Karen in VA: Lisa I, for one, would find sarcastic greeting cards irresistible. That card company missed out on that opportunity! You could probably print them yourself. And sell them online. I'd be one of your customers.
SuziQ - Between the supervisor switch and not being tapped for the internal job I applied to a while back, I've had similar frustrations, without the serial promises, however. Advice in spoiler, read at your own risk!No worries about ranting, if doing so in a safe venue gives you some peace. For me, when my evil twin charges across my mind, at least once every day or two, I have to sit down and reframe these things, neither of which I could have changed.
First reframes on the internal job:- I know I interviewed well, but the decision was made before I ever interviewed.
- No matter how much I believe I could have done a better job, other personal goals are at stake, and the promotion and raise were never factored into those personal goals. In other words, the only thing that got trampled on was my ego. Otherwise, our plans are going along just fine without me getting that job.
- I know they didn't want to lose me in the job I'm in, which is a big compliment.
- My current job consists of probably 50 percent of the effort necessary to do the job I applied for. Sometimes fate favors those foolish enough to try, just not quite in the way they thought it should happen.
Second reframe re: supervisor: The switch in my supervisor was a massive compliment, as well:- They thought I had the internal fortitude and dogged stubborness to help teach her how to direct others.
- They believed I had the ability to break her to the saddle before she broke me.
Written one article this morning, letting it marinate until tomorrow, and enjoying a sunny, if chilly, day in Arkansas.
Later,
Love,
Lisa

Wind has arrived. Hope the aerial stays up for the tv tonight.

Lisa, thank you for the perspective. I know the timing wasn't just so in the past which is completely ok and I'm fine with that. And, if I am truthful my boss's hands are probably tied and she is just as frustrated as I am with the current situation. The corporate office is taking more and more control even though they still do not completely understand the division. We all are on borrowed time. I really want the title for better opportunities in the not so distant future.
Congratulations on finishing the article.4 -
SuziQ I wish I could say your problem is unusual. I unfortunately think it is more the norm today. When something goes smoothly on the first try that really puts a smile on my face.
I think you are right they are responding this way to save money.
I did take Social Security about a little over a year from when I could start. I did because DH is 7.5 years older than me and has cancer. I am holding off on my pension. Every year I leave it in I will get more per month when I start to take it.
Everyone has a different situation when it comes to Social Security and has to decide what works best for them.

Kylia: Friday was lovely. Thanks for the good wishes.
SuziQ in SW Florida: DH found a good local plumber who did excellent work and didn’t over charge. We’re happy with his work and feel like we had a fair price. (HomeAdvisor sent us somebody who drove out to give us a rediculously high bid. We didn't accept his bid.) :noway:
Karen: Thank you for the map that shows us the location of Terri and Heather’s home-towns. :flowerforyou:
I just heard from my horseback riding instructor. I have a lesson tomorrow at 1:00. YAYYY!

In the circles I run in it's typical to bring something to contribute foodwise. We're all kind of broke so people all pitch in together.6

Picked it up, 1st time driving it. It has a touchy gas pedal!!

Gothchic- Bestest friends do potluck! I always liked that or we’d eat out one person buy big fries 🍟.Another few would buy side dish of veggies . Another few a pitcher of drinks which came with cups. We’d all go in on the meat 🥩 if we wanted some or buy our own but share the rest. Was a great time . Did the same with entertainment like movies big bucket of popcorn we all chipped in got our own drinks. I always had the coupons so 1/2 off a burger 🍔 then we’d share it lol 😂. Sliver each. We walked to exercised as a group so always great jokes.

Margaret,
I agree with you 100%. When to take SS is a very personal choice and is dependent upon so many factors. The same holds true with some pensions. DH decided he would take a smaller payment in order for me to receive after he passed. We plan and G laughs. He passed before his first pension payment. His plan is a great one and payment goes up 3% per year no matter what happens. I have a few more years to wait.
The corporate world has changed. I'm glad I don't have to be in it too much longer. If I decide to work it will be a choice not a need. Who knows when I get there my perspective may change. Or my life may change in a way I could never predict.3 -
Pip,
Many congrats. Is the gas pedal touchy or do you have a heavy foot? LOL. 🙃2 -
i tried taking a bit of a nap, but it wasnt to be, so I am having a cup of tea and checking in..
today at work.. I get some of it, but the process of this program on all of us except for the doc is just crazy..
so for right now, I am going to go and enjoy the vacation and not worry about work. put it in the good Lords hands while I am gone.

Whew!... Caught up after 300+ posts! And I don't remember a dang thing I wanted to comment on!
I have been maintaining my fasting hours, but eating too much during my feasting window. Need to kick start the weight into leaving. So very sorry to hear of the financial, family, health troubles some are experiencing. Hugs.

Kayla, Hope you have a great lesson tomorrow! One day I may ride again. It was something I enjoyed as a young teen.1

Machka -My MIL told me that if you are worried a cucumber might be bitter to do this. Cut the end off of the cucumber and then rub in a circular motion, the piece you cut off onto the rest of the cucumber. A white substance will form around the edges. The longer you do it, the more there is. Once you are done, cut off another slice and then peel as normal. I have done this for about 20 years and haven't had a bitter cucumber since I started doing it.
Katla - I hope you celebrate your anniversary in March as well. My Dad was always looking forward to his and Mom's 50th. He talked about the party he wanted, sadly they didn't make it. He passed in their 46th year.
Kate - Maybe you could arrange to have a talk with your brother after his wife has gone to bed or is having a nap. It sounds like he needs some support. I toll on caretakers is not to be taken lightly for sure.
Michele - Instead of dropping hints that you have the games there, maybe just outright ask. Sometimes people just don't take hints.
SuziQ - I watch too many shows on TV, but I normally record them all and then watch as I find time. I do my walking to tv shows when I'm walking inside. I have been enjoying A Million Little Things more than This is Us lately. I did watch the pilot episode of For Life and enjoyed it. I like that it is based on a true story. Politics and BS seems to be the same in all companies. It's sad how the employee is never thought of.
Allie - I hope that you have a wonderful trip and find your dream job when you return. I wouldn't want to move to another state for work in your position either. You have a great network of friends and family near that helps make life enjoyable. I could not imagine moving away from my daughters, grandchildren and friends now even to go back to NB where there is more family and friends.
Terri - Thank you for the map, that actually makes it better for me to understand.
Lisa - I agree with Karen that I would buy the sarcastic cards too. I see a lot at craft shows that seem to sell very well. Card companies are still too "correct".
Rodger and I are going grocery shopping together today for the first time since probably 1987. When we first got married we went shopping together fairly regularly, but it quickly changed to one of my chores. He is changing his eating habits so drastically that I have no clue what he wants to eat and truthfully don't know how to cook it either. I am dreading this. I am a terribly picky eater and a lot has to do with smells of food. I hate the smell of garlic and most spices and I'm fearful that is what he is looking for. Even if he cooks his own I will have to smell it and I am not looking forward to that. Oh well, I will suck it up and encourage him.
Tomorrow a friend is coming out to spend some time while I craft and Rodger watches the Daytona 500. She is suffering from a bout of Gout but is going a little stir crazy in her house. She is younger than me and has suffered with Gout for about 2 years now. The preventative medicine is not very preventative.
I have a 4 day weekend this weekend. Monday is Family Day here in Alberta, a provincial Statutory Holiday and Tuesday I am taking a lieu day as I have a dental appointment and my daughter is going to colour my hair after the dentist. I am getting some high and low lights put in.

Karen in VA—love your granddaughter’s focused look!
SuziQ and LisainAr – promotion frustration can be real. I work in the government so opportunities are more limited than in the private sector. I would be ranting if I had been promised something 6 months ago. My sons have both had that experience. The eldest is fairly good at finding outside opportunities when he has gotten frustrated (after giving them time) and has always had an upward move. My youngest is using it as opportunity to work on his patience. He has already had several promotions where he is and there is another in the works-sometime this year.
Kylia-pretty sure we live within 30 minutes of each other!
I can collect social security at 66 (well, could get it now but I am still working, so will hold off til 66). My main retirement is from government retirement system, which will be sufficient. I will get a reduced amount of SS due to windfall provisions, but will take what I can. I think if I am still working at 66 I could draw my full SS until I retire so if I decide to work past this year I may look into it. Am letting husbands 401k fund sit until I have to start withdrawing.
Been busy around house today. Cleaned out kitchen drawers, got laundry done, shopping, drain clean out and went for 70 minute walk. It is cold out today but quite sunny so I just listened to one of my playlists and had a nice time. Wind started bothering me towards the end, so called it quits.
Going to go start dinner and continue with some more cleaning.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

SuziQ: I have loved horses since early childhood. I’ve never actually owned one, and doubt that I ever will. If it happens I’ll be surprised. I go by Katla. It is the first three letters of my first name and the first two letters of my last name. :flowerforyou:
Tracey in Edmonton: Your advice about our anniversary is good. We’ve postponed the family celebration until summer so that we can have more time with our adult kids and our grandchildren. DDIL is currently embroiled in a serious family medical situation that will take some time to resolve. Waiting for the family celebration will have our grandchildren out of school for the summer and a better shot at good weather on the Oregon Coast. We will have a private celebration with one another on the actual anniversary date and look forward to the family event in July.
Have a great day.

Tracey - Enjoy your 4 day weekend. Nice to spend time with your daughter like that.
Watched a travelogue this evening featuring western Canada. Beautiful.
Sorry about the garlic etc problem.
My DH is really skinny and I have problems getting him to eat enough. He takes a lot of exercise. He doesn't eat much more than me, apart from a few candies and the occasional cookie. He rarely suffers from hunger and often feels too full. He weighs the same as me, but is 6 ft tall.
Edie is coming to play tomorrow. I have got bagels in and some best, free range bacon. She will love it.

Hi all!
I just stumbled onto this blog thread. What a supportive group of women! WOW!
Congrats on all your accomplishments!
I'm 58, have been dieting (this time) for health reasons, since Sept 2018. I've lost 65 pounds and have a bit more to go to get to my "best me" state.
I've got the dieting thing down atm and am starting with the exercise.
My February goals are:
1. Establish a gym routine.
2. Find some new recipes.
3. Get some new casual clothes that fit me NOW. (Never thought I'd be able to say that my clothes were too big!)
4. Recite my core goals every morning and any time I feel that I can't presist.
5. Give myself credit every time I do something that brings me closer to achieving my goals.
6. Count my blessings.
