Hello everyone.
A quick status post. I am still keeping ahead of the 30- and 40-something self pounds lost although there was a slight pause last week. I have been challenged this month with keeping my exercise goal. I am slowly but surely getting back to it as I want to finish this year and start the next strong. And, of course, all of the holiday goodies. I can say logging every bite has certainly helped me not to derail myself.
I have been writing down my 20 for 2020 (great idea Lanette?). Some of my 2020 goals are actually month-to-month goals and some are rather lofty. I plan on printing out the list and keeping it as the first page of my 2020 journal. It will keep it in the forefront.
Sending hugs to all and prayers to those in need.

Hello everyone.
Heather – I hope DH gets on board with the “filming”. Maybe a nice glass of wine or the grands directing may lighten his mood.
Lisa – I am very sorry to hear about your brother and can completely understand with your decision of not visiting. I will say I was glad I was able to tell my father, via a call, that all was forgiven and it was OK to let go. He was in a coma when I spoke to him. It may be something you may want to consider; a final goodbye. Although we can do it in our minds there is something about saying it to the person whether or not they can reply. It sounds like you need the winter break – enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
Tina – Hope DH blood pressure gets under control. How nerve-racking having to wait on test results. Enjoy the trip.
Michelle – Start Christmas decorating in September! Wow! Vince must love his lights. Hopefully he does not get to the point where he wants to leave them up year round.
Karen – I hope your partner is settling in and recovery has started.
Machka – Praying the spot was nothing more than that. I just “love” when they have to start taking “pieces” out of us. Your garden area is beautiful. Congrats on the weight loss.
Lanette – I have always thought we should eat like our ancestors and genetics play a big role in our overall health. And, also agree previous generations were much more active. But, our foods of the past were less refined and also had less chemicals and preservatives. And, if we go back even further we were all hunter/gathers. So our basic diets consisted of fruits and vegetables and binges on meat. But I digress. My family is mostly from the Eastern Bloc which could be the cause of my cravings for comfort foods.
RV Rita – Big hug to you. Hope you’re able to get back on track in time for the holiday.
Rebecca – Love the pictures of Athena. She is adorable. And, if your body does not want breakfast – it does not want breakfast. It’s OK to have your first meal at 1 pm, if that works for you. I am a true believer in listening to our bodies (not our minds). When we do we have more success than following any “diet plan”. Oh, the sample tables at the stores. I would not be able to resist with such a beautiful presentation. Congrats on the weight loss!
NYKaren – Enjoy both the time off and the technology break!
Betsy – Prayers for your sister. TG you are almost through your legal challenges (or should I say family challenges).
Barbara – The story of Little Grandma terrorizing your cousins with her cane in her 90s made me chuckle and reminded me of my mother’s mom. She was a tough one and no one in the family could figure out why I was her favorite. During a familial talk with my mom prior to her passing we put it together. I was her mini-me. I only hope to fill her shoes and be as strong as she was during her life.
Okie – I have been slowly but surely working through my closet. It is a good feeling getting rid of the big clothes. The only problem is my closet is looking a little sparse and I am not buying too many new clothes since I am not yet at goal.
Michele – Enjoy the time with Jess!
It’s off to the races for me. I found out Marshall’s opens at 7am today and I want to beat the crowds. I really need a new pair of blue jeans and am looking for a food scale. Oh, how I hate jean shopping today – what ever happened to a non-faded, non-ripped pair of blue jeans!

Morning all! Happy Sunday! I didn't do my normal shop and errand running yesterday. Instead I just laid low, did a little housework (laundry, dishes, dust and sweep) and that was all. This cold is still making me very fuzzy headed; or perhaps it is more the lack of sleep due to the cold is making me fuzzy headed. Anyway, I will do my shop this morning and prep for my only childcare day (tomorrow); then I am off for a week (until the 2nd of January)!
Luci- Happy belated birthday!
Pip- How did the rainy walk go? Love the ornaments! What a cool idea!
Machka- Your to-do list goals sound perfect! Sit, sit in the garden, sit and read in the garden...etc. I like your new profile pic; you look like you are soaking up as much sun as possible!
Rebecca- That Athena! What a smile!
SuziQ- I don't understand the WW1 and WW2 part of your graph. What do those columns mean?
Michele- Your wreath offering looks yummy; and how wonderful that Jess is on her way (probably there by now?)
Katla- Your live Christmas tree has me thinking of my brother in law. He always gets a live tree so that he can plant it outside (or donate it to a local park to be planted there), but he places his potted tree on a wheeled base, so that he can just wheel it through his house and put it where he wants. I found that quite clever.
Barbara- I also go with an outer waterproof "shell" and then layer my clothes under that. I usually wear a baseball cap then pull the hood over that. The cap helps keep the hood covering my head. I don't listen to music while I walk outside. If I am on the treadmill, I do. When I was running daily, I used the music though. I think I needed it to keep me from quitting. lol
Betsy- So sorry to hear the news of your sister! Sending prayers/vibes of strength and healing for her (strength and peace to you)
Love and hugs to all of you! Time for me to get things done. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)3 -

Today, my husband and I walked to the beach and back!
I didn't do any walking on Saturday at all, and figured that by Sunday (today) I should be all right. Getting down there was OK, but by the time we stopped and sat down, where I took the photo below, my right leg was tired. By the time we climbed back up to home, my right leg was tired and sore.
Who would have thought that a little biopsy would do that!!
I am glad we got out and may try it again tomorrow.
There may also be more sitting outside in the late afternoon sun ...
I've been posting my summer photos here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/machka-bb/albums/72157712143875701

It's the Sunday before Christmas, ladies!
I'm enjoying reading what some of you are wearing for your winter walks. One of these days I'll run across a nice Goretex parka, with snaps, on sale and retire my old stuff. Reading what Kim wears reminded me Helly Hansen might also be a source. Well made, long wearing outerwear that can withstand being worn on fishing boats!
Betsy - glad the mediation is done, so sorry to hear about your sister though. I can't remember - did she go with you to Alaska in the summers? Seems like you had a helper or two.
SuziQ - had to laugh at you being your grandmother's "mini-me". By the way, I need to teleport you up here to take a look at the little palm tree/plant my friend gave me for Christmas, she picked it up in Pensacola when she was down there over Thanksgiving. It's not looking too well. By the way, you must be fairly close to your goal? Love your graph - my "weigh-in" is tomorrow. I'm not sure I can come up with 20 for 2020, but I did jot down 5 yesterday. Still mulling it over.
I did purchase a food scale, off Amazon, about a month ago. I'm surprised at how much I use it.
Rebecca - thank you again for the photos of Athena. What a happy little gal! It sounds like you are doing IF by skipping breakfast whether you mean to or not. It's good for your brain, too. Congrats on your weight loss!
Allie - a cruise for your 60th sounds great; glad your brother finally got that surgery done and hope he's doing well. I saw some BT earbuds on Amazon for around $25 and will check them out further. I'd be syncing to a tablet, not a phone, so am curious about the range. I am getting my list of questions ready for the geek at Staples.
Barbara AHMOD - did I read it right that you are going to have the computer dude download Windows 10 to your current laptop? Ya, it's a pain using someone else's laptop, especially when the keys stick. Threw the lighted keyboard I was using with the PC in the office into the trash for the same reason.
OK ladies, need to get back to my shopping list too. Heading out at 7:30 and hope to beat the rush.
Make it a good day. And as Rori says, we can do this.

Bah! ...Saw a photo taken this week at a staff party. Even having shed 25 pounds this past year, I am a long, long way from goal.
Before my husband left the house this morning (he leaves for an early prayer meeting before church and then I go get our son from his home and we join him for services), he sat down and nearly begged me to help him lose weight and get healthy. His back cannot tolerate anymore weight and he fears needing additional back surgery if he doesn't do something. This will be both of our goals for 2020.
My Christmas shopping will be done this afternoon. I am still waiting on "guaranteed delivery" items but expect some of them will actually arrive on the 24th. If they don't, I'll just print out photos of the items on the computer and wrap that. None of us will be heartbroken to not have the actual item if they arrive late. No littles at our house to console.
The next few days I will bake a few cookies that are Christmas must-haves, but that's not a burden to me ... it relaxes me. I just need to stay out of them!
Those of you dealing with illness ... rest quietly and get well soon.

Michele, Thank you for sharing the recipe for the wreath. I copied it an added it to my recipe file on the computer. It reminds me a bit of a spinach dip I made years ago that was a big hit, but the wreath would be beautiful as well as tasty.
Betsy, congrats on the success with the mediation and hugs to you and your sister.

Edie is here! She's been making planes with DH and then climbing the apple tree to fly them. Now they are playing football out there! Brrr!
They dropped her off without having had lunch! (They'd been to see Santa). I found some sliced bread in the freezer.
Having one at a time is so nice.
I cleaned most of the morning and DH joined in without being asked. Well, it is his daughter who is coming this evening. Food is all sorted apart from the coleslaw he offered to make. I think he does want to make it himself.
Feeling a bit more relaxed now.

Betsy - So terribly sorry about the news for your sister - while pleased about the remediation's nearing an end successfully.
Heather - glad to see you relaxed again. Enjoy your Edie time.
SuziQ - thanks for the advice re: brother.
And on that note, it appears the second try at shocking my brother's heart out of AFib and into normal sinus rhythm was successful, though they're not sending him home until sometime this week. The other brother two years older than me and sister two years younger are making plans to go see him at home the weekend of the 4th/5th, so the death sentence appears to have been lifted, or at least postponed. And, of course, my grandson is due on the 6th, so... I'm pretty much planning on being in Kansas with my daughter and new grandbaby - or simply staying home and going up to see her on the 11th with my husband...
We'll see how it all goes.
So far, at a complete standstill on the Keto thing, but I have memories of Allie going through a few stalls early, so trying not to fret. Have been utterly faithful--but my body doesn't seem to care. I'm not gaining, at least, which is better than was happening the last three months...
A very large, new book is calling my name (Neal Stephenson, Fall) so I believe I will go indulge.
Love y'all,
Later,

Michelle: Enjoy the time with your daughter. I envy you for that visit. Our kids are far, far away on distant planets—Illinois and Virginia. :ohwell:
Heather: Don’t forget to breathe—in through the nose and out through a gentle jaw, as my yoga teacher would say. :flowerforyou:
KJ: It sounds as though your DBIL and I are on similar pages. I use our garden cart to move the tree in and out of the house. I bought the new tree because I am unable to lift the original into the cart by myself. DH and I could do it together in the past, but not this year. :ohwell:
Allie: Your happiness is a delight. WTG!!!
Machka: A “little” biopsy is an assault to your immune system and it needs to kick into gear to recover. Rest is it’s best healing option. :flowerforyou: Since we’re “polar opposites” regarding seasons, what do you do to add light to your life in the winter? I always think of our Christmas lights as a mood lifter in long nights and short days. The added lights in the short days of winter help me stay cheerful.
Beth: It is such good news that your DH has decided he needs to look after his own health and has asked for your help.
Heather: Your move to Brighton has made a brilliant difference in your life. It was the right thing for you and your family. Enjoy your visit with DH’s daughter.
I had a bit of a weight upsurge over the last year or so and am working my way back down to the weight my damaged knee prefers. I am making progress. I keep reminding myself about the story of the tortoise and the hare. I need to be the tortoise in order to succeed. Slow and steady wins the race. Have a great day.

Amber-TX This disease is weird. One day a certain food doesn’t bother me, the next it does. I do have a list of foods that affect me every time however. They include: potatoes, tomatoes, broccoli, seafood, soy, corn, bananas, oranges, pork, and a few more I can’t think of right now. Other foods sometimes does, sometime doesn’t. So, I eat what I want for the most part and hope for the best! Lol

Rita ~ What a cute idea! Love the photo of your grandson.
Question: For those of you who do IF, do you log your calories during your time to eat?
Carol in GA1 -
Carol ... theoretically, you do not need to log calories with Fast-5 IF as it is believed that eventually your automatic appetite control will kick in. Quite freeing. However, it is entirely possible to eat enough food during your window to embarrass even a longshoreman (how do I know this you ask ... ) so that logging is a good way to "hybridize" and watch your input. I am not logging through the holidays ... just focusing on maintaining the fasting/eating period, but will log again in the new year as it is a good tool.3

Same here. Can't see the news feed since the morning.1

Rita - Love it! How enterprising!
The whole family descended on us at going home time. Oh boy! Energy central! But it was a very good afternoon. Lots of music and games.
I had to clear them out to get the table and food ready for my stepdaughter. All is done and looks lovely. Christmas tree, soft lighting and candles.
OK, she's just phoned to say she got on the wrong train so she is going to be at least an hour late. I will need to eat something for sure. She has been dashing from place to place as she hates staying in her flat. She must be exhausted. DH probably feels he is getting the '*kitten* end' of her attention, though I guess we are lucky to see her at all. Not my daughter, not my problem.

I was planning on some dairy free ice cream as a Christmas treat but now I realize I have been eating too many cookies. I must earn those treats with weeks below max calories! Not just a good day here and there.
I'm a little discouraged going into the New Year with the same old issues. At least my hip is stronger.

Lynette. The palms like sandy, loose soil and lots of sun. They can live on very little water. They loved humidity so be sure to spray. Epson salts for fertilizer. Good luck with it.1

Finally caught up for December. Work the past two weeks has been extremely busy with budget etc., and getting ready to get to Arizona for Christmas. Got here Friday. Uneventful flight, just very tired (almost no sleep Thursday and arrived at airport at 4:30 am). Sleep getting back in sync, Having wonderful time spoiling grandkids. Grilling out today and Christmas day (burgers today, skirt steak and various southwest dishes for Christmas day). Hope everyone makes it through the holidays well.
Have been getting some exercise in but yesterday jammed a toe on son's bathroom scale. Swollen, purple, painful third toe. Walking is not great with it (especially trying to walk normally). Will keep an eye on it but not much can be done. May buddy tape it later and see if it helps.

I am definitely sleeping better on my IF plan. Last night I didn't take my muscle relaxer because I was tired! Slept hard from 9:45pm to 9:45 am! Maybe I needed it, or maybe I was just lazy. I do have moments of feeling hungry, but it passes. Today I am sticking to my tried and true meal, sausage w/ zucchini, lots of spices. Then rice, chicken stock, and simmer. Then spinach, make a nest and crack an egg in that. Cover until its creamy done. My last fixing I got the egg done too much! I shall tend my food better!
Still haven't heard from Navy son in Japan. At this point I am not putting too much emotion into it all. It does me no good. Life is what it is, and I can't change things. If he calls then I will have my gift for Christmas. If he doesn't I have to accept that he might've had watch, or duty. The Navy doesn't stop for holidays or anything. The Navy is also mother and father, so his needs are being met. I say all these things hoping my heart will hear them and calm down.💖

Did a Weight Loss Pilates DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to take the extremepump class.
M – but if you made a meal of, say, flounder, veges, and an apple, but I only have the apple, that wouldn’t work
SuziQ – Vince mentioned leaving the lights up the other day (I suspect he was kidding me) and you should have seen the look I gave him! Well, Jess got here about 11:30 last night and slept until around 10 today. So all’s well there. I’ll still miss very much seeing PJ for Christmas. I haven’t seen him since September. I do suspect it’s Maria who is putting the ideas in Denise’s head. Denise asked if we and Jess could come up in early January, then if we could come up in late January. Like we’d have time to take all the decorations in. Maria probably only has one tree, we have 7. I bet she does minimal decorating outside, Vince goes all out. Well, I’ll post pics on Facebook, hopefully she’ll see them.
Lanette – my weigh in was today. After last night, I expected a gain. Well, it’ll come off, of that I’m sure.
While we were in Iowa earlier I got these 2 penguin blowmolds. They were $50 each. I saw them on Amazon, $89 each!
Beth – I held off baking cookies for the exact same reason – if they weren’t here I didn’t have something to get into. Now they’re here. Well, I tried to make ones that I could give away.
Think I’ll go to Sam’s and get a rib eye that I was going to have for Christmas Day. It’s supposed to be in the 60’s so I don’t think Vince’ll mind grilling. I’m thinking that I’ll just have an Beyond Burger. Actually, I like them better than the Impossible Burger. I think they’re juicier. Update: got the rib eye
Just got back from Sam’s. First I accidentally got Choice and I really wanted Prime so I had to go back and exchange it.
Vince talked about going to NY Hibachi grill tonight. I know what I’m going to get. They have this “bar” where you can pick what you want them to grill. I’ll get crab, shrimp, veges and have them grill that without butter. That’s what I usually get
Ginny – ouch!!!
Went to Aldi with Jess. Found out some of the other things she likes. Waiting for Colby so we can go to dinner.
