I had bought some Halloween candy, but caller numbers have been dropping off over the last few years and we had none this year. Halloween Dance Party was fun, though. Yesterday was very wet, but I had Latin Study Group in the morning and Parchment Craft after lunch. This morning it's fine again, so hope to get the rest of my planters done for the winter.

I am still getting used to your time zone! It's a little before 6 am here. I should probably bookmark a world time zone map which would make it easier for me to visualize where everyone is in their day.

Barbie I too hate losing my "credit" for walking when my app doesn't sync up. Of course, you're still doing the exercise and ultimately that is what counts. My back up for accountability is my penny jar, a penny gets dropped into the jar each time I work out. Yesterday I added hand weights to the treadmill and it felt pretty good!
Beth that halloween event in the gym sounds like a great success, do you think they will make it annual or just weather dependent? My favorite student costume this year was a chatty little student of mine who dressed as a mime, boy did we have fun trying to make her talk while she was trying so hard to stay in mime character, too cute!
DH is recovering well from the knee scope surgery and we intend to start tackling some back yard projects today (including the gutters, oooh, how I hate the gutter clean out ) Meal prep, laundry and a catchup with my bff are on the list of to dos this weekend as well.

Slowly starting my Saturday. Got a chair ordered from Amazon (just a little swivel accent chair). I sold my lift chair to SIL because it takes up way too much room in my living room. Have to get the bonded (fake) leather due to cats-didn't want to spend lots of money. No real furniture stores in my town that have anything other than the expensive stuff. So I will take a chance. Also ordered a deep red chair (couch is dark brown). May not sound daring to any of you, but it is definitely pushing my comfort zone. Bottom line was--I wanted a red chair so I go it.
Going to area meeting for church stuff a couple of hours this afternoon. Want to get house picked up before I go. Need to get in first set of PT stretches. They still aren't sure what is going on with my left leg. I am beginning to wonder if it may have anything to do with cerclage wire used for that hip/femur (right had none). I have read that sometimes the wire needs removed. Will give pt a couple of weeks then maybe have doc order X-ray to check that out. Then I would go back to ortho. I hope I am wrong, but I know something isn't right. So, will keep investigating.
Not ready for the cold. When I was little I always wanted snow for my birthday (which is Tuesday). I no longer ask for that!

Raging storm here! I remembered what they say in Norway - there is no bad weather, only bad clothing - so I put on waterproof trousers, my new anorak, and pulled the cords round my face tight and went out in it. I don't remember having weather this bad since we moved here. 70 mph gusts and driving rain.
Bought the newspaper and milk and some fish and asparagus for early dinner before the babysitting. Also some raspberries to take with us to have once the kids are all tucked up and asleep.
England lost the World Cup, but I am happy for South Africa.
Going to do some rowing this afternoon while watching a programme about obesity.

Cari-Congratulations on that weight loss. Getting ready for my granddaughter's last soccer game. It frosted here last night but it looked like snow when I first opened the blinds. Did my Sat. weigh in and I am DOWN .8 lbs for a total of 8 lbs. I originally had been down 40 but gained 30 back. I've been trying to lose for a year now. Hopefully, the momentum sticks this time.

Updates (Nothing earthshattering)
Bailey is sound asleep after a somewhat fussy/restless night. He has actually regained a bit of strength in one rear leg but not the other. He is on prednisone for a ruptured lumbar disc. I'm able to provide him some mobility by looping a belt under his belly near his groin. He walks along while I support his weak rear end. The belt saves my back. He tried to lift his leg this morning. Not very successfully, but even a little movement is a good sign.
Olivia & Phoenix are settled in their new temporary home near San Diego. Grand-mère accompanied them back from France, which helped with the transition.
LillyBell After 4 hours in L&D last night, our son & daughter-in-law were sent home with a sedative(!) so Mommy could sleep - her cervix wasn't favorable & contractions were apparently more of the "pre-labor" variety. I'm predicting that it will be Monday (induced) as planned, but who knows? Our daughter-in-law is so cranky. Lilliana's out-of-state paternal grandparents are here until Monday. Maybe they'll stay a little longer.
Grandson The 13-year-old grandson for whom I am Learning Coach is in a new Applied Behavioral program with group & home sessions 4 days a week (12 hours per week). It's seriously cutting into our school time. I lost my cool with him Thursday for not applying himself even though I could see he had brain fog. Felt ashamed. Got over it. Remembered priorities. His mom & I made a new more flexible plan to decrease pressure. I'm not trained as a teacher or an autism expert, so it's OTJ training. He's really smart, just not interested in schoolwork. He likes cars & cats.

Today is my "relaxing" day. What that means is that I didn't look at the clock when I woke up and just lay there enjoying the warmth of my bed and snuggling with Bernie the cat. When I finally got up it was 5:30 which would be too late if I were meeting my walking friend, but she cancelled because of early plans. I have no place to go or anyone to meet after dog walking so I can walk for two hours or more after breakfast. I can just let the rest of the day flow and do whatever I want and I'll enjoy every minute of it even if it's the same stuff I do every other day. Jake is making some new bean recipe in the slow cooker and is excited about it.
Barbara, my new hair style is that I am letting it grow, so on dance days I can wear it in a pony tail to keep it off my neck and keep me cooler.
Heather, Bravo to you for dressing right and going out in the storm.
Today is the darkest it will be in the morning until December. Sunrise here is at 7:59 AM. The strongest opponents to year round daylight savings time are teachers who worry about kids walking to school in the dark. I like walking in the dark so it's not a problem for me. My quarrel is with the abrupt time change twice a year.

Hello one and all.
I finally had my first outdoor yoga class. It is a beautiful day here. I meet a wonderful woman from Belgium prior to the practice starting. She is here visiting her god daughter and loves practicing yoga. She told me her age, 78, and I was simply amazed by her.
Pictures are from the park where the yoga classes are held (free by the City on Saturday mornings). The first is the basic view of the area, the second shows some art in the park, and the third was my view laying on my mat. I practiced in the grass - can you believe most practiced on the sidewalk!
I just wrapped up breakfast which was a half of a whole wheat pita, small avocado and everything bagel seasoning. Avocados are becoming my favorite food as of late.
It's time for meal planning and prep and household chores with possibly a nap thrown in. Smokey the cat wants me to start nap time now - he may have the right idea since I have been up since 4 am.

Karen I would use his interest in cars and cats as cornerstones to his learning. Cars for the math, reading, engineering. The cats for social skills. Taking care of something other than yourself. Art use either as a starting point design computer graphics. I had a fellow teacher once say to me find the interest and use that as the gasoline to get the engine going!
He will think and react not in ways you expect him too. I still think the film about Temple Grandin is a wonderful film to watch for anyone who is working with someone with autism. I also just recently watched the interview of her on line that was wonderful. Someone here recommended it and there was a link. Sorry I to not remember who made that post. Thank you again. I thought so highly of it that I wish when teachers have to come back and sit through one more workshop on teaching a math strategy that this was so much better because she is inspiring. I will take inspiration any day. I can always go back and learn another technique. Inspiration is rarer.
Often it is very difficult for children with this to make transitions well and to connect socially. Often their nervous system are very sensitive so touch and loud noises are difficult for them. It always amazes me that that does not stop they from screaming themselves. As a teacher been there done that with them more than I wished to.
Ask yourself what lead up to you getting so frustrated. Easy to have happen when working with children with this condition. When you find the things are starting to escalate that is the time to change the channel.

Did Melt It Off DVD. I really thought it would be more cardio, but that’s OK (so many DVD’s that I forget). The plan for tomorrow is to do a Leslie Sansone Walk away the Pounds DVD. This is a new one for me so I want to try it out.
Made chocolate bran muffins for me, then cod for us to have later in the week, now making a chocolate cake to take to the Newcomer’s meeting for my girlfriend next weekend.

Cari – awesome weight loss. Do you have a secret to that loss? Just watching what you eat? Another advantage I’ve found with crafting is that it keeps your hands busy and out of food. Also, the time goes by much more quickly
Get this for Newcomers: they’re looking for a new President, VP, secretary (they were this last year) and Treasurer. They even asked Vince if he’d return as Treasurer!!!! He just told them “not now, but maybe in the future”. Is that funny or what? I told one gal on the Nominating Committee that what I’d do is send out a memo to the membership saying that we need a full slate of officers and directors. If we don’t by a certain date, we will be forced to start dissolution proceedings. They’re looking for people for some of the activities. I’d say tell people that if no one steps forward to chair these committees, they will be eliminated. Then follow thru. But I know they won’t do it. They’ll beg someone to do the jobs, then when the person realizes what’s involved, they’ll quite after a year. Just like happened this year. To me, people should do things because they want to do them, not because you asked and out of niceness they agreed. Vince was treasurer for 8 years, he wanted to do it, this guy who they begged to do it has been treasurer for one year. They got someone to do membership and when I told her what was involved in the job, she had no idea. She thought all she had to do was introduce the new members. Someone else is doing the other things (or not doing them as the case may be)

SuziQ – I try to say to people “is there anything I can get for you sir” or “here you go sir”. Just gives people a sense of dignity. It may not work for some people, but I do get a lot of “thank you”s. I just say “you’re very welcome” Do others do this? I don’t know. But I’ll just continue to do it. What do you do with the food you pick? Donate it? What a beautiful park! Avocados are on sale at Aldi so I’ll get some on my way back from exercise Monday. Can’t wait. Then have to leave them out to ripen.
They have a hazardous waste collection today. We’ll probably go later in the day when the cake comes out of the oven. Then it needs to cool for 1-1/2 hours (more is OK), so we can go then. Vince is selling some of his trains and needs boxes. Mayabe on the way back we’ll stop at U-Haul and get them Update: didn't go to hazardous waste. We'll wait until it's closer to us. We stopped at an auto place to give them the used oil we had then went and picked up the boxes Vince needs.
Supposed to be Eucharistic Minister at the church tonight. Vince said he wants to cut the cover for the pool today, so we shall see if he does do it or not. That’s one of the things that I can’t do by myself Update: he's not going to cut it. I suggested we at least cut it in half to get ready to do it tomorrow.

Marianne WV—Yay for the 8 lb. Loss! Take those victories every chance you can. About ten years ago I lost 65 lbs....worked my butt off to do it. It came back and brought friends. This time is different. I'm a skinny person stuck in a fat person's body and habits. I'm never going to be able to relax my vigilance and eat whatever and how much I want, and that's okay. My goal is to have so much in my life, that food takes a back seat. Keep up the great work!
Ginny in Ohio—I grew up in Ohio, and as a kid snow was awesome! As an adult, ugh! Life doesn't stop for snow in Ohio, which means you have to deal with it as best you can. I remember digging out, and driving an aging LTD to work on bad tires. Sorta ruins the magic of snow. Hope you enjoy that chair. Red is my favorite color, so I have a lot of it around the house. Good luck with the hip.

Beth—We do trunk or treating at our church, and I wish we could just do it inside. Texas weather isn't usually an issue, but the WIND is! Every decoration I can add to my trunk, has to be tied securely or it will join Scarlett O. One year I made a circus tent out of an umbrella, and it didn't do well at all. We had hundreds of kids this year, and I had a little fishing game for them to fish for treats. It never let up enough for me to really get a look at the kids.
It's cold and sunny today. My roses are blooming outside my window, the last hurrah before winter. I bought dozens of tiny succulents last night at Kroger, for fifty cents each. I asked for a container they use to sell whole chickens, and made a terrarium out of it for half of them. I need another container, since I want to give half of these cuties to a friend who loves them. My house is looking like a tropical forest, with so many indoor plants, plus those I brought in from the cold. I need to find a sunny spot for an orange tree that's loaded with tiny little, almost ripe oranges. With the in-laws here, I don't have my front window available—since that's their room now.

Isn't Temple Grandin an amazing inspiration? (it turns out I'm the one who posted that - a close friend had the good fortune to see Grandin speak at the Richmond Forum in April & she sent me the link). I think I'll watch it again.

Just finished reading Keep Pain in the Past by Chris Cortman
Some of the examples he uses are heart breaking. The up side was reading about those working through the steps of grieving the trauma so the trauma no longer holds power over their lives.
He does suggest writing about what you learned after each chapter. I did not do this on the the first read through.
He did have some clients that when they told of him of their traumas they were not able to come back to see treatment through with him. I can understand how that can happen. Stating the trauma was all they could handle at the time.
The note that really rang true for me was what he called Mr. Avoidance. The way I interpreted this was the habits I have that numb me so I don't deal with the pain that is causing the problem.
I also liked the analogy he used how the root of the problem can be like a splinter in your big toe and it will cause you pain until the splinter comes out. Once it is out healing begins.
I think a better title for the book is Healing the Pain in Your Past. The title might already be out there so he choose this one instead. Because it really wasn't about keeping the pain rather working through the pain and letting it go.
I know the book had an effect on me. I do feel lighter in spirit after reading this book. Beauty in the Broken Places also helped me spiritually.
I think both books touched that place that people do make through horrendous events in their lives and find a way to not let those events have destructive power over them any longer. There is no right or wrong way to achieve this. Sometimes people me included just find they are in a place they are relieved they survived.
I have a saying in my meditation spot. Grow through what you go through. Seems fitting.

Hi Michele.
I think your volunteer spirit is wonderful. The non-profit coordinating the gleaning brings the vegetables to soup kitchens and food banks throughout Palm Beach County. It's a big organization. Over the years they have bought trucks, forklifts, crates, etc. to bring the produce in from the fields and to deliver it. If a group of volunteers from a specific organization gathers to pick for its food bank the non-profit will directly deliver it there. My boss is a member of the Junior League and I gleaned with her group one weekend. All of those vegetables went to the Junior League's food band for distribution. It's a really cool and inventive way to feed the food challenged. The farms closest to me grow mostly peppers and tomatoes. There are a few farms further north in Palm Beach where cabbage, cauliflower and corn are grown and the farmers allow those fields to be gleaned too.4 -
Hi, Newbie here. I just upgraded to premium, maybe in hopes of cementing a new found commitment. This group popped up and I thought perfect! I'm over 50 and need to know there are others over 50 successfully fighting this battle. My doc told me I have 3 months to bring my A1C down or I have to go on insulin. So my goals for this month are:
1: log in every day, log all food intake
2: drink at least 64 oz water
3: work on meal planning
4: Be kind to myself

afternoon ladies~ with nothing particular to do, im a procrastinator to the hilt, but finally got my clothes put away and am trying to pick up my bedroom, which is where I mostly hang out ..
my new bed is coming Tuesday so I will be trying to put that together on Weds..
I also might buy some of that blow dry covering for the windows I have a double set in the bedroom and since im on the bottom floor ,and I have cement under me. it gets frigid here in the winter.. 3rd floor has no problem lol.
Alfie is sure happy to have me home thats for sure, I took a nap and he has been chilling on the bed all day..

We are at my son's house. They were delighted to see us! They showed us some videos people had taken of the giant waves on the seafront today. Wow! Wish I could post them on here. Lots of idiots standing far too close to the sea. The promenade will be buried under pebbles tomorrow.
I have never seen such weather! A huge tree came down in Hove Recreation Ground. But the wind died down tonight and we could see the fireworks there from the house windows. The kids were worried about the Guinea pigs.
DH is still with the older ones, telling them stories. Bea eventually went to sleep, but was overexcited to see us.
I've brought our dessert of raspberries with us. Plus a bit of blue cheese. I did 400 bonus calories this afternoon on the rower and bike, so I'm well inside calories. 1,000 altogether for the day.
Going to watch our French police series later, SPIRAL.

Have read and caught up, I am able to read on Saturdays a bit more than during the week. I came out of October a bit lighter and an inch smaller. I am hoping to keep it up for November.
Didn't take notes as I just don't have the time to respond to everyone like i used to, but know that I'm thinking of you all.
Machka - I have had that sleep paralysis thing a few times in my life and I can tell you the dreams I had at the time I had them. One of them was when I was probably 6 years old.
It was a beautiful day here in Alberta today and I saw several flocks of Canadian geese heading South. They know we are supposed to dip in the negatives this week I guess.

Part of what I did today was to spend time on my exercise bike while watching the latest episode of "The Great Canadian Baking Show" and "Battle of the Blades". We are so fortunate to get CBC as a station from our cable provider. Thanks to DVR recordings, I was able to watch both those evening shows in the afternoon and pause them when the dogs wanted to go for a walk.
I sent the photo of the line dance class in Halloween costumes to my class email list so I've gotten lots of nice replies including several from class members who are out of state and weren't able to be in class with us.
