What a lovely family photo! Hope you had a restful sleep.1 -
Lanette,
I have found through trial and tribulation my body works best with a good mix of carbs and vegetables versus high protein. When my body craves meat I provide it, but much rather have a baked potato with a salad. It sounds like an interesting subject and I think I do will research online.
I tossed all of my WW journals about a year and now regret it. I have been saving the food dairies by month from MFP and think it's a great idea to keep them so I can look back. They are a great reminder when we hit plateaus and/or are slipping.2 -
coastalgosgal wrote: »Recd my pictures back from the gal that lives in my childhood home. I was a little nervous I wouldn't get them back, but I had to trust the situation that I would.👍. She's built a nice pole barn to house her boat and vintage motor home. She sent me a nice letter, and its warms my heart about the whole situation.💖
Its crazy that I am such friends with her being so far away, but my sister that lives right next door to her hasn't done anything, or seen the inside of the home. Different personalities, and circumstances I suppose. I am happy I can pretty much become friends with most every one!
My sister in Montana always telling me to just up about telling everyone that I was from Whidbey island, and yaking about my life story. But my conversation with the library ladies resulted in a couple of my sisters artwork being sold. Being friendly does pay off!

You have a gift for friendliness.🌹🌹
Awe, sweet Katla, I treasure you and all you ladies in this group! Remember how frantic I was dealing with my sick husband, driving into Portland on my own, when the ambulance from the coastal Providence hospital had to take husband to OHSU? Seems a world away, but you all got me thru it.💖

(((Allie))): The frozen bag of peas that Machka mentioned is a great idea for reducing swelling and bruising. I sorry you’re still sore. :flowerforyou:
Barbara: Powell’s is fabulous and we haven’t been inside it for several years. They do ship books to customers who order on line. I’ve bought a few used paperbacks from them and had them shipped without going inside in person. The service is excellent. I like being there in person but am not very enthused about driving in Portland traffic. :noway:
Lanette: It is interesting how each of us have different dietary needs in order to be healthy. Yesterday I was close to equal percentages for my macros. It was 37% carbs, 33% protein and 30% fat. Day before yesterday was a little different. In fact, every day varies but I try for a fairly even balance. Some days are a bit higher in fat, other are a bit higher in carbs or protein.
On another topic: You are generous to keep a supply of food in your car for those in need. We haven’t been brave enough to respond to an individual person at our car side, but we do make regular contributions to our local food bank. Since Oregon has a bottle bill, each beverage can or bottle has 5 cents refund value. The food bank in our town redeems those cans & bottles for cash to provide extra food for the hungry. Oregon was the first state to pass a bottle bill, but there are others as well, and I believe Washington, California, and British Columbia, Canada are among them. The list on the top of my water can also includes CT, ME, MA, NY, HI, & IA.
Heather: You were so smart to move closer to your grandchildren! I love hearing about all the good things that you are able to do with them.
(((Janetr))) Sending good thoughts for your daughter’s safety and well-being.
Michelle: Sending good thoughts for Denise. :flowerforyou:
Pip: Love the photo of you and Kirby at the parade. You look wonderful. Was it in Bellevue? We went to dinner and the parade there with our son & daughter in law when they were still living in WA. The parade was fabulous.
Dvmmcw8020: Welcome to a great group.
Rebecca: I am so glad that things are going well for you and your guys these days. You were a rock for them during health challenges. You are one remarkably brave woman. The word steadfast comes to mind. :flowerforyou:
I had a lovely riding lesson today and look forward to the next. It will probably a couple of weeks from now, considering the seasonal activities and social events.

I forced myself to vacuum today and the vacuum quit working halfway through the house after refusing to pick up many things from the floor and carpet. We took it out to the garage and went out and bought a new one. The new one is fabulous--easier to handle and picks up everything.

Went to co-op member appreciation last night. They had a prize wheel to spin and I won a $100 gift card. That was cool and can certainly be used.
Pip - Hope you and Kirby had a good run. Thanks for supporting the Arthritis Foundation.

the weather was perfect for the run today. was about 47 degrees, no rain. we ran a lot faster than I thought we would. under an 8 min mi for both of us is awesome. katla the run starts at the Westlake center in Seattle. I drank some the night before and thankfully I threw up after I got to the hotel. we didn't have dinner and I was ok for that. not the best thing to do a day before a run, lololol, I was totally prepared to have a slow run, but 7.27min mile? I shocked myself! I wasn't feeling to perky the day of the run, (today).
someone mentioned the Fremont bridge? I used to work over looking lake union and we met at a bar called the Fremont dock. we go there for breakfast after the run and had to go over the Fremont bridge. Seattle is changing soooooo much.
all week tomorrow I am wanting to work early so no gym workout. more $$ for the kitty. when yogi was sick (he's back to normal now) the bill was $620 some odd bucks. kids aren't cheap.
time for bed and kicking back. oh yeah, gotta eat something3 -
Had a Beyond Burger tonight. I like it better than the Impossible Burger
Right now I’m hurting for Denise because she’s hurting. But I just can’t bring myself to say “Don’t come since you’re so anxious”. I just can’t help thinking that that would be the start of something worse for her. I really think she should see a MD about this anxiety. What if Pete were to get transferred? I don’t think he’d want to leave his mother, he’s too much of a “mama’s boy”. But still….
Sue in WA – what a wonderful windfall!

Christmas Fruit ...
Since we can't get Christmas oranges at this time of year (mandarins) and since I'm not overly fond of Christmas cherries (plus they're expensive) ...
I bought a couple pears and a couple mangoes! I love both (especially mangoes) but don't eat them very often because they're higher in calories than most other fruit.
So ... they've become a Christmas treat.

Day 25 - December 9
I am most grateful for the fond and tearful memories a song brought to me when I was driving and running errands yesterday.
I am a music lover and have an appreciation for the soulful sound of a cello to the rip of an electric guitar. Our house was always filled with music. One big disappointment was when the Rolling Stones moved to the "oldies" station - it set a mark in time for me.
I was at a red light and radio channel surfing trying to find a station without a commercial. I came across a song by Maroon 5 called, Memories. Songwriters: Adam Levine / Jacob Hindlin / Jonathan Bellion / Jordan Johnson / Michael Pollack / Stefan Johnson / Vincent Ford
I put the partial lyrics in a spoiler because some may not want to read and/or listen to the song since it is a little emotional. Here's to the ones that we got (oh oh)
Cheers to the wish you were here, but you're not
'Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
Of everything we've been through (no, no)
Toast to the ones here today (aye)
Toast to the ones that we lost on the way
'Cause the drinks bring back all the memories (aye)
And the memories bring back, memories bring back you
There's a time that I remember, when I did not know no pain
When I believed in forever, and everything would stay the same
Now my heart feel like December when somebody say your name
'Cause I can't reach out to call you, but I know I will one day, yeah

I am still trying to find my holiday balance. I know this will pass. I do not want to become my mother. Every big holiday, especially during this time of year, it was about all of the bad things that happened in her life and how things could have been different (those of you who don't know she was bi-polar/manic).
So I am choosing the fond memories, but geez they can still bring a tear to my eye.
The get ready for work bell is ringing. This is our busiest month of the year so work will definitely keep me distracted. This Friday a group of us have volunteered to build bikes for Kids in Distress. I am looking forward to working with my co-workers and bringing some joy to children in need.
Hugs to all and prayers to those in need.

SuziQ I don't remember who it was on this thread who suggested making new (to you) traditions to help banish the old recordings you don't want to embrace at holiday time, but I thought it was a brilliant suggestion. If I turned into my mother at Christmastime, I would have a lovely house smelling of evergreens, a fresh tree decorated, lots of yummy baking/candies underway, mysterious presents appearing sans tags under the tree, Handel's Messiah & other music playing, a warm welcoming house, lights outside, stockings hung, plans being made with older family members, church. caroling, etc. It was so wonderful…but a really hard act to follow!
Lanette & Barbara (more boring Medicare talk)I finally figured out what the confusing Medicare info on the Boomer Benefits website was about. It turns out that if you sign up for both Part A & Part B during the Initial Enrollment Period around your 65th birthday, and your employee health is secondary to Medicare, the insurance companies are required to offer only Medigap plans A, B, C, F, K, or L (not G or N) without underwriting under Medicare's guaranteed issue rights. And, once your secondary insurance ends, you have only 63 days to apply for the guaranteed issue Medigap plans. Fortunately, this is not my situation. My employee health is still my primary insurance.

SuziQ - Lyrics of a song are very important to me. To my DH , not so much. I would love to have written a wonderful song.
I didn't mention yesterday's Challenge. I suppose I am grateful for the challenge of us moving to Hove. Two years of frustration and disappointment. But we got there in the end.
Moment this week - Sitting in the pizza restaurant with the grandchildren and the family. So blessed. In so many ways. I love being with my darlings, but I also am conscious of the privilege of being able to enjoy those moments. My grandchildren are too young to realise how lucky they are, but I was conscious of my son spending some people's weekly food budget on that one meal. We only drank water and the children eat free, but still ........ I try to remember to contribute a Christmas treat to the food bank box every time I go to the supermarket.
I do have a 'rant' I want to make about one aspect of their lives, but it seems a bit disloyal. Maybe another time. I am bothered by it though. I do just keep my mouth such and don't comment. No one wants a bolshy MIL. Just wanted you all to know it's not all paradise.
My cousin that I was worried about has emailed me to say that his reason for silence last year was a bad head injury from falling and a big cranial operation. He has recovered, thank goodness, but his medical team are surprised. I will visit them next year in my old town, Horsham. Going to be writing about him again soon in my memoir.
Seize the Day, folks!

Yesterday's list checked off. Today puppy's waiting for a week after last shot period is over. Joe's taking the dogs and me to the beach, eeeee, I'm so excited!!. Other to-do's call MD reschedule appt, relocate tree, make rum balls and KJ's adult fudge, pay eye Dr, attend Special District presentation, drop off harassment policy, get Chief's preferences, Wild Rivers Symphony and stay AF.
Machka distilled from 2000 to less than half (860)? Well done! Gorgeous ride great reward.
Welcome RhondaSebas, Melanie from Alberta!
Lanette Ensure, what a great idea! I used to give protein bars, 'til I learned that wasn't so good for those with poor teeth.
Heather heart: the smiling family pic! How did you learn to juggle?
Pip WTG!
Luci several of my buddies have mentioned being extra tired lately. We're chalking it up to the short daylight.
SuziQ fond memory tears, oh yeah.
Karen in VA Thought we had no choice but to sign up for Medicare A at 65, even when covered by employer's insurance. You must have great coverage! Mine was good, but became secondary to Medicare A at 65.
allie keep us in your pocket when you take that resume in, and give Trudy a big thank you hug from us all.
Janetr and Michele ((hugs)). Never having had a daughter, I can't imagine what you're going through. ((hugs))
Gratitude days
#24 challenge: Better Bones and Balance class. Hard work but makes a difference. On hiatus for December
#25 moment this week: when I tasted a friend's “failed” orange cranberry cooky. It is so much like Mama's Holiday Nut Balls, I won't bake them this year.
Time to snooze a little while. Soon as its daylight Joe will want to GO!
Lighter, lovelies!

Heather I remember how difficult the move to Hove was for you, real estate is a tough tough business where you live! But that is all in the past and you have a wonderful home and community and close to your grands! It does give me hope though, DH and I are just starting on the journey, really just trying to zero in on where, when and what. yesterday we took a little (1.5 hours north) to look at a beautiful, modern little lake house and were carried away by how perfect it seemed. Way overpriced and we're not really ready to commit but it was a real eye opener to what is out there and what we like. So lucky that DH and I are on the same page about style, price etc. It will be a long saga, I'm sure but we want to stay (at least part-time) in NY until his mom passes, then we will permanently relocate somewhere warm, probably southern US.
Staying away from the raindrops as well as the negative stressed out atmosphere at work.

Good morning beautiful ladies!!!💐💐I wanted to pop in and let y’all know I’ve missed being able to be here.Life is So hectic,I barely have time to talk to myself.Much love, many hugs, and gratitude for y’all!!!❤️❤️❤️
Debby in Va5 -
BarbaraI do have great insurance. However, I was really talking about the issue with Part B & Medigap underwriting. There is a big difference in the Medigap "guaranteed issue" policies (& enrollment periods) if your employee health is primary vs secondary to your Part B. Who knew?1

Karen in VA - AHA! Your journey down Medicare lane is bringing back memories. My DH is 7 years older than me and stayed on my employer health plan until I retired at 65 then we both went onto Medicare.
I remember he had several visits to the hospital during the time he was on my coverage, and their accounting department kept trying to put the bills through to Medicare (because of his age I guess) who denied them, even though I told hospital every time he was there that he wasn't on Medicare and to bill MY insurance, here's yet another copy of my insurance card, etc.
Hospital got paid of course when they figured out to bill my insurance.
It was a bit worrisome at first as I thought we let something slip through the cracks and we'd get stuck with some huge medical bills.
With my surgery this summer, I was so glad we paid the little extra to get onto Plan F. I see copies of the bills but don't have to go through the stress of being in the middle anymore or having to figure out co-pays or any of that.
Karen - great that you are still on your employer's plan and have time to get it figured out. We were prepped and had everything lined up prior my actual last day at work/coverage ending, all I had to do was drop off the Medigap paperwork with the insurance broker who faxed it over the same day and go online to get enrolled in Part D. Glad its all done. Good luck!

Barbara - re juggling. I misspent my junior school years playing 'twoballs' at every break. Probably in the winter as I was doing gymnastics on the grass in the summer. I was very good at it, could do all the tricks, and taught myself to play with three balls. Never graduated to four though. It was nice to have a skill which impressed the grandchildren and even DH. He had no idea.
Been for my 5k run along the seafront. Gorgeous. I'm trying to atone for 3 days last week of no exercise and mega consumption.
