Good Sunday!
Viv-prayers for your sister and mum.
Machka- I can't even imagine riding a bike that long! I can't drive a car that long. WOW! I agree with Ketonekaren!
Ladies, I have read up to date even if I haven't commented individually. Congratulations to the losses! Prayers for those in need! Hugs for all!
I am off to get my to do list done so that I can start this week on a high note.
Have a blessed day!

Hello everyone.
It's a little chilly here in SFL - I awakened to 50 degrees. Now, do not laugh - it was almost 80 yesterday and a 30-degree drop is certainly felt around these parts.
I have been messing around this month and the scale is showing it. I can hear Pip saying it's time to get the boot out. Not sure why I am flip/flopping but am determined to get back on track. Scale is still moving downward which is a plus, but I am not keeping up with my younger self.
This week is going to be a crazy one. I think I mentioned we are going through a system conversion and there will be many from corporate shadowing us to see how we do our jobs. For those of you who are experienced with system changes what they are doing is basically requirements gathering. Our last go-live date was in the recent past (it was the 4th) and we still have not gone live. The project has been run completely backwards and is a wonderful study on what not to do. I have two full days of going through our processes and will be locked down in a conference room with the big guns. Since I am taking Friday off it will not leave me a lot of time to do the work that really needs to get done. I will be logging in today to try and get ahead of the curve.
Machka - Congrats on getting the paper done and with the ride. You are really dedicated holding the event for one rider. Nice run.
Ginny - I have been finding many great recipes within MFP and also love experimenting with new spices and types of food. Enjoy the meeting!
Michele - Not telling you to go to the doctor, but I would probably go to an ENT before an allergist. Unless, of course, you are convinced it's an allergy. If an allergy you will need to be prepared to get shots for 1-2 years to get rid of it.
Heather - Would love to see some Burns' Night pictures. I am sure it was a lovely time.
Barbara - It sounds like you have your work cut out for you today getting things put up and away.
Terri - We all need a "couch" day every now and then. I love curling up under a blanket and watching TV or reading an afternoon away.
Viv - Prayers for your mom and SIL. And, yes, living alone makes lifestyle changes much easier because temptations do not need to be brought in to the house. When I wasn't single I had dedicated areas in the pantry and refrigerator for my foods. It made it easier for me because I just looked at those areas. Meals were adjusted so all could enjoy (i.e. heavy sauces and such on the side).
Marianne – Congrats on the weight loss! WTG!!
Karen – Great news about your GD. Happy your partner is moving forward in her recovery from surgery.
Kylia – Wow, you had a Saturday! Hopefully today is kinder to you.
General commentary on organics.I will preface and say I am very fortunate to have many shopping options very close to me. There are several grocery and big-box stores, little specialty shops, and Costco is less than 5 miles away. I am not a picky eater and like to try different vegetables and have no problem eating the same thing during the week as long as it isn't longer than 3 days in a row. Costco is now carrying quite a selection of organic and non-GMO’d foods and so are other stores and shops.
Because of where I live and have many options I can shop organics when on sale and am finding it really isn't that much more expensive, if properly planned. I take advantage of BOGOs (buy one, get one), buy in bulk, and take advantage of the sales. If organic squash is on sale I buy double and prep and freeze portions. If I buy 2 pounds of organic spinach, I plan my meals around it (salad, soups, side dish, etc.) and then freeze the balance for smoothies.
Do I eat conventional products - of course I do. I also try to keep up with recent studies and stay away from the "Dirty Dozen" https://www.ewg.org/foodnews/dirty-dozen.php#.WfzBNK2ZPfY as much as possible.
There was a lot of talk about apples which are listed within the “Dirty Dozen” list. Some interesting facts and articles.
Excerpts from Forbes article (link below).
According to the USDA, in addition to the 81 percent of conventional apple orchards which spray organophosphates on apple orchards, carbamates and pyrethroids are also used nation wide (on 35% and 29% of fields, respectively). Chlorpyrifos, a chemical linked to lowered IQ and higher incidence of ADHD in children is also still sprayed on 59 percent of apple orchards in the U.S., endangering the general public and those children living in rural areas.
According to the Environmental Working Group's analysis of USDA data, pesticides showed up on 98 percent of the more than 700 apple samples tested (yes, they were washed). And it wasn't just one pesticide either - apples from around the country, domestically grown and imported, were found to have up to 48 different kinds of pesticides on them. While less than the 69 types used on cucumbers, that's still far more than the single pesticide found in sweet corn (shucked) or the 15 on oranges (peeled).

It is my hope that one day with enough of us pushing for organic/non-GMO’d foods it will become the norm and will be more accessible and affordable for all.
Well, time is running away from me, once again, and I really need to get moving. Lots to do and prep for the week.
Hugs to all and prayers for those in need.

Good morning! Long time MFP member here, but joined WW online yesterday. Hoping to get help dropping the 20 pounds I’ve added to my bod over the past 9 years. I’m pretty active, but portion control is my issue. And wine. 😳
I love to run, bike, swim, and play pickleball, but I am not out burning my intake, obviously. I’d like to get some breathing room in my pants, and ease up the weight on my knees and ankles, not just for running, but for being upright in general!
I’m retired and my husband’s caregiver (cancer), but I am lucky in that he is able to be left alone still for an hour or two at a time.
Happy Sunday to all!6 -
Viv Sometimes if I have a long wait in line I will practice balancing on one foot and then the other. If anyone is unsteady on their feet I wouldn't recommend doing this. I do it to work on my core and my balance. Having good core and balance is what can prevent falls. If you are unsteady I would work on building up your core, first. Just sitting and working on tightening your muscles in your abs and tryng to pull your belly button towards your back works your core. I use this example because there are many ways you can build your core without sit ups.

well I am up and dressed, 2 loads in the dryer.. as soon as they are done. will be out running errands.. today is the only day I can get things done..
will see how next week goes.. spoke with Zina last night , so she will probably be there tuesday and weds. but will assist monday for her..
I have decided not to persue the receptionist job at the nursing home, its the residents I love, and with the second generation running it now, its all about money for them..
Both Trudy and I are of the same thought that as we are in the twilight work years we want to work at something we enjoy.. so will keep on the look out.. right now I am ok at the dentist.. but we shall see..watching the food network and cooking shows..2 -

Took my first 10 minutes on the new elliptical, and it gets a little wobbly at speed. Corey said he'll help me adjust it with the supporting legs once he's up and functional. He may be awake, but the 5th cup of coffee must be absorbed and his Sunday morning routine completed. Love that man - while chronologically, he's 9 years younger than I, he's a decade past me in terms of routine... but he wakes up with a smile, and that's worth the world.
Things on my mind:
I need to be moving and need the non-impact work. I do NOT need to get obsessed, overexercise so much that I push myself back into the panic food brain reaction again and gain weight while I'm getting more fit.
The same goes for my writing. I love doing it, and I need it. I do NOT need to get obsessed with it, I do not have the bandwidth for two full-time jobs.
But lordie, I'm happy to be writing again, moving again, and here... it's finally time for me to learn moderation.
I think I can...
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR6 -
SuziQ- thank you for the information on foods. As for system changes, I feel you! My manufacturers keep trying to make changes in the spring. As a mower shop that is the worst time!
BeyondApril- welcome!
Margaret- l love the suggestions for core and balance! Doable anywhere!
So far, so good.....carpets shampooed, breakfast eaten, some decluttering done. Just taking a break. So I mixed plain yogurt half in half with the flavored. Both chobani Greek. Small steps (plus I need fruit)
Off to get more done

Phew!
I have just emerged from a very L O N G afternoon nap.
The BN went wonderfully, including DH's BN quiz, and I managed to limit my whisky drinking and stop early in the evening. I still woke in the night with heart racing and sweating. Moved myself into the other room and read for quite a while before going back to sleep.
Served croissants and muesli with raspberries and other fruit for breakfast.
We knew rain was forecast for later so the four of us went out for a 5k walk along the seafront. Grey day, but the sun did peep out. The wife bought some scallops and smoked haddock at the Fish Shack to take home. Then they left. A good visit. They brought a huge bunch of yellow roses, a bottle of whisky, homemade marmalade and banana chutney!!! Good guests.
I decided that we needed to fit in a bit more exercise to even up our day, so we did another hour in the exercise room. Managed to boot the tally up to 600 calories burn including the walk.
Fed ourselves a light lunch and then I crashed out. Lovely nap.
Going to be quiet for the rest of the day. It's roast root vegetables for dinner with halloumi.
Watched Michael Mosley today in investigating the connection between a good gut microbiome and our mental health. In 4 weeks his guinea pigs increased their microbes and lowered their stress reactions.
Viv - sending hugs. What a lot of stress for you.
Much love to you all. Here is a very poor pic of the two men in their 'Wee Jimmy' hats before the haggis etc arrived on the table. I was playing a recording of bagpipes. You can see the poem DH is going to read out on the table. He did a great Scottish accent!
Great fun.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx who has no Scottish connections!

Machka: I think of both you and your younger self as very fit and determined. I also know that riding your bike brings you joy along with fitness.
Barbara: I loved hearing about your trip to Eugene. DH & I met there while in college. We’d still be there if his work there had not ended. He found a job in the Portland area and we moved north. :ohwell: Now we live by the river and love our home.
Viv UK: Sending prayers for both your sister and mum. I always am amazed at your mom’s long life. It bodes well for your own longevity. .
Karen in VA: Sending good thoughts for your partner’s healing. :flowerforyou:
Lisa in AR: Congratulations on writing again!
Heather: I’m happy that you enjoyed Burns Night. Your DH and his friend look very festive in their red caps.
We have a pretty morning. The river is high but well within its banks and it is not raining. DH is encouraging me to go out to the stable and ride. I’m thinking about it. I will likely call and ask whether this is a convenient day. I still seem to have less energy than I think I should have.

Barbara - my boss is under tremendous stress right now. A lot of budget concerns with the way our province is cutting funding to healthcare, our maintenance supervisor has been on sick leave for going on 3 months and she’s been on call for that. Plus tonnes of other things. I hope it settles for her soon. She is a very nice lady and this is unlike her.
Lisa - I have a moderation issue too, but mine is nothing like my husbands!
Viv - hugs you have a lot on your plate.
Today we are going to Michaela’s 4th birthday party. Lauryn let her invite the little girls in her preschool with no limits because her experience with Jonah has been more than half decline the invitation. All of the little girls have accepted! There are going to be 12 3-4 year olds. It should be fun.
We bought her a book and a couple of outfits along with three little princess dolls that will fit in her hand. Her actual birthday is Jan 3 so we gave her an Elsa doll then too.
We also have her replacement karaoke machine to replace the one we bought for Christmas that broke.
She probably won’t notice us there with all of her little friends. 😂
I have laundry on the go and am sitting on the couch in the sun enjoying the heat from it.

Carol - great! the calorie and fiber count is good and that you like it is even better... I find a single tortilla as a good replacement for 2 pieces of bread if i'm craving a sandwich.
Katla - some times for me low energy just means I have to push myself out there and I get rejuvenated.
Lisa - glad you are writing for fun in addition to grants
Heather - Glad Burns night went so well, but honestly I think you have this entertaining thing down! Worry ahead and then it goes off with aplomb.

Michele - it all depends on what kind of rice you are trying to cook. I am cooking brown rice right now, 22 mins at high plus 5 mins before it's released. One cup rice to one cup water.
If I remember, white basmati rice, which I haven't done in the IP, is 5 mins high pressure, plus 5 mins before releasing. Same proportions.
There are lots of sites, like Amy and Jackie, pressurecookrecipes.com ,which will give you the info for your rice. Have you got the Instant Pot app?
My brown basmati rice came out perfectly.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
Kim - as you know, it's all in the planning and preparation. Once upon a time I did think of becoming a Party Planner as I seem to have a talent that way. It's all in the detail. As I was absolutely chaotic as a young person, I'm not sure how that happened. Perhaps it's overcompensation. I can visualise the sequence of events and what might go wrong very clearly. I think my mother was the same. I didn't realise this was unusual until fairly recently. I find it amazing how people can't see sequences and pitfalls.
Hard work and exhausting being sociable, but it's worth it to make people happy. DH is very appreciative.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
I called the stable and Arrow has a full schedule for today. I may go out just to visit for a little while. The friend I hope to ride with is iffy about whether she will be there or not. I hope she will be there and we can talk about riding together in the future.

Slept in until my body literally ached. Long shower with new shampoo and conditioner, makes me so happy! I then rubbed coconut oil from head to toe! This brand it more creamy than oily, and I can hear my skin drinking it up. I have a nonscale victory to admit. As I raise my leg to put on coconut oil, there are cords on both under sides of my knees. They make me feel powerful! Anyways, I am noticing myself.😁
Received a video on FB of Athena crawling! Her world suddenly got way bigger! I am picturing her getting into the dogs water dishes, and chasing their Rhoomba!

Rebecca ~ I wanted to tell you that the photo with your wall plate friends is so cute. You are a very pretty woman.
Great that Athena is crawling and she'll probably start toddling any time now. My son started walking at 9 months.

Had a lovely walk with DH along the Hudson River, brisk weather and DH keeps a brisk pace! It also seemed to improve my winter blues just a bit. 3.5 miles!
I have my lovely oatmeal prepared for breakfast and red lentil soup ready for a week of work food
Neurologist appt tomorrow, hope to be on the path to heal my hand pain/finger numbness

My most recent 400 km rides were in 2016.
I rode a 400K in Victoria in 25 hours ... and unfortunately picked up measles on the trip there.
3 weeks later we were scheduled to do a 600 km, but I was just too sick.
So another month later we headed up to Victoria to do a different 600K. Unfortunately I hadn't done much cycling in that time because I had been too sick, and I still had a bad cough and difficulty breathing. We managed 400 km in 24 hours, and that was that. I couldn't keep going.
In 2018, we were building up our cycling again, and had done a 300 km in early March ... but late March my husband had the accident ... and since then we've hardly done any cycling.

Just popped in to say goodnight to y'all. We had a great visit with daughter. She was showing me some new craft materials she had bought last week. Our biggest craft store has closed down and sold off all their stock at half price. Unfortunately, I didn't hear about it, so didn't get up to see what was available. Probably just as well, with me doing the depthnyear and supposed to be reining in my unnecessary spending. I have more than enough craft stuff and projects on the go to keep me busy for several decades! (If I last that long! 😂)
Watched Dancing on Ice, and Dr Who after dinner, then a couple of renovation programmes.
💕💖💕 I do hope you enjoy whatever (if any) of your Sunday remains. 💕💖💕5 -
Good evening everyone. Hope your weekend went well.
exermom-MRI for brain was checkup as I had brain cancer in 2015. Surgery was done, chemo and now the test every 6 mos. until 2021-Oct. That is the 5 yr. anniversary date of my last chemo. Still haven't found any.
Mri for elbow is that I injured it 4 mos. ago, let it go, no dr. but the pain is worse so I called the orthopedic dr and that was his suggestion since the pain is increasing.
Had a very nice weekend, quiet -like I like it. Today I went to see Dr. Dolittle at theatre and then drove to the high school for my granddaughter's basketball finals only there was no parking spaces, so I went home and parked and then walked back to the school. After sitting for 2 hrs. I walked home. What takes 3 min. in car takes 20 min. to walk. Now resting for the night. I also called oldest son for his bd while walking. Exercise I wasn't planning on.Now to get ready to start the week.
Have a great week everyone. In 1 day we had 2 pages of communications.

Aww Carol, you are so sweet! Many of my friends say I need to color my hair, but I have no desire to dance that dance. In a constant loop of touch ups etc.
You are beautiful too!💖

I went overboard at a new wine and cheese shop. But I made myself take the dog on an extra long walk before I indulged.
I have to remind myself that this is a life style change and cheese and crackers is part of who I am. I practiced moderation by putting stuff on my plate, half filled with grapes, and left the kitchen. No seconds!
It may sound strange to say I’m proud of myself, but the wedge of cheese and box of crackers didn’t get devoured!8 -

Did some balance games on the Wii. Boy, does my balance s***. The plan for tomorrow is to take the extremepump class.
After exercise went to Aldi then Michaels then WalMart then bought gas. I really didn’t need it, but I got it anyway.
Came home and made more of the lemon bars for Vince to have when we get back, then made some soup. I’m going to try taking that to FL
SuziQ – what would an ENT doc do? I don’t understand how he could help.
Carol – thanks for that tip about the tortilla. Is it 100% whole wheat?
I feel so bad for Jess. She called last night asking if we had any tips as to how she can save money grocery shopping. We told her about using off-name brands, she was talking about Amazon delivery but I showed her that their prices really aren’t all that good. Money I’m sure is really tight. When we get back from FL, I’m definitely going to make her a “care” package. Aldi has potato chips on sale so I will send her a bag at least
Heather – I didn’t know the IP had an app! I’m really loving mine.
Terri – AC Moore went out of business here. They expect to close their store by the end of February. Michael’s bought them out. To me, Michael’s is more expensive and less friendly.
Marianne WV – now I remember you telling us about your tumor! So glad to hear that everything’s just fine
Samand – cheese is one of my downfalls. I’m like you, if I put it on my plate, that’s all I have. Plus, I have this “thing” in me that says that I should finish everything so I clean my plate like a good girl. That’s my portion control, same as yours
Newcomers is evidently having some sort of ceramics get together. The pieces (according to the flyer) START at $15. I almost died. The pieces at the place where we take the ceramics are maybe half that amount. Oh well…. It’s supposed to be in the beginning of February and I won’t be here.
