From the time I was about 10 or 11 years old, perhaps even earlier to some extent, I started drawing house plans. My mother had a collection of house plans books and magazines and house plans intrigued me. When my mother saw what I was attempting to do, she taught me a bit ... making the house to scale, several of the architectural drafting techniques etc. She was a nurse, but I guess she had an interest in house design too.
So I would spend hours planning and drawing a house ... and then furnishing and decorating it. In those days I just had fat Sears catalogues at my disposal to find furnishings and decorative items. Now I'd have an entire internet! Nevertheless, I'd pour over the Sears catalogues, pick items and put them into my house. If they showed measurements, all the better because I'd put them in to scale as well. I would list each item with its price and add up the totals ... how much it would cost to do each room.
I took great delight in doing that over and over with different houses I would create all the way into my early 20s. And then for some reason, I stopped. Too busy, I guess. It was very time consuming.
However, certain themes would appear in many of the houses and those are probably the things I'd still like in a house, if I were able to design one for real.
One thing was a 25 metre 2-lane lap pool. I'm not one to just sit in a pool ... if I'm there, I like to attempt to swim. And it would be 2-lane so my husband and I could swim together.
Another thing was indoor/outdoor room(s) ... a recreational room and/or a bathroom with rock walls, trees growing in or through it, a stream or small waterfall. I was so excited when I saw pictures of Falling Water for the first time many years later. These things can be done!!
In my late 20s I started a course where we took 1 month of each of Architectural Drafting, HVAC Systems, Structural Drafting, and Machine Drafting and then we had to choose the one we wanted to focus on for the remaining 8 months. I was sure I'd go for the Architectural Drafting and I did quite well in it, but amazingly, the one I liked the best was Machine Drafting -- Engineering Technology.
Still ... when I'm on a long, long, long bicycle ride, my mind will drift to designing houses again.
Anyway, maybe one day if I ever have a lotto win, I'll get my 25 metre 2-lane lap pool and indoor/outdoor room(s).

beth your course of action with hearing aids sounds smart—good luck with this next step
Mary you look so fit and healthy, sorry the grands gave you both colds
Ginny love your backsplash and am impressed with your DYI skills. I have a similar pattern, but with glass tile
I don’t have a clear pic of my perfect day just that it will include the outdoors and the people I love. For this week off I chose to keep the itinerary pretty open, a MD appointment, 2 social lunches with old and new colleagues and a smattering of cleaning, decluttering, cooking and treadmill + stretching time. And yes, I am staying in my pjs for as long as I like!!
Here’s an IRS question; DD received some internship $ ($3,500) and was told it was not taxable-yet she got a 1099, our accountant says that means it’s taxable thoughts??

Machka and KJ - I read LOADS of house magazines about interior decorating and remodeling houses. I love the idea of creating new spaces. I mostly read them on my tablet so I don't get a lot of clutter. Most are free with Amazon Prime. DH isn't interested and can't see the need. I'm happy to dream and buy the occasional cushion!
We also watch at least three antique auction programmes a day, while we are eating. For those I have fantasy homes to put the things I like into. One is our house, which suits Arts and Crafts and Art Deco, one is 'my Paris flat' which has ornate antique items, one is my 'loft' which has industrial chic, and I also have a barn conversion for rustic items. DH always says, your loft etc is full up!
Oh well, it keeps me amused.
Off to singing!

Good morning and welcome Jane in England!
I don't know what happened to your positive approach post. It showed up in my notifications, but not here......
I love it! I get frustrated with people saying you can't have this or that. I will put this to use!3 -
Quiet night + Tide coming in + 1 metre swell = Noisy waves out there!
My music is off and I'm listening to the waves while reading research articles.

I have been reflecting on the questions about perfect day and what I'm longing for and realized that as a retired healthy person I have a lot of options that are not available to others so it is more likely that I will have the days I want. However, I remember that when I was working, there was a period of months when on my way to work, I drove past a woman walking her Golden Retriever and felt a sort of longing to be able to do that. Years later when I retired and moved up here, we had a Golden Retriever and lived in a perfect neighborhood for me to walk the dog. Since then the dog family has changed but I have walked one or two dogs nearly every morning and for as long as I wanted to, I am living my dream.
During my years teaching in public school I loved the work I did. One year I had an exceptionally difficult class and came home in despair every day. I told anyone who would listen, how challenging the class was and by bedtime I was emotionally exhausted. One day I realized that by talking about my challenging day, I was just living it over and filling my resting hours with the stress. I decided at that moment to say nothing about my job to anyone and to reflect only on my behaviour and not on the behaviour of others. If I liked how I had acted that day, I put a sticker on my calendar. Not surprisingly, my evenings and weekends improved, my stress lessened, and I survived the year in good health. When I concentrate on the problem, the problem increases...when I concentrate on the solution, the solution increases.

Kelly, I'll let you know when "The Happiness Project" is on the way to you. It's one of the few books I own because I like to refer back to things I've read. I hope you enjoy it.

Pissed off 😤 tried to order cups off nuby company site it showed I’m blocked. So had different relatives try same for them. So sounds like their sites having problems. So called the company to place the orders but no one answered at all. Left a message to call us back. Not sure what’s going on with them. Could a part be made in China so their at a stand still? Or is it just a site issue needing fixed? Can’t know since no ones answering. We buy them for workers y us makes a nice gift since many have little ones too. Lol hubby the old guy in the group even he has a toddler.

Type in Nuby.com you’ll get the blocked messages too today2 -
Barbie love your actions concerning a difficult teaching year. I journal quite a bit and start each day with an index card that lists —“things I get a chance to do” and end with “decisions I made today that were positive.” This has helped me tremendously with handling the toxic environment and has led to better results for my students and for me! Love how succinctly you put things!

Barbie: This is brilliant! “When I concentrate on the problem, the problem increases...when I concentrate on the solution, the solution increases.”
Today is DH’s yoga day and I plan to go with him. DH takes chair yoga and the teacher is excellent. It has been a while since he went and I hope he’s willing to go today.

Kylia - Great job!!!!
Jane England, I lost over 4 stone, so it can be done. It took me 18 months, so it wasn't quick, but it was sure.
Singing was different to the norm because our wonderful leader has gone on holiday. We had a substitute, who did a valiant job, but didn't have the star quality. I had a few sweet nibbles at the celebration tea, but didn't go over the top and have foregone my normal snack. We still enjoyed ourselves hugely.
Allie - HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME! We want pics and updates.

I made it to the local yoga class for the first time in years. Yay! There was less stretch and hold and more movement than I expected. My hip is not up to par yet.

Did the Power Hour class. Since we are going to see my cousin tomorrow, the plan is to do some HIIT. I’m thinking that we’ll probably have to leave around 9
I signed up for a ladys lunch tomorrow then remembered that I won’t be here so I had to scratch my name out. It was at a place I’d like to go to since Vince won’t go with me. Hopefully, they’ll go again in the next few weeks.
After exercise went to Aldi for a few things then to Brevard Charities where I got 3 shirts. Then to the SPCA thrift store where I found another DVD and a platter for the cake for the next potluck for only 25 cents. Also got these two things they use when they play canasta. So I'll probably just donate them. I know, I know, I really need the DVD. But this was one I didn’t have yet
Viv – I got a friend request from that person and just declined it.
Neumann’s car landed (upside down) right in front of us. Honestly, I didn’t see anything in the winners circle. After they uprighted the car, they brought out the black screens. When they put the body in the ambulance, the screens were in front of him and behind. When we got back to the car, Vince checked NASCAR.com and it was posted that he’d been taken to the hospital. When the ambulance left the scene, it looked to me like there wasn’t any urgency. So my fear was that they took him to the hospital to declare him dead.
Normally, when there’s a crash they show replay upon replay upon replay of it. They didn’t show one replay of this. It wasn’t until we got back to the condo that I saw the replay. I’m thinking that NASCAR was being on the safe side and doing these things. His crew was huddled around the crash the entire time.
Mary – hope you feel better soon
Ginny – wonderful looking kitchen
Welcome everyone new!
Allie – have a wonderful trip. Can’t wait for pics
Kim – fantastic looking party setup. Wish I could come by
Margaret – I don’t even bother to find out if a guy is truly trying to be my friend. I just decline.
Kylia – lookin’ really good
Michele who is going in the pool since it’s so lovely out

NYKaren - The IRS says any and all pay for work is taxable, so whom ever told her the internship money was not taxable was wrong, with a 1099 a copy of that form was mailed to her and to the IRS if there is not a return turned into the IRS by April 15 then the IRS will start penalties. She needs to do a return, if that was her only income she will not owe anything and an EZ form that she will be able to fill out herself will cover it. That may be what the person meant, not that the income was non-taxable but that if that was her only income she would not owe anything.

Thanks everyone. I am still in bed! It’s 10:30 in the morning! I am trying to talk myself into getting up and swinging my Kettlebell. I think I will feel better if I get outside even to just sit in the sunshine. Maybe we will go to see a movie this afternoon. Or, maybe I will just roll over and go back to bed
Mary from Arizona/Minnesota9 -
Heather - I grew up beside my grandparents and I stomped off to their place several time’s throughout my teen years. At one point when I was 14 or 15 I decided to run away from home. I didn’t go to my grandparents because it was so close to Mom and Dad. I called a friend that drive and he took me to one of my friends houses. Their mother was wonderful and I loved her to death. She made me call and tell my parents where I was and that I was safe but allowed me to stay. I also had to attend school the next day. At school my grandparents showed up and took me out for lunch. They convinced me that I could live with them as long as I wanted and I didn’t need to speak or see my parents if I didn’t want to. So I lived with my grandparents for about a year. I was so very blessed to have my grandmother until I was almost 41 years old. She was a great friend and I hope I can be half the grandmother to my grands that she was to me.
My parents were very good to me, I was never abused in any manner, just a spoiled teenager who thought she should get her own way. I thought I should mention that part.

Barbie - I love how you handled your difficult year. I adopted that mentality a couple years ago and it has made a huge difference in my life.

"Todo"s and "done"Done: nothing yesterday, woozy so spent day in bed. So far today, voicemailed surgery nurse and Dr P re: Joe’s procedure, called CHN for DEXA scan, they aren’t scheduling until their machine is fixed. After a digestively explosive night, felt woozy so skipped all activity and slept yesterday away.
Bonus:
ToDo: invest 10 mins cleaning Living Rm, carry over 10 mins cleaning Master Bth, Kitchen/Laundry, Office, Master & Guest Bds, get up off my butt and go outside with the dogs, install iCloud for Win 10, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, bake bran muffins, call Carolyn D. Next week Shadow to Mini Pet Mart to shop for crate, get Shingrix vaccine. next month: follow up for DEXA scan appt. Reward: inventory seeds, plan garden, order replenishments.
Machka Beautiful pics! Do you ride on the sand? “booked a dentist appointment for that tooth” well done!
Heather “The trauma has so much less grip on me now.” Brava! Just read the dragon drawing review. Are you quite sure that socially acute Bea isn’t a pre-reincarnation of the Dalai Lama? Did your DH win the “Burping contest”?
SuziQ so thankful you survived such a horrific year. your perfect day. The p color chart made me giggle.
Kylia you, Machka, Barbie, Katla, Lanette, KJ, (especially) Rori and others who care for loved ones have my deepest admiration and respect. What a cutie you are, and were!
NYKaren “notice the positive” inspiring. Even more so the starting with “things I get a chance to do” and ending with “decisions I made today that were positive.”
Welcome @taylordebraa8007 Debra in CA, Amber’s friend.
Karen in VA since we’re in coastal Oregon, I order seeds from Nichols Garden, Territorial or PeacefulValley/Grow Organic, but they don’t carry Katrina. See Johnny’s has F1 Katrina @ 10 seeds for $8.50, gulp, and not even organic. Our transplanted F1 Mercury Beit Alpha cukes ($2.95/30 seeds) produced all the way thru September in our cool, foggy flower bed.
Pip something is very wrong. How could you possibly suck at riding hills? Bullwinkle and Rocky (or Floyd?)
Sue in WA Hooray for the roofer, electrician and registering your cabin for rent with the Traveling Nurses Association.
Okie what do you do for your jobs 1 and 2?
Ginny in OH, impressive purge and flights of stairs! Really impressive tile backsplash job!
Kim your thoughts on time are sparking some reflection. Since I’ve been retired, freed from the external structure of work, I’ve been less mindful of how I use my time. If it weren’t for setting up external structures (church, firehall, line dance, dog group and BB&B) I’d laze away the rest of my days. Hmm. Food for thought. Thanks for your succinct IRS info to NYKaren. Is even paid church work subject to income tax?
Beth hope starting (and documenting) back at square 1 finds the sweet spot for you.
Cheri thank you for your catfisher warnings and wise words.
Lisa “sneaking up on myself.”
Mary fm AZ/MN the V-day pic.
Viv thank you for the “make those happy memories” reminder. Will take that to heart today, especially with Joe.
Welcome Jane from England!
Allie “son sleeping on the couch” is he going to look after your condo while you’re in Peru? Safe travels, hope the trip is all you want and more.
KJ I want your dream room too!
Michele How horrific to have the car land upside down in flames right in front of you. So relieved his serious injuries are not life threatening.
Tracey Loved your running away story, envy you your grandparents (mine all died before I could know them), laughed out loud at your “thought I should mention that part” confession. I resembled that remark!
Husbands and health rant:Joe reminded me of his eye Dr appt tomorrow, wanted to be sure I’d be home with the dogs. We haven’t left Shadow alone since we got her, and he’s concerned she’d be destructive. Yet he would oppose leaving her in her crate. I suggested he postpone the eye test as he’d be prepping for his colonoscopy and shouldn’t be that far from a toilet. There followed four or five loving conversations. He doesn’t want me driving him there and back, but wants to drive himself in the van. He can “rest” in the van’s bed afterward until he’s recovered. He rejected me driving him, with, or without the dogs. I pointed out the instructions that say you must have a driver. He read the instructions carefully, finding an “out” in the stop taking aspirins 7 days before. The warning about possible tears in colon requiring hospitalization and surgery set his resistance in concrete. I maintained soft answers for the first four, but got defensive/aggressive in the last, reminding him that his father had a “bag”. He said he, not me, should have the right to determine his health care. Instead of agreeing, I snottily asked him who he thought would be changing his bags. :ohno: me and my mean, nasty temper. Where we stand now: Joe doesn’t want the colonoscopy under any circumstances. He wants the poo test I kiboshed earlier this year, knowing he was past due for the colonoscopy. I have agreed to: 1-ask the surgery nurse if a postponement due his taking aspirin within the past 7 days and currently having the sniffles is appropriate. 2-ask the Dr. to re-order the poo test and 3-ask the Dr. to speak with Joe about the colonoscopy, whether or not it is necessary. Whether or not Joe will agree to listen to the Dr. is out of my hands, hard as that is to accept. 4- When the scheduler called back, I cancelled his appointment.
Barbie “When I concentrate on the problem, the problem increases...when I concentrate on the solution, the solution increases.” Will try to shift my focus from the “problem” of Joe’s resistance, to the “solution” of maintaining his health. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Off to prep some veggies and brown rice. :}

Barbara - paid work (even if it is illegal ie; selling drugs or turning tricks) for any one or any organization is in the IRS's opinion subject to income tax review and they want a return, so they can review it - you may not owe anything, but they still want the return. My parents had me start doing returns at 13 years old and I had to declare my babysitting/pet sitting money.
