Karen in Virginia: -- Sick Puppy TalkThank you so much for that information. It helped all of us a lot.
I agree with you that two years is probably optimistic. He does seem better, however. I know he won't heal, but my purpose in getting him to the vet was to get him something to ease his symptoms and make him more comfortable. His sleeping heart rate was below 30 yesterday, and he coughed very slightly just twice.
He is still very clingy, but I don't expect that to stop. During the super bowl, he insisted on sitting on my lap, and at 35 pounds, he is really not much of a lap dog, but it made him feel better, so I let him do it. He is such a sweetie.
Here's my son cuddling with Leif after we'd had a good family talk about his treatment and prognosis.

Rita: We watched the Super Bowl. Both teams played well. Budweiser did not have a commercial with their Clydesdales, so I’ll punish them by not drinking their beer. :grumble: In honesty, I quit all alcohol months ago. It was a good decision for me.
Felicia: Dogs are members of our families. They are our fur children. Our dog is getting up there in years and I’m grateful for him every day—even when he annoys me. :flowerforyou:
Pip: Thieves are everywhere. I’m sorry your pouch was stolen with your rear light inside of it.
I seem to be having problems with my microsotft word document. I’ve had trouble communicating this morning. I lost my entire first post. :grumble:
Yoga today was a full class of men and women—mostly 50+. Today’s teacher has been with us for many years, first as a student and later as a teacher. She is usually the youngest person in class. I doubt whether she is 40 yet. Maybe. I enjoyed class today.
A woman joined our class recently after having a stroke. She was there today. She’s a warrior on the inside—and won’t let the stroke deprive her of things she likes to do. Yoga is helpful for her recovery. She’s been to several different yoga teachers, including chair yoga, and likes our class best. My DH goes to the chair yoga classes and they are very positive for him.
I’ll stop by again later.

Took the extremepump class. Not going to exercise tomorrow so we can get an early start.
Welcome everyone new!
M – the same amount that your insurance that would require you to wait a full year. In other words, if you go the private route, would you pay (let’s just say) $100 and if you go the other way (public?) where you’d have to wait, would you still pay $100? Or would it be covered 100% whereas private you’d have to pay something. I can’t imagine not knowing the times/days of classes. When I was studying exercise prescription, a lot of the classes I took were dependent on whether I could make it to the class or not.
Evelyn – yes, that’s what I meant.
I’m thinking that while I’m in FL I won’t log (or maybe just not every day) but try to be more mindful of what it is I’m putting in my body. We shall see how it goes, what I weigh when I get back.
Never had a really flat tummy but lately have I got rolls no matter what I do! Well, some people might not think they’re all that bad, but because I very seldom had them before…it’s making me very very sad and disgusted with how I look. Like I have this one exercise top, I know that I would never have bought it if my rolls were so visible at the time but now…..I’m going to donate it to the Salvation Army. I’m wearing it now just because my other exercise tops are packed away, but once we get back…..
After exercise stopped at the Salvation Army. Got a pair of pants. Then to Aldi just to get frozen foods.
Pip – what’s with the gym you go to? Things seem to get stolen from you left and right. I’m so sorry this happened to you.
Vince wants to shut down the network tonight so I won’t be posting tomorrow. Then it’ll be a while before we have internet so I probably won’t post until Wednesday
Bowling today. We just packed the car (well, almost). There are still a few last-minute items that have to go in the car. Will take a shower. Not going to ceramics or mahjongg tonight. I talked Vince into subbing bowling while we're in FL. Even tho it's only for a month, even our secretary agreed that something is better than nothing.

Strange day! First exercise on an empty belly, no coffee! I did ok, weight machine work was fine, but 15 min into my treadmill I was "ok I am done" . I had salmon on avocado toast, with some ramen soup (soup only) from my trek with eldest son yesterday to our ramen place.
I had the pork ramen, have son the larger piece of pork, but I still had a smaller piece. Ok this might sound weird, but the pork piece had fat around it, but I bit into it, and ended up eating the whole piece, fat and all. I told the ramen chef that the fat part in the pork was like creamy butter. It just melted in my mouth. It was a strange experience to eat something my brain would normally cut away. I had planned my ramen trek, logged it and so I did gain 1 lb from the experience. No worries.
Hugs ladies.💖

Michele ... the public system (government system) is free. But since most people are on the public system and do not have insurance there can be long waits for things.
The private system is expensive and the only way most of the people who use it can afford it is to have insurance. Significantly less people use the private system so waits are short.
What is covered in the private system depends on what insurance package you get. We have full hospital cover so a surgery in the private system doesn't cost me anything.
Either way, I pay nothing ... except, of course, for the insurance. But I'm paying that anyway, so I might as well use it!

Ooops, bit of a slip up tonight calorie wise. Not a disaster, but..... Live and learn. Again.

Machka SMH at your department’s last minute “scheduling.” Can not fathom not knowing instructors, days and times of classes before signing up for those classes, much less not until a day or two before. :noway: Not even knowing in which courses their students are enrolled? How do they get away with it?
The way this university (or my department) works is ...
There are a few "professors"(?) who are responsible for a number of courses each. The courses might be Bachelor level or Masters level, and they could be located in Hobart, Launceston, China (Shanghai Ocean University or the Ocean University of China located in Qingdao, China) or the Malaysia University of Science and Technology.
The "professors" may lecture at one or more of those locations but because they can't be everywhere, lecturers are hired from wherever (businesses, other universities, etc) and are given the same well-used PowerPoint presentations which have been in circulation for years. The lecturers are hired based on need ... on how many students enrol. This year, enrolment closes February 23 and classes start February 24, so we may not have our official lecturer on the first day because there has been a surge of enrolment at the last minute.
And this is also why I don't know what day my first class is ... it's kind of like if they get, say, 300 students, they'll just hold the Thursday lecture, but if they get 600 students, they'll hold the lecture on Wednesday and Thursday and students will be divided in half and told which lecture is theirs ... at some point in advance, I hope.
Lectures make up half the course. The other half are the workshops/tutorials/labs. Most of these are run by grad students working toward their PhDs. Occasionally the "professor" might run one. Occasionally a lecturer might run one, but usually it is PhD students. And again, the number of workshops/tutorials/labs will depend on the number of students ... which they won't know till Feb 23. They try to keep the number of students in each of these workshops/tutorials/labs down to about 30. So if there are 300 students, they'll try to run 10 workshops/tutorials/labs. But if there are 600 students, there might be 20 workshops/tutorials/labs.
To me, it's a messy and confusing way to do things but whatever.
So ... given that some of our professors and lecturers could be in China right now ... and about half the student body in my department ... everything is up in the air.
Incidentally, I also work for the health department here, so we're being kept informed on the health aspect of things.

Flea - kindest you can do for a pet is what he’s doing hold them, lay with them, show absolute love. When I was 13yrs old working in the animal shelter used to do that to the ones I knew were dying or would be put to sleep in the morning. One good memory as they drift off.

It's my ultra busy week, so had to skim read, and now I can't keep my eyes open, so going to bed.
Machka: But it's a productive ache. 😂
Hope everyone forgives my not commenting, but I don't really have anything to add comments already made.
Enjoy the rest of your Monday.

Well we had snow last night. I had to get out early to warm the car up and scrape windows so I could go get my hair cut. My labradoodle, Nessa loves the snow. She runs around like a crazy dog in it.
I got a jigsaw puzzle for my birthday. DD and I like putting them together. Started on it yesterday afternoon and found it was missing lots of pieces, at least 24 from the frame alone. Packed it up and will take it back. Very disappointing.
Karen in VA - I lived in Sioux Falls for about 40 years until I retired then moved to WA in 2015 to be close to kids. Glad I did that since DH died last spring. DD and I live together on 10 acres here. Yes your picture looks like a SD winter except for the trees.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA4 -
Sue in WA: I’m delighted that you had enough snow for Nessa to play in. I can imagine her fun. We had light frost this morning—but it only affected the flower bed between the river and the lawn. The lawn right next to it had no frost. I’m still wondering why one side was frosty and the other not at all frosty. :ohwell:
