My 13-year-old grandson is a Supertaster. To his credit, he is an adventurous eater. He'll try anything once! Cruciferous vegetables are bitter to him. His younger sister is a VERY adventurous eater and enjoys all kinds of unique flavors & foods.

My partner has some food eccentricities which used to make going to a restaurant with her embarrassing and unpleasant. We have both adjusted - I have become more tolerant, and she has toned it down, and we enjoy an occasional restaurant meal very much now. In fact, we went to Bonefish Grill with my ex-husband yesterday and had a wonderful time.

My partner is still on her knee scooter and was thrilled to get out of the house yesterday. She gets her cast off in 4 days (Achilles tendon rupture surgery) and will be in a walking boot, but still not weight-bearing until she has completed 2 weeks of PT. She is looking forward to the walking boot, but I think it's going to hurt. I told her I don't think she realizes how often she bears weight on her cast when she transfers from chair/bed to scooter to toilet/shower seat/etc. I think the first time she tries that (prematurely) in her walking boot, it's going to be a rude surprise. It's great that one of us is optimistic, LOL!!!

Irish Terri Inspiring 20 goals for 2020! You are an active woman of many diverse interests. A true role model. What I appreciate about your thoughtful goals: they are achievable but still a daily challenge. <3

Katla That book series sounds interesting! I looked Lisa Kleypas up and the series you are reading, I believe, is the Friday Harbor series, a 4-book fiction series about the Nolan family and set in the San Juan Islands. I think I would really enjoy those books. Kleypas has written novellas, anthologies, historical romances, and contemporary books like the Friday Harbor series. I have never read anything written by her, but I believe now I will! Thanks for that!

Rori I put this in a spoiler because it's TMI on personal female stuff:
Last Pap - that is something to celebrate! I do wish there was a good screening test for ovarian cancer, though. Does your GYN group recommend continuing bimanual pelvic exams without the Pap test or transvaginal ultrasounds to check your ovaries? ACOG (American College of Gynecology) is often at odds with the recommendations from the US Protective Health Services Task Force (USPHSTF), the penultimate authority on screening tests, who says "Do Not Screen for Ovarian Cancer" because there is no reliable way to screen - too many false positives & false negatives. Sometimes I wish 15 years ago when I was practically bleeding to death I would have gone ahead and had a total hysterectomy. They could have repaired my pelvic floor & bladder too. Why oh why didn't I do that? Then my ovaries would be gone & I wouldn't have this nagging worry. Plus I wouldn't leak. I do not want to turn into an ancient woman who reeks of urine. I guess it's better than not turning into an ancient woman, but still... :(

Barbara AHMOD I lost a post with all sorts of replies & I've been meaning to tell you your comment "practically a Lutheran requirement" made me laugh out loud. You're so funny!

I don't know that pelvic exams are particularly useful for detecting ovarian cancer. I go for TVUSs and the CA-125 blood test about every 6-8 months. I will probably go less often once I am fully menopausal.

    Thank goodness for online menus!!

When my work colleagues suggest going out to lunch, and suggest a place, first thing I do is look up the online menu. I can make my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices while in the comfort of my office chair ... and when we get there, I can place my order like a normal human being. :)

I have also discovered that some places will make some substitutes.

For example, if for any reason a great dollop of sour cream is going to be included with whatever I've order, I will often smile and quietly say, "I'd like the whatever, but could you hold the sour cream please". Or if I've ordered a salad ... "No thank you, I'd rather not have any dressing."

I'll actually often suggest getting together at a restaurant or cafe rather than at someone's home. At least in a restaurant or cafe, there's usually something on the menu that will suit me. At someone's home, you just never know.

Yes. Barbara. This. And family members. Plus I would add that another equally poignant thin I long for is the renewal of the 35 year friendship that ended when my BFF found out from an indiscrete mutual friend that I was in a same-sex relationship. She sent me a card that said she hoped I'd be happy, signed it, and wrote me off. I was devastated and still have to put my big girl panties on every day to deal with the cavalier way she ended our friendship. I knew she would have a difficult time with it, and was planning how to tell her when our mutual friend took care of it for me. Big mouth. She has gotten in trouble with her husband for airing private family business before. It wasn't personal. She just loves to gossip & has a hard time stopping herself.

    >>>
    Luci You're welcome.

    >>>
Lisa Oh god. I'm so sorry about your bowel/bladder issues. I might go buy some adult diapers and get over it too. Now that I think of it, it would give me some peace of mind. A friend got good results from physical therapy after giving birth to her 3 girls. I haven't even consulted a specialist, so that's probably first.

Machka Interesting Cancer Council Australia guidelines on screening for ovarian cancer. It's my understanding that retrospective studies have shown that ovarian screening by annual TVU and CA125 is "inefficient" at detecting early-stage ovarian cancers and results in morbidity and increased medical cost due to pursuing false positives…but you know, science aside, I think as a woman, I would rather do SOMETHING than nothing. I imagine I would have to pay out-of-pocket because insurance companies make most of their decisions on what to pay for is evidence-based.

Again Amber thank you for the update. Just seeing China's reaction to this virus we know this needs to be taken seriously. I already said to husband one likes to run his tank to 0 to rethink this and fill sooner.

I know I need to do things to boost my immune system and revisit emergency kit. I had the Swine Flu and I know how bad that was. I still think part of that illness was caused by a major stomach illness the month before (Mexico).
