax. It felt great at the end of the day yesterday, when it's usually quite tight. Of course, this morning it was a little tight again. I must be sleeping wrong or something. The run this morning was great, even a little bit fast (for me). Kira stopped once; she insisted on sniffing a particular spot in the grass. Then she slowed down at the end, as she's been doing for a while now. I actually sat down on the curb and checked to make sure there wasn't something physically wrong with her, and she took the opportunity to slobber all over me. Just what I needed in the freezing temps! LOL We were able to get going again after a minute or two, and she kept up decently well. It wasn't until we were home and I reviewed our pace that I realized how fast we had been going. What's amusing to me though is that the last quarter mile or so, she was slowing down again, but I was able to convince her to run even faster and we were able to finish strong. Gotta keep her guessing!9 -
Thanks for the tips @PastorVincent and @girlinahat which led me to a more thorough look and sure enough Eastbourne 1st March - not as hilly as Hastings, not as busy as Brighton. There is also Seaford in August.
My ultimate plan is a full marathon as I have promised I would run a marathon with my daughter for charity which I was thinking would be Spring 2021. This could be brought forward depending on how March goes.
Still not sure on 15k in 3 weeks or wait and build up to it in December on a solo run.1 -

I had another absolutely beautiful run this morning. I ran 6.76 miles. The weather was so nice. It was a little windier than I like, but other than that it was almost perfect. It was clear and 58°F and just really nice running weather. I wore shorts and a t-shirt and started out with sleeves and gloves because of the wind. I did take off the sleeves about 1.5 miles into the run and the gloves came off at about 4 miles but I put them back on at about 6 miles because the wind picked up and it was easier to wear them than to carry them and the sleeves were taking up all the available space in my flipbelt. It was such a beautiful morning. The sky was clear and there were tons of stars. I even saw a shooting star. I had just turned the corner when I saw it. One minute sooner or later and I would have missed it. It really made my day. It was kind of like yesterday's run. I just wanted to keep running forever, but I had to go in and get ready for work. I really wanted to get the extra .25 mile, but as it was I probably should have stopped at 6 or 6.25. But it was so nice and I was just not ready to go in yet. Tomorrow's run is looking kind of iffy. The forecast has rain and thundershowers in the morning and lasting throughout Thursday and Friday. I am going to just play it by ear. If it is not raining or a light rain I might run, but if there is lightening I won't. I am close enough to my monthly goal that missing one run is not going to be a problem. I'll just have to try not to be too crabby about it if I don't get to run.

Hard to say since I do not really know your condition well. Can you stall that decision till you see how you are doing after the 10k? I suspect you can do it, but I think you will know more after running that 10k.3 -
In a funk today. Too much junk yesterday got me down. Still went out and did a 3k run and a weight lifting session. Tomorrow I plan on a long run - though I'm reconsidering it. With my new job I keep getting free time on my own, and end up faffing around and spending like 3hrs on exercise - long run then a bit of faffing and doing a weight session for 40 mins. And then I only have like 2hrs free to do other things. I mean that's great but I always feel like im sitting to do my relaxing stuff but not feeling like I can enjoy it.
First World problems? Part of it is cause we are striking so 8m getting a lot of weekdays off work thats "free time" and some of it cause I get RDOs on the week for working the weekend, and when I start at 3pm that feels like a lot of free time.

Had a rubbish day at work, so went out reluctantly, late and slowly.
I did not want to go my usual route so went down a fairly poorly lit road where upon getting distracted by a car faffing in front of me I managed to go over an uneven bit of pavement. Fortunately as I mentioned above I was going very slowly. Grazed knee, wounded pride and a ruined run was the only result.
Log: 5km, note: I'm free, free falling.....
Goal for October:
1. 15runs.......10
2. 80km.........56km
3. 8km long...Done 12 Oct
4. PB 5km......Done 5 Oct

I skipped my run last night in a political move. It's probably better anyway for going into 50K Saturday. I initially thought I'd run this as a fun run, but now I'm wondering if maybe I can get a PR. I was in better shape for my current PR, but that was also my first 50K so maybe with the increase in experience and speed since then, I could still do it. I need to average 12:30 miles and not having run this course before, I don't know that it's possible, but still, I think I'll try it.
The course is five 10K loops. If I can keep it under 11:30 average for the first 3 loops, I'll go for it, otherwise I'll back off and save something for my 8HR race next weekend.14 -

@Teresa502 - I guess that participation cost is one way to keep the number of participants down. Not everyone can or wants to deal with trying to fund raise that kind of money and I know some of the Women walks/races have had unmanageable crowds.
@zeesparrow - glad your back is feeling a little better! How old is Kira now?
@kgirlhart - dontcha just love those runs where it feels so wonderful you could just go on and on! When I wear sleeves and used to wear a belt I would tie the sleeves on the belt rather than stuff them inside. You might could do that and then have room for your gloves or something else...
Finally a long run for me! Had terrible stomach issues before I headed out (late and already hot as a result) then I just didn't feel quite right and kept stopping each time I passed the bathrooms just in case... really didn't feel great until the middle of the run and then again after my last bathroom stop.
I stopped a couple of times to watch an osprey soaring and diving into the basin after fish. Tried to get a picture but it was pretty far away. This was the best I could do. They are really so magnificent to watch! Date........Miles.......Total

Lots of posts to catch up on! I had my third run of the week yesterday and it did not go well. It wasn’t the worst, but I was very distracted by change in routine. My daughter wanted to pace me on the bicycle, which was incredibly sweet, but I was so worried about her getting hit by a car, that I couldn’t think about me running. Add to that a change in terrain caused by my own lack of planning and trying to work on breathing techniques .... at one point, I really needed to keep running but I just stopped. I think all the anxiety was causing me to run at a pace that was too hard and fast maybe .... after walking a tiny bit, I picked up the pace and ran again and just tried to have fun with it, since any focused work was out the window. All in all, not too bad!9

Started feeling sick Tuesday afternoon, and this morning I didn't feel much better, so skipped the morning run. As the day went on I started feeling better. Probably caught some 24 hour bug on the plane.
Went out after work for an 'Easy' 8 miler. It was 81F, 24mph wind. My HR jumped to 180 very quickly, and hovered there the whole time. I was sure it was cadence lock, do about halfway I stopped and walked for a minute to bring it down. It went down to 150, so started back up again. It jumped back to 190. No way that was right, so I just ignored it at finished. Even though I was just getting over a bug, and it was hot and windy, don't think that warranted an average HR of 185!

@Scott6255 , Glad you are feeling better. My HR always jumps up to what seems to be too fast, but I recover quickly, so I don't ever worry about it.

I am so helplessly behind on the thread this month, I don't think I'll be able to catch up. I'll try to scan over most of the posts when I have time - which won't be before Sat, I know. It's been crazy. I did go to Bridge Day this past Saturday. Had a great time watching people do something I would never do - BASE jump off of the bridge. I'll try to post some pictures later. Good luck to everyone who have races this weekend - in case I don't get back on here before then.4 -

I had a decent run yesterday at a slow pace, just couldn't get my HR and speed up and keep it up. Same thing today, and I'm not sure why. So in both cases, I just decided to try MAF.
